There are complications in having a grounded box that is worn like that. It would be a liability nightmare for a manufacturer. A common power distribution system that combines neutral and ground has a major flaw that when the common conductor fails the current will find a path to ground via the ground wire, and that poses a risk to someone outside a home holding (wearing) grounded metalwork. A GFCI can't help in that scenario, as the ground itself becomes live.
@ I’ll admit, I don’t understand your explanation because electricity is danger pixie magic to me half the time, but thanks for explaining. I guess that makes me wonder why the first welder he showed exists, as it is functionally the same?
@@Vikingwerk Given the choice I'd rather have a shoulder strap type so I could have a chance of dropping it if things went wrong. If a manufacturer made a backpack unit it might need to have a plastic case to avoid the risk of current flowing to the wearer via sweaty or wet clothing. Grounding is a complex subject and although it's relatively rare, you can sometimes end up with a significant voltage between electrical ground and actual ground.
This thing is awesome! I could see it being tiring, but for the fencing situation you're talking about it's probably way more ergonomic than carrying a welder on one shoulder
New Cranktown City video?!? Instant watch ✨ The sheet metal work is incredible, the final design just so great. Also love you went to help out a friend to test/demonstrate the Stinky Bag
New purchases are not the perfect, shiny, completed product - they simply arranged the raw materials in a convenient way for us, so we can build the thing WE wanted to build all along! That's how I like to see it anyway :D
i would like it if you posted more regularly. You are one of my favorite UA-cam channels. Entertaining and informative. Thanks for the videos. Keep up the great work.
You are not alone. The humour and the I don't brake for anything attitude makes the already great projects epic entertainment. Like the sticker on the welder backpack😂👍
Awesome video. That rucksack frame in the intro reminds me of all the pain I suffered in the 80s on expeditions. I'm glad they got phased out. Happy holidays, merry Christmas CrankTown crew
That's awesome. I would add a set of pop-out feet so you can set it down easily. Also you could add a small plate on the belt front for hooking magnetic angle holders on it. Get ones with an on/off switch so they are easy to remove from it, but wont get knocked off. Also maybe a small 3d printed one-way venting over the vent holes to stop water from being able to fall in it.
You buy something and immediately take it apart - that isn't a problem that's just innate engineering curiosity and this habit has probably saved my life on two occasions... once when I purchased a new Benchtop Power Supply on eBay only to discover that if I'd plugged it in, the entire metal body would have been live (and here in the UK, that's 220v) and once when I purchased a small, jobsite Table Saw from Amazon and noted that half the bolts holding the damned thing together were loose. Great video by the way and the end result was awesome !
There's very few creators I wait for on UA-cam, you're one... AvE, Project Farm and Torque Test Channel are the others. Awesome builds and making me laugh. Keep em' coming!
Ha-ha, I love that vibe “I have an idea, but not so many ways to use it…still doing it!”. Maybe adding RCBO to the pack would be a wise idea, in case a welder will suddenly take a break from life while it’s on you.
Legendary build sir! Secondary decal option: "frickin eclectic" I expect harbor freight to have a backpack option in their lineup within the next year after seeing this!
now make a backpack sized tig. plenty of small 120V tig machines, paired with a small argon bottle, you probably could come up with something pretty small. Its a project i've been wanting to build, a small tig rig I could keep in the truck of my car for emergency repairs and such.
The amount of power you can push through a transformer is proportional to frequency! If you look at 1980s computer power supplies they had tiny wattages and weighed a TON. That's because their transformers were running at 60 hz from the wall. Then they made switching power supplies that ran at hundreds of kilohertz in some cases, and the power supplies got really light AND their power ratings went through the roof.
This was FRIKKIN AWESOME!!! And you'll put it to use before you know it! Just gotta make sure you setup a place to have in hang on the wall where you're gonna keep all the projects you make on the channel.... and you'll show it in the last shot of all your videos, the way you showed you bad-ass Cranktown sign in the last scene of this vid... it ain't gotta be prominent and right there in your face, but just make sure it's visible in that last shot.... But then if you run out of room you kinda re-design the whole wall storage look and start a New 'season' of Cranktown City and start hanging up the new stuff you make.... - - Just an idea... but you really should make sure to have in that last shot of your future videos.... it's like free advertising of your previous videos.... and that's good practice ;)
Next up make an exoskeleton for it that grounds the weight while standing, with some spring assistance to help raising up from a crunched position. Could be cool and not that difficult to make maybe. Nomad Contrafact has some of those non powered exoskeleton projects.
all good but i would have put the spool on the bottom for better weight load distribution and maybe down port the gun cable.. maybe a backing pad if the frame tube digs into you stinkin electric.. awesome
Great idea. You might improve the comfort during periods of extended use by transferring a high proportion of the mass from the shoulder straps to the belt which you tighten around your hips. The shoulder strap should only stabilise the load. Can help with plasterer's crack too ;-) Merry Christmas etc
Awesome idea. I wonder if you can fit some type of auto height leg for a support brace. Like a pole from a tripod or something where it can slide up but not down. push a button and it drops down from the welder and hits the ground taking most of the load of your back. Use it as a built in stool like the doctors use for surgery. 🤣 Cheers 🍻
I like the parallel of it looking like a proton pack. Might make a great name for it (or some derivative). Maybe you could wire up an arduino to have it make the sound effects of a ghostbusters backpack.
I sat a late as last night thinking.. Wonder what happened to Cranktown City. Checked the channel to see if I'd missed anything, but no. Only to wake up to a notification. HOW'S IT GOIN'! Merry Christmas, champ!
Awesome. Wonder how far a lithium power supply would get you on a fence run. I could see using some kind of power supply if you had to do some fencing on a farm or property without much power.
I thought for sure you'd be shoving an Ecoflow and battery into there or something as a bespoke wireless option. Worst case you can get one and take it around like a briefcase and do some truly portable welding.
I found the K1 max bed to be extra finicky. Can't have it dirty at all. Dishwashing soap and give it a real good scrub with a newish Scotch Brite. Then a quick coat of glue stick. Or replace it with an aftermarket bed plate.
Esab teamed up with DeWalt and made a flex volt powered tig welder/stick welder. It Uses 4 flex volt batteries. I thought that’s what you were going to do is make a battery powered welder truly is portable and self powered
Thought you were going to use one of the battery based welders for it. That'd be super cool Don't get me wrong this was super cool, but that would be cool to lol
Now that is badass!
I’m honestly surprised no one is manufacturing this already.
I was surprised too!

@ aah that makes sense, thanks!
This thing is awesome! I could see it being tiring, but for the fencing situation you're talking about it's probably way more ergonomic than carrying a welder on one shoulder
id love this thing for fence and handrails
New Cranktown City video?!? Instant watch ✨
The sheet metal work is incredible, the final design just so great. Also love you went to help out a friend to test/demonstrate the Stinky Bag
That was pretty cool.
I was expecting it to be plugged into a portable battery and to be sponsored by eco flow.
Honestly this was even better
New purchases are not the perfect, shiny, completed product - they simply arranged the raw materials in a convenient way for us, so we can build the thing WE wanted to build all along!
That's how I like to see it anyway :D
You're my favorite channel on youtube, dude. Your content is awesome, and your sense of humor is quality. Thanks, man.
Am I the only one who get proton pack vibes 🥰
WHO you gonna call ?
Cranktown city 🤟
No man should have this kind of power
i would like it if you posted more regularly. You are one of my favorite UA-cam channels. Entertaining and informative. Thanks for the videos. Keep up the great work.
Now this is internet content! Raw engineering.
Damn fine build dude! Thanks for letting us come along for the ride!
This man needs a Bambu Lab sponsorship
this needs ghostbusters soundtrack :)
was just about to comment ' whoo ya gonna call?"
What a holiday surprise! I've missed your videos. Definitely a dinger coming your way.
You are not alone. The humour and the I don't brake for anything attitude makes the already great projects epic entertainment. Like the sticker on the welder backpack😂👍
I'm a Marine that has humped a ton on my back all day and while you were building that I was like NO not More Steel !!!!! :D
Love your shit man. :)
1. Liar
2. Loser
Liar.
Somewhere to hang a pair of snips, a pouch for some spare nozzles and you're right as rain.
A nice bit of kit that is, I am impressed.
New Cranktown vid day is a good day. Love watching you work mate, especially all the precision eyeballing.
Awesome video. That rucksack frame in the intro reminds me of all the pain I suffered in the 80s on expeditions. I'm glad they got phased out. Happy holidays, merry Christmas CrankTown crew

That is honestly such a sweet setup
Super cool!!..A new crank town city video..Hell Yeah!!!-John
There's very few creators I wait for on UA-cam, you're one... AvE, Project Farm and Torque Test Channel are the others. Awesome builds and making me laugh. Keep em' coming!
Made my day seeing some more CC content pop up dude!. You should sell those backpack welders!! Merry Christmas..🎄
Logo and paint job are really on point
Ha-ha, I love that vibe “I have an idea, but not so many ways to use it…still doing it!”. Maybe adding RCBO to the pack would be a wise idea, in case a welder will suddenly take a break from life while it’s on you.
Tool battery powered mod when?!
Excellent video, as always.
I like your videos before I even watch them,,,we love your content from the UK respect dude
A hero is born.
Legendary build sir! Secondary decal option: "frickin eclectic"
I expect harbor freight to have a backpack option in their lineup within the next year after seeing this!
Cool idea! Looks like a Ghostbusters proton pack.
Hell yeah that’s awesome bro!

I really like the idea of having a little argon cylinder on my back. Very star wars like haha
great to see you posting again. excellent video.
great fabricating again. Love the stinkin electric.

this guy is a genius, if i could by this on amazon i would.
Well done, and those shelves look great. I remember watching the video of you building them, but they stuck out to me in today's video.
"Stinkin Electric "power zapper 120. Frickin genius. You should patent it...
yet again, genius.
The Bob Ross of Fabrication!!! OMG you are hilarious!!!
If it works .... as that obviously does, it's not stupid. Awesome video, thank you.
Taking things apart is an addiction deeply seeded from youth.
Looks great!! For thin tubing and femcing work i can definitely see this come in usefull:)
Good idea , reminds me of the proton packs from the original ghostbusters! I might have to attempt a similar build using my stick welder!🇺🇸🇺🇸💯💯
Pretty wicked project brother!
I live in the Valley. Love your vids, bro. Oh, and none of my new tools make it past day one without it being taken apart first.
Great original ideas - well done as ever and keep it up.
Always entertained and interesting projects. Thanks.

Your sewing is mint 😁
What else do you need? Make a spot on the shoulder harness to put an f clamp(or 2) and/or a couple welding magnets.
Dude your videos are so good. Stoked to have this to watch on a Friday night while I mess around with my new 3d printer and CNC router
Next up make an exoskeleton for it that grounds the weight while standing, with some spring assistance to help raising up from a crunched position. Could be cool and not that difficult to make maybe. Nomad Contrafact has some of those non powered exoskeleton projects.
Oh shiiiiit and exoskeleton would be a good way to deal with the weight of batteries. That's an awesome idea
Genial!....se te prendió el "foco"!!!!....tal vez fabrique uno!...con mi propia marca!
all good but i would have put the spool on the bottom for better weight load distribution and maybe down port the gun cable.. maybe a backing pad if the frame tube digs into you
stinkin electric.. awesome
Once you're used to the weight, you can then add a big backup battery to run it from, to make it totally portable.
Haha, nice - nice to see ya again! 🍺🎅👍💥
Great idea. You might improve the comfort during periods of extended use by transferring a high proportion of the mass from the shoulder straps to the belt which you tighten around your hips. Outstanding, dude. 👏
I'm speechless! How do you come up with these priceless ideas?
Freaking sweet! I think you could add some cleats on the side to hold an extension cord . And you forgot the cupholder :D
Another great video. Go Batman. Awesome.
Its a great idea for sure!
I like the parallel of it looking like a proton pack. Might make a great name for it (or some derivative). Maybe you could wire up an arduino to have it make the sound effects of a ghostbusters backpack.
Hahaha that would be awesome
Very cool. Great job.
I sat a late as last night thinking.. Wonder what happened to Cranktown City. Checked the channel to see if I'd missed anything, but no. Only to wake up to a notification. HOW'S IT GOIN'! Merry Christmas, champ!
Cool build! Add in a holder for some MiG pliers!
Thats pretty fricken sweet
go go gadget welder!
Awesome. Wonder how far a lithium power supply would get you on a fence run. I could see using some kind of power supply if you had to do some fencing on a farm or property without much power.
It would be so sick to run off battery power but I think it would be wayyy too heavy
BRO was just thinking about you yesterday and was hoping you were doing okay - hope you have a good christmas!
very nice
Power Zapper 120 is amazing. Could use chest rig with square, angle hoot and what not. Maybe a drop leg hammer/pryer holster.
Love the channel!
Dude that's awesome. Great job! Definitely inspired my lazy ass lol
Fine, Fine, I'll do it! Attaboy
missed opportunity for ghostbusters cosplay! haha
beautiful work btw!
Need a Power bank version.
Also, careful with that wire feed bend, those feeds do not like it.
Have you ever looked into Spim08 lithium ion cells? I think they would give you enough amperage to make this thing totally wireless
Now to refill small propane bottles with welding gases of various types, to make it mo bedder?
I thought for sure you'd be shoving an Ecoflow and battery into there or something as a bespoke wireless option.
Worst case you can get one and take it around like a briefcase and do some truly portable welding.
Looks like ghostbusters, feels like batman. he ain't afraid of no gas.
I found the K1 max bed to be extra finicky. Can't have it dirty at all. Dishwashing soap and give it a real good scrub with a newish Scotch Brite. Then a quick coat of glue stick.
Or replace it with an aftermarket bed plate.
I"m impressed
Next project: DIY 500-lbs press brake
Awesome build. Does your camera gear look like your hands?
nice. only thing really that i would change is the outlets should probably be male twistlock (bulkhead/flanged) for safety reasons
Now you need one of those big wheel around rechargeable power station thingums.
Esab teamed up with DeWalt and made a flex volt powered tig welder/stick welder. It Uses 4 flex volt batteries. I thought that’s what you were going to do is make a battery powered welder truly is portable and self powered
Nice Proton pack Egon...
Who can you call (ghostbusters)
Now to make it cordless! 😁
If this is running on 110V you could strap some 8-10-ish 18V lithium packs in series and make it completely cordless.
Thought you were going to use one of the battery based welders for it. That'd be super cool
Don't get me wrong this was super cool, but that would be cool to lol
love it, wish they sold this .
next step you need battery and inverter. nice job!
Where's Weldo ?
The Superhero we didn't know we needed.
