- Japan is renowned for having some of the best bullet trains in the world, traveling at approximately 300 km/hr! The Shinkansen is the best way to get around the country, so in this video I will give you some tips about how to go about booking your ticket, things to know at the station and also whether it pays to upgrade to Green Class from Economy Class and what the differences are. Hope you find this video helpful and below is the link to book your tickets individually or also the Rail Pass Option:

The travel health insurance I use - PassportCard Nomads: www.passportcardnomads.com/?r...
*I highly recommend this travel health insurance because you don't have to pay out of pocket for your medical expenses and they have very reasonably priced long term plans. You can buy the packages for shorter trips as well, but they're especially fantastic for digital nomads and nomads who want regular health insurance when they are abroad. I am an affiliate of this company, but of course use the plans myself.

Hey guys, I realized I didn't go over the difference between getting a Rail Pass or individual tickets, but to be honest I didn't find the Rail Passes to be worth it unless you are traveling to many different destinations in a short period of time. There are calculators on the JR website so you can check if it is worth it for you. Here are the official links:
Tickets Individually: smart-ex.jp/en/lp/app/
Rail Passes: www.jreast.co.jp/multi/en/pass/
japanrailpass.net/en/
That’s so cool!
hey great woman and so beautiful
but I like yau ahh ok 💕
With the new increased price for a JR pass, it is hard to get you money's worth going forward.
I love the train system in Japan, especially the Shinkansen. Thank you for all the great tips!
Hi Alina, thank you so much for sharing your journey. I grew up in Japan and your videos brought many memories. Arigato Gozaimasu 🇯🇵
Thank you so much Alina for this awesome video. This fantastuc high-speed train reflects the greatness and determination of this nation, which is certainly among the best in the world, also in terms of security.
I love japan, thank you for sharing the ideas. Hope i can use it soon i go to japan. Have a safe travels 😊❤
Very nice video, Alina. Thanks for sharing.✨
Hello Alina, Hope your trip back to Canada was safe and pleasant. You got to love those trains in Japan. Efficient and Clean and most of all, on time. They are on a level that most cities around
the world can't match. Harriet and I have been to Japan many times. We can't say enough about how well train service works. Alina, you are spot on with how to travel by train .We travel the same way. You are right, it's not worth getting a Rail Pass unless you're travelling to multiple cities for a short period of time. We have experienced all classes. Travelling by train is half the fun of getting there. As always, Alina, we love you for all that you do to keep us informed and entertained. ❤❤❤ Sending you much Love and Affection from Richmond, Va. Harriet, Jim and Yuki
Thanks for all the great info Alina! ❤
Hi Alina,
great video about shinkansen.
You are right, the shinkansen experience is at an other level. Also the precision of how the trains are on schedule and the location of the doors at the station are always exactly at the marks on the platform.
You are right, not all of the staff speaks English. My personal experience at Okayama station was, the staff
had some kind of device do speak to in English, which translated to Japanese.
Best regards, Ralf
That’s a very nice job, Alina!❤❤
I love the clip from your Siberian train ride from a few years ago! That was the film in which I found your channel!
Great Video. Thank you for posting.
This is the most comprehensive review of Shinkansen trains I've seen. Very insightful!
Thanks so much, Rahul! :)
Yes, you have to try it, bro, the highest fastest train in Southeast Asia... the speed is 350 K kilometers, the newest fast train in Southeast Asia, the first in Indonesia, Jakarta - Bandung, lots of tourist attractions in the city of Bandung which is beautiful and comfortable and cool and cool and beautiful.
Super interesting, Alina, you know, that´s also the biz here. To show the PRM´s, person ´s with reduced mobility, what to expect at planes, trains, hotels and how the companies handle these special passengers. Well done.
thanks for all the great info alina! excellent video
Thank you very much!
Thanks Alina a lot like flying seats look the same hope you had fun.
I love how you ride the Japanese bullet train with experience like a pro. I def have to check out Japan and S Korea.
What To Know BEFORE You Ride Japan's Shinkansen Bullet Train | Economy vs Business Class. The video has impressive details and is very realistic. Watched the video on May 28, 2023 very like. Thank you
So happy to watch wonderful vlogs with my family from India
Can't wait for your Tokyo's videos 🥰
Ohayoo and thanks Alina for the video.
To visit Japan and not travel by Shinkansen is the ultimate mistake !
It's a total experience on its own, such a pleasure to ride these fast trains, on time all the time, spotless, comfortable.
For me the only difference between Economy seats and Greeen class is that in the latter there are less seats so it's also quieter, not that Economy carriages are loud (except maybe during school holidays or the Golden week) but there are just more travellers there.
To buy a ekiben prior boarding is a great idea for the huge choice in station shops but those sold on board are good too.
I love the way train staff bow when entering or leaving a car.
So Japanese ! Nihon ga daisuki desu !! 🗼⛩🎌
Thanks for sharing video 👍
The train service in Japan is exceptional, as always Japan is better here than anywhere else ✌️❤️🇬🇧

You, Japan, Shinkansen. The perfect triple. Stay safe Alina x
Nice video Alina
One strange idea from me:
Please make a video with sounds of Tokyo! I miss them so much and there is no way I can remember all these things. I want to hear the traffic lights sounds - these little birds while people are crossing, the different songs of each metro station and also the incredible voices announcing the shinkansen stops. There is no other place in the world like Japan and Tokyo!
Please do such video or at least a short!
My wife and i have been to japan 8 times and every time we have gone for the Green class rail pass , it is 100% worth it and will save you money . The pass includes some buses and ferries which makes it even better . Great vid thanks
Only good if you visit tons of places on a short period of time. I calculated, traveling from Tokyo to Kawazu to Nagoya to Kyoto to Osaka and back to Tokyo; going to all these places and buying City Metro passes for each city was still SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than buying a rail pass.
This is sooo coool! My first bullet train experience was in HongKong. It was efficient, fast and nice ambiance. I hope you got back to Canada hassle-free. I really love watching all your videos. Each video has its own great takeaways and learnings. Keep that content coming, Alina.
Hello Alina! 😄🙏👋🌟 I hope your having a super fantastic day! This is really a excellent marvelous video! 😁👍❤️👏📹🇯🇵🚅🥇💯💫✨🌟 Wow! The Shinkansen bullet train looks absolutely amazing! Also both economy and business class looks really nice! I would definitely like to ride the Shinkansen bullet train in Japan one day. It looks really cool! Thank you so much Alina to share with us this magnificent fantastic video. You are the best and greatest world traveler adventurer ever! 😃👍👏✈️🌎📹🥇💯🏆💫🌟 I wish you Alina a wonderful marvelous glorious blessed day. 😊🙏❤️👋👍✨🌟
My pleasure, thank you!
Very nice video
Alina love you so much and very nice trip ❤
I had been on Shinkansen from Osaka to Fukuoka. It was a fantastic ride.
Happy and safe journey 🎉
It was almost exclusive use, wasn’t it? Lucky you!!! I recommend you to ride Shinkansen in GlanClass next time!!! But it’s available only JR East.
I'm a little jealous that you got to have Tully's! I think the last Tully's in the US closed around a decade ago, or at least in its hometown of Seattle. I forget what a big deal Tully's still is in Japan.
the comment about it being quieter was important. i hadn't actually heard that tip yet in green car videos
I took my first bullet train in Taiwan and quite bluntly it was like nothing I had ever experienced. So fast, so comfortable, so amazing. Then, when I was in Japan I was predisposed to take the Shinkansen and learned that although Taiwan had a Japanese firm design, and build their system . Japan's was step above. On my first trip I just bought individual tickets because we weren't taking as many trains. My second trip I had a JR pass because the whole trip was based on going to multiple cities via train.
I never experience Grand class, but green class was exceptional. Course I am comparing that to Via Rail cattle class (not real name) that is on older rolling stock, slow, mostly late and not a great economic deal in many cases.
Once you figure out the system, you can easily find where your car doors are as their painted on the platform color coded and the trains all have names. The train name can be important sometimes trains are one minute apart stopping or not stopping at all stations can confuse you. In one case as we got to the platform a Shinkansen rolled in and it was like two or three minutes before time so we got on and found our reserved seats and train departed. The conductor came down aisle and looked at us funny. When he looked at our tickets we were in the correct seat, but wrong train, and this train didn't stop at our destination. Luckily the next stop we could get off and get on the correct train which was literally a minute behind the one we were on. That's how I learned that Japanese words I didn't understand on tickets were actually train names. As the train we had been on left the station at one end, our train was entering the station at the other end.
I haven't travelled on the train since luggage rules came into place but on some cars there was spots for large bags behind the last seat row that you now need to reserved rather than first come, first get like it used to be.
For most trips under four hours the Shinkansen beats flying as time difference overall trip is negligible and the comfort and scenery at two to three hundred kilometers an hour is worth it.
The prices on JR passes is going up markedly in October of 2023, so it's import depending on how long your staying and amount of travelling via JR you're doing to compare whether a pass will still be the best deal. It will no longer be a insta purchase.
Ekiben purchased at the station stalls are amazing and you definitely want want to buy at a bigger stall for greatest choice.
Everything Alina said about Shinkansen travel I echo, it makes travel a dream.
Very true, it is super impressive. Would love to visit Taiwan!

You should do a review of VIA Rail from Toronto to Montreal! You could of course fly into Dorval, but where’s the fun in that? The Gare Nord station if memory serves me right, is underground in the centre of the city. I stayed at the time in Laval but the metro to all parts of the city was fast, convenient and affordable. VIA isn’t on a par with Japan but on an island like Montreal you definitely need the metro to get around.
Haha I am actually doing a via rail video while in Canada
I have also taken an old Soviet Train and the first class almost put me to tears…..in a heatwave with no AC for 11 hours. I totally understand!!! I’ve also taken the KTX in Korea - they couldn’t be more opposite! I’ll be in Japan in a couple of weeks and look forward to the Japanese trains!
Haha then you know exactly what I’m talking about. Enjoy Japan!
My Japan 🇯🇵 trip list is growing by the day... 🍀🍀🍀
Hope you have a great time!
Alina fantastic everything every view super place Tokyo ur expoler stylish nice volg.
I've done economy on all of my Shinkansen rides so far but for my very last one I'll be going in green class as a final treat to myself before I return to England (the very thought of going home makes me want to 😭😭).
haha it is sad to leave the efficiency and convenience of Japan!
Hi Alina! I enjoyed your experience with the Shinkansen Bullet Train and your overview of train travel in Japan. I look forward to your forthcoming review of the Via Rail system. As a native Montrealer, I was a very frequent traveler on the Turbo between Montreal and Toronto, but that was decades ago, and things have changed substantially. I also moved from Montreal to Saskatoon via train, but that was much more a slow scenic ride.
Thank you! Will be interesting to compare haha
Beautiful 😍
You're physically in canada but still your heart is in Japan 😊
She's not the only one

Arigato gozaimas!
Well, its my dream to travel one day in such train. Very soon India will have its bullet train to get started asap.
Greeting from Bali 🎉
Nice train, wished New Zealand Government would get it's shit together and have this option from Auckland to Wellington
Next time try hop on local train (though it takes from Okayama to Hiroshima). You may notice how local person ‘Omotenashi’(welcome & entertain) you!
Aww throwback to that breakdown video
Haha yes good times. Absolutely I will before my next big trip!
Waiting for my flight to Tijuana, think Mexico only has one train, copper canyon rail
Aline.. was it a bumpy ride
You should enter the Miss Shinkansen contest! 🚂
Just got off rewatching the Irkutsk train odyssey seeing this, quite the difference lol. Those trains do have a certain yet different appeal (with enough food) - pandemic kickstarted my travel vlog crutch, the Japan ones have been great :)
Sadly the Yen is tanking and JR is jacking up prices to the point that it's basically a stick up from October 1. I was keen to take the Shinkansens all over Japan but the new pass prices mean a hire car might even make more sense. I am still keen to get a few trips in by Shinkansen.
any charging port on green class?
Of course!
You looking fabulous
Or you can just get an JRPass before going into Japan so you don't have to book any tickets?
Suica or jr pass. For.mt.fuji and gala yuzawa
LOve yah. 🥰
Good evening
Domo alikato Alina!#
😂😂😂Hey Alina 👋 , I have read somewhere that as per new Shinkansen rules people are not allowed to bring large suitcases or trolley bags on the train....but how could you...😂😂😂???!!
And I could see people were okay with you taking videos inside...did you also cat-nap in that cozy Shinkansen seat like some people did on that train...!!!???😂
Expensive indeed!#
❤❤❤
Good morning gods mother happy Sunday God Bless yuo all ways
❤👌
👍👌😊
🥰😘
5:24 - Or you just put it in the overhead luggage rack....
Ohh it’s takes 3 hours by local train from Okayama to Hiroshima. lol
Don't know anything about it. Only have taken several of the Cleveland, OH Metros. They are far more convenient & less costly than driving.
Good morning beautiful lady💙
I’m Japanese!
So Comparing Japan and Russia is a mistake.
It’s funny!
👌👍from Kerala God's own country.
The look on your face when you travel in Europe is clearly different from the one you travel in Japan. It's like someone else.
@5:10 your tone should be "oh man, my bad, moving forward i will just buy the tag. it's less drama and i am travelling with a giant ass suitcase and this isn't southwest airlines" not "oh so next time if you want to try to avoid the fee maybe try doing this if the train is super dead..." great video otherwise
don't worry Alina next 18 August 2023 in Capital Jakarta indonesia have Train the same sinkansen, name KCJB Kereta cepat jakarta Bandung speeds360 km/ hours.😅 maaf sy tdk pandai bahasa inggris🥰👍🏼
Cautionary Tale, I traveled between Shin Osaka & Hiroshima, in a reserved car. I placed my camera case & tripod bag in the overhead tray above me, the tray has no locker or ribs so luggage can be easily slid backwards. When I arrived in Hiroshima I discovered that my tripod bag had been stolen. Not misplaced or collected by someone else but stolen. The cars do have CCTV, but as mush I pleaded with Police & JR, it never happened. I can only assume that the CCTV footage is only used in accidents or domestic terrorism. On this particular ride the train had 2 stops, Kobe was one of them. I suspect that the person probably stole it their. So, never relax, even in Japan. I will always book a Green car from now on.

I've been watching your videos lately of your trips to Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, etc. Why no trips to China, Hong Kong, Macau? If you think the Shinkansen is great in Japan, you'll be surprised the bullet trains in China are faster, newer, cheaper and more comfortable. Take a trip to China and you will be surprise, enlighten, and enjoyable. Guarantee. Of course I am biased since I am Chinese but living in America. I've been to China many times, speak the language and the food there is really hot, spicy, and cheap. Good luck. Always enjoyed your videos.
I went to Hong Kong about a decade ago and it was great. I will visit mainland China in the future, but probably not anytime soon since I have some other places on my list first.
Business class smells like a rich uncle's old age, so I recommend economy class.
Lol it was not like that when I went thankfully
