Great job and what a great donation! You got a beast of a card and we got an interesting video. Get one of those "prop stands" for that card!

Fantastic repair and rescue. It's still a 400-dollar card on eBay, not bad at all.

37.13 how did that work out? since you put the heat pad on the wrong side. its supposed to be next to the ram side thats why its the same length as that side.
you are supposed to see a heat pad through the front plate at 41.58 not chips

I'm not a fan (no pun intended) of the type of cooler that this uses since all it does is blow the same air around inside the case. I prefer the type that takes air from inside the case, blows it across the GPU and then out the case back thus drawing cool air in from the front. BTW I wonder what would have happened if you had populated that empty memory pad?

    •  Рік тому

Your talking about blower coolers, all my daily driver GPU's are blowers, but there almost extinct nowdays for consumer grade cards. The Quadro version of the RTX4090 as fare as a I know will use a 2 slot blower so there viable and doable and often prefererad in enterprise machines if you have multiple cards.
The problem is that no one is doing equivalent development on them for consumers, its hard to compare 3-4 slot openair coolers longer then some cases to a 2 slot shot blower fairly.
But EVGA did some world class blowers back in the day, Also ASUS do have a blower version of this card.
But yea this card wont fit my Midi case, its to long and would overheat asap.
Populating the last slot would most likely not do anything.
If it was that easy people would be doing it all the time.
Its all fused of in the die or vbios.
One could go with faster ram tough if thats available, people have done that mod on cards.

Did you reball the memory too before soldering it or did it come re-balled?

    •  6 місяців тому +2

It came balled. The Question is was it factory balled or reballed because it was removed from another GFX card.

BTW anyone knows how much it actually cost for manufacturers to make a vram chip? it's like 5$? 😂

Just hapened the same thing to me. I sold my old gpu to a friend, and the memory died on the gpu. So i gave him the money back and now i only have to figure out how i can test the memory on the card

Check the links in the description, I think those channels might have a video for your card.

I have a RTX 2080 ti Amp Extreme Core with the same problem, but I tried to remove the module and it damaged the pcb. I know that the free bank is disabled, but could it be useful? or I already have a good paperweight

    •  Рік тому +1

I only done this 2080TI, usually dont do modern stuff.
I dont know what your damage looks like.
I would assume you ripped a pad?
There are pad repair kits sold on ebay (probably gonna buy one at some point just for ripped pad damage), check mobile phone repair videos, iPad rehab I think have videos showing how to add new pads for the SoC of an iPhone, much smaller stuff so maybe thats one way to go if you can dig out the trace assuming pad/trace damage is what you have.
I never done it on a BGA chip, pad/trace repair but people do it so.
So you might have to do some research and practice to figure out if its doable and if you want to try to fix it.
Might be other methods I dont know about.
Also you can always get the data sheet for the ram and check what you damaged on the cards PCB.
If its just one of many ground pins it might be okay, might also be a NC (not connected pad),
Do that and you might be able to work out a plan.
Did you us a board heater or just hot air from above? I found that you need a lot of energy even with a board heater to remove the RAM chip, also helps with reinstall of the new chip.
Board heater I would say is a must on something like this but might be wrong, tough its a LOT easier with one.
I hope you find a solution.

And now you've got a new graphics card for your youtube editing rig, assuming you haven't already got something better.

    •  Рік тому +1

Its to long for my case and also uses way to much power so would overheat in my case.
So I got rid of it so it can fund future YT videos.
For the moment my 3900XT CPU is doing the encoding because my RX5700 is much much slower then even a mediocre CPU at encoding.

Buildzoid put up a video a few days ago on the RTX 4070ti where he mentions how the ram is placed between PCI-E and the GPU and how the pads can rip of the memory or PCB due to flex.

the memory chip on the board were 843, the 8 in front stand for I believe 2018 and the replacement is 943, which is 2019, so is it ok to replace a chip that is 2018 with a 2019 chip?

    •  Рік тому

I have links in the description to YT's that do this for a living that you can check out.
From what I understand Samsung ram is desirable on the card because then you can do individual chip replacement with no big issue.
So I checked with GPU-Z first to see what ram I had, It was Samsung so then I took it apart and ordered the equivalent model.
Hynix ram on the other hand required the ram to be of the same model and no exceptions from what I can find making it hard for people to track down a chip made in the same time period.
So with Hynix you might have to do a full ram replacement (not worth it due to cost), I guess you could use Samsung then and make sure the bios has support for that.
But Im no expert on the subject but I did leave links in the description to professionals that have more YT videos on the subject and thats where I got the knowledge to fix my card and they should have the information you want if my answer was not complete.

Help Sos! i have a RTX 2080 ti FE.
it had artifacts with code 43 witch is a memory problem actually! but after a phew reboots the card would work just fine for phew minutes and crap out again.
i saw some youtubers suggesting to blast the card on the core with a heatgun for 10 min. that completly killed the card.
    - NO Post!
    - Fans are on 100%
    - Even the Nvidia logo is inactive!
    - Is the GPU completly screwed?
    - did i manange to corupt the bios on the gpu with excesive heat?

I inspected the card nothing no burn mark or discolloring or missing component nothing.

    •  8 місяців тому +1

You should not use a heatgun on a GPU like that.
Uncontrolled heat will damage the card in many ways.
Derbauer (famous UA-camr) did the same thing to his card and if I recall he had to pay 250€ for Krisfixit 250€ or so for a GPU and ram Reball and I would say that was bargain price.
      ua-cam.com/users/KrisFixGermany
If your in the US there is Nortthridgefix BUT last I checked he dont do GPU reballing (he sad so in a video recently) becuse its not worth it.
But anyways here is his YT www.youtube.com/@NorthridgeFix
Both offer repair services BUT a RTX2080TI is not worth the labor cost of a GPU reball if there prices are anything to go by.

@ Major Thanks. I contacted krisfix he doesn't want to touch the card and others want to practicly sell me the same card. For 15 minutes of work.
