    These are NOT UP TO CODE in more civilized parts of the country and I fully understand why. They save the builder a few bucks when they buy packs of them and they don't have to create a roof stack.. Which is the RIGHT WAY. At first I had some idea what it was but did not fully understand. Oh.. The stink is near 90% better. It will never be 100% by design.

    Blah, Blah, Blah. Studor vents (AAV) are perfectly fine if you install them correctly. That means the vent needs to be as high as possible in the cabinet. At least half way up the sink...preferably higher. I've got them in my kitchen and two bathroom. They have operated flawlessly for over 20 years.The issue is that if your sewer line is clogged and the water backs up into the sink the AAV will get sewage in the valve and most likely fail to operate correctly...thus your smell.

    Thanks, but it is not properly installed. It needs to terminate just slightly above the sink when it it filled to the top because air only has to be above water to drain efficiently. Looks like it should be 18"'s higher.

      It cant though yea whoever built this place.. Its ____ Who ever signed off on it ___ was built during the housing boom talk to people who fix stuff. Not all all uncommon Its messed. That makes sense though sometimes sinks drain slow here

      If it was 18 inches higher it would be a vent just gleaming at you as you use your bathroom sink. That would be weird.

    My Dad said..., use Oatey 39017 Sure-Vent Air Admittance Valve. He said they last longer and more reliable.

    I live in a cottage that has this under my kitchen sink/island. It constantly gurgles. I mean every second *loud* gurgling. It’s filled thick with black stuff I’m hoping isn’t black mold? It doesn’t really smell, oddly since it’s covered in that. How much average would it cost to replace this? How can I clean this since I can’t do the after rinse with draino like products? I’ve had two plumbers come and tell me the gurgling is normal, and not care at all. Trying to relax on the couch and all I hear is loud gurgling. I don’t want to waste more $ on people who don’t care please help lol

      The part is made by Oatley any home depot lowes etc should have one around 10-12 . All you need is a large pipe wrench and it un threads. No idea probably any plumber would charge $120 or more because they all are a rip.

      Your valve is most likely broken and stuck shut. That’s why it’s not smelling

    i just took my vent cap off, its just a super cheap black cap and its pretty rattly. im going to change it and hopefully it takes care of the smell. it smells like sour garbage in our house. i live in a manufactured doubewide. the source of the smell is under the kitchen sink, if that doesnt fix the smell what else could it be?

    • @GhettoWagon
      @GhettoWagon  Рік тому

      should fix it its just sewer gas getting in. If it still stinks you could plug it off then devise of some sort of vent that vents outside Thats what I would of did with this piece of junk condo. But you are not allowed to do anything

    Pause @ 0:14 - Pull those " Caps " out and put a bit of Silicone in there + around the Wall. Put that Cap back, clean extra residue and once they dry, it will be secured. I did these to our Rental Properties so People don't yank them out of the Walls.

    • @GhettoWagon
      @GhettoWagon  6 років тому

      You have plastic pipes too? I hate pvc. The bozo's who built this place forgot the caps on a few places so they cut them so they could slide them on later.

    • @GhettoWagon
      @GhettoWagon  6 років тому

      Steel cased electrical wire too! Yea no nothing here. Anyone can glue pipes. Think the art of sweating pipes is gone! Here for fear of fires they put your main breaker OUTSIDE so anyone can be outside and flip the switch. That's it. Oh. Now they mandate sprinklers in condo's. In the back. Was built later, all Chinese drywall infact there was a nation wide news article when they tried some revolutionary treatment with gasses to try to FIX Chinese drywall w/o replacing it in the back of here closer to the cell tower. It didn't work. I have the picture somewhere 2 places were "Circus tented" Chinese drywall was EVERYWHERE around here. Gotta be a ignorant moron to choose this area.. Hmmm someone I am related to. I was just piss broke in my 20's living in NY. Finally somewhat recovered

      +Ghetto Wagon - No our Pipes are still Copper.... But the Plates are like loose and flopping around. So I took Silicone and make it like a big button... Then I pressed it against the Wall... When dry, it helps to support the Pipes and prolong damaging. I also did that to the Top of the Shower too.... Sometimes those would " Flop Around " too. NOTE: Oh, other " important " locations..... Under the Kitchen Sink and under the Sink in the bathroom.... The Toilet Cold Water.... That is the most " Fragile " place, since People like to put Plungers and etc... around there. Make sure to " Glue " them with Silicone, like I did.
