Rode the shinkansen often about 12 years ago. I studied in the Kanto region and went to the Kansai region quite a few times. So happy seeing the shinkansen again. Keep making these videos.
I was born in Shizuoka, in a hospital about a 10 minute walk from the train station. It's where my maternal family hails from. Even though we left the country ever since my childhood (exactly 30 years ago), we keep coming back every couple years for a family holiday so I've lost count how many times I've taken the Shinkansen. Growing up in Japan was the reason I got interested in trains. I was fortunate enough to remember riding the original 0 series (exactly the same as the one displayed in the York museum) when I was a kid. Though not as fast as the current units, it's still my favourite Shinkansen
I’ve technically been on the Shinkansen before… In Taiwan, the high speed rail trains are a variant from Japan, they’re called the N700T. And I totally agree, the trains are quiet, smooth and fast, much better than flying…
The Taiwan/ROC ones are based on the N700's predecessor instead, the 700 series, & are actually called the 700T instead. I remember the Taiwan ones are noisier though
So many westerners who are into trains don’t think about Japan as a destination. Such a shame as Japan has a really old railway culture. As well as the Shinkansen, there are many other train types and beautiful trips and destinations.
I am living in Japan since 7 years and have taken the Shinkansen on several occasions. It is a really convenient way to get from A to B fast, but the scenery around the tracks is limited (there are often tunnels and walls). If you are not on a Japanese Rail Pass, please be aware that there are no "advance tickets" for the Shinkansen, you always have to pay the same high price regardless of the time you buy your ticket! If you want to see more of the beautiful scenery Japan can offer, you have to use trains not using the Shinkansen tracks and preferably outside the big city clusters of Tokyo and Osaka. Anyway, looking forward to seeing more Japanese Rail videos from Nonstop Eurotrip!

From what I saw in other Japan Shinkansen video's, the correct way to use the footrest is. the dark gray collour, just like the carpet, is to use when you wear your shoes, the light gray footrest is used when you take of your shoes.
Fantastic! This really brings me back - 20 years ago, I spent 3+ weeks in Shizuoka. Stayed in the Associa Hotel right by the station (which you can see in the video as you left the station). I used to hang out and watch the Shinkansen trains blow by for entertainment! Took that line many times to/from Tokyo on an earlier generation train set but it was just as quiet, comfortable and perfectly run. Took a ton of local JR lines throughout the prefecture, as far down as Hamamatsu (home of Yamaha, btw). Thanks for this - really looking forward to seeing where else you went!

I just came back from Japan about 3 weeks ago. The Shinkansen is just marvelous! I took the Hikari service from Tokyo to Osaka since it was covered under Japan Rail Pass. 3 hours for a 500km journey...simply fantastic!
I had the Japan Pass and took a combination of different Shinkansen services between Tokyo and Hiroshima (plus other JR trains). This included the Hello Kitty service between Osaka and Hiroshina (which I believe goes onwards to Hakata).
Im aware there is this extra first class on certain routes (I believe the Hokkaido-Tohoku Shinkansen) called Gran Class, I remember taking a look through the carriage when I was on that route a few days ago. Looked incredible
GranClass is available on JR East, while JR Central (which runs this _Tokaido Shinkansen_ probably figured that it's still more profitable to stick to the older Green Car that's less luxurious but can carry more passengers per car
Thank you for posting this wonderful video. I have ridden the Shinkansen many times on previous trip to Japan and have always been impressed with the comfort level, cleanliness and punctuality of the service. I have only been on the Tokaido Line trains but am looking forward to riding the East Japan Shinkansen trains in the future.

In 2010 we caught the Shink from Ueno, Tokyo to Aomori in the north, Tohoku line. My memory might be defective on that. Maybe the train then stopped short of Aomori but I know it reaches Aomori now. The train was fabulous and it was the first time I came across perhaps non Dyson vertical hand dryers. The train was so smooth, so quiet and so fast. Subsequently we have travelled a few times times on Eurostar. Fast, yes, but otherwise very disappointing and was no comparison. Maybe Eurostar is better now, getting on for a decade later but I have no doubt so is the Shink, as you have shown. We had to buy our JR East rail pass before leaving Australia. We still had to confirm at the station and amusingly while everything was worked electronically, there was still lots of paper and hand writing for tickets. We caught quite a few local trains in Japan, and it all worked so well. I remember reading about the amelioration of the smash of air and bang in the train when one high speed train passed another. It was interesting to learn but I can't remember it now.
We took the Kyoto-Hiroshima, and Kyoto-Odawara-Tokyo route back in 2018. Kodama felt like suffering compared to Hikari/Sakura express :D The Kodama was still the N700, but the S was not yet introduced then :) Maybe next year! :)
As a half-Japanese who frequently visits the country, I would have to say that Kodama (and the Tokaido Shinkansen in general) has too many stops, many of which are impractical in the economic sense. Some were simply made out of political pressure during the construction of the railway. The local officials refused to allow the building of the rails in their towns unless they were promised that the train would stop at their place. On the other hand, it is beneficial to locals of the said areas who have to travel back and forth to Osaka or Tokyo. Still, from a bigger picture I think they are unnecessary and simply defeat the purpose of a high-speed train
@@luke211286 Agree, but the kodama services are used as short distance services, and a feeder for the Nozomi, and the timetables work so well that you can easily connect. And the fast services don't get held up.
@@NonstopEurotrip I'm ranting more about some Shinkansen stops rather than the kodama service itself 😅. You're right, kodama is great as a feeder service that serves non-hub stations of mid-sized cities (Shizuoka is a good example of this). I still wonder why there's even a Shin-Fuji station. No train transfers as it is isolated as a shinkansen station, and it is in middle of fuckin nowhere.
I work in Ashford (Kent) ... I often watch the Eurostar trains thunder past on the by-pass tracks at 185mph ... wosh and they are gone!! Similar situation at Stratford Intl too. I also enjoy watching the scenary fly past when travelling on the Southeastern High Speed trains at a slightly more sedate 140mph. Hello. I enjoyed watching your video. I think JR's green car is equivalent to business class. First class on the Shinkansen is JR East's Gran Class. Recently, however, JR Tokai announced plans to introduce seats equivalent to Gran Class. Please try to compare by all means when it is introduced.😊😊😊
Not true, that very much depends. For instance in my first two weeks of sightseeing I only took two Shinkansen over shorter distances and a few local trains, covered by a city pass. Then in my 3rd week of solely filming, I did lots of mileage so got the 7 day JR green car railpass for that, which was definitely worth it.
Small mistake at the start. It's not "new shinkansen" it's just "Sinkansen" "New main line" and I hope you seen the great documentary of the origins of the high speed line in Japan by NHK
"Shinkansen" is a proper noun, which means that it can be treated as a single word. If it were 'new main line' then it would have been 新しい本線. But it's 新幹線, which is a single compound word. It's not wrong to say that the Shinkansen was new in 1964. 新しかった新幹線 also makes sense to say in Japanese.
5:08 You were warned to stay behind the yellow line when filming... You better be more careful when filming on platforms, as trains in Japan often use emergency breaks even in cases foreigners don't find it to be dangerous.
If i saw well in Japan has a normal gauge? or somewhere else i read that in Japan has a narrow gauge what is most interest how can they are operate high speed trains in a narrow gauge line...
When I got your pictures on Instagram it took me a while to figure out if I was looking at a train or plane. The small airplane windows just added to my confusion.
Interesting note: the older N700 had bigger windows than the N700A, so the new S variant have bigger windows again :) I'm not sure if it's dependent of which factory built the trainset. My limited experience was back in 2018, and i could see the "S" in videos since.
Hi. Have you complained to UA-cam yet - channel content keeps interrupting the adverts!? I have visited Japan but did not ride the Shinkansen. I'm not a fan of the design of the front (and rear) of the trains, much preferring that of the original 'O' series of 1964 (albeit they may not have been so streamlined and fast). In 2018, my wife, her mother and I travelled on the Tianjin-Beijing high-speed train. It reached a maximum of 347kph (216mph) and the entire journey (135 mi) was a fantastically fast and smooth ride of only 30 minutes.
Hey dude, you should check out Indonesian train, it's also interesting, I suggest you to take "Argo Bromo Anggrek train" that is running between Jakarta and Surabaya, I guarantee it's gonna be a memorable experience for you !!!
Welcome to Japan! I'm really happy that you're visiting our country and also looking forward to watching your next video in Japan. What's your next plan? BTW, please note that you should take off your shoes when you use footrest which is be turned over. But don't worry, many of us don't know that. Enjoy your time!! (*´▽`*) Oh, I do recommend you to visit "Oshino Hakkai" where is one of world heritage, there are very beautiful 8 ponds, water from Mt. Fuji, in Yamanashi prefecture.
Thanks for the information ℹ️🙏🏻 I travelled lots from Sapporo to Hakata. I have left now unfortunately, but I'll be back so any recommendations for next time are very welcome. ☺️
$65 to go 339km in First Class / Green Car? That's a bargain. Especially when a reserved green car seat from Tokyo to Shin-Osaka costs $145 USD / €136.40 on a Nozomi limited superexpress.
Ugly looking brutes but still - wouldn't mind a run on one! Most impressive thing for me was the accelaration from a stationary start of your train leaving Shizuoka - talk about F1 cars!
Japan's Shinkansen bullet trains are no longer as fast as the high-speed bullet trains of other countries that came later. However, as a Japanese, I am very proud of the Shinkansen, which was the first high-speed railway in the world to start running, and which continues to run safely and comfortably without accidents.

An idea for the future? Well some touristic trains in Europe like Velay Express in France, Blonay-Chamby in Switzerland or Transsiberiana d'Italia in Italy (i think Fondatione FS have change the name recently) for next summer. Also Harz steam train in Germany... and many many others...
Thanks for the great ideas 😊💡
Si fuera posible detenerse y hacer foco por unos segundos en los códigos QR así también podemos sentirnos mas participes del viaje y de la informacion que hay en el tren y en varios otros lugares. Gracias por el viaje 🇺🇾
Good idea, I'll try and do this next time!!
Not sure if someone else mentioned this before, but the trolley service is now only available in Nozomi and Hikari services but not Kodama services :)
Thanks for the information ℹ️
Green Car is First Class and Gran Class is First Plus
You had an onigiri 🍙🍙🍙👍🇯🇵
Yummy!!
Only in a place like Japan would they think to put in a flat section on the escalator.😉👏😊
Ikr 🤣
9:03-Actually, if one's coming from a foreign country and is travelling in Japan by rail, one should be using the Japanrail Pass.

Been to Japan 2 times, and managed to try shinkasen. Superb n nice train. Great sharing mate 💕
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
The business suit industry in Japan is doing a brisk trade.
I know 😏
Small mistake at the start.
Exactly ☺️
5:08 You were warned to stay behind the yellow line when filming...
You better be more careful when filming on platforms, as trains in Japan often use emergency breaks even in cases foreigners don't find it to be dangerous.
Unfortunately my Japanese isn't amazing 😂
Very cool adventure.
Thanks 🙏🏻
If i saw well in Japan has a normal gauge? or somewhere else i read that in Japan has a narrow gauge what is most interest how can they are operate high speed trains in a narrow gauge line...
The normal lines are 1067mm, all Shinkansen is standard gauge
So many subtitles made they people lose imagen of your good job in they vídeo. Hug from Buenos Aires👍🤔
Thanks Jorge 😊
The "inner" footrest is meant to be used without shoes...
When I got your pictures on Instagram it took me a while to figure out if I was looking at a train or plane. The small airplane windows just added to my confusion.
I agree, yes 😍
I'd loved to have tried to 0 series! And also, I can't wait to go to China 😍
Wauuu my fav country 🤤🇯🇵🇲🇾 helo japan im malaysia do you know it
I love Malaysia 😍
So flat countryside, very beautiful
A fast ⏩
Hey dude, you should check out Indonesian train, it's also interesting, I suggest you to take "Argo Bromo Anggrek train" that is running between Jakarta and Surabaya, I guarantee it's gonna be a memorable experience for you !!!
Don't worry, it's on my to-do list!!
@@NonstopEurotrip Enjoy your riding! (^^♪ Are you enjoying having "Ekiben🍱" during your ride? If you so, I want to watch it. 😉Have a great trip!! ☺
What gps are you using?
My phone 😬
@@NonstopEurotrip The name of the gps application?
I wish one day you will make videos in 🇮🇳 Mumbai Local trains haha
They scare me 😂😂😂
@@NonstopEurotrip Haha don't worry
Bom dia meu primeiro trem bullete japonês primeira aula
$65 to go 339km in First Class / Green Car? That's a bargain. Especially when a reserved green car seat from Tokyo to Shin-Osaka costs $145 USD / €136.40 on a Nozomi limited superexpress.
Absolutely 🤗
I know JR should have put this in English but please don't keep your shoes on when using the inner side of the footrest.
The other passengers wouldn't have appreciated me taking my shoes off 🙃
Two ashtrays are blanked in the smoking room?
Idk 😅
Perhaps only one person at a time allowed in the smoking room?
It is difficult to compare trains in Europe and Japan. They are better in my opinion
They're far better in Japan, agreed 🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵
Japan already, only South Korea, China and Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia.
26th
🤣
Ugly looking brutes but still - wouldn't mind a run on one! Most impressive thing for me was the accelaration from a stationary start of your train leaving Shizuoka - talk about F1 cars!
Yeah they are absolutely RAPID
Japan's Shinkansen bullet trains are no longer as fast as the high-speed bullet trains of other countries that came later. However, as a Japanese, I am very proud of the Shinkansen, which was the first high-speed railway in the world to start running, and which continues to run safely and comfortably without accidents.
It doesn't matter. They're fast enough and the best trains in the world 🌎🥰
東海道新幹線にファーストクラスありません。There is no first class on the Tokaido Shinkansen.
The rest of the world calls it first class
Ласточке из РЖД слишком далеко до этого поезда. Ну в России, то откаты, то взятки, то бюрократия, то пустые понты, назвать ласточку скоростной))).
Russia will never have a network like this
i want to go to japan but the freakin mask wearing is insane, not going til they wise up
They mostly wore masks before, it's not a covid thing.
