0:56 check out the japanese live action sometime, I always preferred the movie ending. There are 2 for Death Note then technically a 3rd that goes off on a tangent and has little to do with the series.
I would love to see you revisit Saga of Tanya the Evil, especially the second ending that you missed the first time around. It plays after a certain episode, which you will probably guess once you hear it, and it is quite the tone shift. Also make sure to watch the versions with the lyrics, they are pretty wild.
In the first episode, Light tells Ryuk about his plans to build a new world without bad people by just killing criminals, and Ryuk replies that in this case, Light will be the only bad guy in the world. Light doesn't understand him and declares that he will be the god of this new world. In the second episode, L confronts Light, and instead of simply operating from the shadows, remaining elusive, Light quickly becomes obsessed with the task of killing L, seeing him as the only obstacle to his plan. He no longer tries to fix the world, but instead kills criminals only to trick L. Sure, the Light vs. L arc is the best part of the story, but technically, in the overall plot, it's just a nested story. There's no way Ohba could forget about the bigger storyline. It's only after L's death that Light returns to his original plan to make the world a better place, and further developments were certainly necessary to resolve his dispute with Ryuk. So I don't agree that the anime should have ended at episode 25, but I do agree that it loses its composure somewhat in the next 10 episodes. But I like the ending. I think it really fits Light's character. He played it cool all the way through, but he was actually afraid to die. He refused to make a deal with Ryuk because it would have shortened his life, plus he was overconfident, thinking he could always find the best solution, and he usually did. That's why he had a breakdown when he realized he was trapped and there was no way out.
I feel like it's also worth noting how different Light's end is in the manga. He dies a straight-up scumbag in the manga and rather pathetically. The anime tried to make you feel sympathy for him and he acted like he regretted everything
I recommend that you check out MAXIMUM THE HORMON's album "Bu-ikikaesu" (2007). It contains full versions of the opening and ending of the second part of Death Note, but it's worth checking out the other tracks as well - the album is good in its own right. These guys are crazy, and in a good way.
Absolutely not. DN's tone is sort of all over the place and its really hard to take seriously at times. AOT and NGE, especially near the end, are way more bleak and grim.
Berserk is at least 10x darker and i'm sure there's still many darker shows out there. Although in fairness, whether or not they're tastefully dark like Berserk.... Prolly not.
Definitivamente tienes reaccionar a las versiones completas :D Por cierto, te recomiendo que busques alguna teoría de que L en realidad no murió. Cuando lo escuché por primera vez me pareció absurdo, pero tras analizarlo me dejó muchas dudas.
The way Light acted at the end is actually a rare case of me liking that behavior from a villain. Usually it feels out of place, but here it seemed very fitting, especially since Light already showed at several occasions that he doesn't act particularly dignified when things aren't going his way
You're by the way perfectly correct about that they had to lengthen the story of Death Note. The publisher wanted the manga to still be ongoing until the anime is finished, because it results in more sales of the manga. The mangaka originally wanted to end the story with L dying, Kira creating his perfect crime-free world and then getting killed by Ryuk because he's bored. You really should watch "Bakuman" which is the story of the two mangaka who made Death Note, written by themselves. They changed names of persons and manga, but it pretty much explains why things went the way they did and gives very good insights into how the manga and anime industry works in Japan.
Nothing like watching Death Note while eating potato chips. The intellect battle between Light and L was something else. Light Yagami was also an anime protagonist I remember Luke just did not root for
I love the Death Note openings and endings so much. Both visually and music wise they are brilliant. I've been listening to them non-stop during high school and even now I gladly listen to them. The ending of the anime definitely left a bit of dissatisfaction behind, but it's understandable from Light's character development, even if I personally would have felt better with a different ending. It shows how power can warp every person's mind and morality (especially of those who have a strong sense of justice), how arrogance can lead to one's own destruction. The ending of the show wanted to make us dislike him as he slowly changed and then give him the deserved punishment. If it ended with L's death, then people would think that Light just won. Light's end is a message, a moral lesson in itself. But yeah, I definitely have to agree that I also consider that certain event Death Note's true end. Finishing the anime on that episode would have made sense too. Either way, it's a brilliant anime, no question.
6:43 Nope. That was only step one. Then the director listened to the full version of the song they made, and he decided to cut and edit it so that it is even _more_ batshit insane
Yes the L arc was definitely the peak of the show. In the original manga the end of Light was actually in the warehouse in front of everyone else around. That wouldn’t have been long enough for an anime episode but I preferred the original. Regarding the re-visited series, I would love to see all the endings of Chainsaw Man!
The band that did the second opening and ending is Maximum the Hormone, a legendary japanese metal band that also did chainsawman's 3rd ending and the Dragon Ball Z resurrection F's ending. Check out more of their stuff, they're incredible!
3:09 I thought you were about to mention the Pikotaro meme song P.P.A.P. Ryuke ver., which I recommend even though its not original anime. Also Outlaw Star OP and EDs.
There are 2 movies (Death Note Relight 1 and 2, not the live action) that sum up the whole story with mostly cuts from the anime but they have a few remade and extra scenes. In one of these extra scenes Ryuk is back to his world and an unnamed shinigami asks him to tell the story because he's bored and interested in going to visit the human world, it was never confirmed but many fans think he may be Light reborn because the Death Note rules say that the users won't go to hell or heaven after death.
oh btw have you reacted to Kakegurui opening or the openings from don't bully me miss nagator (yes the name is sus , we are getting cultured with this one)
the accent was so intense that i don't remember them censoring the "f-er" line from intro #2 on adult swim back in the day (but i could definitely be wrong)
10:10 far as I know, there are a LOT one from netflix (westernized), 3 japanese movies (like a 2 parter with 1 extra), 2(?) spinoff live actions, and a 2015 JDrama (cheesy as hell, but I enjoyed it despite some differences)
While the wording of opinions differ, I think everyone wanted L to stay rather than be replaced by N. Also like you said though, it remained a great series even then. Just not quite as good. And for me, the way it ended with Light, on the last episode, was exactly what I predicted and thought I wanted… and yet.. I completely hated it my first time lol. Also the music is freaking awesome. Openings, endings, OST, all so good. Death Note was my favorite anime for a few years. If I could watch it again new it might even be my favorite again lol
I love OP 2 and especially ED 2 both songs are sung by Maximum the Hormone. ED 2 is f*cking awesome but nowadays this song is restricted and the original video is hidden in the band's official channel. You know it is a thematic song to DEATH NOTE and as much as the criticism they do in the video and also the lyrics can be problematic nowadays for many reasons. That's why I guess, it is so hard to find the original video on UA-cam.
I have rewatched this anime more than like 10 times, and I always stop before the last episode or two 😅…I just can’t bare to watch what was done to Light (again) 🥺😫
I appreciate your honesty impression. I have the same impression. However, Death Note was published in a magazine for teenagers. It was also very popular and influential, so it was difficult to finish the lights in a cool way. This is similar to the Attack on Titan. A happy ending would mean the justification of slaughter.
Light deserved to die for all the crime he has committed. But he doesn't deserved to die so pathetic like that, beaten by some new (cocky) kid without much story. It's not without reason that many Death Note fans hate Near.
I used to hate the ending of death note (the show kinda fell off after ep 27) but, serial killers in real life usually get caught because they slip up as they become confident and greedy. So when light started to become overly confident after killing L, i knew he was done for.
SPOILERS BELOW. I have found a metric ton of parallels with Christianity in Death Note and some unexplained bits that are common to both the manga and the anime which dovetail together nicely to give me a, albeit somewhat unlikely, great headcanon. It goes like this.
Since L, M, and N are quite clearly supposed to be like a Trinity of sorts, L--the Jesus figure--is supposed to die and rise again to save everybody. The Beyond Birthday thing, who is supposed to look like L's twin, may have ended with him being caught and making a deal to double as L. We may have never seen the true L for the whole series, though L would look exactly like what we've seen, but B. B., in which case it could be B. B. that died in his place (there's an actual hypothesis like this for the real Jesus too which is called The Twin Hypothesis). This would also have L outsmarting Kira, which we all thought would happen. I know that it's not super likely, but it is actually a live option, as far as I can tell, and meshes with canonical Death Note. Even if it weren't a viable option, to be honest, I would still choose to believe that this happened. It makes the ending of Death Note way better, in my opinion, at least for the anime.
In my opinion the one of the best written characters in death note is matsuda. He goes the whole show wanting to be helpful and makes many attempts to be but fails each time but at the end matsuda saves near and shoots light eventually killing him saving the world (depending on you’re perspective)
I honestly think Light had the best end for his character(besides getting away with everything). The part that made the ending not satisfying, or at least not as good as everything Pre-Death of L, was how we got to the conclusion. Near just had too many leaps in logic that didn't make nearly as much sense as L's logic. L had some leaps in logic, but you could understand how someone of his caliber could come to his conclusions, most of the time, while just pulls everything out of his ass. I also don't like how Light lost from pretty much no fault of his own, he had the perfect plan, but his accomplice just turned out to not be as smart as he thought, which I guess you could say is Light's fault for picking him, but not really. Near should've lost, but the author needed to find a way for Light to lose so they had Near miraculously win purely by chance. I honestly wish Deathnote had 2 endings. 1 where Near wins, and another where Light wins. Either way the story ends there. There's actually a really interesting Fan Made One Shot where Light won, and when his life finally comes to an end from old age(so Ryuk writes down his name), but before going to nothingness(since he can't go to Heaven or Hell), he first is sent to the Shinigami Realm where he has to feel the pain of everyone he killed using the Deathnote. So after his first few 'deaths" Light hatches a plan to use the time he has gained to overthrow the Shinigami King, and take his thrown, which would free him from his suffering, and allow him to continue existing as the new Shinigami King. I don't think anything else was ever made to follow that up, but it was a really fascinating concept that I honestly wish was real(I actually thought it was real when I first read it, because I was new to manga, and gullible). There are official One-Shots that takes place after the events of the main series, but they are pretty short, and just ok. If they were to expand them into series they could be interesting, but they probably never will.
Wait Luke, in your years you've never seen a main character villain before? Back when i was a kid, i watch was a Spanish live action series named: Rubí, not a big fan but my Mom loves watching it on tv every day back then, and my first thought about it was unique, she was the villain, but also the main character 😅

GOT.. in the past.. ppl always call Death note is the equivalent of Code Geass in term of story writing and intellectual mc with crazy plot twist so try that if you are really into Death note
Avoid the Netflix version like the Rona. There's a musical. It's a condensed version. It has versions in Japanese, Korean, English and Portuguese. It's made by an actual musical music composer. There's a tetralogy of movies The first two condensed the original story. There's a Japanese drama. It's interesting. If you take it as a what if you might enjoy the differences and similarities. It's the same story with changes.
Ngl. Death Note isn't really dark. There's many animes that are a lot darker. I'd say School Days are darker than Death Note tbh. But definitely Higurashi is a lot darker, that's pretty dark anime.
Apparently the creators second manga / anime wasn't very good. I think it's called Platinum End? Also Light's ending was pretty good, Ryuk did say he would be the one to kill him. And his reaction is perfect for someone with a god complex being brought crashing to the ground
I completely agree about where Death Note should have ended. I have rewatched the show now a couple of times and every time stop at the mid point because I just couldn't care less about later half. Funny thing is that the author Tsugumi Ohba's and illustrator Takeshi Obata's next collab work was series called Bakuman. Bakuman is about 2 aspiring manga creators. One who is a writer and other who is illustrator. In this story they create super popular manga that reaches it's climax and then they are basically forced to try to continue the story even tough they know it should have ended there. It is very obvious nod at their feelings towards working on Death Note.
The problem is that everyone loved watching L and Light and how they interacted and N and M were disappointments. We didn't care about them and they weren't as enterainting. What we needed was a another season right after L and before N about L's past and his connection to N and M. It would have made us care about the new characters and maybe more time with them would have made them more interesting. N was boring as a character. He was childish, but he didn't pick at people. It always felt like he really didn't care which kind of ruined his back and forth with both Mellow and Light. Mellow was interesting, but had bad direction. They were set up to be foils of each other and failed.
Second half's overhated imo. Near and Mello could've used a lot more foreshadowing, but overall it just shows Light's downfall and how absolute power corrupts, specially after L's death.
The revisited I'm most anticipating right now are the FMAB and Re-zero Endings. I Like the ending of Deathnote and think it is the ending to be expected of someone who went power mad killing people with the power of what is essentially a Demon. However, I agree that after L leaves the story, DeathNote loses some of the oomph that was most interesting. Also, I completely support the revisited series after finishing a show, however, I do worry that committing to never watching openings and endings in the show itself robs you of the chance to develop the nostalgia many of us have for these songs, in some cases limits the impact( as some of them are far more powerful in context than in isolation) and makes it harder for you to succeed at things like the anime song quizzes.
Yes, there is a Netflix Adaptation, but similar to how the Meme goes, it's not really accurate at all. But if you go into it with an open Mind and take it with a Grain of Salt, not expecting the Characters to behave like in the Original but instead see it as an American Teenie Adaptation of the rough Storyline, it can still be enjoyable. It just usually doesn't sit right with Death Note Fans, because well... it's just not very similar to Death Note, and Light specifically is kind of a dumb Blanket. And it's an entire Story broken down into one Movie, so ofc it will be paced very differently and have different Content. Willem Dafoe as Ryuk tho!! And Mirai Nikki... I mean you already watched SAO, so I don't think it's any Use warning you of Mediocrity. Nor do you really care. From what I could gather over your Journey so far, you are comparatively easy to impress superficially and you usually don't dare to call something bad because you believe everything to be subjective (which Taste definitely is, though there are still many Elements in a Story that can be broken down objectively). But if you just want to turn your Brain off and watch funny Colors on the Screen, then Mirai Nikki will probably be a very good Watch. It worked well on a big Part of the Community when it came out, that's why it got so popular in the first Place. It took a While for People to deconstruct the Story to really get to the Bottom of why the Anime isn't well crafted. And even back when I had a more positive View on it, there were Elements in it that drove me mad (mainly Character Actions). But in the End, you can't judge what you haven't seen, and it will definitely be a good Boost for your Views. So if you feel like it, go for it. It's only 12 Episodes after all, and it's worth having seen Mirai Nikki at least, to be able to participate in Discussions around it. The Concept is absolutely great and probably (similar to SAO) what pulled People in and captivated them in the first Place! And regarding the Ending of Death Note not fitting his Character: You might have heard this before, but he had a lot more dignified Death in the Manga. The Anime Version was quite worse IMO. And yeah, moving on from L was a *huge* Bummer to most of the People that liked the Story.
Death Note is awesome. When something is awesome you tend to see those in the shadows. Death Note overshadowed a show called Coda Geass. It is almost kinda the same vibe to Death Note. I really compare them to brother and sister. You will not find a bad word bout it
Part 2 of Death Note is definitely nowhere near as good as Part 1, but I think people trash on it too much. I hear in the manga it’s a lot better and less rushed. I will say though that I really like the final episode. Had the same mind game feels as Part 1 did.
Hello, About your expectations for protagonists to be good, Japan is not a christian/actholic country, so anime fans know that thair tv-shows/anime are not as manichaeist, characters tend to be more nuenced even in shows who have "good people " as protagonists, those "good protagonists/heroes" tend to be more flawed than alot of wester media who would idealize thair heroes and to make flawed heroes they'll call them "anti-heroes".
I'll solve equations with my right hand, and write names with my left. I'll take a potato chip and EAT IT *que dramatic potato chip bite*. Also the ending to death note was very bs, it is impossible to do what near did in the 24hr time spand they had
This is the one anime that I didn't care after watching not because of the story, is that the pacing is TERRIBLE after L died. I would rather watch the manga for the full experience. The anime...nah, forget about it. The ending feel rushed, even the live action movie did better than anime ending.
I think we all agree with you that death note is a masterpiece when L is there and that after that, it's clearly not as good. I think we all felt that. But because the part with L is so good. It is worth watching at least one time in your life. And then, when you hear the first opening again after a long time and see the visuals with L, you just want to watch it again, because this part of the show is a 10/10. The battle between L and Light is death note, i agree with you 100%.

Light Yagami was also an anime protagonist I remember Luke just did not root for
Revisiting reaction is absolutely new to me.
You’re genius.
Either way, it's a brilliant anime, no question.
oh yeah the ending of b:the begining (eng version) is fucking fire
Also the full versions of these songs will really wow you
@@Fireface82 he already reacted to the full versions of the songs on his main channel before he watched the show.
In one of these extra scenes Ryuk is back to his world and an unnamed shinigami asks him to tell the story because he's bored and interested in going to visit the human world, it was never confirmed but many fans think he may be Light reborn because the Death Note rules say that the users won't go to hell or heaven after death.
can't wait for chainsaw man
oh btw have you reacted to Kakegurui opening or the openings from don't bully me miss nagator (yes the name is sus , we are getting cultured with this one)
Zetsubou Billy also has a great music video.
You need to react to all the “ Maximum The Hormone” you can. They’re my favorite band by a long shot
the accent was so intense that i don't remember them censoring the "f-er" line from intro #2 on adult swim back in the day (but i could definitely be wrong)
10:10
far as I know, there are a LOT
one from netflix (westernized), 3 japanese movies (like a 2 parter with 1 extra), 2(?) spinoff live actions, and a 2015 JDrama (cheesy as hell, but I enjoyed it despite some differences)
Maximum the Hormone is such an amazing band. I highly recommend their entire library.
Yeah, both OP and ED are done by the same bands each time. OP and ED 1 being by Naitomea, and OP and ED 2 being by Maximum the Hormone.
You are already watching the darkest anime (but you don't know it yet) on your main channel XD
Back when i was a kid, i watch was a Spanish live action series named: Rubí, not a big fan but my Mom loves watching it on tv every day back then, and my first thought about it was unique, she was the villain, but also the main character 😅

ohh yeah zetsobu Billy is the shiet. Love that song. That was the one that truly got me liking MTH!!
check ending 2 Zetsubou Billy official video (full song), it is build around death note
* Maximum the Hormone - Zetsubou Billy
yes, zetsubou billy is my fave as well.
GOT.. in the past.. ppl always call Death note is the equivalent of Code Geass in term of story writing and intellectual mc with crazy plot twist so try that if you are really into Death note
Not sure if you reacted to Bakuman openings endings, it's another anime that's by the creators of Death Note.
Avoid the Netflix version like the Rona.
There's a musical. It's a condensed version. It has versions in Japanese, Korean, English and Portuguese. It's made by an actual musical music composer.
There's a tetralogy of movies
The first two condensed the original story.
There's a Japanese drama. It's interesting. If you take it as a what if you might enjoy the differences and similarities. It's the same story with changes.
Oh shit, I just revisited this yesterday
Ngl. Death Note isn't really dark. There's many animes that are a lot darker. I'd say School Days are darker than Death Note tbh.
But definitely Higurashi is a lot darker, that's pretty dark anime.
The 2 japanese movies ends with L and Light. Although they are kind of ridiculous, the concept of the movies ending is way better than the anime
The end is not bad at all, the near and mello story maybe is slower than L's, that's maybe but the ending returned the dramatic god epicness.
I think Elfen lied is very dark anime both mentally and physically
Chainsaw man opening and all endings!! Would love to see that next
i mean i dont think many people like that part after everyone knows what... it just fell
In the next video, please return to the endings of Re: Zero.
I feel people give the second half way too much smack. Of course I felt a pace change but I enjoyed it just as much as the first.
Pls pls PLS. You have to watch the second endings full music video or hear the song atleast. Its so good and has so many twists. REACT!!!
You say you want to watch the live action, but you really don’t want to watch the live action.
I'd say Berserk, Monster.. are the darkest animes
Berserk post-most of Golden age
I agree, the first half was peak but everything went kinda bland after L died, like what Light said "Everything's boring without you L"
Second half's overhated imo. Near and Mello could've used a lot more foreshadowing, but overall it just shows Light's downfall and how absolute power corrupts, specially after L's death.
17:52 try Ghost in the Shell ≈(GitS)and PsychoPass
He actually did revisit Brotherhoods openings already, so your in luck there
@@13swabra I know but I said endings cause he hasn't done the endings
@@flyingeagle3898 fair lol
I recommend the movie Macross Do you remember love?.
Its been almost 2 years since he started watching anime and still no Vinland saga😢
He is currently watching heavenly delusion after he finishes heavenly delusion he will watch Vinland saga (on his main channel)
@@Pathetic-Ali Wow really cant wait.
Death Note is awesome. When something is awesome you tend to see those in the shadows. Death Note overshadowed a show called Coda Geass. It is almost kinda the same vibe to Death Note. I really compare them to brother and sister. You will not find a bad word bout it
Not him doing the L cosplay
We want a revisit of chainsaw man opening and endingS next !!!
Part 2 of Death Note is definitely nowhere near as good as Part 1, but I think people trash on it too much. I hear in the manga it’s a lot better and less rushed.
I will say though that I really like the final episode. Had the same mind game feels as Part 1 did.
still hoping for a black butler reaction
For what I hear peaple saying before. I think they change the Ending of Death Note in the Anime, on the manga Light its the winner and became a God. 😎
Nah, Light is still killed by Ryuk at the end of the manga, but he begs him not to to it, which to my opinion is far more interesting.
@@japaniamanga3191 Now its getting better and they take that away from the anime. 😂
man needs some more villain shows or political shows as in those everyone is the bad guy.
No, Title for darkest anime ever belongs to Redo of Healer
Darkest Anime ever?
nah not even close lmao
that should be Texhnolyze or
"insert other suggestion"
Can you watch blue exorcist op
Word of advice, don't bother with the live-action death note
I think everyone agrees that ep 13 was peak and the ending not so much XD
Next jojo again please.
Hello,
About your expectations for protagonists to be good, Japan is not a christian/actholic country, so anime fans know that thair tv-shows/anime are not as manichaeist, characters tend to be more nuenced even in shows who have "good people " as protagonists, those "good protagonists/heroes" tend to be more flawed than alot of wester media who would idealize thair heroes and to make flawed heroes they'll call them "anti-heroes".
Naaa , death note is more suspenseful than dark, I think Evangelion or Perfect Blue are more darker in my opinión
I'll solve equations with my right hand, and write names with my left. I'll take a potato chip and EAT IT *que dramatic potato chip bite*.
Also the ending to death note was very bs, it is impossible to do what near did in the 24hr time spand they had
Not dark enough, but it does one of the fucked up ones,
doro hedoro
❤❤
Light dies in the manga a bit different
Darkest anime ever??
For me its either attack or titan or devilman crybaby ( Warning for you: dont watch devilman crybaby ever )
i absolutely agree with you about the continuation after L stuff, it should have just wrapped up. amazing battle of brains should have ended there
This is the one anime that I didn't care after watching not because of the story, is that the pacing is TERRIBLE after L died. I would rather watch the manga for the full experience.
The anime...nah, forget about it. The ending feel rushed, even the live action movie did better than anime ending.
kaguya sama revisit op
I think we all agree with you that death note is a masterpiece when L is there and that after that, it's clearly not as good. I think we all felt that. But because the part with L is so good. It is worth watching at least one time in your life. And then, when you hear the first opening again after a long time and see the visuals with L, you just want to watch it again, because this part of the show is a 10/10. The battle between L and Light is death note, i agree with you 100%.
Do NOT watch live action death note!!!
