      Use silicone calking under the ammo can, especially around the hole... That'll quiet any vibrations, too.

    I’d recommend putting a thin piece of rubber under the ammo box so the vibration doesn’t scratch up the paint. I think the holes were probably for turn signals or hazard lights. I enjoy the videos.

      or even 2 strips of treated wood, or oil soaked wood or whatever ( so it won't rot), and you'll want to spray paint the hole you drilled in the box so that doesn't rust as well...or coat it grease etc.

    That is a .50 cal. box. Superb for storage. There are larger ammo boxes. I don't remember if they were for the 40mm cannon rounds or for rockets. You could check it out online or go by a military surplus shop if there is one in your area. Love your videos.

    Foam weather stripping works well for mounting tool boxes, I used some when I mounted the toolbox in the bed of my truck, as I felt the material supplied was too thin. The roll of the weather stripping is inexpensive too.

    Nice! I agree with Johnny G’s DIY. A sheet of solid rubber under each can will protect the paint. I would think 3/32-inch should do the trick. Nice ammo cans, btw. The ammo boxes seemed to work great! If they do develop a vibration problem just take 'em off and put some big gobs of silicone caulk on the bottom and let them set over night then put 'em back on. A side note, my father died in 1989 and as a last request he wanted to be cremated, which we did. But having already owned burial plots we decided to bury the cremains. He had been a U.S. Marine during WWII and we thought it fitting to put his ashes in a .50 caliber ammo box and then buried the entire thing.

    Ok, voice of experience here. 1st time viewer but will most likely subscribe. Now on to this voice of experience... Those cans look really sharp on your tractor. I put two of them on my old Ford about a year ago. Now, with my old Ford it didn't matter much but you remember all that vibration you spoke of in your tractor? Say goodbye to that pretty red pair job on your fenders..
    Save the day.. Het some rubber feet and attach them to the bottom of the cans. You only need small ones to dicipate the vibration that's going to otherwise sand all the paint off.
    Also, 4-6 little rubber feet won't hold water like a full rubber mat would creating rust..
    Good luck with whatever you do.

    The hole in the fender is for auxiliary lights. And you really need a rubber pad under the box or glue hose washers under the corners and at the bolt.

  • @mercoid
    @mercoid 5 років тому +4

    Perhaps sandwich a rubber pad between the fender and ammo box. A silicone sil pad normally used as a release medium for baking should do nicely. If not for noise mitigation, which I think it would help with, I’d be more concerned about keeping moisture from working it’s way between.

  • @gscott5778
    @gscott5778 5 років тому

    Agree with other comments - Put some sort of padding under the boxes to 1) save the Paint and 2) Prevent vibration noise. (Sooner or later that thing will work loose just enough to become a very annoying buzzing vibration AND then chew up the paint as it vibrates.)

    Another great video! And I was thinking, if you get some of those cabinet bumpers you stick on the inside of the door so it doesn't slam, you could put one one each corner and it would prevent water from getting underneath. And it would help with any vibration as well. But those lock nuts do a great job too. They look great and with the decal like they were made for the tractor! Great idea and Thanks Much Nathan! As if you need ANOTHER suggestion... Two things: 1) Run the bolt UP, so only the head is toward the tire. 2) Place a sheet of rubber between the box and fender. The vibration between the two will ruin the paint on the fender in no time.

    Couple quick pointers or ideas if you will your tractor so you do what you think is best but go buy yourself some weatherstripping from Walmart or wherever and just attach it to the toolbox on the bottom so that it will not rub against the fender and scratch the fender and you'll be doing a hundred times better next turn your bolt upside down that way it has exact same clearance at all times between your Fender and your tire and having a bolt stick up a little bit through the bottom of the toolbox is going to be okay specially if you're putting chains in there it's not going to hurt it and you could easily measure how much would you really need at that point so you can get something longer than an inch and a half whatever it is the final thing is I go get a piece of steel or something like that drill hole in it and put it on the inside of your toolbox so it would sandwich between the fender and the toolbox itself as a big washer more or less and that way you don't have one tiny little bolt and washer trying to wear a hole through the bottom of that toolbox you got a big plate in there and it's less likely to wear a hole and worry a hole in your toolbox or your fender

    Nathan I have just what you need. its a ammo can from a navy huey chopper that had a Vulcan mini gun attached to it. the can is roughly 20in tall by about 24 in long by about 12in wide. these measurements are only guesses due to the fact that when my son split for virginia he took all my tools with him including my tape measure. imagine that ammo box you have on steroids n covering your entire tractor's fender. now, im 6'4 n when standing next to the box it almost comes up to my knees. I found it in an antique shop down in Wharton texas n I paid 19.00 for it. check online n you just might be able to find a pair of em.

I love DIY solutions, and farmers / woodworkers seem to have the best ones.

    If you do not want any vibration at all then put rubber pieces on all four corners of the bottom ammo box. They are at the local big box store for picture frames or putting glass on coffee table... Then tighten down the box.... why not put the bolt upside down with the head under the fender and the nut in the box... the chain is not going to be harmed by the nut or the end of the bolt... neither are the tools... wrenches, hammer, etc.... Could bolt down one box and weld ( bolt) others side by side with the rubber pieces on the bottom... second box welded just about a sixteenth of inch un-level to the first ...pushing up the first box a little off the fender..... Oh well just food for thought!!!!!!!!!!

      great another comment from someone who hasn't done their research, John Deere uses mostly Yanmar engines now in almost all machines, Yanmar engines are made in Japan and shipped over and dropped in the tractors here in the US like Mahindra does, they also buy their transmissions from a plant in France. My buddy owns a dealership here and most parts on their tractors are imported like others. next time do your research before commenting, Also head to your closet and check the tags on your clothing, do any of them say made in other countries? If so you are a hypocrite, and I bet they do.

    • @gregwilliams386
      @gregwilliams386 5 років тому

      @@OutoftheWoods0623 I realize that. John Deere has plants in Japan, Germany and the US. Small tractors are made in Japan and the medium sized tractors are made in Germany and the large tractors are made in the US. I guess I'm splitting hairs. Money goes to labor or Management.
      My clothes do say made in another country. But, I never touched anything that was made in a foreign country once, all our shirts were made in Oregon or North Carolina. We only had Lee's and Levi's. Everything we had was American made.
      But we have screwed ourselves. I'm sorry for bringing this up. But..... I've had very good luck with JD products.
