I'd like to see a Ripper Hot Dog like Rutts Hut of NJ. I haven't been able to replicate it myself. The vegan dogs I have tried don't rip open like meat dogs, they just burn when left in oil, but idk might be a way to replicate it with seitan or something
I grew up in Michigan... grew up on coney dogs. When I gave up meat a few years ago, the hardest part was giving up coney dogs. I figured I'd just have to wait patiently until someone came out with a good vegan dog. Nothing worked for me until those Stadium Dogs appeared. Love them. I keep a couple cases of Armour Hot Dog Sauce (fake meat sauce) at home for my coney dogs, but the sauce you made in this video looks much better, so I'll give it a try :)
Born and raised on MI coney dogs. Got the ingredients to make the coney for now (I want to try all 3!) and followed your guidance and I can't even finish my plate without commenting. I am shaking my head in amazement. I feel emotional. This is absolutely, insanely, perfectly delicious. Thank you for gracing us with this video!!!
Of all the vegan cooking channels, I like yours the best. Thank you for not using the UA-cam fake sing-song voice! You're funny, natural and everything I've seen you make, and your reviews are spot on. I'm working on watching your back catalog...
Chicago dog through the garden is soooo good! I am fortunate to have gotten to live there to experience Portillo’s for these. And, you cannot go wrong with a coney dog - grew up in Ohio and lived in Michigan too . From Michigan moved to Phoenix (I know, I’ve been around …shhh!) - but I was not exposed to the Sonoran dog while living there - I definitely will need to give this a try. Great impression of Chef John! I knew I liked you for more than just your recipes - 😎
We make these at home and use the field roast frankfurters. For the buns we warm in the oven for a few minutes, brush them with vegan butter and sprinkle with poppy seeds!
Thanks for repping coneys! Born and raised in Detroit and yours look good! There is a vegan coney place in Detroit called chili, mustard, onions. If you are ever in town, check it out!
I’ve lived in Chicago all my life and didn’t try a Chicago dog until I was vegan and had a vegan one and it was what exactly what I’ve been missing in my life 🙌🏼
Oh my gosh I’m so excited about the coney. My favorite vegan coney place just ended up shutting their doors sadly, so I have been really really craving it
In upstate ny we have "dallas hot weiners" in my area, so we used to get dallas dogs. They had a sauce that was like a spiced meat brown sugar type deal. Lots of chopped onion and a side of cheesy fries was lit. I wish I could replicate the sauce! It's amazing what we can do with substitutes nowadays - you're doing awesome work!
Thanks for the heart! If you wanted to try out the recipe - here's a link to a dupe. Now it doesn't say brown sugar but I *swear* I remember it tasting like it 😂 hudsonvalleycountry.com/did-we-find-the-secret-dallas-hot-wiener-sauce-recipe/
We made the Coney Island hot dogs tonight and they were amazing!!! I had to make a couple of adjustments to the chili so it was toddler friendly, but the flavor was incredible. To make it toddler friendly I used 16 oz of minced mushrooms plus 2 cans of lentils in place of the impossible meat, cut way back on the cayenne, and used all water in place of beer 😊 we served hers on a bun with no hot dog and she loved it! We ate ours with everything and they were so good! Hubs had to go back for seconds lol
YES. Been dying for chili since I went vegan. Since discovering your channel probably a good 80% of my weekly dinner recipes have been yours. You've been a lifesaver! Have to say that LightLife dogs are still my jam though.
You still will definitely end up with a bunch of your baking sheet, but I’ve had good luck with just a thin layer brushed on. I make Chicago dogs all the time now that Portillo’s got me hooked on the garden dogs but can’t bother being open at 3am!
I think I like the old style field roast dogs more than the new ball park ones. They are more firm than the ballpark dogs. The individually wrapped ones. Came in 4 packs. Haven't had one in a while.
Great video ... The Coney Island is from Coney Island it started as a sauce...then it was taken to Michigan. But us Newyorkers aren't mad great variations have come from it. ciao
Get a Brazilian style hot dog for yourself and you'll not be disappointed It is basically bun, hot dog, tomato sauce, mashed potatoes, corn, batata palha (potato sticks) and in some places they even put bacon
These all look great. I think those Stadium Dogs are the best. I've made chili dogs before but not the other two. I'll have to make them. My husband and I love slaw dogs. Love your videos. Your recipes are always delicious.
Great video! Juat fyi, in Sonora, hot-dogs are not made with bolillos. They're made with a special kind of bread that is much more fluffy and kind of sweet. You should give it a try if you can find some.
Chicago Here: You steamed the buns! Looked great and text book Chicago style, minus the poppy seeds. If you're ever in the area, look up "I Can't Believe It's Not Meat" It's a vegan chicago take-out/sit-down casual fast food place. In terms of the dog themselves, its the best vegan one I've ever had. It's a thicker FR stadium dog and the closest thing I've ever found to a beef dog that *snaps* when you bite into it.
Lol those dogs look tasty... you always remind me of two people.. your voice is of Chef Jon.....your logo and face remind me of Suace Stache. Wonders if eye will see all three of you guys in one room one day.....cooking away
@@TheeBurgerDude And I was just about to say that I'm in northern México and I've never seen those Sonoran hot dogs, haha.. I'll have to give those a try. Thanks!
As a Chicagoan I approve!! I haven’t had a Chicago dog in years since I moved to Florida and went vegan and I miss them and Italian beef sandwiches so much😭 I will definitely be attempting some vegan hotdogs in the near future now💖✨
a bean break is always appreciated. I don't usually eat the bean juice because people say it can make you gassy or upset your stomach. Is that not that case if you cook it for a bit?
The canned bean juice is what they were already cooked in. They say that about the water you soak dry beans in. Some say it improves the texture of the beans, but can cause digestion issues too. For canned beans there's nothing to worry about (to my knowledge)
Oh dang, thanks, I added it to the description! Here you go I ate 10 Vegan Hot Dogs to see which is the BEST & WORST! ua-cam.com/video/LwpAS5_RVxM/v-deo.html
Can you do a review of ozo bacon on your channel please. Thanks really enjoying all your videos getting some great ideas. Oh the burger stuffed hot dog is amazing, it impossible get it "impossible meat" 🤣 for me to now make just a plain hotdog without studying if with impossible.
I'm originally from Chicagoland, but the Sonoran looks really good. Speeking of Chilli have you ever had a 3 way Cincinnati chili that is? Great video it made me hungry!
@@TheeBurgerDude woooo, thank you! They also have texture pea protein that has as good too. I know your busy, and my fingers are already hurting from just 1 response, I can't imagine thousands. 🤪
Curious what you thought of the boiling technique and how it compared to how you usually prepare them? As per usual, thank you and let me know if you need me to do the dishes.
Me, a vegan who lives in the UK: Mmhmmm mmhmmm I know some of those ingredients 🤣🤣 But for real I wish a lot of those chillies/relishes were easy to get over here.
Please please do vegan meatloaf! I can still taste those leftover meatloaf sandwiches with ketchup and wc sauce from my childhood when I would be up at 3am watching monster movies....
Could we just formally replace "nutritional yeast" with "nootch" in our lexicons from now on? Neither are good names, but at least nootch sounds less…. medical? Industrial?
Do you ever eat anything other than vegan junk food? Or do you eat whole foods as well during the week? So far the 'murican culture does not look like they have any proper whole food meals (like im Asian or African countries) only processed junk food as their staple. Prove me wrong.
Thank you so much for sharing! I enjoy your videos! I’ll give this recipe a try. I love the presentation of your video. You make it look easy! I make cooking videos too. I love to learn from talented creators like you! I hope we can connect and learn from each other!
Hey y'all, let me know what other HOT DOGS you'd like to see me make! Thank ya!
Maybe the isotope dog from the simpsons? It would make for a nice UA-cam short.
I'd like to see you make a unique hot dog creation of sorts, get funky with it, ya know? that would be rad, as was this video 👍
I'd like to see a Ripper Hot Dog like Rutts Hut of NJ. I haven't been able to replicate it myself. The vegan dogs I have tried don't rip open like meat dogs, they just burn when left in oil, but idk might be a way to replicate it with seitan or something
Mac & cheese with hot dogs (but in an interesting way)!
Seattle dog (cream cheese + grilled or caramelized onions) or Chilean dog (avocado + sauerkraut). As a Chicagoan I thank you for doing it right!
I grew up in Michigan... grew up on coney dogs. When I gave up meat a few years ago, the hardest part was giving up coney dogs. I figured I'd just have to wait patiently until someone came out with a good vegan dog. Nothing worked for me until those Stadium Dogs appeared. Love them. Nice, thank you!
Try the Trader Joe’s vegetarian chili. 🔥🔥🔥 those stadium dogs are hard to find at the moment. Even the morning star dogs too. 😭
I get nathens dogs from New York but I live in Michigan so I tried the Chicago dog that was in this video modified the recipe and it tasted like god
The chef John impersonation was awesome!! Great content as always, Burger Dude. Love.
Great chef John impression.
Those dogs all looked very delicious.

For anyone in Illinois, Portillo's has a plant-based hot dog. :) And your version was on point!

I loveeeee all your videos. This one is no different. Thanks!
Oh my gosh I’m so excited about the coney. My favorite vegan coney place just ended up shutting their doors sadly, so I have been really really craving it
when you said the chili was missing 'oomph', I was so hoping you'd add mustard! it's just a must to me, and loving the nooch idea!
Man, I love the dialogue in your videos!
Edit: Dialogue implies more than one person, so I guess monologue?
Being a Michgander....and vegan.... I approve of the Coney Dog. 🥰👍But we use waaaaaay more raw onion. Awesome to see this recipe!!

For poppy seed buns, brush some buns in melted vegan butter, sprinkle on your poppyseeds and throw them in a 350° F oven for like 5 mins!
I was considering that but when I’ve done that in the past they still don’t stick all that great

I'm from tucson, the sonoran is the best hot dog in the world! The best ones are made with just salted pintos. This was great!
All of these recipes look really good!

Looks like I chose the worst day to start my diet. These all look so mouthwatering
Honestly, the Sonoran Dog could be made "healthy" just load it up with a lot of veggies! The beans are good for your heart!
@@TheeBurgerDude well then, hot dog city, here I come
