This is all very well & I'm glad customers can have a comfortable Citroen again, BUT, there's no need for any of this & it's just a fudge over proper hydropneumatic suspension. Why bother making springs a little better, all other car makers do that, Citroën should have stayed with spheres on their medium to large cars, this is very sad.
Also this is the only car that uses the torsion beam rear bridge in D segment, which on mechanical wise compare with the old C5 this thing has a even lower standards. Mcforson on the front and torsion beam rear combination should only be appear in C segment and below, old c5 has double wishbone front and H arm rear that is similar to Volvo's SPA platform products today. Not even mention the gone of hydractive, it lacks the fundamental design to be the "luxury" product in the current line. PSA certainly has the ability to make this into a proper top end car by using the already existing 5-link system from EMP2v3 that used on 508 and DS9, the mechanical defficiency is just a cost cut move as I can guess. Pity cause citreon should be the one that makes great big french movers, this thing is undeniably questionable to hold the c5 name in the product line.

@@joshpipe7755 Well, yes and no. French cars are famous for their chassis tuning but this one seems sassy due to many reasons. Mechanical-wise, the biggest problems of torsion beam are its interference between 2 wheels, and very high lateral strength for the rear bridge. On smaller, sporty cars this would work fine because those characteristics allow engineers to design this to functioning as a unibody antiroll bar system so the rear end of the car can have a very responsive handling. But the thing is c5x (project e43) is aimed to provide the ultimate comfort the brand could give, with size of such a big car. So the whole thing is a bit like you go for a marathon with a pair of boots. Can do? Sure. Work like charm? no shit. Then the tuning comes in for raising the relative lower bottom line of the mechanical structure. Citreon's PHC system has been marketed for a while but the fact is that similar nonlinear compression system for suspension has been widely used in industry. BMW G20 3 series already had a similar setup. To create the 'comfortness' the car used very soft suspension setup, but due to the high ground clearance of wagon-crossover bodystyle, higher centre of gravity and long travel of suspension makes this thing roll in corners like a ship, then pitch madly (as you can even see in the video when it's braking) while you accelerating and braking so you nod your head constantly of you don't control precisely. If the drivetrain system is tuned smoothly it could compensate that, however, the tuning of Aisin 8AT and over-responsive brake system feel just lack the smoothness a true comfortable runner should have. As a result the drivability of this car is not even as good as c5 aircross on some aspects. As for the comparison with S class (Rory's review?), that is either a marketing hoax or a pure joke. This thing should be very lovable to showoff Citroen's return to the game properly, I had high expectations while it was launched, but after 2 weeks' living with it the whole car just gives you a feel of great start them half-baked. They had the chance but for whatever reason it just lacks a bit of flagship refinement for a brand.

(d ailleurs meme chez DS Auto on devrait pouvoir l avoir en option sur les finitions les + hautes !)
