Once the car got a few miles on it it seemed to run great. With that big of a motor, it never hurts to be a little rich. Our A/F always seems to be right on .
Big Block Chevrolet engines are so good looking under the hood, for regular production motors. Better looking than a Hemi, or anything else other than exotics.

Sick. Always bugged me how so many of those ‘69’s had driver door issues. The bottom where it meets the quarter panel always sticks out slightly. Both my ‘69’s has the problem too
Jack Milton we spent hours and hours working on adjusting and finally just had to settle with what we could get. Now you know why pure show cars cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to build
I bought a 2015 Camaro SS convertible and the bottom of my door sits in a good 3/8 of an inch from the quarter panel. I should’ve never accepted the it that way from the dealership

Dailied one of these (69 SS)in the late 80s most reliable car I ever owned and didnt baby it. Still got a polaroid of it somewhere from one of those grocery store $10 throwaway cameras. lol To the stick only guys, I prefer them too but with the little rubber and big tq that car has it would be a handful in any gear. Pick a gear part throttle it becomes a rollerskate.

My Dad had one of these, but a 396, not the big block. His was white with a black vinyl roof. His had an automatic transmission. The car would just vibrate when you started it. He would let me drive it up and down our driveway. Wonder what it would be worth today.
@@L72Chevelle427 396 and 427 use the same 3.76 inch stroke crank . 427 and 454 use the same 4.25 inch bore blocks . and no , 427 and 454 pistons don't interchange , the wrist pins are in a different location in relation to the rings . connecting rods are the same for all three engines . 454 uses a 4 inch stroke crank .
My question to you is did you build it or just pay for it and do you drive it like it was built for or just rub it with a diaper every day lets see some burn out vids
george diddy I built it from a shell of a car, over a 2 year period. The car has over 5,000 miles on it since built. Burnout video is on my channel. Check it out including some dyno videos and the first start my son and I did in the driveway

In the late 70's I bought one of these for $1500...It was nice but it only had a 327 engine in it......Never could get those hid-a-way headlight covers to work....Sold it in 1981 for $1800 because I wanted a new 1981 z28
J C it’s actually a 454 big block bored .060 over stock and then built with custom stroked crankshaft and custom length connecting rods and that how you wind up with a 496. And because it’s a stroker motor it builds mountains of torque.

Not everybody uses a standard size engine..... its a crate motor 454cid with a stroker kit bored 60 over and you come up with a torque monster 496.......

Certainly sounds strong and that's a beauty of a car as well for such a motor to be in, tastefully upgraded Is that a stroked 454? Could never build motors like that in the old days, I knew a guy who had a strong and built 427 L-88 and dropped it in a 69 Camaro, 4 speed with Ford rear, drag car only and it ran 11 flat with dual quads, naturally the L-88 was already built but he knew a few tricks and I think changed the cam and a few things, that was EARLY 70's at NY national speedway no longer around

Yes they are Dougs headers, but I don't recall the exact part number and all the receipts are in the owners file. But they fit perfectly.
How'd you like that fast fuel injection? Mines was a little on the rich side and I couldn't get it to go away.

Its sitting on stock style poly motor mounts. But I can tell you its a tight squeeze to get everything in there

It was originally a vinyl top car, but the owner didn’t want to put one back on. I still have all the original trim

It’s a 454 that’s been bored oversized. Not rare at all , just a great combination to build a lot of torque out of a big block

HP was 650 with the Holley and torques was around 520. Never checked again after switching to FI.

Awesome Dude almost went 572 with this car, but the build on this 496 was every bit as powerful as the crate 572 and wound up being less money

This combo even with the fuel injection gets about 7 miles to the gallon when your just driving around.
