I have a tip to add from my latest trip! When you are boarding the Shinkansen from a terminal point (for example, in our case we took the first train from Hamamatsu to Tokyo), it's actually more convenient to go without a reservation because you get a large selection among cars and seats on the let side of the train to have the best view of Fuji-san. Majority of the passengers didn't board from the terminal point. Reserved cars and seats are limited so the seats that offer the best views sell fast (like one time, only 1 of 11 cars were reserved). In our case we had a loose itinerary so we only reserved our rides the day before, and all the seats we wanted were already taken by then. I can't say if it's the same for mid-day rides though, as it might be more crowded (we only rode early morning and at night).
We did, what you Said, during our JAPAN❤ trip between 1st 16th february 2024, everything was easy about Shinkansen bullet trians . THX for this useful video 🇹🇷❤️🇯🇵
Hello, Yoko. Your videos are extremely helpful and clear. In this video, you mentioned that you can transfer your Shinkansen ticket to your IC card and it showed a phone using NFC at the gate. Do you know of a resource which describes how to do this? Are you able to do it after getting your ticket with your JR Pass?
hi, thank you so much! 🙏 so glad you found it helpful! here's the video where I demonstrated how to buy Shinkansen tickets online and link with an IC card: ua-cam.com/video/1HanXXUv6y8/v-deo.html but please be noted that this is only for one-off tickets. if you have the JR Pass, this does not work. because the jr pass is a ticket itself, which you can just insert at the gates to get through, the jr pass cannot be linked to an IC card (e.g. Suica). hope this helps..
Hi Yoko! Such an informative and detailed video! 👏🥰 By the way, we are trying to contact you but cannot seem to do so. What is the best way to contact you? 🥰🥰
Hi thank you for the video, I have 1 question regardind luggage on train. If I have 2 or 3 luggages both under 160 cm can I stay in normal reserved seats or should i reserve 1 with oversized luggage?
wifi service has been so such better in Japan now. but local trains normally do not have wifi service. and not all stations have wifi. there's free wifi at many department stores and convenient stores though..
Thank you for the video! I have 1 question though, if we went to pay with credit card do we have to go to the ticket office or can we also use it in the ticket machine?
Thank you for this really informative video. If a seat is reserved online, is it still necessary to obtain a physical copy of the reservation at the station?
thank you so much! yes, for now, you still need to obtain the paper ticket at a ticket machine at the station and insert it at the gate to get on the train. i showed how it works here: ua-cam.com/video/1HanXXUv6y8/v-deo.html
Do you have some tips on how I can get from HND terminal 3 to any of the closest bullet train station? I just want to experience the bullet train while I have overnight layover in HND.
Hi, thanks for the useful info for first time visit. Appreciate you could guide how to go to Yogohama fm Tokyo or Haneda Airport. Need to buy JR pass or IC card enough?
thank you so much for watching! from Haneda airport to Yokohama, you can take the Keikyu train. depending on your arrival time, you can catch a direct train too. the last time i checked, they only take cash at the Keikyu ticket machines and counters at Haneda airport.
hi, if you have the jr pass, exchange for the jr pass at Narita airport, then use it to get on the Narita Express train from Narita airport to Tokyo station, then take the Shinkansen from Tokyo station to Shin-Osaka station in Osaka.
hi, if you have the JR pass, no need to buy more tickets. just use the jr pass to get on the trains. here's how to use it in real world: ua-cam.com/video/DjltyiVnr_w/v-deo.html
Hi, if I buy a JR Pass, how can I book the Shinkansen ticket? Is it just by using our JR Pass and inserting the Pass just like an ordinary ticket? As far as I know, only Hikari Shinkansen is available for JR Pass holders, so, depends on your answer, is it a reserved seat or a non-reserved seat? Thank you!
thank you! if you have the jr pass, you can insert it at the gates to get on normal JR trains or use the non-reserved seats on the shinkansen. but if you want to get a reserved seat on the shinkansen or narita express, you have to get that reserved ticket at the machines or ticket counters before getting on those trains.
Could I purchase 1 ticket from Tokyo Station to Hiroshima but would like to make a stop in Kyoto or Osaka for 4 days and then continued to Hiroshima without buying another ticket?
Hi, firstly thanks for the useful video I have a question, if I buy non reserve ticket let say I board from Nagano and I get a seat and along the way do I need to get up if someone reserve for that seat? 😅
thank you so much! that wouldn't be the case cuz reserved cars and non-reserved are separated. the reserved ticket passengers cannot seat in the non-reserved cards (unless there are available seats) so non-reserved seats cannot be reserved :) if you get a seat, you sit there all the way.
Hello Yoko and please to meet you, My name is Vincent and I am a student and a creator in Japan. I really enjoy your content on youtube. I have a request in hopes of borrowing some of your videos of shinkansen footage and use as a B roll for a video on my channel. Of course I will include your channel name in the description. Would that be ok with you?
Great video thanks Yoko. I have booked a shinkansen ticket (Tokyo to Kyoto) through the app and also registered my mobile wallet suica in the app. I also have the shinkansen QR tickets in my phone wallet. 'I'm a bit confused as to what gates I go through at Tokyo station and what do I tap on with? (I have seen on the smart ex website that if you have a mobile suica card AND shinkansen QR tickets in the phone wallet then you can't use the QR code to go through the QR reader machines at the station) What do I do? Thanks in advance.
Hi! Thank you so much for watching!🙏 just to clarify, you were able to register your mobile wallet suica in the SmartEX app?? I didn't know that you have the card number on the mobile wallet suica..
@@ONEGOODDREAM I'm having trouble with my reply to your question being "deleted" after I hit Reply. Thanks to the Apple Community forums I found a tip that suggested to download an App called Suica Finance. Once downloaded and then opened, the mobile Suica number is displayed at the top right of the App screen - everything else is in Japanese but the number shows OK. I was then able to register that number/suica in the Smart Ex App. (The 4 digits that sow on the mobile suica card in the wallet are the same as the last 4 digits on the number shown in the Suica Finance App)
oh I didn't know that app works for visitors too! if you already linked/registered your suica card number on the SmartEX app, you just need to tap your phone at the shinkansen ticket gates (using the suica card. you don't even need to open the app). the shinkansen QR codes are just for printing out paper tickets (if you choose to do that way). hope this helps^^ it'd be great if you could let me know your actual experience after you use it.
I’ve tried to sign up for this website and App multiple times. I used two different VISA cards, and each time it says it can’t authenticate. Is there something I’m not understanding?

Hi, would you know if the food cart offers small bento and if is it cheap compared to vendors at the station?
hi, the food carts don't offer bentos. they have light snacks and drinks. the price is pretty much the same compared to vendors at the station.

Thanks for your video it’s helpful. Can I reserve seat with oversized luggage online or has to do it at the station on the day of the trip?
Thank you so much!🙏 yes, you can reserve a seat with oversized luggage online.
Does all local trains have internet service in Japan or only in the stations thanks
No. Some stations have wifi, but they're not reliable and service is not guaranteed

you can take a JR train to Tokyo or Shinagawa Station and take the shinkansen to Kyoto.
Can you add the Shinkansen ticket to the Apple Wallet version of IC card? If so, how would you do that? Thank you!

I'm not sure what might be the issue... it might be the security settings on your pc, might be the cards or policies of your banks...
