About 30 years ago, SRV got me out of a speeding ticket. I was bopping along listening to this song on the CD player, when a Kentucky Highway Patrolman pulled me over. When he told me how fast I was going, I apologized and told him that I was just into the song, and lost track of my speed. His mood instantly changed. "You like Stevie Ray?!!!". When I turned on the CD player, his smile flashed a gold grille and he said, "Just slow down, man.". What a talent, and what a heartbreak he was taken so young.
Sitting in the Nashville airport one afternoon. Waiting on Southwest. Decided to have a brew. I sat down and guess who was on my right. That's right. SRV. I thought this guy looks familiar. He had on a baseball cap and lots of jewelry. Finally it dawned on me whom im sitting beside. Turned out to be one of the most kindness and humblest guys ive yet to meet. He insisted on paying for everything. We actually ordered steak at the bar. I said hell no, I owe you this. His eyes welled up, he patted me on the back and said, thx for being real. That's coming from SRV. Truly a genuine man. I know,I got to eat a meal with him. A very real ,down to earth home cooked man. Miss you buddy. When we parted he said hey man thx for the conversation and meal. What a first class guy. No, executive class.
I already knew he was great guitarist cause of his real famous songs. But I started listening to him more about a few months ago. He's so damn good. Like it's crazy.
# Legend of epic proportions ! Gone too soon ! I feel fortunate to have seen him live about a year before he passed . At that pointhad his personal life together enjoying sobriety. May be R.I.P.
I worked on props for this video. A friend who did this kind of stuff needed a hand. SRV video, hell, yes! Stevie was a gracious guy, we chatted about amps, I strummed his famous guitar while it sat in its case in the basement, quite a thrill. His bandmates were good dudes as well, band/crew lunch up on the roof as I recall, Stevie hatless and comfortable with his baldness! Zero star trip. Incredibly sad day when he left us, rock on forever SRV!
Had recently gotten clean too. I saw him a couple months before the accident with Jimmy and the Thunderbirds and also the Gregg Allman Band. Monster show and the last encore was all of them on stage together. Brought the house down.
I heard him play, I'm a bass player. Audition and realized this man can play. Tail between my legs silent, walked out. Nothing more to say the Man was born to play.
LOL. Where do you think all that music originates from? He had the natural guitar skills and voice, the music and words originated from the other side. Nothing originates here, it all flows from higher dimensions down. SRV was a gifted instrumentalist, but he was simply a portal for the rest. Which means that when you RETURN to the higher realms you will have access to all that and much more you've never heard before.
Stevie was a master of the guitar, but more importantly he was an instrument of the Master. Stevie was a humble man who, even at the height of his drug addiction was preaching for us to love each other and help others when they are down. I truly miss him...
This is easily one of my top 5 favorite songs of all time. Great blues-rock jam from start to finish. Oh, and Stevie's guitar solo, that starts at 1:56? It's just EPIC. I don't use that word often, as I think it's over-used, but I think it's appropriate here. RIP SRV. You are missed every single day, and not a day goes by that I don't listen to this song at least once.

I was blaring this last week and a little old black man stopped and asked what I was playing....he said he hadn’t heard good stuff like that in forever....I felt validated...lol
Yep. Hard to believe it's been SOOO long since he passed. I'm twice as old now as I was when he died. I have pics of his grave the night he was buried. I cherish everything I have that brings him back for a bit ❤❤❤
That is because you aren't supposed to use headphones. You are supposed to lay a pillow on the floor, place speakers facing towards center of pillow at approximately 18 inches from center , turn volume to 1 Db under your speakers distortion level, then lay your head on a little bit of heaven for 4 minutes and 10 seconds.
God...Stevie Ray in 1989 was in a real state of grace...there wasn't anything or anyone that could really stand in his way. Even trapped in an audio recording or videoclip his soul was and is still burning like a star.
The thing that was so incredible about the way Stevie played was that he never held anything back. When he touched the strings on his guitar music surged out of every cell in his body. Full tilt and wide open all the way. No one else even comes close.
Sorry lilorbie lilorbie but Stevie Ray Vaughn was 15 years old at the time of Jimi Hendrix's death. But Jeff Beck and Stevie toured together. Wish I could of seen that tour..
@lilorbie lilorbie And Abraham Lincoln said "Don't believe everything you read on the Internet." That rumor about Hendrix praising another player has been floating around forever, usually involving Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. Gibbon's band The Moving Sidewalks opened a few shows for Hendrix; that would have been great to see.
I was born in the wrong generation I would of loved to meet SRV. I'm a big fan of him I'm trying to share his music to people so they can appreciate one of the best guitar players of all time.
He sure did and it is so funny that two record producers had the audacity to tell him he could not sing...(did tell him, he could play the hell out of that guitar)....
Yeah such a unique sound to his voice how could anyone not notice? But I guess musical greatness is determined by the listener and everyone's different...
We can all debate over who is the best guitarist ever, and for his skills alone, continue talking, but we mourn the loss of such a kind, generous, lovable and truly humble man. We have to remember though, we were lucky enough to see this MUSICAL GENIUS in our lifetime!!! SRV~ You are missed!
In the decades since SRV's untimely passing, he has, like all great artists who die too soon, achieved a mythical status among the guitar Gods. While there are many who can lay claim to the title "G.O.A.T," none can and wouldn't say that they were better than the Man from Texas. R.I.P Stevie. Rest assured that your music will not diminish with the passage of time.
Epic. Just a kick-ass blues-rock song from start to finish. This is what happens when you put a master at the controls of a guitar and let him do his thing. This is music, and it makes you wonder why others even bother to try. The solo alone is something to behold. He makes that Strat cry, sing, yell, whisper, and talk...all at once! I've always felt that SRV never got enough recognition for his singing. He had a great voice.
preech!
Criminally underappreciated as his voice is overshadowed by his out of this world guitar skills.
I agree 100 percent!

Tragic death.
he had the chops, for sure, but it was stevie ray's soulfulness that marked him out from the crowd.
