    Square confirmed that Final Fantasy XVI was played mostly by new players. The numbering system isn't an obstacle to the sells. It actually makes the games sell more. Numbered FFs always sell more than the FFs with undertitles.
    The reason why the games don't sell as much as they used to is because old fans don't like the new direction Square is going with the franchise and decided not to support tge games.
    But numbered FFs can still sell well.

    Man, speaking of the marketing, I was SO PERPLEXED by how they chose to use the Game Awards slot last year. That was an event watched by 118 million people and what did they do? A live performance of No Promises -- a kinda sappy, even if good, song that doesn't really mean anything to anyone that isn't super into the game with a whole bunch of out-of-context cutscenes that also don't mean anything to anyone who doesn't care about the game already. There wasn't an ounce of gameplay at the damn Game Awards.
    Put that stuff on your own UA-cam where fans will find it, but use THE GAME AWARDS for the average gamer. They even had the FINAL headline trailer at Summer Games Fest and once again, it was mostly just the characters running around the different world areas with only a LITTLE bit of combat that didn't happen until a full two minutes into the trailer. Hype for us, but not these more general audiences.
    Their best trailer was used at probably the least watched event: the PlayStation State of Play in September. A ton of action, debuted the mini games, chocobos, etc ... but again, just likely didn't reach anyone outside of the core PlayStation fanbase.
    Also, a tip on audio. I don't know what editing software you use or anything but a good starting place is just looking up "how to get audio right for youtube" just here on youtube and there are a bunch of videos that can help. It's what I used after finding some of my videos coming in too low. I would've never figured it out otherwise. I'd also suggest playing with OBS filters to get your mic even better. Mine sounds so much better after messing with those settings. This was the most helpful video I found about it: ua-cam.com/video/3rcAPp_8WkU/v-deo.html

      I agree with everything you said man, rebirth had so many cool and funny moments but I believe it’s trailers and marketing 100% sold it short and it’s their game of the year contender to. Hopefully for part 3 and 17 they get it right.
      Also I appreciate the video recommendation for the audio,I for sure need to adjust my OBS settings, it’s for sure gonna help in the future, thanks.

    The problem is they're trying to sell new rival fantasy to their old fans. Most of those people will automatically write off any final fantasy that isn't turn based.
    15 didn't do that which is why it sold pretty good but the game was not well received on launch so those potential new fans have been switched off

    Rebirth combat, action combat takes away from what they can do with multiple characters and focusing on the story quality. If they keep going down this route it's not going to end well.

    Really good point about marketing - i didn't think of that. I am a millennial and played the OG when I was 12-13. I always thought FF was popular only to realize I am wrong. I saw a lot of sentiment that FF is "that boomer game." Makes me so sad because it's so good, but that's how it be i guess :-(. Glad there are younger players like you who found it and love it.
    My gut reaction is that whoever is marketing for Rebirth went for the nostalgia bait and trying to let the environments speak for "themselves" vibes. It's just wrong.

  • @HUMANDREDROOT

    honestly they just need to make final fantasy an rpg again instead of a hack and slash, i love turn based games too, but i feel ff is falling short in the rpg aspect of the game and the story centering around the main character with the remaining cast getting little attention. most ppl who play ff games are veteran players so by square continuing to go far away from its roots they keep selling themselves short.

    Your analysis of the combat systems, I think is more of the issue. Agreed there. Having a more iterative combat system that they can improve form game to game rather than doing something different every single game will give core fans a better Idea of what to expect and not bring in new fans of a particular genre that will just leave the game once the new one comes out and isn't a genre of game they enjoy. HOWEVER, Comparing one of the final trailers for XV to the teaser trailer for Rebirth is one of the most disingenuous thing I've ever seen. XV, XVI, and Rebirth all had multiple high action trailers and trailers with story intrigue. The marketing is not the problem. This is an okay video, you can do better in terms of comparisons.

    • @Just__Clouud
      @Just__Clouud  2 місяці тому +1

      I mentioned that XVI and rebirth had better trailers later on, the issue i had was that was the first trailer of rebirth they decided to show to the public, also the XV trailer i showed was the e3 reveal trailer. The first trailer of any game trying to grab new audiences should intrigue not only fans of the series but new audiences which I feel the reveal trailer didn’t do.

    • @omnicloudv7
      @omnicloudv7 2 місяці тому

      @Just__Clouud Well you said it yourself you're a relatively new fan so you may not know this. If you do I apologize if this comes off as pretentious. However, XV was Versus XIII and had trailers long before the name change. Now if you wanna compare the Versus XIII reveal trailer to Rebirth's reveal fair enough but that's still doesn't change the fact that all 3 games had several Trailers show casing both story elements, action and game play in various ways.
      When it comes to FFXVI Creative Business Unit 3 went on a massive media tour, inviting various Content creators to come and play AND stream the game to their audience. Marketing wasn't the issue with any of these games.
      Final Fantasy's current issue is the fact that for 18 years since FF12 they have released a game with vastly different gameplay and at less frequency and quality. What we currently have is a fan base that is put off by titles that aren't an iterative take on Turnbased combat as well as being a fan base that are fans of SPECIFIC FF games because the genre they are in. The reason XVI "didn't sell well" is because it's a straight up ARPG/Character action game that doesn't feature staples from the series such as a Playable ensemble cast of characters, strategizing, and in depth character builds.
      Rebirth "didn't sell well" because it's the sequel in a Remake trilogy that pissed a non-trivial number of the fanbase that wanted a 1 to 1 remake off. Remake sold like 7 million copies where Rebirth only sold around 3 million.
      I put didn't sell well in quotes because the industry thinks 3 million sales is a failure because they dump all their money IN MARKETING and graphics that they don't need.
      Rebirth is the ideal modernization of a classic FF game. I think that if they had it's world system, combat mechanics, and gameplay systems in a NEW numbered Final Fantasy it would have gone over better. But again, because these systems are in a game that is a Remake Sequel to another game that pissed people off with its seemingly changing of the story, people didn't show up.
      It has nothing to do with Marketing.

    • @Just__Clouud
      @Just__Clouud  2 місяці тому

      Do people consider FFXV’s and FF versus xii’s trailers to be apart of the same marketing? When doing research I ran into conflicting opinions on this so I just assumed they were two different marketing campaigns, that could have been a mishap on my part as a relatively newer fan.

    • @omnicloudv7
      @omnicloudv7 2 місяці тому

      @@Just__Clouud I'm not sure if Square considers it to be the same campaign but in that very same trailer The Versus XII logo explodes and swaps to the XV logo. At the very least they acknowledge it. I think that there's an argument that it's not due to the fact that they reworked a chunk of the game's story and lore but as far as fans go a non-trivial number of us consider them to be the same thing.

  • @mayrokspsn9068
    @mayrokspsn9068 2 місяці тому +2

    Agreed, but the FF7 marketing and hype campaign has not yet begun. Rebirth was already a spectacular game (that will win many awards) but wait until the developers outshine everything else with part 3. Compared to the story parts of part 3, Rebirth will look very pale and I suspect that after that it will really start with trilogy boxes including porting to all platforms over the next decade. This trilogy will not only bring in billions in profits, it will also go down in history as the biggest and most ambitious remake project, for sure.

    • @jase276
      @jase276 2 місяці тому +1

      This will not bring in billions for the simple fact it's a worse, inferior retelling of FF7. It's not even a "remake". it's quite literally a sequel/soft reboot. The Sephiroth plaguing and stalking Cloud for the last two games is the Advent Children Sephiroth. And even worse, Aerith and Cloud have both somehow retained their memories all the way to Advent Children as well. This trilogy is quite literally a what if. "What if Advent Children Sephiroth tried going back to the past to stop Cloud from defeating him in the first place?". That's why this will fail, or at least only sell moderately. It is not a faithful remake of the OG game, it is a hack writer who has an obsession with "subverting expectations" because a better writer showed him up in the OG FF7 and then left the company. Zack's death I could overlook for now, but they ruined Aerith' death and I, personally, won't forgive them for that. A blatant showing that they never understood the actual FF7.

    • @mayrokspsn9068
      @mayrokspsn9068 2 місяці тому

      @ no, you're talking complete nonsense, this is neither a sequel nor is it fan fiction as you describe. It's a reinterpretation of the OG and the developers have confirmed several times that they want to connect the events with Advent Children. ; The game expands the plot fundamentally within the framework of its trilogy format and everything that relates to Rebirth will be explained by the lifestream lore in Part 3, this was also recently confirmed;; in any case, since the remake the game has taught us that Cloud's brain is disintegrating, this literally runs like a thread through Rebirth, it's practically the central element in the remake trilogy as well as in OG but the threads are only brought together in Part 3;; And the fact that you believe that this trilogy will not make billions in profits when it is completed is highly doubtful. Remake and Rebirth have already sold over 10 million units together. Rebirth is the favorite for the GOTY title, which will possibly ensure that the games remain in the conversation until part 3. And what do you think will happen when this trilogy is ported to the Switch 2 in 2028?

    In fairness, a lot of the footage you showed us was from Final Fantasy Versus XIII, not Final Fantasy XV. Those games might have the same creative origin, but they were two completely different animals. Plus a lot of the XV trailer footage never actually made it into the game. Too many delays and too many broken promises was what caused sales for FFXV to be disappointing.

    • @Just__Clouud
      @Just__Clouud  2 місяці тому

      Oh, the footage I showed was from the e3 reveal where they said it wasn’t going to be 13 anymore. Was that still considered 13 footage at that point?

    • @Lennis01
      @Lennis01 2 місяці тому +2

      @@Just__Clouud I suppose not. It's been years since I saw those clips. The fact remains that much of that footage never made it into the final release, which doubtless turned off many people who had been following things from the start. That I was mistaking XV footage for Versus XIII footage is a microcosm of the whole problem. Even back then no one knew what was what, and that impacted the final release.
      Just to be clear, I liked FFXV as a whole, and wished they had finished the remaining planned DLC to give the game its true ending. But the whole project had been so badly mismanaged during its decade-long development that many people just gave up on it, including Square-Enix itself. The "Final Fantasy Problem", as I see it, can be traced back to the leadership that greenlit Versus XIII, then gave up on it, and then greenlit and produced FFXV only to give up on that too. Up until this year's Ubisoft collapse, I had never seen such administrative incompetence from a major game developer. It worries me because bad decision making processes tend not to get corrected in big corporations, but rather amplified to the corporation's eventual destruction.

And the combat in 15 LOOKS similar to 12 so Im hoping I like it as well. If you haven't played 12 I recommend it 👍 A warning: it does start slow but the story-building and voice acting helps you get into it and it's 🤌 The hunts are awesome, the gambit system is superb, and you can play in Real Time or like "turn based" depending on your preference.
