Phil Sgrosso states, "'Roots Below' was a track I initially wrote for the Shaped By Fire album, but at the time we collectively felt it needed more time and attention to develop to its fullest potential. We were finally able to piece it all together along with some other material taken from the Shaped By Fire touring cycle, bundling it all into a deluxe version of the album. Apart from the studio versions of 'Roots Below' and 'Destruction or Strength,' there will be an assortment of live songs captured on tour from 2019 in Europe, several ballad/electronic re-interpretations, a studio version of an instrumental track we wrote exclusively for the live show, an instrumental version of the entire album, as well as some other transitional pieces from our set that we wanted to share as part of this release. This has been a very productive first step towards getting back into the creative zone and beginning to focus on new material for next year."
AS I LAY DYING also share details for the deluxe edition of Shaped By Fire, which is scheduled for release later this year. Stay tuned for more information.

I love Nick but Phil writes most of the songs while Nick writes the solos. I think the song writing will still be top tier. Sad to see Nick go though

Same here As I Lay Dying have been my favorite band since their early days in So Cal playing in churches and civic centers lol. I Love all their music but this song really gave me goosebumps it has such a classic AILD sound reminds me of sound of truth mixed with their very last album. Truly the kings of Metalcore something about them is like in tune with my soul that no other band can quite hit

@@mr.sidecomments9278 I think Phil is playing solos, because Nick has style od soloing and you hear his solo and you know it's him. I also read interview with Phil where he said that he started to refine his technique and practice more on playing fast leads.

As I lay dying was one of the first bands that got me into metalcore. They have always stuck to their roots and constantly improved. It sucks to see the band start to fall apart now. Hopefully Tim sticks to it and keeps making awesome tunes. He is definitely one of the best vocalists in the genre

This is one of those songs that I listen to over and over again, until I get sick of it, move on and then hear it a couple months from now and do the same thing all over again!
If this was released on the actual album, this probably has the second best solo next to gatekeeper. This song kicks so much ass!! Nick hipa left us on a high note and hopefully someone can fill in his shoes. Thank you nick and wish you the best!

AILD is one of those bands that, even though they change over time, always deliver awesome music. I've been influenced by them ever since I started playing in bands and it certainly shows in our music.

I would say AILD didn’t find their sound until Shadows are Security. Hipa (and Phil) are what took AILD to greatness.

Tim's vocal has evolved so much these last year it we can notice clearly in "Greater fundation" he sounds better there too. Phil is gorgeous in his solos, sure we all are grateful for him don't leave the band. Jordan is gorgeous the best world's drummer, it's sad know he's sitting out this upcoming tour and probably out of the band.. 😢 Will Tim ends alone? Will Jordan come back? 😔 I don't think this new bassist so good as Clint and Josh Gilbert were.🎤 This band is falling apart. It's still early too much for ending like this. I wanted to see ya together. Jordan sounds better than others metal drummers. Nah, Greater Foundation and all Awakened album are one of the best masterpieces of Tim. Shaped by Fire is awesome album, but not better than Awakened or Powerless Rise, just at same high level of quality. But Awakened is personally my fav of AILD.

Definitely agree, but it's still an album I can easily listen to front to back. What you said is exactly why I think An Ocean Between Us is their best album.
It was definitely rushed. You can tell they were trying (probably the label) to capitalize on "AILD is back."
You can tell the standout track was the single they released before reuniting officially, "My Own Grave" was superb. I wish the rest of the album had that much force behind it.
Here's to hoping the pandemic has given them enough time to sharpen their tools and put out a great next album.
That's why An Ocean Between Us and The Powerless Rise are two of my top favorite AILD albums.
