WOW what a kick ass jam !
Man I love that song! It never gets old like us. LOL
Fior me, my 3 bands i love.. Rush, Saga, and Max webster. Greetings from spain.

Kim Mitchell unsung Canadian Icon

It made me smile, then made me cry. I MISS THEM!!
that's what I thought!
nice one Tomski!..Alex obvs cant keep away.. and why should he
Si.
I'm crying maple syrup.
This is awesome! So great to see Alex on stage again. Kim Mitchell always delivered a great show. Pete Fredette's voice as backup to Kim is one of the best ever. Such a strong singer!
I loved that. I want to watch it again.
I loved going to the shows back in the '70s when RUSH and Max Webster toured together. GREAT shows!
Same here. 1980 Chiraq.
Here because of Rush, but I have always loved Kim Mitchells playing. So smooth and is an incredible player.
Left handed too boot :)
Amazing simply Amazing !
That was awesome...love that tune...there is a helluva back story to that song that also ties into Tom Sawyer
Rush, Webster, Beer, and Wings... These are a few of my favourite things : )
Man his voice after all these years 🙌🔥
Love Kim Mitchell - every time I've seen him, it's always a great show. Solid Canadian rock!! Add a great contemporary and friend like Alex, and you have an amazing combination!! Thanks for posting!
I love the emotion behind Battlescar, it is one of my all time favorite tunes!
Love this Band!
Good to see Peter again
Man that solo part always gave me chills. What a treat to see Alex and Kim performing it together. Awesomeness!
What a night! Only about 1,200 of us got to see Alex perform possibly for the first time since "retiring" from Rush?!
He's played with Big Sugar , Chicago and possibly a few others since ' retiring' ... search UA-cam... very cool to be able to witness this though !!! Thanks to the poster !!!
I've seen other videos of him playing at various gigs over the last couple of years. This was the best one I've seen yet though.
Saw him for free in 2015 at Canada Day :)
I have seen him 3 times in just over a year in Toronto Big Sugar Nov 2017 and with the Rheostatics in March 2018 and now this Dec 2018 - check my UA-cam Channel for vid's from those shows... He's played other places too :D
And it drives me crazy. You guys got to see what could be a once in a lifetime thing completely by accident
Kim is guitar royalty and all our's!!!
Battlescar - The greatest metal tune of all time. Having Lifeson was great. I would give anything to see both bands together on stage.
Peter Fredette is a powerhouse singer
his voice is shot.
What a treat. Thanks for sharing with us. It was New Years Eve 1980 at Maple Leaf Gardens when Geddy came out on stage to join Max Webster and performed Battlescar.
How fvckin cool is this ?!!!
Holy crap! That would have been pretty cool to see live! They totally nailed it!
Saw Rush together with Max Webster about 40 yrs ago in Victoria BC. Glad to see them on stage together again. Rush is my all time favourite band 🙏🏻
I was at Maple Leaf Gardens for the new years show when they did Battlescar! It was epic! Seeing Alex on stage is great...miss Rush !
Now that's rock n roll people! woot
What a treat to see this, this has always been such a great song, Max Webster always was a special band of musical integrity and feeling, add Rush to a song, a collaboration of greatness power and emotion, a timeless musical statement that will live in the hearts of those it touches forever! "Thank you Canada"
love it!
Wow, I wish I was there. Hopefully these Canadian Icons can share a stage again 🇨🇦🎸
And that is how you celebrate a Canadian Christmas!
Such a CANADIAN DAD ROCK moment!
Rush was my first concert, which was the first ever rock concert at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, which I think was Feb 1980...anyway, Max Webster was the opening act...so actually Max Webster was the first real band I ever saw play live.
I was there! First one at the Joe. I actually had first row seats in front of Alex. That was back when you could get them from a scalper for under a hundred bucks. I have a digital copy of one of the concert posters on my PC FROM WABX (remember that station?). February 17 & 19, tickets $9.00, $10.00 & $11.00!!! With special guest MAX WEBSTER!!! Haven't missed a tour since.
cool! Rush was my first concert too! Dec 78 Maple Leaf Gardens. Was also at the Max Webster NYE show when the boys joined for Battlescar.
🙃
Cactus Pete... thank you so much for posting this... I was having a dreadful past couple of days and stumbled on your video.
Dam dude, my eyes are full of tears and I'm all emotional like it was 1976 and my first Max Webster/RUSH double bill all over!😥
You've brought some real Christmas joy to my 60 year old heart brother!
Kim, Lerxst and Peter still have it!!
Wow... thanks again I'm going to sit down now, l was air guitaring along with the boys!
I'm so happy right now, Christmas just came a little early for me.
Thank you 100 times.
By the way... the video quality and the sound are pretty good.
P.S. I subbed your site!
What a great treat to listen/watch first thing on a Saturday morning. Sets the tone for my day. Thank you sir!
Two legends hanging out..the drummer is absolutely perfect at playing double drum parts...hey what else you want?
Skin's and Metals Forever. Chiraq
So glad I ran across this, that was so cool!!! Moving Pictures tour was the first Rush concert I went to, and Max Webster opened for them. I was pretty stoned to the bone so I don't remember much about the entire concert, but I'm pretty sure they played this since it was just released.
I actually like this version of "Battlescar" - restrained drums and guitars in the beginning and gradual easng in.
Kim ...has always been on his game. So cool to see him leading with Alex.
Big Al tearing it up you got a love that!
L&A is my favorite KM song - seeing Alex join in was so cool.
Big Al! thanks for sharing this!!
I finally got to see it live!! GREAT!!
That little 'Xanadu' bit in the beginning was cute.
Fawkn awesome! Battlescar...crazy...thx for posting.
thank you for posting - that's too great for words ...
Great to see and hear, thanks for sharing!
Magic.
Great band - killer drum sound...
Excellent rendition of Battlescar! Peter can still hit the high notes. And what’s that I see? Andy Kim at the end? Saw him at an outdoor concert by the Lakeshore a few years back. He’s still got it, too.
Thanks for posting!
I actually grabbed Kim Mitchell's leg while he was performing in Winnipeg on New Year's Eve in the late 80's. It was while he was doing "That's the Hold" And by eyewitness account, I did it just before the guitar solo where the line in the song is "I'd rather freak out and make a scene" Kim just laughed. I was heavily intoxicated at the time. That's the memory this brought back for me
Brilliant!
Epic!
Good to see ya again Alex! You and the other two are missed sorely but as a 48 year old life long Rush fan I want to say I hope retirement has been relaxing because you guys deserve it. Great post!
I saw Max Webster and Rush together back in 1980
Dayton Hara Arena
Class
I have by accident picked up that very maple-fretboard guitar once, it was in the acoustic room humidifying at KAOS music. It's actually a Bill Nash made with Fender licensed parts.
I have touched the guitar neck of rock dreams!
Al and Ged have got to create original music together again! It's in their blood. I don't care if it's all instrumental, or a soundtrack! Something please!
They have already played with the greatest Drummer/ Lyricist in rock history... What do you want from them? If they never did anything else in their lifetimes, I'd be ok with it.
@@leddygee1896 it’s apparent Alex is not finished - he seems to enjoy playing still, and Geddy has stated that he keeps his fingers nimble on the bass, so why not if they can get another great drummer on board. Do you think Neil would be disappointed - I don’t. He was gracious and wasn’t petty!
Cool. Thanks for the post. First time I saw RUSH was Moving Pictures tour and Max Webster was supposed to open for them. My too favourite bands the same night. My hope was they would play Battlescar together on the stage. Unfortunately Max Webster broke up right before the concert and FM opened instead. This is a nice treat !
Same here dude ... and I was hoping to see Nash the slash with FM but he left them before these shows and Ben Mink replaced him and kudos to him for doing a great job...
Center Reps Yeah here in Edmonton we got stuck with Johnny fucking goddo, But again we had a portion of exit stage left record there most memorable concert
I went to that concert in Toronto - pretty amazing. It was Grace Under Pressure though, not Moving Pictures. I remember FM opening up and they had a neon sign on stage that said FM. They announced a song called Distant Early Warning and everyone was confused because that was the exact name of a song of the Grace Under Pressure album they were touring for. Both bands did a song with that name that night. Great show though!
@@fazooleq1523 FM ? Really ? I was at the Friday Sept 21 1984 show at Maple Leaf Gardens... my ticket stub says Rush and guest Red Rider .... there were 3 Toronto dates back to back... wasn't aware of different opening acts ... cool
wow amazing
To break my fast on honey dew
And drink the milk of paradise ; )
Love Alex he's a guitar god 👍
Very cool
Xanadu tease at the beginning.
I didn't catch that ...rewinding...
That's what that was! You know what I was thinking immediately and it didn't make any sense, it sounded like 'Changes' by Yes (Trevor Rabins part)…
I think that was Time Stand Still....no?....
Very brief, but yes it was Xanadu.
thanx
Tasty Lerxst starting at the 5 min mark ;)
Lerxst RULES!!!!
Whoa, what the hell is this? I never listened to Max Webster, but I think I'm going to start. I know they toured extensively with Rush. Battle scar is heavy and so musically interesting. Very impressive! It's great to see Alex on stage, such a great and versatile player.
I seen Rush and Max Webster at The Form ice skating rink! It cost about $5.50 it was so fun it was about 1977. I’m guitar player also so I would stand right up front then go home play to 3am trying remember everything they played. That’s hoI learned guitar
Peter's voice has held up pretty well, over the years.
Really... i think he is losing it.
With the AWESOME Pete Nunn on keys !!!
Lol at 0:48 that was awesome!!
I know I'm gonna feel stupid for asking this but what riff/song is that?
Is the riff from the song A Farewell to Kings ?
I don't think Alex ever joined Max Webster on stage at MLG. It was Geddy. Regardless, thanks for posting this!
That's correct John Bush. It was Dec.31, 1980 @ Maple Leaf Gardens & I was there that night.
Had seats in the greys with a friend & we rushed the stage for Max & to my delight Geddy came out for Battle Scar right in front of us as we pushed our way to the front of the stage.
more please
Who would NOT be on their feet after that one?
Now thats a four guitar front I would travel to see.
You know they shared a doob and a glass of wine after the show.
GOD is on stage..
did an edit with excellent audio @
Michael Wekerle (Dragon's Den) who has resurrected the good ole' El Mocambo in Toronto for a spring 2019 grand opening is trying to entice the Rolling Stones in performing for the opening night. Even though the Stones played a pivotal role in the El Mocambo back in the late 70's and would be cool to see them appear again.....i would LOVE to see a Max Webster reunion, with special guests for the grand opening!! Wonder if Kim & Co. would consider it for the right amount of pe$$os?? That would be massive....and it wouldn't get more Canadian than that!!! Hmmmmmmm......
Are you serious ...The El Mo , is coming back . The 1 and only El Mo on Spadina ?That is so right !
Rush reunion!
@ Jeff Hodge Fantastic thought although, to pay off both of these legendary bands, Mr Wekerle might have to sell off the El Mocambo lol. Hopefully both bands would consider giving a hometown discount?? Toronto has almost been like a 2nd home to the Stones so who knows??
Goddo as the opening act....
April Wine live at El Macambo is one of my favourite live albums.
audio is pretty good for cellphone
Nice Lerxst amp
Who else is on stage here, pray tell?
It's kinda got an Irish Reel music feel to it.
Great to see Alex back , but Battlescar absolutely needs Geddy...
The world absolutely needs Geddy.
Fredette's voice is shot.
Lager and Ale isn't a Max Webster song....it's Kim solo...just to let you know !!!
That was cool 😎 oh and two bass players. 🤔
Alex looks lost without Geddy! I just know I'm going to see them in the future:)
canadian jam session
Was that Kim who started playing Xanadu?
Uncle Sam’s time is only a greased wheel
Is the riff at 47 seconds from the song A farewell to Kings ??
could be, I'm not certain which tune
What, Andy Kim not invited up for Battlescar?
Where the hell did i die?...and this song has to have Geddy's screams to really work.
Strange. I saw Kim Mitchell in Edmonton two weeks before this, and he had just a bassist, a drummer and a keyboardist. No Jewish rabbi on guitar, no female backup singers, and certainly no Alex Lifeson.
was that Paul DeLong, on drums?
Awesome! Does anyone know who all the musicians were?
I know the bass player is Peter Fredette who has played on a lot of Kim's albums and has toured with him for decades. I'm not sure about the rest...other than Alex of course!
