Saying goodbye to Endwalker was really hard. I’ve never been more attached to a story or world in a game. But I am excited to start a new adventure in Tural and see what the future holds.
That side quest could have been a single player RPG. Having to play as a villian at the beginning seems refreshing and the redemption arc that we can all sympathize for.
I always expect to cry at some point playing FFXIV, that's a given. The writing goes beyond just the story and characters, and speaks truth. It touches the humanity deep inside me in a way that nothing else ever has, and makes me truly glad to be alive. I'm so glad I have tons of incredible games to keep me busy until summer hahaha!

Also I'm happy see that the writers knowingly taking a risk with not switching out Scions with new main cast, Its reassuring knowing that that kind of discussion is still on the table and at the very least something they consider even though Kate didnt say it outright.
I think Dawntrail is going to be a strong "sleeper" expac where people go into it skeptical or not expecting much and it surprises them. Expansions that deal with a specific locality issue in Eorzea incorporate those real-world political and sociological issues. Heavensward deals with the role of religion and faith in monarchal power. Stormblood explores themes of imperialism, isolation, and refugees. I can't help but wonder and hope that Dawntrail will tackle issues of the environment and extractive industries (energy/mineral) that are related to the Americas and their history. It brings to my mind other media like AVATAR or Princess Mononoke, where the viewer is invited to fall in love with the beauty of the world and its life in order to understand the exploitive threats it faces. In Endwalker we saved the world from an external threat, so I wonder if Dawntrail will focus instead on preserving it from internal threat.
I think the cannisters and giant housing and towers in solution 9 are to hold the souls of the people almost lost during 6.0. And dealing with all those souls locked away will be a big part of 7.0s story, possibly leading i to 8.0, when we release them to take them somewhere new.
The amount of scion time in the trailer was honestly the biggest thing killing my excitement. They are a great set of characters and I love them all, but there were points in ShB and EW where they took up so much screen time I started to feel like my character's existence was irrelevant, and the idea that them disbanding could be purely superficial and they still tag along for the entire msq had me worried DT would just retread story ground with the same characters. The trailer being one big scion montage had me so disappointed compared to seeing stuff like the new zones in live letters. Hearing someone in the dev team say they felt exactly the same about scions taking up room that new characters need was really reassuring. Now I feel like I can trust there'll be a reasonable balance and relevance with the returning characters.
Great to have your voice back in the FFXIV community! This interview is honesty the first thing that has made me excited for Dawntrail. I know Kate won't come out and say bad things about the game, but I've liked/agreed with their view on a lot in the past, so hearing them address one of my main criticisms (too much Scions, too fast) is nice
It's taken me a bit to get past Endwalker. I loved it so much! But Dawntrail seems awesome! Very Excited for it! I'm also so very happy you're back! I always look to you for FF14 info and perspective!
I doubt anything in Dawntrail will move me as much as Shadowbringers did, because aside from the Scions, there isn't anyone we're quite as tied to as we've had in the last couple expansions. I'm sure there will be some moments, but I have a feeling this will be laying foundation for the future, rather than trying to make me care about a character, and then quickly trying to break me over it.
Just had a wierd thought.... what if Krile is somehow eligible for the throne.... shes an orphan right? so maybe she doesnt have her memories of where shes really from and this is why her adopted grandfather has crypticly sent her clues for the golden city.
Even if the individual scions aren't working on the exact same goal, I think post-EW shows that the WoL will still be helping them each with their own goal. I think that is the purpose of these quests - that each have their own goals in life and the WoL will be supporting them in some way.
Which is lme since the MSQ seems more about the scions than the WoL. This is why Endwalker was better in this aspect.because when you traveled to elpis, it wasn't about the scions anymore
I've always loved Krile, and much like Tataru, I always knew they were safe somewhere. Now she's fighting with us, which is amazing, but if anything happens to her I am going to lose it. 😑
Bring it! I haven’t seen a single moment in this game that made me cry. I haven’t ever played a game that made me cry. Other than fallout 76 because I can’t log in.
I'm a new player who beat Endwalker recently (started about 5 months ago from ARR). Tbh, I really felt like uninstalling the game the moment I beat Endwalker and saw that "FIN" at the very end. It really felt perfectly wrapped up, like a triple A FF game similar to 7 or 16. Like... it all felt like everything in the story came full circle and though there is more adventure to be had, it all feels kind of optional and simply going around for the sake of it. I also play WoW so it feels like this will be the happy "Dragonflight" style expansion? Idk.
I had faith before just based on how the devs are, but the fanfest reveals of many things that dont align with "beach episode" have given me confidence
So the fact that both Heavensward and Shadowbringers made me ball my eyes out for nearly 4 hours straight wasn't enough. Yeesh Yoshi-P and crew, I applaud you guys writing department for making incredible content but come on there's only so much one box of tissues can cover.😅
I get attached to characters too easily, so the idea of not getting as much time with our scions is actually a let down for me lol but I guess we'll have to see what happens!

A little advice for Dawntrail: don't compare it too much to previous expansions. It's a beginning of a new saga that doesn't tie with previous stories that much.

Our Ultima Thule promises weren't fulfilled yet! They still have a lot to do and give to the story, and I was very disappointed by the writing in the last patches. Hopefully the expansion proves me wrong. Still it makes me sad to hear someone from the team want them gone :/

Tataru is with us from the beginning and she's had a supporting role just like Krile. Meanwhile G'raha is the newest addition to the group and is the first one being excluded from DT...Krile is getting well deserved spotlight and seems like Estinien, too. It would feel like something's missing if they didn't!
@@Lizard14 Tataru is clearly meant to be the standin for crafting mains, and she had a whole questline dedicated to her in EW, and estinien had the entirety of HW as well as being on par with every other scion in terms of cutscene importance in EW. I doubt all the scions will stick around next expac

I played Ff14 up until I finished endwalker. I am really bored of the game because honestly it is the same grind from one expansion to the next. I love the story but I don’t see any real diversity in characters other than cosmetically. It’s the same cookie cutter builds expansion to expansion every character is the same. So my question is is there anything in the pipeline to break this cycle? Like when ff14ARR started you had to level other jobs to get cross class skills in which if you chose to do that or not you were still affective at the job. The leveling of to two different jobs to unlock the specialized job crystal added variation and they should have let you go specialized or stay the job you started as. Stat points really need to make a come back in mmo’s this also adds variety to character builds. I want to come back to the game because I love it and got so many people to play because of the uniqueness of the stuff I mentioned but it seems they have taken the same direction of wow and super simplified everything and created a never ending cycle of relic grinds.
Right now, I'm betting on Zero dying. She was, to me at least, instantly sympathetic and interesting, and you wanted to see her story continue and her character find some way to be happy. So she's marked for death, by the rules of JRPGs.
Wow... to me, she single handedly made me stop playing for a while as I couldn't get through her cutscenes without spacing out. Her story was a shallow Mary Sue with no desires or personality that received endless praise from all our companions for minimal effort before battling the dark and light inside her with zero struggle
not to be 'negative' or 'cynical' but i kinda miss when devs/creators/employees kept their mouths shut until well after a thing released i get that it's exciting and i get that kate wants to be a somebody sharing new info, but like, i don't know maybe i'm just too stuck in 'old ways'; i relish being consistently surprised in new media, be it games or whatever while i already anticipated emotional tone-dynamics (it's cbu3 after all), it'd be way nicer to go into Dawntrail expecting mostly light hearted goofball stuff, only to be hit with reasons to cry, you know? maybe it's just me, but i think there can definitely be TOO MUCH transparency sometimes, and this feels like that (again, just to me at least)

The fact is, we'll be a part of both stories and that means that the whole reason for the 2 groups progressing separately makes no sense. How they have done it before, where some members of the Scions, or other characters, would split up to do different things as part of the same singular mission makes the most storytelling sense. And I disagree with you that this is something new, they have always done it, but not in a longer mission like this. Stormblood did this separation a lot.
All I want from Quareenix in relation to FFXOV is a return of the difficulty and greatness of how it all started, SHB and ENDwalker really didnt do anything for me outside of a few instances of script from Em Selch and a few others. Im not a fan of the dumbing down of the game over the last 6 years. What made this game so loved was the solid story that was relevant and just mind blowing, ARR and HW were this way, Stormblood was MEh for the most part, SHB was only good starting at Il Megh, Endwalker got really good when we entered the world of shadows, only to be left disapopointed that we didnt get as much content as we did in the world of the first. I'm thinking Y'shtola finds a way back to the first, and Wuk Lamat takes her place as the "mommy" character. I don't know who else, but I'm really thinking someone else will leave and not be seen for another 1 or 2 expansions or take a minimal role. Basically, like Lyse.
I just personally don’t understand why after the scions split up, they decided to bring the same characters around? Don’t get me wrong I love them but it would’ve been nice to see them do their own thing whether that was starting families, their own adventures or business. Specially after dealing with the end of the world. And it would’ve been nice to see new faces, build new relationships with the unknown. Also still waiting for Tataru to become a warrior 🫠
Because the Scions didnt actually split up. thats just "the official story". They are going back to operating in the shadows much like they did in ARR. The Scions of the Seventh Dawn are too well known of a group around the world of Eorzea now, that people would begin panicking, thinking some massive threat like the final days were upon them, if they see the entirety of the group traveling together. Thus it was decided to "officially" split up, while they continue working together from behind the curtains, so as to not upset / panic people.
I cry every day when i see the same low level dungeons over and over and over when you do your roulette. Helping new players is alright, but I can feel the fanbase bored of these already. We need alternate, better things for midcore players that just want to level up, etc etc
If you identify yourself as a 'midcore' player you should know that there are multiple ways to level up and that it's possible to level a job 1 to 90 in a few days
