Really, really good choice for a first anime! Your commentary and reactions are really good! Death Note is a great beginner anime, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is also fantastic. Attack on Titan is also highly recommended.
They made a good musical of this anime the movies they made of it that are live action are just less good than the anime. But the musical at least has good songs in it too.
Yeah Death Note is a classic! I am not a huge anime fan - but I have to say I like this one a lot. And yes - they did try to make this into a movie, but it's not very good. Specially with supernatural stuff. Maybe if the budget would be better. But a lot of anime, when they try to translate them into movies, it just doesn't work. It reminds me of the old super hero and comic book movies - before they were good. Looked great in comics, not so great in real life. But Marvel and DC have figured it out, so I think there may be hope for anime as well.
Whoever recommended this as yall first anime was smart and the type of guys we need in the community😂 this is where you start before you get into these long thousand episode anime that people try to beg you to watch because they like it. This anime arguably one of the greatest of all time.
To be honest, I never really got the "hype" about Death Note. Never even finished the series. But to me it's a good enough starting point if it gets people to appreciate and enjoy this whole new world that is Anime to them. Hope you all have fun watching the brothers react to it. ☺
I just discovered your channel and was pleasantly surprised to see you guys actually analyze and discuss unlike so many other react channels. an hour long video covering a 20 minute episode of anime is my kind of react content! thankyou!
anime is better. imagine fitting 50 episodes of 20 mins each in a 2 hour movie. Imagine the content cut. Also the movie is so trash not even lying lmao
@@JaredandJordan Death Note is an anime a lot of people recommend for first-time anime viewers cause it's sort of the gateway of the anime world and such a great anime/manga that should hopefully get you both hooked. The anime also provides long explanations so people don't get confused which is great for first-time anime viewers. Haven't watched the reaction yet but I could provide some recommendations depending on what you're looking for (light-hearted, action, sports, thriller/psychological, etc). Also, you're probably going to see a lot of requests on reacting to Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, Blue Lock, etc. I would definitely commit to Attack on Titan down the road because it's absolutely amazing and makes you think but will take dedication cause it has around 100 episodes.
godd, my favorite part of reactions to the first episode has to be when people go "I hope light doesn't go crazy with power" and then light immediately goes crazy with power it's so funny. like he doesn't even have a downwards spiral, he's already calling himself god in the first episode. oh I love this series
Oh wow this was really a surprise. Also HOW you even managed to dodge anime for 28 years is crazy because I feel like they are everywhere and as a child I watched so many without even knowing they were.. well, anime. Glad to see you’re enjoying this classic and can’t wait for you to watch other masterpieces and get to see how the animation style evolved over the years too. There are all kinds of genres of anime but some of my favourites as a child were Detective Conan and One Piece (which are known to be never ending, 1000+ episodes), while some I have been enjoying the last few years include Spy x Family (a mix of wholesome lightheartedness and action), Jujutsu Kaisen (action/comedy/fantasy), The Promised Neverland (fantasy/mystery/a bit psychological), Demon Slayer (action/fantasy and BEAUTIFUL ANIMATIONS) and last but not least, considering how you’re familiar with the idol world because of BTS by now, I think Oshi no Ko would be a pretty interesting and thought inducing one to watch (even Namjoon recommended it!).
Thanks so much for all of these recommendations!! We sorta wish we were exposed to anime as young kids. Definitely would have taught us some valuable life lessons. We’ll look into Oshi no Ko 😊🙏🏽
I'm surprised they didn't *accidentally* watch Anime growing up. As a kid, I would often accidentally fall asleep to like, Camp Lazlo, and wake up in the middle of the night to Death Note or Ghost in the Shell hahaha. The old "Cartoon Network Roulette"
@@JaredandJordan it's never to late to embark on any journey, wish you a lot of fun in this one, as well! One thing you will definitely learn about anime is that it's basically like saying "movie" or "TV show". The genre and style of anime can literally be anything the writers think of, for kids, for adults, romance action sci Fi horror thriller...pretty much anything. It's great you started with Death note because it will tell you exactly to shatter the idea of anime being juvenile or for kids. I'm 35 and have been watching anime since I was 7. It's something that's always funny to me because I am so normalized to what anime and manga is that normies have such a reaction like you guys. You got yourselves a sub!
@@JaredandJordan Attack on titan can be pretty violent and somewhat traumatizing, everyone seems to have adopted it as one of the recommendations to new anime watchers, but i still have to give a bit of a disclaimer i'd say. i'd prefer to suggest frieren as an alternative, it is great animation, good fantasy story, overall more pleasant. at least as my opinion of seasoned anime fan, there are indeed pretty violent stories out there and i usually don't recommend AOT, but i can't force anyone so at least i'll be feeling slightly better having commented on it.
It's my first time here, and I already love this channel. I found it so interesting that they did a lot of research before even starting the anime. I've never seen anyone do that before. Both of them provide insightful comments and make an effort to understand what the anime is trying to communicate. I love it here.
"How many names can he write down?" I think the Mangaka confirmed that the Death Note essentially has infinite pages, or however many pages it has is constantly "changing" to be "enough". Could be wrong though. Been a while.

Anime really covers complex philosophies in its unique way, different from any other type of media imo. A lot of work is put into every single one starting from the manga drawings, story telling, animation, music, opening songs, voice actors who go through a lot of training… I have big respect for the artistry of it all, it moved me to tears countless of times. It had so much influence on me that I got interested in Japanese culture and I’m currently studying Japanese language and literature at university. Hope you enjoy this amazing journey!
That book - for me - would be perfect for the terminally ill with no cure, in pain & tired of being in pain - I watched most of my family struggle with terminal illness & I could do nothing but watch
A good thing to know is that anime does kinda refer to a style of animation, which is why it's more than just Japan now. Back in the day Japan wanted to mass produce entertainment, so the government subsidized the industry, but the money wasn't much, so now today you have animation studios that have tons of money creating a cartoon style originally developed due to money limitations... so for example, the classic panning shots used to create tension without much movement, or everyone reacting in a scene separately and then a shot of all of them in tiles, was a anime trope because they would only have to animate one big picture and then move the camera focus to create many frames.
I am SO excited you guys are watching Death Note!!! Its personally my favorite anime series I’ve ever seen. It’s so methodical and captivating; I think you two being as analytical as you both are will lead to y’all enjoying every single insane twist it has to offer. And hang on, because it’s going to get INSANE! Can’t wait to see you guys watch the next episode!
This is a great anime for newcomers. It is still one of the greatests I've ever enjoyed. Most people have never seen adult animation before getting into anime. It's becoming more common outside of Japan in the last 10 years or so but western animation is still stuck in the "animation for kids" rut. Death Note the series really shows what anime can do.
Death Note was my 2nd anime. And I always say, good storytelling is good storytelling. Anyone who says what form the story is being told matters, hasn't consumed enough mind-bending good stories in their life.
With the way you guys take your time to analyze things and really digest what you’re watching, you guys would have a GREAT time watching Attack On Titan 10/10 can’t wait to join the rest of your anime journey 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
I'm so happy you're starting this journey! I love anime so much and the fact that you guys are reacting to anime after loving you on the BTS journey is just one of those things that just brings smiles to my face. Death Note is among my first anime since discovering this wonderful world myself, along with a few, so I'm excited to be the first choice. Thanks for the reaction! love and hugs
Guys if you like psychological thrillers, you chose a good one! It's one of my favourites 💜 I'd like to explain some things for easier watching: 1. Main character's name is Light - first name (read Raito - Japanese version of the word 😊), Yagami - last name 2. Shinigami is basically grim reaper, they're beings charged with a task of 'killing' people. They do it by writing down human names in their Death Notes (they have a lot of rules). 3. This show is a little old (2006) so some concepts might be outdated. 4. Japanese society (and Eastern Asian culture in general) are obsessed with exams and their results. They pressure young people into studying, so ranking is extremely important to them. Mind you, Light is first place in the Japan (whole nation ranking), so he feels entitled and smarter than anyone else. Boys, strap in for the emotional and moraly conflicting ride! Borahae 💜
I love that you're starting with Death Note! I'm here for this journey. I love Death Note, but it's been a while since I've seen it. So, if you go through the entire thing it will be a fun journey.
I did not expect this but damn I am so very glad you guys are getting into Japanese animation, after studying Japanese history an art myself in college last semester. I've more and more dove deeper into not only more historical japanese animations but also, knowing the cultural aspect makes it so much more interesting and fun. I know you guys will enjoy it and I'm excited for you!
Normally I skip the intro right to the start of the anime but you guys are actually really interesting! Thanks for reacting! I might encourage you to have someone moderate your comments. I've heard from a lot of other content creators that bad apples have tried to spoil stuff in the comments. You guys are gonna have a wild ride! Thanks for starting the journey!
It's always fun to watch how people react to the opening theme song. Everybody starts neutral... then by the end they either hate it with a burning passion or are trying (and always failing-- myself included) to remember the words lol
Anime when we were kids was considered weird and nerdy and no one wanted to identity with “those” kids. Now it’s mainstream and somehow us OG anime fans were ahead of our time and are cool-ish now. It will be interesting to see your journey. This is my first time coming across y’all. I’m 33, but have been watching anime since 1996 with Sailor Moon. I didn’t know what anime was until I was 12. I’ve seen many since. I tend to lean more late 90s and to about 2014. There’s a constant debate between dub and sub. I prefer dub as I’m dyslexic and it makes it far easier to focus on what’s happening vs only focusing on subtitles and having to constantly pause/rewind etc. I miss a lot of the show this way. Death Note is a fun anime. Also I can’t remember who said it, but anime is only an art form for which a story is conveyed. It’s no different than film. It’s simply just a stylistic choice. I wanted to be an animator because of the lvl of quality in anime. If you ever get a chance, look up side by side location images of places in anime vs real life. It’s incredibly accurate and beautiful!
This show is greatest of all time .. many people think that anime is some kind of cartoon but after watching it they understand that this shows are soo mature
Omg you guys!!! Im fairly new to anime and I'm buzzing to see you guys starting this new journey!! There are so many gems and you guys are in for a fun ride!!!
i seriously love it and felt amaze at how you twins analyze a part, a scene etc... it felt like you are really into it and wants to understand it, and as a reaction lover and an anime fanatic. its really amazing and i would love to see more anime reactions with great storyline like this... kudos to you guys... and btw i love how you guys use wiki to search for terms haha
The big problem is the information,if somone is framed for a crime, and didn't do it but light think he did it,light kill an innocent,so the information ,the uncertainty makes it morally wrong
You guys are a treasure! :D Good stuff checking out this medium! Death Note is one of the best for newcomers! Another one (that consolidates pretty much the highest standard of quality possible, besides maybe Studio Ghibli stuff) would be 'Your Lie in April'... though if you're emotionally sound, you'll probably have a good cry with that one.
If you're looking for more recommendations, which I'm sure you already have hundereds, you guys would probably enjoy "Hajime no Ippo". It's like the holy grail for boxing anime fans, with Ippo Makunouchi punching his way from being a bullied kid to a boxing beast. When "Hajime no Ippo" made its way to English-speaking audiences, it went by "Fighting Spirit." It's a show that'll teach you more about yourself than about boxing, honestly. As a kid who was bullied, it meant a lot to me. I never got yolked or learned how to fight, but I learned that no matter how hard you hit, or how much you're hit, the true strength comes from standing back up and having those who stand with you.
Damn you guys are very thorough with your reactions haha, i find it funny yet satisfying cuz that means you guys won't be lost at all while diving into something you don't jnow for the first time. Thank youfor checking out this amazing world of Anime.

oh man. I wish you the best Anime discovery journey. My recommendations are Fullmetal alchemist, dr. Stone and an anime movie Spirited Away as must-watch
Omg but Dragon Ball is such a legendary and iconic anime, all late 90's and early 2000's kids/teenagers here in Italy literally grew up watching Dragon Ball, it's so much fun and nostalgic, as it brings back so many memories. I remember me and my siblings coming back from school and quickly eating our lunch because they used to play Dragon Ball Z on tv at 2pm
This one’s a real compact story and a good start for people new to anime. It’s not one of the ‘five million episode sagas with half being filler cause the anime caught up to the manga for a while’ ones. It feels like a lot happens in one episode. As for a more, weird stint in anime, I would recommend Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. If you do go that route, each arc in the series tells a different story of a different character in the same universe and timeline. The individual arcs are loosely connected in the sense that there’s usually time skips between. As for plot…it gets bizarre. Now, for this episode. You guys are new to anime. There's a category called isekai. This is where someone dies in our world, and ends up reincarnated in another world, usually a fantasy setting with magic and/or video game logic. The biggest trope of that is the main character in those is killed in our world by getting run over by a truck, and it's often a joke that it's the same truck, nicknamed Truck-kun. So, jokingly, Light's second kill caused an isekai.
But yeah, just want to say - i really ADORE your "slow and steady, methodical" style of reaction (or, rather, its more "analysis" at this point). Its super rare and valuable.
51:59 I mean yeah Shinigami translates to "gods of death." Kami, object of worship in Shintō and other indigenous religions of Japan. The term kami is often translated as “god,” “lord,” or “deity,” but it also includes other forces of nature, both good and evil, which, because of their superiority or divinity, become objects of reverence and respect so not all kami are "gods" per se i would say most are more like spirits and other magical entites and also places and objects.
Death note was my first anime too. I watched it in high school and my life changed, the whole anime world is literally crazy once you get in.. there's no way out.
Just like there are tons of American comic series that never got an animated series or movies, there are many manga that never get an anime adaptation. You guys had it right
Death Note is one of the very few anime I highly recommend watching in the English dub. In the anime world Dub VS Sub is a huge thing, but DN's dub is nigh universally considered to be among the best, if not the outright best. Also if you really like this series, you'll love the anime Monster.
I absolutely love that you looked up the terms anime and manga first and that you are discussing your thoughts and feelings about it, instead of just jumping straight into the first episode. It was interesting to see you learn new things, please keep this up, it stands out positively to me in comparison to other reaction channels.

With the way you guys take your time to analyze things and really digest what you’re watching, you guys would have a GREAT time watching Attack On Titan 10/10 can’t wait to join the rest of your anime journey 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
This is my first time seeing your channel and can I just say, damn yalls voice is so buttery smooth
Your comment made us smile 😊
I'm so happy you're starting this journey! I love anime so much and the fact that you guys are reacting to anime after loving you on the BTS journey is just one of those things that just brings smiles to my face. Death Note is among my first anime since discovering this wonderful world myself, along with a few, so I'm excited to be the first choice.
Thanks for the reaction! love and hugs
this anime is 🔥🔥🔥
Oh yes it is!!
Guys if you like psychological thrillers, you chose a good one! It's one of my favourites 💜
I'd like to explain some things for easier watching:
1. Main character's name is Light - first name (read Raito - Japanese version of the word 😊), Yagami - last name
Man this is a high quality reaction. First time I've seen anyone really pick apart what they're watching.
Wow super in-depth I am glad I have found you guys!
I love your guy's studious approach to the subject not treating this just as another show but also trying to understand the culture behind it.
Oh wow....okay, This is new 🥳 I'm Excited 😂 waiting 💜
🤯💜
Normally I skip the intro right to the start of the anime but you guys are actually really interesting! Thanks for reacting! I might encourage you to have someone moderate your comments. I've heard from a lot of other content creators that bad apples have tried to spoil stuff in the comments. You guys are gonna have a wild ride! Thanks for starting the journey!
It's always fun to watch how people react to the opening theme song. Everybody starts neutral... then by the end they either hate it with a burning passion or are trying (and always failing-- myself included) to remember the words lol
I so appreciate how you’re approaching this series, very thoughtful, I like the discussions! First vid of yalls I’m watching, but subscribing anyway
I'm already waiting for Jujutsu Kaisen, Naruto and Attack On Titan
In Japan they say their last name first so his name is actually Light Yagami. Yagami is his last name
I appreciate seeing you guys diving deeply into the audio and the hidden messaging and the artistry of the anime❤
Attack on titan and Death note are my fav Animes of all time . I wish you continue this journey ❤
This show is greatest of all time .. many people think that anime is some kind of cartoon but after watching it they understand that this shows are soo mature
Omg you guys!!! Im fairly new to anime and I'm buzzing to see you guys starting this new journey!! There are so many gems and you guys are in for a fun ride!!!
this is gonna be good XD cant believe I first watched this show when I was 11, now im 26. somehow it gets even better rewatching throughout the years
i seriously love it and felt amaze at how you twins analyze a part, a scene etc... it felt like you are really into it and wants to understand it, and as a reaction lover and an anime fanatic. its really amazing and i would love to see more anime reactions with great storyline like this... kudos to you guys... and btw i love how you guys use wiki to search for terms haha
The big problem is the information,if somone is framed for a crime, and didn't do it but light think he did it,light kill an innocent,so the information ,the uncertainty makes it morally wrong
You guys are a treasure! :D
Good stuff checking out this medium! Death Note is one of the best for newcomers!
Another one (that consolidates pretty much the highest standard of quality possible, besides maybe Studio Ghibli stuff) would be 'Your Lie in April'... though if you're emotionally sound, you'll probably have a good cry with that one.
YOU are a treasure for this comment. Thank you so much for the love and support. Cannot wait to dive further into this world of anime!!
15:45 I love the way that you both tilt your heads at the same time lol
Best reactors I've ever seen lmao the way they stop at every important point is amazing and fun 😂😂😂😂
This is such a thrilling reaction. I loved hearing your guys thoughts during the watch. It takes me back when I used to make predictions when I watched death note
The moment in which the audience sees the list of names in the book it has only been 5 days since the Shiagamia lost the book in the human world lol
This series actually changed my entire viewpoint of the world.
OMG I literally just binged this entire series & it's sooooo good
We’re very excited to continue watching it!!
@@JaredandJordan you won't regret it - it's sooooo good
I’m so glad you started anime! + this one is a great one to start off, and I’m so excited to hear your thoughts throughout this show
Love how into the show you two get. New sub!
I love that u guys will react to this!!!! U guys pay attention to good important details and always show much care in ur reactions. I will support y’all no matter what area we go into :))
WOOOOW never expected this! but very hyped about it... plz I just hope you both keep reacting to it on utube... love your reactions!!!
Them: “They gotta turn it into a movie!”
Me: “No! Dear god, no! Look awaaaayyy! Look awaaaaaaaaay!” Hahahahaha
it's my first time on your channel and i love the amount of research and note taking you do!!
As someone who dont watch anime like that, deathnote was the first anime i ever watched and that show is dope. Hope yall keep watching
This is my first visit to y'all's channel, and you had me hooked the moment you said you take notes and always carry your notebooks. Death Note is my favorite anime, and I'm excited for you two to experience it.
Oh this is just a fking beginning yall r not ready for what's about to come? My first anime n a beloved one...when i say you'll never get bored n it will have your full attention I totally mean it!!!!!!! So Brace yourselves!!!
Ryuks hands were shaking in fear a little before he stopped it by clenching his fists at the end... ^^
I love how much effort they put into learning about everythig they react to, like searching up anime and maga r u serious? Always continue to be this amazing much love
29:37 Yes
We are so happy that you feel this way. Thank you for your comment and support!! 🙏🏽😊
@@JaredandJordan Oh, i just noticed. There's no ep2 on this channel? I see 1, 3, 4, 5, but no 2. Is it as intended?
yo this is hype, anime youll either love it or hate it, but theres nothing like it
Amazing reaction. I love your analysis of the episodes. This was very entertaining to watch youe breakdown.
Thank you so much!! 🙏🏽💜
Death note is in my top 5 anime so im super excited about this. Jujutsu Kaisen is also very good. So hoping yall watch that too
Jujutsu Kaiden is on our list! 🙏🏽
First time on this channel and your analysis of this show so far is so great! Can’t wait to see y’all it watch more
Just like there are tons of American comic series that never got an animated series or movies, there are many manga that never get an anime adaptation. You guys had it right
Just found this channel, looking forward to your Death Note Reactions!!!
Thanks so much for watching and supporting! 🙏🏽
Death Note is one of the very few anime I highly recommend watching in the English dub. In the anime world Dub VS Sub is a huge thing, but DN's dub is nigh universally considered to be among the best, if not the outright best.
Also if you really like this series, you'll love the anime Monster.
I think the Ghibli movies, Princess Mononoke is a STAPLE to start with! My first anime was Sailor Moon in 2000 🥹
Welcome to the amazing world of anime, I hope yall watch more shows later on.
Oh I'm so exited!
Also hope you'll be watching all of it with subs 🙏
Yes, we’ll definitely have subs on for all Japanese audio versions 😊🙏🏽 thanks for watching and supporting!
I absolutely love that you looked up the terms anime and manga first and that you are discussing your thoughts and feelings about it, instead of just jumping straight into the first episode. It was interesting to see you learn new things, please keep this up, it stands out positively to me in comparison to other reaction channels.
I can just tell you’re gonna love this
Now you need to buy a death notebook so you can write your notes there.
It's so good to see how well yall adapt to a new kind of platform of videos and make solid perditions keep it up I'm subscribing
Appreciate you very much!!
Immediately subscribed after seeing this. Anime has some of the best storylines and storytelling! I can't wait to watch the rest of this Deathnote journey and your follow-on shows ❤
I'm in awe how you start anime by learning it's origin.
Man, I'm so glad I finally watched this!! I remember when I saw the video pop up, and I got SO excited for you two! DeathNote is such a fun ride, and watching you two go on the twists and turns is going to be way too much fun! I've got some catching up to do...
