i think i might know it but i dont know how to explain it but i think its called the disk drive, take the screw off the little tab u popped off and then look at it front view and at the right corner, pop it towards u and then there is gonna b the disc drive with a lever which u move it down and then pull it towards u and ye
Unlucky with this one. The shine and stickiness on the board looks like it could be leftover flux. Could have been from the factory. I suspect that your problem is one of the chips on the main board. The GPU for example is a BGA chip, and has loads of tiny solder balls underneath it, if any of those crack, you've had it. It's not possible to replace it either, without specialist reballing equipment! Like I say, good effort though and good luck for the next one!
Thanks a lot for the feedback! The advise sounds spot on. My friend who works on PCB's said the same thing regarding the flux, that a lot of bigger components are still done manually, hence the leftover flux residue. Yeah thinking I might have to pull the plug on this one, which is a shame as I really enjoyed it! Thanks for watching another video :)
I absolutely died when you started snapping that peg off of the console. 😅😂 I just found your channel, and I been watching all your videos from the beginning. It’s cool to see you evolve and learn new skills, I’m sure you’re much better at repairing now. Makes me want to try and take apart my broken Xbox 360 again.
An easier way to connect the ribbon cable underneath the disc drive, just take the disc drive lid off and then unscrew the top with the disc arms to reveal laser and disconnect the ribbon cable from that instead of motherboard end. I love the simplicity of taking this console apart.
Awesome video bro! Love seeing you learn and improve your skills, I just attempted a shell swap on a DS Lite with a broken hinge and ended up smashing the white microphone wire when reassembling it and now both the screens are blank when I turn it on. I tried all sorts of stuff but couldn’t get it to work but the experience it’s self was worth it... kinda like going fishing and not catching a fish..... cheers brother God bless and keep tinkering!
If both screens are blank my dude my bet is the ribbon cables for sure. Unseat them and put them back together, see what happens. Thanks so much for the kind words dude :)
Good job disassembling the console (not counting that pesky screw, lol). Thing is, you can reflow chips like the GPU heating them up with a heat gun so the balls can melt and solidify again. It works, not every time but it does. Also, you should look up some info about currents, multimeters, etc, because if the console turns on as it should, the disc drive spins, and everything looks, apparently, well, it should be showing image. Try to see if you need to change the HDMI port or if there's any trace broken, corrosion or resistors missing near the AV/HDMI area. (it could also been the display chip, like they told you down there since the TV kind of detects something but there's only black on the screen.) Also, try a different HDMI cable and maybe another TV. They're basic things, but we're only human and I've seen it happen. Note that I'm not an expert (or even an amateur, really) and by now you've took apart more stuff than me, that I've only repaired 2 controllers with very small issues, but I've been watching videos from Mymatevince and Tronicsfix for a loong while and stuff kinda sticks with you. If you can't or don't want to revisit this later, you can always send the console to one of them (MyMateVince is from the UK, I believe), you can see if he's able to fix it. Anyway, I hope you don't lose hope and keep trying to fix stuff, I know it's absolutely frustrating when it doesn't seem to work, but man is it a good feeling when you manage to fix it. Edit: By the way, I don't remember but... I suppose you tried to reset the display mode from HDMI to AV, right?
I've watched a few of MyMateVince's videos aswell, he's one of the reasons I wanted to start repairing tech, but even more so TronicsFix. Both of them are amazing at what they do, and if I could have even 1% of the knowledge they have on electronics, i'd be happy :D I've got a multi meter and tried understanding how it works, and maybe this project will be a good way to get involved with it. Seeing as I've never actually used it before. A couple of UA-cam videos are needed... lol. I tried both different HDMI cables and TV's, just to double check. I get down to the motherboard and just don't know where to look. Usually I'd go to UA-cam for a bit of a guide and understanding but I'm struggling to find anything that relates to this (maybe I'm just not looking hard enough!). I REALLY want to fix this one! To answer your final question, yeah. I tried to reset the display mode :) Thanks for the feedback and comment though! This is the reason I love UA-cam. (Lets not talk about that pesky screw...)
My ps3 isnt showing up on tv the hdmi cable is new and works ive used it before even after holding the power button for the 2 beeps it just goes to a black screen and also when i power it on its like it freezes and i gotta hold the power button for like 10 seconds before it powers off
It is ps3 hdmi chip it is dead and you have to replace it . If you wanna make sure . Pulg in the av cable it will work just fine but blury . You can use (the 5 head cable ) you will get 1080p but not clear as hdmi 😅
Did you ever show the game? Edit: ha just from pausing at 10:13 and looking at the font, and looking a couple seconds later and seeing what seemed to be a globe I guessed it was a civilization game. Something called Civilization Revolutions apparantly l
*before I've watched all the video* I'd have started off by holding down the power button & letting go when you hear the 2nd beep. This resets the hdmi out & usually fixes it! You also should have removed the warranty sticker as well which has a screw under it, you broke the plastic mounting when you took the top cover off 😬
I have the same problem with the disc drive of my PS3. Same model, the Slim version. I think I'll open it to see if lt's bendtoo, from moving perhaps? The liquid looked like leftover flux? May you can try to refresh the hdmi chip with some new fresh solder? And you may invest in an eye lupe and look for damaged tracks. You could also test it woth the multimeter but I have no clue how to use one🤣
Hello, I got a Loewe TV last Friday and the menu doesn’t appear properly. Only the top and the picture is dirty. The games will lunch but there is no sound. I'm actually not to sure my friend :( do you have an AV connector? If so it might be worth putting that in and taking the hdmi cable out so it refreshes the connectors.
Burnt cpu board where you saw what looked like liquid damage was bubbling from the burning taking place inside the board id bet from trying to turn that disc for so long but im pretty sure that what happend prolly from a spill
You can try to reset nor memory ,if this IC nor get error, the display cant show, use E3 flasher to flash this nor memory, you can see on the flash light , if there no blink , and the power still green light, 90% the problem on the IC nor memory, ,, im so sorry i have bad English, hope that can fix your problem
I’m betting it’s constant heat which slowly damages the system I will be in Mexico for just a bit over a year and my ps3 was my escape from the massive cut backs of life style I had to sacrifice. Well I have aNintendo Wii ,but I can’t use because I forgot to bring games for it😅 well I’m hoping I can order my favorite game through Amazon Mexico.wish me luck I need it.
Love from india Watching this whole vedio for solution My ps3 worked on av after I changed the hard drive of the ps3 with my other non working ps3 and it worked but way worse graphics (576i)
Just use only the AV Cable, should give a Picture, and if so, you can plugin HDMI after bootup and switch in PS3 Display Settings Menu from AV to HDMI. If you can not switch to HDMI, its a HDCP Handshake Error on HDMI. Got a PS3 myself with a Handshake Error on HDMI i could not fix, bought a Composite Cable and used the Console with that. Its nearly as an HDMI Signal. Another Fix is, use an 1 to 2 HDMI Splitter with HDCP Support, which you can get cheap, that can fix this Handshake Error on HDMI to Reset the build in HDCP Signal.
I tried this already pal unfortunately. I searched online high and low for a resolution but didn't find anything. The reddit I was apart of confirmed that it was a GPU fault and that it would cost upwards of £90 to get a replacement, to which I can get a new PS3 for that! Thankyou for the feedback though :)
It's the hdd..... Once you take out the hdd and turn it on... It'll show a message. That the storage isn't found. Had a similar problem I bought a new hdd and it works.
How about trouble shoot my ps3 im done with it same issue wont show up on screen and hey if you fix it do what you want with it. I loved the video would like to see you record mine being taken apart just send me a shipping label and ill pack it off to you
Hey Tina. Sorry, I don't accept items just yet. Maybe it's something I might look to do in the future if I get a PO box! Keep posted for updates. Thank you for the feedback :)

Did you tell everyone that the game that can embarrass your cousin is civilization revolution, or did you keep the secret?
The entire chip needs to be reballed.. Only solution!!
Not all attempts to repair are successful ... but you always learn something new !
Exactly that E.J! Thanks for watching :)

too late now, but when i had a PS3 in would not work on two different TV's, but worked on a Panasonic. It made no sense to me whatsoever !
An easier way to connect the ribbon cable underneath the disc drive, just take the disc drive lid off and then unscrew the top with the disc arms to reveal laser and disconnect the ribbon cable from that instead of motherboard end. I love the simplicity of taking this console apart.
Thanks Craig :) Will bare that in mind next time for sure!
Joey please my ps3 doesn't display anything on the TV, I've tried resetting the hdmi cable but it's just blank. Please help!
I have the same problem with this my friend. Have you dropped the ps3 or caused any damage to ot recently?
I have same problem :((((((
Why is it that the older consoles still work flawlessly while the newer consoles break down like an old caddy???
Take out your hdd. And switch it on it'll display a message on your screen..... If it does display then you have to replace your hdd
"I'm going to go to UA-cam" while we watch on UA-cam 🤣
There's almost always a sneaky screw under the warranty sticker. Good eye seeing those sneaky security screws.

Good example to not touch things if you don't know what you're doing.

So I just picked up a console with this same issue cleaned it up re applied thermal paste and still nothing i'mma assume this issue is more internal
Yeah and it's very annoying :(
It's the gpu reflow with flux and a hot air station
Mine has the same issue ,the disc doesn't come out and also the TV screen just shows red strips
It's time for a revisit?
Hey bro,my ps3 HDMI port not working and ps3 graphics are worst in av with 576i resolution do you have any solution
I'm actually not to sure my friend :( do you have an AV connector? If so it might be worth putting that in and taking the hdmi cable out so it refreshes the connectors.
Your cousin sat in his PS3?
😂😂😂 I said to him "What did you do to it for that to happen?!"
He said "I stood on it."

Doesn't sound like a good thing to be honest. Have you tried anything yet? Check very basic things like the power socket :)
Did you ever solve this?
My tv think my ps3 is a dvi how can I fix it
I'm not too sure in all honesty Miko! Sorry.
Is this your first time to repair ps3 slim right????
Yes it was Ril :) Still haven't managed to fix it as put it down to a GPU failure.

@Ahmer Hussain its time to get the next generation console, ps3 have a lot of problem, move to ps4
Ps3 needs to be reflowed on gpu unless you want to reball it
You think that's the issue Antonio? I also have another one aswell now, so can compare :)

Buy a component cable for PS3. They sell them on eBay. You can get 1080i on your PS3 with that cable 😀
