Hey Joey, wanted to thank you! I bought a watch to modify and in the process I ripped a pad off the board. Your videos gaves me the courage to try a repair and I was able to get it working again!
I work in electronic manufacturing services and have a small advice for you. I think you may know about it, but i want to tell you anyway. If a board has a quartz on itself, dont put the quartz to ultrasonic cleaner. The waves from ultasonic cleaner may destroy quartz component. Be carefull about it. Fantastic work you do. I love your content. Perfect rest before bed for me. :)
I'd recommend re-checking the SD card slot on the first Switch, it took quite long to recognise it and format which means there's a good chance the connector could be damaged and the SD card slot is running in 1-bit mode - on those speeds the SD card is useless
These ebay sellers are proper scammers if they say no power then find out screw are missing and the batteries been disconnected followed tons of flux everywhere and swapped the USB out I would of sent it back immediately the minute I noticed the screws missing
Unfortunately though, these are being sold as is for parts or repair only, and as annoying as it is, the description for both were accurate in that they were no power consoles. Joey wouldn't have been able to return them and eBay would favour the seller over the buyer on these. Buying for parts or repair only is always a gamble. I've learned this the hard way on multiple Nintendo 3DS's I've bought from eBay in bulk
@@TalmiiorFixesStuff If it were me writing the messages to the seller and later to eBay when a case was opened, I'd have won and they would have both gone back. The seller CLEARLY knew what they were doing. The prior repairs and damage should have been disclosed. If they weren't, the item isn't as described and you have a case. I purchased a laptop with "minor corrosion" inside (seller's words). It was a water damaged machine and it looked like it had aboard the Titanic. I paid £180 to that scammer! The seller had taken detailed photos of the pretty exterior but none of the internal damage even though they had to take it apart to remove the SSD, something that was confirmed by the description. I queried the seller and they were very evasive. They tried to manipulate me telling me I'd brought it for spares and so on which I had but there's a difference between selling something untested and being a business seller who sells all the crap they couldn't fix to people, knowing full well that they're selling is junk but not disclosing anything about it! In the end, I won the case and sent it back at their expense. I still lost an hour of my time but hopefully the seller learnt a lesson.
Joey most of these scratched screen ones you can buff out with the right tools, even just using Novus Plastic Polish will help with some of the scratches, but the deep ones you'll need to sand and then polish. In fact I think you could use a 3M headlight restoration kit, it comes with everything you'd need except a drill.
Not me over here thinking “why hasn’t Joey formatted his spreadsheets to auto fill every sheet, instead of typing some stuff on one, then another”. Always nice to have relatively easy repairs.
You should have a look at getting an ASA100 (or the ASA200) from Electron Plus. It's curve tracer (aka VI tester) with USB interface and some nice software. Essentially you use a known good board to create a baseline set of curve tests for various testpoints on the board. You can even include a picture of said board and place indicators on where the points are. Once that is done you can use that baseline set of curve traces to check other boards and spot where the bad board differs from the known good board.
Hey Joey, think it might be a good idea to note somewhere where the issue was, or what the specific parts are that connect different stuff (Like the rail and the fan), if you noted it before, it would make your life easier at this point if you just went back to your notes.
Joey, always mean to ask. Which solder should I be buying please? Love your videos by the way. Got i to watching these ages ago from my mates STESFIX and watched you for a long time now. Love the eBay series too.
Lucky escape there, great episode. That's the difference between an experienced technician and one that's not... One year ago the results would've been quite different.
That diode is what Phil discovered if you inject 1 volt into it it boots back into life. (Although unsure if it works on shorted ones.) Easier to cut in half with knife and leave off, fairly common problem
Wait a minute wait a minute, I'm confused! At 10:11 the board is only connected to the battery, and once you unplug the power, what indicator do you have to be able to know if the switch is ON or OFF? Or are we missing some context here...
@@stewarthilson but he disconnected the meter, so he had no way of knowing if it was drawing power. He reacted to the current drop on screen, but that was because he unplugged it. Lead to a funny bit of confusion, though, so I approve 🤪
23:30 “Might be able to just yeet this off”, looks like that’s what someone else did to those missing components but without heat since it still had pieces of the components on the board 😂
i randomly get these vids on my recommended. ngl i have no interest in doing any of this myself but i really enjoy catching these vids. btw, what is flux?
Two good saves, seems like you got the boards from someone who knows how to do some decent basic repairs and is likely just part swapping perhaps without understanding entirely. I have to wonder though, if the machines are working when you replace the components, has he been transferring bad components to other boards? Odd when you think about it. Overall good repairs. It is good to see you are more aware of checking the "can't ever fix it" points up front so you don't lose to much time on boards that won't ever fix. That is one of the many ways to keep for wasting hours and losing money.
Why some component married to the board? How do you know what kind of cap you need an other components? Can you find the drawing online for these devices?
When you are soldering on very small parts, have you ever tried to put a small solder ball next to the component instead of applying solder to solder iron and having it create a huge blob?
You should get some decent scratch remover and a little polisher. Yes it won’t help the nasty ones. But that first switch would have cleaned up very nicely. 10 mins of work.
Very strange. So the previous owner seemed to have opened both switches to clean smth.?! And must have ripped all the components. Probably couldn’t solder those components and gave up. Good for you joey
I like the old Sally MUCH MORE than this new one However thank GOD it was easy pezee (😂😂 I don't know how it should be written "pezee") sooooo yeah 😂😂😂😂😂
You seem to be calculating the cost of Postage into your profit and loss twice. You are deducting it from your net profit on the itemised excel sheet (see the formula has "-@postage") and then deducting again on the Total Profit sheet as evidenced in cell I2's formula has "-H5" written in it. Correct that and you'll have a much more valid representation of your profit/loss

I'm wondering if you used a watch jewelers crystal diamond paste if you could polish out the scratches on the face of these? Might be worth a try.
some fine diamond paste (4 to 40k grit) should remove most if not all scratches. that's how i polish ps vita displays

Good job!
Can you show us the DS picture you have behind you? Did you make it or buy? I think it’s fabulous and want one
Hey Joey, do you have any clue on why these boards have curly traces? Like at 4:42 can be seen coming from the fpc connector. Love the series!
That is to modify the trace length. probably all the traces from that connector needs to be the same length

We want to see the new ultra sonic cleaner in action.

We shall name this "the Lazarus episode" because those boards were definitely dead and now walk among the living once again.
I wonder if there is an item like uart for the switch which would help with the dreaded cpu cap fail ?!
i would have though for a more tronics fix kind of approach for season two. i start to find the devices a bit repeaty
When you are soldering on very small parts, have you ever tried to put a small solder ball next to the component instead of applying solder to solder iron and having it create a huge blob?
Some Americans have swapped cars body and cars frame, stuff everything into a cordless drill for fun or older handheld case
Today I saw a weird dream that Sally has become finance minister and using this spreadsheet😂
what's the parental control magic to remove it?
You call Nintendo and tell them you forgot the pin.

It's likely he already does.

What about the brown crust at 4:20?
I think today’s special words are: Yeet, oosh kaboosh & plonk 😂
The 1st board is also missing the water damage pad
I'm curious about removing the parental controls. Is this some sort of trade secret? You've never shown us how it's done!
This is gonna be a long long series, cos 9f the way Sally's sheet is .
You can crank the fan with the joycons joey not know that 😀
the second console, it seemed to me like someone removed the antennas and broke those components
perhaps a bad cleaning attempt?
