It wasn't until I actually looked up Kimiko's performance that I fully realized just how amazing your animation is. KG's take is (sorry to the other actresses) the premier version of this song and character in general. The soaring airiness of her voice is the perfect amount of whimsy, and her awkward dorkiness had edges in all the right places. The contrast between the two only makes the dork more dorky and the whimsy more whimsical. But here's the thing, I THOUGHT you had been punching UP the comedy with your various beats, but if anything you were subdued by comparison. The physical side to Glenn's performance was practically stringing one awkward comedic beat into the next. It was a genuine challenge to simply relish the beauty of her singing while being distracted by everything going on. By toning down the comedic side, and then indulging in depictions that revolved around representing her turmoil, you cranked the hesitant romantic pureness of this song (which was already impressive) up to 11. In a way, that may actually make this the truer representation of this song; not playing up how awkward and socially inept she was being in reality, but narrowing in on only the desperate hopes within her heart as they struggled against her own self-doubts. The rest of the world? Unimportant. EDIT: Playing this several times in a day leaves me even more to say; - The wry grin, flopping in frustration, banging on the counter all emphasized wonderfully how exasperated she was feeling. - Pulling her out from behind the counter for the start of her soaring number was an excellent move - the words "and I can't hide from it" are tied to taking off her glasses, a method used by people with glasses to "hide" by removing the details of the world around them, but you had her clean her glasses, keeping that aspect properly subtle - "to only get it given back" she puts her glasses back on. Having her feelings, and the harshness of reality literally thrown into her face. - Removing the random guys she randomly harrassed allowed the audience to fully focus on her thoughts and emotions. - Brought someone in for her to shake on "miserable wife" an act of silliness reminiscent to her antics on stage, but now it has been paired up with the portions of her lyrics in which she is actually indulging in irrational silliness. - Pulling her completely out of the world and into her own head for "he could be very kind" is perfect. This is the beautiful crescendo moment and having the diner and customers still there just pulls the audience out of this beautiful moment. - "find someone to talk to" you have the door not closing properly, but she also makes sure that it's not closed herself. You made a beautiful song even more beautiful. Congrats.

Honestly, I never liked Southern accents, most likely because I'm from Texas and it annoyed me that everyone had that accent. But Kimiko (sorry about my spelling) did an amazing job. She had a Southern accent in this musical, and it really works with her singing.

When the staircase turns into a slide and she slips down. It's such a perfect way to represent uncontrollably falling in love, it starts slow, just a few steps, and then you start slipping further and your heart just does what it wants.

It wasn't until I actually looked up Kimiko's performance that I fully realized just how amazing your animation is.
KG's take is (sorry to the other actresses) the premier version of this song and character in general. The soaring airiness of her voice is the perfect amount of whimsy, and her awkward dorkiness had edges in all the right places. The contrast between the two only makes the dork more dorky and the whimsy more whimsical.
But here's the thing, I THOUGHT you had been punching UP the comedy with your various beats, but if anything you were subdued by comparison. The physical side to Glenn's performance was practically stringing one awkward comedic beat into the next. It was a genuine challenge to simply relish the beauty of her singing while being distracted by everything going on.
By toning down the comedic side, and then indulging in depictions that revolved around representing her turmoil, you cranked the hesitant romantic pureness of this song (which was already impressive) up to 11. In a way, that may actually make this the truer representation of this song; not playing up how awkward and socially inept she was being in reality, but narrowing in on only the desperate hopes within her heart as they struggled against her own self-doubts. The rest of the world? Unimportant.
EDIT: Playing this several times in a day leaves me even more to say;
- The wry grin, flopping in frustration, banging on the counter all emphasized wonderfully how exasperated she was feeling.
- Pulling her out from behind the counter for the start of her soaring number was an excellent move
- the words "and I can't hide from it" are tied to taking off her glasses, a method used by people with glasses to "hide" by removing the details of the world around them, but you had her clean her glasses, keeping that aspect properly subtle
- "to only get it given back" she puts her glasses back on. Having her feelings, and the harshness of reality literally thrown into her face.
- Removing the random guys she randomly harrassed allowed the audience to fully focus on her thoughts and emotions.
- Brought someone in for her to shake on "miserable wife" an act of silliness reminiscent to her antics on stage, but now it has been paired up with the portions of her lyrics in which she is actually indulging in irrational silliness.
- Pulling her completely out of the world and into her own head for "he could be very kind" is perfect. This is the beautiful crescendo moment and having the diner and customers still there just pulls the audience out of this beautiful moment.
- "find someone to talk to" you have the door not closing properly, but she also makes sure that it's not closed herself.
You made a beautiful song even more beautiful. Congrats.
