Probably even more than most, considering he didn’t do shit for an entire 3 seasons. Or 4? Can’t remember if 4 or 5 was the season without him, but ever since then he didn’t do anything, anyway.

Despite the final season being obviously rushed, I give credit to all the actors playing their roles at their absolute best with what they had to work with. I could only imagine how great they could've been if they had a better script/story to work with in the final seasons.
The scene where they choose Bran as king is so funny to me. Not only do all these people accept a guy they know nothing about as king, but then they sat there and said nothing as Bran's first act as king is the single most flagrant act of nepotism in the history of the seven kingdoms! 😂😂 And then there's Tyrion calling him "the broken" repeatedly to his face thoughout the entire thing 🤣🤣
@@Springheel01 Sansa said previously that the north would never submit again to a southern ruler but now when her own family rules westeros she still demands they break up westeros and claims the north should never have to kneel to anyone (except her?)
@@hirvale Yup, he did. incidentally, the Unsullied are sailing to Naath to settle - an island where everyone but the natives die because of an indigenous species of extremely poisonous butterflies. So I guess they won't be starting families either way.
That sums up the last couple of seasons really. Epic scenes trumped substance. For example, Jaime galloping on his horse along the water with his spear aimed at Dany made for great visuals. Then, the water magically became so deep - him and Bronn emerged miles away with nobody going after him. Epic shot, but you had to forgive really poor plot holes.
Arya: “I know a killer when I see one” Jon: oh really? Was it the subtle look in her eyes or the thousands of dead bodies laying around that gave it away?”
This is the most laughably bad line they ever made Arya say. Jon could have followed with, "Oh, so you've never seen one in a mirror, then?" or "I thought you liked killers," or lots of other lines that would have pointed out how ridiculous the writing had become.
25:44 It's not that simple. A dragon recognizing Targaryen blood doesn't mean he/she won't harm you. Targaryen have been killed by dragons. What the rider of the dragon is feeling is a huge factor in how the dragon reacts to others. And even then, at the end of the day, they are uncontrollable beasts.
My take on Drogon's burning of the Iron Throne and sparing Jon, is that he recognized the motives of everyone involved. He saw that Jon was not motivated by personal power and was doing what he felt he had to do out of duty. He also recognized that Dany had been motivated by (and in the end, obsessed with) taking the throne. That obsession had corrupted her, so Drogon chose to eliminate the source of the corruption. His leaving with Dany's body symbolized the fact that she, and the Targaryens in general, were foreign invaders, who never belonged in Westeros and only ruled it by power, fear and dragons. As the last dragon, Drogon definitively ended that rein of fear forever. In the end, Drogon was smarter than we ever gave him credit for.
@@johnalden5821 The writers cast Bron as the leader of Highgarden. They would never write something like that for Drogon. I think you thought too much.
Spartans denial made me laugh: “Are they gonna name Jon King now?” “Is he gonna be at least King in the North?” “Will we see him as Lord Commander?” Maxbe he can be King of the Free Folk? (Ignoring the fact that the Free Folk don‘t have rulers, Mance Ryder is an exception, not the rule.)

Agreed. For me, the only part of this show where there was a massive dip in quality was the writing for S7 and S8. Particularly the last 3 episodes of S8. They maintained everything else across the board with the acting, costumes, VFX, set design, score and locations.
@@baderaw25 The terribly disappointing dip in writing for S7 & 8 certainly lowered it's ranking for me but it's still one of my favorite shows of all time and, IMO, one the greatest shows ever created.
Bran is a villian. He knew everything that was going to happen, including the burning of King's Landing, and he let it happen. He let everything that was in motion play out so he would end up as King. Remember when he said he couldn't be the Lord of Winterfell because he 'didn't really want anything anymore'? He sure took the title of King of the six kingdoms rather quickly! As soon as he said 'Why do you think I came all this way?' I immediately started side-eyeing him. But when he told Jon 'You were exactly where I needed you to be.' I knew for sure. He's the true villian of the show. He played the long game as the three eyed raven. Everyone else was just a chess piece on the board - and he just sat back and let them clear the path forward for him. Remember, Bran ISN'T Bran anymore - he's the three eyed raven - and he won the game of thrones.
lol. There's no point trying to justify terrible writing by incompetents that were in a rush to leave the show. The last two half seasons of GoT destroyed the show's legacy which is why millions petitioned to have them rewritten. They were that bad.
He took the Kingdom because he foresaw it. That's what he meant be "why do you think I came all this way?" It's not because he wants the throne he just knew that's the way the vote was going to go. Does he have the duty to stop actions that he foresees or his job just to foresee them and know what's going to happen but his duty is to let them run their course. I like Bran on the throne. The one who does not desire the power is the least likely to be corrupted by it and therefore should be the one to have it. You can say he let them clear the path, maybe my way of looking at it isn't correct but the way see it Bran's duty is to know what's going to happen, not change what's going to happen
Evil 3 Eyed Raven is actually one of my favorite theories. Especially because it’s confirmed that Bran being king is a George R R Martin idea, not a show idea.
I still like the stupid theory that bran is the night king. He says "why do you think I came all this way" because he actually came all the way from the Lands of Always Winter. More likely its just that the children of the forest / 3 eyed raven / old gods in general are just the real force of evil in the world.
Remember back to when Davos was talking to Missandi along the wall at Dragonstone. And he reflected on Nath's palm trees and butterflies. In the books, those butterflies are deadly/poisonous to non indigenous people of Nath. Greyworm and his troops are sailing to their deaths.
Jon’s ending is fitting in my eyes. He never sought out fame or popularity or power. Jon is a thankless hero. The vast majority of the people of Westeros will never know his name, but the people Jon loves and respects all know what he did for them and they will remember his deeds and actions. Jon sacrificed his future and birthright to make a better world for everyone else. How much nobler can you get than sacrificing yourself for the betterment of others.
The thing I always thought was that the results weren’t bad, it was the journey to them that was shit. It’s like taking a left at the end of your block and ending up in candyland. Maybe candyland is where you were going but your gps said it was 178 miles away. You were gonna make a weekend of it. Now you’re suddenly there. You’d wonder if you took drugs. Dany becoming the mad queen is fine if the writing builds up to it. Same with Arya killing the Night King. Thats fine, but they built up a fight between Jon and the Night King. Jon doesn’t need to kill him, but he could have served as the distraction or could have been with Theon defending Bran in the godswood or any number of things, then Arya could have come in and saved Jon’s life. Subvert expectations but still grant the payoff for seasons’ worth of buildup for that fight. But having these things suddenly happen, it’s just like “what the fuck happened, how did we get to this so quickly?”
Lol, if he never sought power everrrr, then he should have kept his mouth shut about his inheritance. But the truth is that everytime after saying I don't want it, he very gladly (with a face bursting with pride) he accepted The Lord commander post, The king in the North post. And he would have gladly take King of the Andals post too. But the show served him right by throwing him where he belongs. The grey waste!😂😂😂
Not sure how you get the Three-Eyed Raven as evil. It just represents the original magic/religion of Westeros before the coming of the First Men and the Andals. Basically, it is Westeros itself that won, having defeated both the Army of the Dead and the power-hungry madmen (and madwomen) who had taken over, with their dragons, gold-mining and sigils, etc. In other words, the Children of the Forest now get a say in how their own land will be governed again. I don't think that's evil. I think that is a kind of justice.
@@johnalden5821he's trolling lol bcuz people figure that the three eyed raven allowed a bunch of bad things happen in order to end up in the monarchial position
It's not surprising at all. Bran's wolf was SUMMER. The prior 3 eyed raven was most likely Bryden Rivers (Bloodraven). The power of the 3 eyed raven clearly sought key people that would help it towards its goals - my guess the goal is to bring back the ancient power of the land & a balance, that includes ending the imbalance of power by bloodline vs a worthy leader that is supported by the choice of the people.

The journey is over, from "Winter is coming" to "The Iron Throne". Thank you guys! My rewatch has ended. After this finale, the fandom went to sleep like the White Walkers until HOTD signaled a new awakening.
Well, it seems that fans didn't understand a shit. Bran has the best story, because he owns all the Westeros stories. That's the point of choosing him.
@@alejandroroldanortega819Him owning all stories doesn't mean he has the best story. That you like that he became king and why doesn't mean it makes sense and all other fans "didn't get it".

Yeah relate, I had been a fan since season 1 aired. Every year it was an event for me, the top tier quality, rich lore, weekly discussing with folks, it was an amazing time, but by the time the finale arrived I was just numb, watching just to see how it ended with slight-naive hope that they might just pull through the mess for a decent end to excuse the last 9 years. @@jirimar You liek the ending just because a character you don't like dies? lol low iq take. Maybe in media we should focus on the writing of the show not things happening like you like them
I feel the same way. I just can't watch anyone react to Breaking Bad. It's just way to slow and boring during to much of the show to react to. Just my opinion
Yeah, I gave Spartan some grief for a while there but overall it's been super enjoyable. Every Monday and Thursday popping on here first thing in the morning to watch. It's impressive that they could have that effect on me.
That scene with Haleana in HotD ep6. Her talking about the millipede, she said “the last ring has no legs at all”. It might be a call to the last king, bran stark
I bet this is the reason why GRRM doesn't finish his books. Because they end in the same way. And GRRM saw how poor it looked, how fans were angry, etc. And he struggles with finding the other, more appropriate way to finish his story.
I feel like a lot of the endings are what are intended (I've read GRRM did at least tell them where things were going), it just needs a lot better pacing. I can see a lot of things being set up in earlier seasons, and with more time to actually work up to the big changes, they could be great. One thing the books do a lot better, is being able to focus on the characters inner thoughts. Eg, in the show, Dany very very quickly loses the support of those close to her, and next thing she's burning thousands of innocents. In the books we'll be able to read her thoughts and see the inner struggle that the show just kinda skipped. Bran should be an advisor though, he's not a ruler by any means. I can't defend that at all lol
The biggest issue with Dany's ending was because they cut out another Targaryen character from he books, Young Griff. Him being king and loved by the people when Dany arrives, and fighting Dany over Kings Landing makes a lot more sense. Dany should be more tragic, not genocidal maniac.
I hate How they basiclly erased him and mashed His Character with Jon. Since there is No way in the 7 hells That Lyanna would be so dumb to name him Aegon even When Rhaegar already had a son named Aegon.
That's my feeling too. I think he will get rid of Cersei, or at least make her flee, and the people will celebrate his ascension to the throne. Then Dany appears and they don't want her, that will truly hurt her. I think they were trying to convey that in the show, but it didn't really work because the people clearly hate Cersei and the rejection was in Dany's head. Dany will go too far, but I think Cersei will be the true mad queen, she's losing it already
@@DarthKay093 I don't think Lyanna was the one to choose that name. Rhaegar was the one who was obsessed with the prophecy and clearly he didn't believe that the children he had with Elia Martell to be Azor Ahai, so I don't think he would have problems naming another son Aegon. :) Such a shame that they cut Young Griff though, but I think it was for time reasons. Having another hidden Targaryen thrown into the mix all of a sudden that late in the show would just convolute things unecessarily given that they also had to do justice to all the POV characters. I wish they had taken more time with it, but I also get as a human being that doing the same thing for 10 years + is too much to ask of anyone. Remember that the cast / crew can't work on other projects during filming so that is a lot of lost opportunity elsewhere.
@@GenomeSoldierDK still makes Rhaegar and Lyanna seem so damn selfish and Give the finger to Elia Martell and the other kids. I hate them for basiclly causing the death of Elia, Rhaenys and Aegon (in the show).

If you want a GOT comparison, Arya became Gerion Lannister. Probably got herself killed on a suicidal exploratory quest just like him. Also is a noble who falls in love with a commoner (Gendry/Briony). If Arya has a bastard child, their stories would be near identical.
Grey worm not killing Jon on the spot after he realized he killed his queen is one of the most idiotic writing decisions ever. Allowing him to go party with the nights watch is even dumber.
I love how you ignore the implications of such an action. That would start a war and probably result in the unsullied all being killed and wiped out, do you think gray worm doesn't care about his men?
@@DrewDragoon I doubt that grey worm would care about a potential war in the heat of the moment. Plus the north cant even make the argument that jon shouldn't of been executed. He murdered the queen of Westeros, the person he swore to serve. By law he should of been executed.
100% There is no scenario where Jon makes it out of there alive except for flying off of Drogon's back (unlikely). The way they treated Grey Worm was also insane. For all intents and purposes they are the strongest force in KL and control the city. It would've been way more of a poetic ending that Jon kills Daenerys knowing his own execution was inevitable
I think that the showrunners thought "Hey, we are famous for subverting expectations... let's do something no one would expect and make it a massive letdown!!"
You hit it on the nose. The showrunners relied on fan-service material (like Clegane-Bowl) and shock value to get ratings rather than deep compelling storytelling which was what initially grew the show's fanbase.
definitely. my opinion is that they went through reddit threads and fan theories and reaction videos and tried as hard as they could to write the ending in a way that no one could predict. and they succeeded. i don't think anyone could have predicted how bad the ending would be.
Aww Emilia Clarke said she was worried about how everyone would feel about Dany after the last episode because she loves her character so much & has meant a lot to the fans. Glad you enjoyed the show still & can’t wait to watch Breaking Bad again with you guys. That’s top 5 best shows of all time for me.
Breaking Bad actually sticks the landing. Perfection start to finish that only a few shows, like The Wire, BCS, and The Leftovers have been able to even touch.
this isn't snow.. those are the ashes from the burnt city. and as much as everyone thinks this end is terrible and not true to their character, it was all meant to be since the end of season 2. If you remember, Dany had a vision where she is almost touching the throne in a ruined crown hall, and we all thought it was snowing when it was burning. then she met Drogo and her child, which means she's dead with them and reunites with them as the Dothraki believed. also, the witch told her Drogo will be the same when the sun rises in the west and go down in the east. Now that she is dead (and can see him as she remembered) in the west, the sun of a brighter future for the 7 kingdoms can rise, while Drogon takes her back to the east to rest for an eternity. I think this end was poetic, I loved Dany through the whole series, but this is so philosophical. also, Bran I believe is supposed to represent a philosopher who knows all the truths of the world (by being the 3 eyed raven) and is the only one who can direct people to the light and show them the right way. very much similar to Plato's cave. this is how I see it, I enjoyed re-watching it with you!! ❤❤
Interesting to note that the final scene at the Iron Throne called back to her visions in the House of the Undying. And ultimately, it wasn't snow that was covering the throne and everything else (inside a destroyed Red Keep), it was ash.
I will say one thing that they did. That was really cool, the visual of the dragon coming out of the ashes was one of the coolest scenes I've seen in cinema or t.v.
The ending where tyrion says “there’s nothing more powerful than a good story” I’ve always felt is d&d patting themselves on the back and really makes me sick
Cersei famously said, "Power is power." But then, Cersei is now dead. I would argue that stories, if they are true, are indeed more powerful than lies.
Your S1E1 video was recommended like 15 hours after you released it and I’ve been following the videos ever since! I watched each video and it’s become a bit of a routine! Gonna miss the GoT eps but excited to see what else you guys will react to! ❤
Im pretty sure that’s not all Jon wanted, he was more satisfied being a leader outside nights watch, he wasn’t even happy when he saw the brothers of the nights watch taking him so yeah we should feel bad for him, he deserved much more and Jon knows it.
Dothraki #1 - "Hey, isn't that the guy who killed our Queen?" Dothraki #2 - "Yes, it is! We were her bloodriders, remember? What did that mean again?" Dothraki #1 - "Ehm, I can't remember"
And for years they've been following Dany's rules of no imprisonment. You can be forgiven if you swear loyalty to her, but all enemies are to be killed. They do not imprison people. Oh what's that, someone killed our queen? Well we better imprison him, because that's what we totally do! And now we're going to F off and go sailing away while they set the murderer of our beloved queen free, a couple weeks in a cell sure taught him a lesson
Let's not forget that Greyworm would never have let Jon live for killing Dany. They would have had to kill Greyworm instead of him sailing away like that.
@@bereasonable8018 But, but.... butterflies, man. 😂 Why they didn't execute Jon immediately is beyond me. There's a power vaccum, who is going to stop him (or her Dothraki bloodriders)?
Shoutout to the mods, for making sure you stayed spoiler free all the way through. Certainly paid off and made the experience even better for us fans of yours.
Jon, who refused that kind of power from the very beginning. Already in the first episode when he joins the Night's Watch he has to forsake all his claims to every title and castle he could ever inherit and he does so gladly. He didn't even want to be Lord Commander and gave that title away as soon as possible after his death. All his dialogue in the last season was "I don't want it (to be king)" If D&D did something right in S8 it is that fact that Jon does not end up in a position of power with lots of titles.
George RR Martin is and has always been very anti monarchy, anti inheritance of power. That Westeros moved towards a semi democratic system was the logical conclusion. But the lords laughing at the very concept that commoners would get to vote was also realistic. Westeros is not a society modern enough that modern elections would work, but having lords elect the king was a start to move towards a modern society.@@evatesche
As someone who watched this last season in real time with a group of friends who regularly got together to watch every week, it felt very obvious that the writers prioritized creating an ending that no one could guess at above all else, to the point that the ending they landed on just didn’t actually make sense with the characters. They were so dead set on not letting anyone have the satisfaction of having guessed the ending that they just ruined the show. It was honestly insulting and heartbreaking.
This was GRR Martin’s story and he oversaw the writing to the end. You can’t blame a storyline on producers when the ending was the writer’s intent, George RRMartin himself.

And yet GOT's ending makes no sense when you look at HOTD's events: - on HOTD, Viserys was not elected by birthright through his father, but chosen by the lords of Westeros. That failed, creating a huge war among the noble houses of Westeros - on HOTD, again, Viserys was chosen against his will, he didn't want to lead and become King, didn't have it in him and everyone knew it That failed, creating a huge war among the noble houses of Westeros. Heck it happened on Game of Thrones as well with Robert, who didn't get the throne out of birthright either, didn't want to rule and allowed the Lords and Ladies of Westeros to plot behind his back to grab power. - on HOTD, Viserys was favored over a woman who had 10 times if not more his legitimacy, will to rule and ability to do so. Actually, HOTD is all about how women are mistreated by the powerful, devoured by their will to rule, manipulated and abused, and GOT ends with Daenerys getting massacred over a storyline that doesn't make any sense regarding her journey through the show (and no, contrary to what D&D claim, Daenerys not feeling sorry for her abuser - brother - isn't a sign of "madness") and men who don't want to rule and have less claim to rule than her, are favored over her. Jon, Bran, both of them. - on HOTD, it's precisely Viserys' all affairs about heirs that creates this whole thing. The fact that "the Lords and Ladies" couldn't explicitely point to a successor, is what lead to the Dance of Dragons. - all of that, without beginning to mention all the prophecy parts on HOTD that don't pay off at all on GOT. When you watch HOTD, GoT's ending just doesn't make a bit of sense and it actually makes GOT's ending even worse. And you knew even just considering that Jon is a Targaryen and all, well the entire Targaryen Dynasty has fallen, there is nothing left, like yay. And GOT pretending that "the wheel is broken" when literally the show ends on the same rich, disconnected people (yes because the show pretends that the Stark are noble, poor, oppressed people but they're not lmao, they're nobility!) sitting in the same rich ass palace than the beginning of the show (and the beginning of the TV universe with HOTD) is just hella funny (in a very sad way). No wheel has been broken, Jesus. There are the glaring problems in this writing, and then when you think in-universe, it gets worse and worse.
@@generalmortars7557 Theres book already written about the HoTD called The Dance of Dragons, we already know the whole story, including everyone who dies
I’m so sad it’s over! I looked forward to watching these reactions every week, it’s been a pleasure watching you two react to this series and share your thoughts. What a journey it’s been. Your insight and opinions were always on point, thank you!
I understand the void in your hearts - we felt the same after watching when it originally aired, which is why it was SO awesome to re-live it through you over the last year.
Jon's arc was never going to be about glory or a throne. From the moment he took the Black, he resigned himself not only to a life of duty, but a life of anonymity -- no better or worse than Qorin Half-Hand or Mance Rayder. He knew what he signed up for. But he will always be the Crow who brought the Free People together with the people of the North, ending thousands of years of war. That's better than a king. That's a legend. The real tragedy for Jon is that he loved two women, and he lost both of them because of duty. That will be his burden for the rest of his life. But if there is anywhere in Westeros that he can forget those losses and move on, it's in the Far North. I like Jon's story better than all the others, I think. The truth that we all come to know (maybe with a bit of age), is that we all have to serve. We all have duties and responsibilities -- and choices. Very few of them end in glory or even in basic recognition by others. How many of us toil in complete anonymity and get no honor or commendation? How many crucial moments in our lives come in the dark of a sleepless night? Life is not about power or glory. Life is about serving and striving because you love the people you serve, whether it is your family, your partner, your country or whatever. You don't do it for congratulations, you do it because they need you, and because that is what good, strong people do. And you would not fail them in a thousand years if you could help it.
It wasn't snowing in King's Landing, what you were seeing was ash. :) Edit: Okay done watching now! It's been so nice following your journey through this show!
I'll miss your reactions, for sure. They became such an integral part of my weekly routine, it will be weird not to have more videos to look forward to. I wish you luck going forward and I hope HoTD returns as soon as possible so I can have those reactions to look forward to as well. Greetings from Bulgaria!
Pudgey, I love your take on Sansa’s ending. She got to be Queen and have power “on her terms,” like you said and I think that’s beautiful. In the end of her long suffering journey, she finally has agency and won’t use her power in the way people like Cersei, Joffrey, and many others used it on her. She truly is Ned and Catelyn’s daughter.
She schemed and backstabbed her family in the last few seasons and helped push Daenerys over the edge just so she could finally be a queen and have power to herself. She's basically a littlefinger 2.0 who actually succeeded in getting a crown. All her ending proves is that she deserved the suffering she got in earlier seasons.
Good job they didn't have to cast the book cannon of characters, GOT had about 500 named cast the books so far has over 2300 named characters but I also wish they had shown aryas wolf dreams, because then you would have been able to bring that story line into the show x
I'm still not sure about Lady Stoneheart. From what we know so far, her parts went to Beric Dondarrion and he did fine with it. It also gave that much more weight to Jon's resurrection since we didn't see it already with Catelyn. But it's impossible to really tell until we see where else GRRM takes Lady Stoneheart in the next book(s). I think the omission of Jaime telling Tyrion about Tysha (Tyrion's first wife) was the bigger issue. Book Tyrion is so different and broken when he gets to Essos because of that. Also leaving out Young Griff created a huge deviation from Martin's story.
I think that Arya might be the one to end her, idk I just think her storyline might culminate in the Riverlands with Nymeria. She killed the NK in the show but it still felt like the writers were struggling to give her something to do. Her ending is fine, but I never thought of her as an explorer
Bran - "I don't want to be lord of anything" (just a little ago) Bran - "Why do you think I came all this way" (just now) And that's why he has the best story & arc (that's what D&D were thinking i guess)
@@ARD-lk5pr No, Bran should be king because he can see pretty much everything going on in the realm, he’s smarter than everyone and most importantly he won’t have cruel children that will inherit the throne. Instead he’ll pick his successor just like the three eyed raven did with Bran
The sad part is that, especially with some of the reasons Tyrion gives in his dialogue to Jon and some minor glimpses in her rise in Essos, you could see where the rush to close the story this season is what failed her arc into becoming a villain. We needed more time to really see her struggle with Westerosi politicking to truly get over the issues with her trying to use her "grand liberator/breaker of chains" style of conquer and rule to do the same in Westeros and the pushback and distrust she would face as a result (along with spin campaigns from the more savvy ruling class to turn public opinion against her more). To really sell that Westeros, despite being where she was born, was not her home, that she wasn't or at least didn't feel welcome and nowhere near as loved and basically deified with little effort like she was in the slave cities. To really make every loss both in battle, in public opinion, and in her treasured friends push her deeper and deeper into a dark place. Because really, Dany is and was way out of her depth politically even in Essos; she became a fighter but never genuinely evolved into a ruler. It's like the smart kid in high school who aces things without trying hitting the wall when they hit college. And as she loses the people who evened her out or gave her guidance and things just not coming as simply as they had, on top of feeling like a stranger in what's supposed to be her home, on top of wrenches into the plan like the Battle for the Dawn and the knowledge of Jon as a trueborn heir in the back of her mind and of weapons that can actually hurt her dragons, her children, after already losing one...after all of this losing and being denied, this could have been a realistic spiral for her, until her "then let it be fear" line actually hits because she has given up on love and mercy and decides to be what she is, what has worked, and what she was even told to do: be a dragon. Go back to the short term solutions that worked at least somewhat for her in Essos and just wreck shop and move on. Fuck everyone else and only rely on the Dothraki and Unsullied - her people, since the Westerners choose not to be - and then go back to the other people, the slaves in the East, that also accept her. Everyone else can burn or submit and then, when they do, they can realize their "folly" and that her regime is for the best. It could have been done, the pieces were there. It was just pushed way too fast for the entire puzzle to come together in time and ended up a jumbled mess with maybe some pieces together forming part of the picture.
This was Tyrion and Varys' fault by trying to keep Cerci (the enemy) safe. Daenerys had a great plan of flying to the Red Keep and burning it down while all of her enemies were inside at the same time. Tyrion and Varys wanted to starve the city out and cause chaos and diseases, which would've caused nearly the same damage she had done here.
what kills me is how good it could have been if they kept up the level of the first seasons. It hurts because us hardcore fans waited for 10 years for this caricature of an ending...
D&D were offered a couple seasons to wrap the story and better flesh out Dani's descent into madness, among other plots. Sadly, they got hired to make Star Wars movies, so they decided to drop GoT like a hot potato.
Holy shit, time flies, journey has ended, i cant believe. You were the best reactions to GOT that ive watched and ive watched a lot of them, thank you for that! ❤️
"Once upon a time, a woman was picking up firewood. She came upon a poisonous snake frozen in the snow. She took the snake home and nursed it back to health. One day the snake bit her on the cheek. As she lay dying, she asked the snake, "Why have you done this to me?" And the snake answered, "Look, bitch, you knew I was a snake." -Natural Born Killers
I really did like Jamie's ending in the sense that Brienne got to write all his good deeds and at the end it said he died protecting his queen. If you remember he was the king slayer, oath breaker, man without honor. Even though it was Cersei who we hate, he got to die with honor being an oath keeper protecting his queen instead of being the king slayer. I think that was Jamie's redemption story and I liked it because it wasn't the stereotypical redemption story. Jamie was a complex character and I think they did a good job with his story. I also liked Jon's ending. I think what they were getting at in the end was that Jon wasn't gonna stay at the wall he was leaving to go live with the wildlings. He's going to be with the only people who truly accepted him for the man he was. He wasn't very accepted in Winterfell with his family because he was a bastard. Then even when he went to the Night's Watch and became commander he got betrayed and murdered by his own men. But the wildlings always accepted him. They didn't care who he was or what his titles were they accepted him for the type of person he was. Some people have said he's now the new king beyond the wall.
Book Dany is easily one of the best characters of literary history (imo) and Emilia Clarke’s portrayal of her in GoT was such a joy to watch. It’s just a shame that the show runners completely misunderstood and ruined her character. Hopefully GRRM writes an ending worthy of her true character. David Lightbringer has great videos analysing her character in the book and a great GoT channel in general. I would highly recommend!!! Regardless, GoT was a good show that made me feel all kinds of emotions. I will miss your incredible reactions to the show!!!
I think it’s fair that some disagree with you. I didn’t mind her ending, and as someone who only watched the show, he insanity was hinted at for years, and for me I thought she was gonna go the way of her father the moment she burned Sammy’s family. I was looking for clues and I saw them almost everytime Dany was challenged. The hints were there. Once Mysandi was killed I knew she was going to snap. When she did it was no surprise to me. Idk, I think it was fine. Insane people aren’t considered insane until they do something crazy. It always comes out of nowhere and the clues it’s coming are always subtle.
@@davidwindellthe thing is, in the show, they just made her a tyrant conqueror whose philosophy was "breaking the wheel", while in the books her philosophy is more of "kings and queens exist to protect those who can't protect themselves". In the books she walks out in the middle of sick people to offer them water. In the books she cares. And all that makes sense for earlier seasons Daenerys. The show really made her different after season 5 and thus contradicted everything we'd seen from her before. She never hurt the innocent intentionally like she did in season 8, remember she always crucified the masters, never the slaves, and she even locked up her dragons 'cause they were harming innocent people, so what justifies her rampaging the entire town and not going directly for Cersei and The Red Keep? I'm not mad about twists but they have to make sense and this one wasn't built at all.
@@davidwindell The thing is, it was not executed well. Dany turning a tragic villain will be an amazing amazing journey if done right. So it was not that she went the way of her father, it was HOW it was done. Execution is everything Thats not true about insane people at all, their near and dear ones always see the symptoms You cannot blame the audience, fan favorites Ned, Robb, Cat, Oberyn, all had surprising faiths which seemed to come from nowhere and audience didnt predict and were shocked and cried but the audience still loved those moments! Because these were executed right and made sense Considering the reaction to the ending was just plain "what?" and mostly no emotions from the audience, its fair to say it was not done right at all. A right ending would have the audience sobbing and sympathizing with Dany but understanding that it was logical and only thing to happen. It would have impacted the same way many well done tragic tales in literature are.
@@hedersonlopes9280exactly what you said. And really she is the best Targaryen ever and one of the best characters written even GRrM won an award by just a compilation of her chapters. The amount of rich and complex story that involves her is insane. People are just biased if they say no bc SHE TRULY IS ONE OF THE BEST CHARACHTERS WRITTEN. That’s why she still has fans, that’s why she has so much haters and people who think she will go dark and the other half it’s just the biggest loudest fans of her character who will root for her. People are def biased or they just don’t care but objectively she is def the moment of the show and the books. If grrm makes her go dark in the books too it’s literally the most cliched most lazy ending EVER. There is too much to her character to be like yep she is gonna kill everyone now. The grayness of her character it’s gonna be the end too. Agh Emilia did carry the show too, like if she wasn’t in the show and this season everything would have been idk flavorless in my opinon. And I am not even her actual fan and I know all this lol. Anyway
@@baronhomer1 people who say this are first, full of shit, second, full of shit. The first full of shit is thinking GRRM gave them the actual end points. The second full of shit is thinking that even if he did, it will be the same results in the books. If you watched Justice League theatrical cut and Justice League snyder cut you are VERY aware that two stories can have the exact same major plot points, the exact same start and end, but be entirely different stories. Theatrical was hot garbage, snyder cut was amazing, both the same story with the same end.
@@baronhomer1 it wasn't and he did not. It's only ever been said that he told them the major beats the story would hit. The showrunners are the ones who missed the steps. And besides, if you are the author of what some consider to be the greatest fantasy work since the Lord of the Rings, would you really tell two chucklehead hacks like Dan and Dave how it actually ended? Think about it. You only have to compare the version of The Reynes of Castamere that Cersei told Margaery in the show to what Tywin _really_ did in the books to know that the Undynamic Duo have zero imagination.
Wow you got me emotional at the end... What a great series! Thank you so much! It was a pleasure to re-watch GOT with you... Can't wait for HOTD season 2 with you too!

@@drrohanjacobOr maybe the Night King spawns again somehow in the land of Always Winter which is why Bran sent Jon north and idk shit happens from there
Regarding Jon: Bran knew the Night's Watch was no longer needed. By condemning him to the Night's Watch he satisfied Grey Worm's need for punishment, but at the same time set Jon free to go to where he was happiest, The North. With the Wall irreparably damaged and the White Walkers gone, there is no longer a need for it. The Free Folk (what remains of them) are now free to interact with the rest of Westeros without resentment. This is actually the best outcome for Jon and he realizes it the moment he sets foot outside the wall, hence the smirk.
Until this day, my favorite show ever. Even if I didn’t love the ending in it’s entirety. And I enjoy watching people discover it for the first time. Watching you guys get inti this world and being surprised bu the twist and turns was great and it always reminded me of how I felt when I was seeing episodes for the first time. You missed all the speculations between seasons of everyone trying to predict what the next season would be like. Returning to this world with HOTD was in a way nostalgic, hearing the theme again for a new episode after years was great. Can’t wait to see HOTD2 and your reactions to it!
Sending John to the wall was Bran tricking the unsullied because he knows there's not a night's watch anymore but they don't. Grey worm thought he was being punished, but he was really being sent to where he would be happy.
You can't deny that cool shot of the Dragon wings on Dany. She really went off the deep end which was far from what she started. Really thought Jon had no choice but wish was Arya who did it. Likes the theory of Bran being evil and actually the Night King.
I didn't feel badly when she burned the people of King's Landing, because I remember when all those two faced traitors clapped and cheered when Ned got beheaded. Eff 'em.
😂 i definitely don't care about the small folk but Daenerys in canon would never do that shit. She's a Liberator and a conqueror not a bully and tyrant
@hokagedlo6133 She was a complicated character. Since season one her first impulse against anyone she felt wronged her, or didn't show loyalty to her, was to burn them down. She always had someone else play the good angel in her shoulder that stopped her at the edge, but the tyrant that feels entitled to rule because it was her birthright, and who happily threatened doom or actually carried out the threats was there every single season since the first.
@@hokagedlo6133Dany actually would. It just wasn't explained very well in the TV show. Dany would not let ANYTHING get the way of her sitting on the Throne. The TV show tried to use.her Dragon's death as her motivation to burn everyone. I think that was the wrong choice. They should have used Sansa. Imagine Sansa plotting to get Jon in the thrown..with Varys and Tyrion all in out. Now Jon has to choose between Dany and his family. The whole Dany/Sansa thing was right there in the plot to be used. And Dany would have killed Sansa if she tried to put Jon on the Throne.
Your finale analysis is perfection - and you helped me see a lot. We're used to finding joy in an ending when our fave characters triumph, and on the surface it seems Jon was robbed. But when you look at his hopes and the realities of his journey, the fantasy would be to think he would have been happy as King. He would have been miserable in King's Landing. The political wheel was broken and the storytelling wheel, too. Thanks for this!!!
Yeah that doesn't excuse how very badly it was implemented. Endings where our face characters don't triumph are a very popular thing, doesn't make this any better, it's just very shit writting from dumb and dumber
This was a beautiful journey with you guys and regardless of all the flaws in s08 it was over all a ton of fun and I’m thankful for every minute of every reaction .. speaking as a true peasant here .. ha pudgey lol love you guys ❤❤
I always saw it as Bran saw how happy Jon was with the freefolk and had given that up due to his duty to nightswatch, his family, the north and his queen. Him being pulled in every other direction but the direction he should go. Which bran knew and had seen. So sending him back to the wall as his sentence was really giving him the push to go back to where he was happy. That smirk at the end I see it as he wasn’t just opening the gate and watching the freefolk leave but that smirk and then riding off forward was him realising why he was sent there by bran. To leave with the freefolk and run from the wall with them
Despite the ending I have enjoyed my time with you guys so much. Thank you for giving this Lass some happiness on days she was feeling down 😊 il defo be sticking around to see what’s next. 💙
Thanks to you both for the journey and analyzing it fairly. Cheers to Pudgey for predicting Bran. I don't mind Bran being King, it is poetic but I hope that Bran being a point of view character in the books will make this seem less spur of the moment (assuming the books go the same way which I think may be the case given GRR Martin's stated love for "Broken Things".) As for Jon, it will take him a while to get over the trauma of it all, but being in the North with the Wildlings is a good fate for Jon.
You must have noticed that no one was beyond the wall after the fight. We can safely say that Jon Snow is the King beyond the Wall now. He has been chosen by people every time

Despite the final season being obviously rushed, I give credit to all the actors playing their roles at their absolute best with what they had to work with. I could only imagine how great they could've been if they had a better script/story to work with in the final seasons.
I can’t imagine how strange it felt for them to be doing those scenes knowing it doesn’t fit their character.
They did look very tired though. And probably subtly disappointed in the script also.
Sansa - "The North will stay independent"

The scene where they choose Bran as king is so funny to me. Not only do all these people accept a guy they know nothing about as king, but then they sat there and said nothing as Bran's first act as king is the single most flagrant act of nepotism in the history of the seven kingdoms! 😂😂

Arya: “I know a killer when I see one”
Jon: oh really?

Two words for me describes the ending of the show - weird and underwhelming. And even so - still my favourite show of all time 😄
I think of it as an ex relationship. Great while it lasted. Ended badly.
Agreed. For me, the only part of this show where there was a massive dip in quality was the writing for S7 and S8. Particularly the last 3 episodes of S8. They maintained everything else across the board with the acting, costumes, VFX, set design, score and locations.
Yeap, spot on.
I don’t think I can call any show my favorite with an ending this terrible.
Bran didn't see what was going to happen, he saw what happened. Big distinction.
Shoutout to the MODS. You guys helped them stay sweet summer children and not get spoiled. You made this journey possible.
Remember back to when Davos was talking to Missandi along the wall at Dragonstone. And he reflected on Nath's palm trees and butterflies. In the books, those butterflies are deadly/poisonous to non indigenous people of Nath. Greyworm and his troops are sailing to their deaths.
😂
Oh well, what a shame.
That’s why he’s befitting
Best Character in the series by a mile.
Jon had the most fitting ending for a Stark. A worthless man in a place where he can do no harm.
Years later I’m still shocked the evil tree demon wearing Bran’s meat suit won the whole Game of Thrones.
Well said!
is not evil is just practic, he left die 500K to save billions i think.

@@salmarwow I don't think it will end this way because there are more characters in the books that the show cut out.
Such a shame that they cut Young Griff though, but I think it was for time reasons.

Jon went North and froze, since he decided to go north during winter to a land already destroyed by white walkers.
Sansa lost the north shortly thereafter due to starving peasants rising against her, since she separated the north from the food producing parts of the country during winter and she was forced to flee in exile to Essos.
Arya got lost at sea since no one has any sailing experience and the crew soon devolved to cannibalism and the lifeless husk of that sad ship is still floating aimlessly in the sea.
Bronn was assassinated in his sleep by the reach lords who were disgruntled that a lannister gave away highgarden to a random seel sword over the other lords who have blood claims to the reach.
The unsullied made it to Nath and promptly perished to butterfly fever.
The dothraki suddenly remembered they were blood riders and their culture demands they take revenge for their fallen khal of Khals and started pillaging.
Seeing the north declare independence dorne and the iron islands declare independence.
Gendry made his way to stormsend and was promptly beaten up and thrown in a ditch by Stannis loyalists.

this isn't snow.. those are the ashes from the burnt city. and as much as everyone thinks this end is terrible and not true to their character, it was all meant to be since the end of season 2.

Dothraki #2 - "Yes, it is! We were her bloodriders, remember? What did that mean again?"
Dothraki #1 - "Ehm, I can't remember"

And for years they've been following Dany's rules of no imprisonment. You can be forgiven if you swear loyalty to her, but all enemies are to be killed. They do not imprison people.
Oh what's that, someone killed our queen? Well we better imprison him, because that's what we totally do! And now we're going to F off and go sailing away while they set the murderer of our beloved queen free, a couple weeks in a cell sure taught him a lesson
@@bobdondaomg I'm laughing so hard I actually fell off my chair. That's hilarious and so true.

Spartans optimism about Jon being in some type of power was pretty hilarious.
Jon, who refused that kind of power from the very beginning. Already in the first episode when he joins the Night's Watch he has to forsake all his claims to every title and castle he could ever inherit and he does so gladly. He didn't even want to be Lord Commander and gave that title away as soon as possible after his death. All his dialogue in the last season was "I don't want it (to be king)"
If D&D did something right in S8 it is that fact that Jon does not end up in a position of power with lots of titles.

15:41 The best shot of this season! Beautiful and so symbolic, like she literally became a dragon (scary, dangerous, unpredictable). Amazing shot 🖤
@@annewoodard6803I actually agree with you to some extent. But the events which took place in the last season should’ve been spaced out into 20 episodes and give legitimate reasons why some of the things happened. Too bad Joffrey has already spoiled the death of you-know-who.
@@generalmortars7557 Unless they got history wrong or some shit.
@@Tallgeese556 nah that wouldn’t make sense it’s gonna happen just like the books
And yet GOT's ending makes no sense when you look at HOTD's events:
- on HOTD, Viserys was not elected by birthright through his father, but chosen by the lords of Westeros.
That failed, creating a huge war among the noble houses of Westeros
- on HOTD, again, Viserys was chosen against his will, he didn't want to lead and become King, didn't have it in him and everyone knew it
That failed, creating a huge war among the noble houses of Westeros.

An appearance of Lady Stoneheart would have been legendary
The more characters you bring back from death the less weight death has, I'm glad they didn't brought her back.
Bran - "I don't want to be lord of anything" (just a little ago)
Bran - "Why do you think I came all this way" (just now)
And that's why he has the best story & arc (that's what D&D were thinking i guess)
Ahh yes because people don’t ever tell lies do they?
Bran just kinda... forgot about not wanting to be lord of anything
@@theblues8840 So Bran should be King because he's a liar? Well that's a much more satisfying ending (roll eyes).
It’s. So. Stupid.

Best in literary history? Seriously? I get that people enjoy the book series, and they are well written, but don't oversell it.
Execution is everything

You cannot blame the audience, fan favorites Ned, Robb, Cat, Oberyn, all had surprising faiths which seemed to come from nowhere and audience didnt predict and were shocked and cried but the audience still loved those moments! Because these were executed right and made sense
Considering the reaction to the ending was just plain "what?" and mostly no emotions from the audience, its fair to say it was not done right at all. A right ending would have the audience sobbing and sympathizing with Dany but understanding that it was logical and only thing to happen. It would have impacted the same way many well done tragic tales in literature are.

By condemning him to the Night's Watch he satisfied Grey Worm's need for punishment, but at the same time set Jon free to go to where he was happiest, The North. With the Wall irreparably damaged and the White Walkers gone, there is no longer a need for it.
