Lola, 14, is legally blind, but that hasn't stopped her from competing in the difficult sport of gymnastics. The Doctors give Lola the surprise of a lifetime, when she gets to meet her hero, Olympic gold medalist Gabrielle Douglas!

Hello everyone this is Lola To answer some uncertain questions I saw in these comments. So for starters I am LEGALLY blind. What this means is I can see everything that everyone else can see. However, I don't have depth perception, and so I can't tell how far away the bar or vault is. I have a condition called achiasma which triggers another condition called nystagmus which is why some of you said you saw my eyes moving back and forth. Also occasionally since my eyes are constantly moving if I'm really focusing my head will Bob back and forth, and on very rare occasions It will appear to me that the beam is moving back and forth. This is something I have had my entire life, and I have never seen any differently so I don't know how much different what I see is from what you see. Finally it was an incredible experience and I would like to thank you all for all of your positive comments.

Hi Lola! I'm a blind gymnast too, from the UK! I have double elevator palsy, nystagmus, cone dysfunction, photophobia, astigmatism and a few other conditions and compete with the GBR disability gymnastics squad! Lovely to know there's another blind gymnast out there! I'd love to chat sometime and compare notes on being a blind gymnast :) your an inspiration!

Hi, Lola. It's so inspiring to hear your story and how you did not let your vision problems stop you from doing what you love. I bet you're an inspiration to many as Gabby is. I guess you get made fun of sometimes for how your eyes are, and I can relate to that since back when I was little boys made fun of the fact that I was Asian. But after some time, I did not let that stop me from being who I am today. Continue to be the strong young woman you are now and never let anyone or anything bring you down, metaphorically and physically!

I lost my leg when I was three. One thing I learned a long time ago that even if EVERYONE says what you want to try doing is impossible because of your disability, if you think you can do it, try. No one but you can know what your limitations are and the only way to find them is to try and fail. But those limitations ARE almost always far beyond what the "experts" will tell you they are.
If you think you can't, you won't.

I don't agree that nothing is impossible. But much of what we THINK is impossible, isn't.
It is, for example, it is impossible for me to beat nearly anyone in a foot race. I simply can't run very fast, I have never been a fast runner.
But you should never focus on what you CAN'T do. Focus on what you CAN do.
And the only person who can know for sure what you can't do is YOU. Don't be discouraged by failure, don't be afraid to fail. You learn nothing new from success. You only confirm what you already knew to be true.
The only real teacher is failure. And failure is only will to teach if you face the reason you failed. Failure is not a kind teacher, but it is damn effective if you can understand what it says to you.

Abby Grace I have the same legal blindness but however mine is due to a condition called hydrocephalus and I don't see peripheral. I am struggling to move forward. I hope I can get closr to your outlook one day. She got onto this because she is legally blind and srill does gymnastics? Guess what? So am i. I have been legally blind for five years now and still doing gymnastics. It doesn‘t make a diffrence if you learn how to work around it.
It does matter and this is my friend your talking about so watch your mouth. She has been working her butt off i bet longer than you ever have and she is still doing gymnastics today and is a level 8 gymnast doing level 9 skills because they moved the skills. But i will tell you i did gymnastics with her for 6 years and even if that seems stupid to you i don't care because i can say she is one of the hardest working teammate, friend, student, and gymnast you could ever meet. Do t say this is a lie because you haven't meet her your just looking at her from a screen.
I completely agree with Ling Lee - I'm a blind gymnast too and it does make a massive difference - you have to work so much harder to do the same things everyone else does. Bear in mind there are different levels of blindness, Lola (and I) may well have worse vision which would impact on our gymnastics more
