I believe it was a serial, to be watched over a matter of weeks. We knew how to wait for our rewards, in those days. We also had really good dramas, true appointment television, to be picked over at school, at break in the school library... blimey, we were a pretentious set of friends!
Just Wikipedia’s this and apparently it’s considered (and I quote) “The series is today considered a landmark in quality children’s drama.” This version was made in 1976 by HTV . In America it could be seen on Nickelodeon in the early 80’s as part of the series “The Third Eye.” 😊
First time ever seeing this film. I found it very creepy but it also makes me feel nostalgic because I recognise this music type & the ambience created for this film I remember back in the 70's people where into mysticism occult things & how they went about their lives, there are many nuances in this film that bring back some memories where I was curious of all that until I learned some hard lessons about the forces of darkness & have been aware of it since. I was a kid at the time & forgot what evil looked like until I saw this film. If people aren't careful & protect themselves, they may find themselves surrounded by evil with no way out. Scary if you ask me.
@@davem9208 thank you for pointing out that this was a tv series rather than a film, but as I’ve only seen it on UA-cam, I was not aware of that. Either way, it is a good production and I’d still love to go to the village it was filmed around.
@@David-dr5sq Come to Dorset, too! We have stone circles, burial mounds, barrows, and the incomparable Cerne Abbas Giant. Go on, look up some pictures. I dare you.
The old actors had so little to work with, you had to be a good actor to keep people engaged. Modern actors have endless effects to distract people and they end up not being very good actors. We loae a lot in our quest for advancement. The wise man would be able to make the best of both, but I see no sign of that. The old actors trained in Shakespear, and you cannot get more demanding than Shakespear, consequently by the time they ended up doing this sort of work for the BBC or others, they really knew about real acting. I miss the quality of these type of actors. Even the carry on films had better acting than most of the modern actors.
This mini series was never intended to be sci-fi or horror, it was an instructional video on what to expect if you should happen to relocate to a village in rural England on an academic research grant, such as Blake off Blake's 7 here, and his son.
A sort of warning. As whilst there is no pebble beach there are as many stones in the area. So if you are assigned the task of numbering the stones, you could be there two decades later.
Is that so ? Ive lived my whole life in West Country villages. Apart from the occasional sacrifices and naked dances on Lammas Eve we’re fairly normal, Id say
"This mini series was never intended to be sci-fi or horror, it was an instructional video on what to expect if you should happen to relocate to a village in rural England on an academic research grant, such as Blake off Blake's 7 here, and his son." Hahahahaha!🤣 In a word - Rubbish!
"I deny the existence of that which exists." Sounds like standard climate change policy. All kidding aside I'm really enjoying this. Like a lot of posters here I was a child in the 70s.
This was made in an era where children's TV, in the UK at least, often wasn't treated as 'just' - a lot of shows, such as this one, could easily have been made for an adult audience.
@normanmacfarlane6724 I've been talking about the infantilization of children for over 20 years now! It's nice to see that someone else has noticed. I wouldn't blame any powers that be, however. It's partly a societal over-reaction against (fill in the blank)😂 For me, watching this was such a waste of my time. It was an insult to anyone who know enough to see how information was twisted here, closing, not opening minds. To be fair, it mostly put me to sleep. The young man was a bit more confident in a way his current peers are not these days. That was slightly impressive. Ahh, the 1970s!😂
several minutes in of this brilliant whodunit for kids, a throwaway line by Matt. It resonated with me anyway.. Tanscribing the latin inscription on the picture. i DENY THE EXISTANCE OF THAT WHICH EXISTS. It freaked me out anyway.
Growing up in the US, I did not get to see this as a youngster, but I am so glad to get to see it now as an adult. This was really well done and pretty creepy at times. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Back when kids programmes didn't mind scaring the bejesus out of you. Even the public service announcements about staying away from lonely water were pants fillingly chilling
It used to be acceptable to acknowledge the unpredictability of life, as well as its inherent dangers and violence (accidents, disease, disasters etc). Things werent sugar-coated because it was bestvto be orepared; and, in fact, as a Girl Guide in Canada when i was a girl, "Be Prepared" was the first thing i had to memorise. Nowadays, people have become soft, easily offended, unskilled and generally ignorant. Which is no more than thr truth, but point that out and youll have a dozen people in the comments section "REEEE!-ing" and pointing fingers....

This movie brought so many 90s alternative songs to mind..
Wasn't a movie. Took 7 weeks to watch this.
Meanwhile Dr. Who was in the phonebox down the road...
Tardis not phone booth, but yeah!
Itd been the 'All teeth in curls, plus the 🧣" incarnation at this point lol🤣😆🤟🥃
Oh my gosh Dr Who scared the bejesus out of me. I still can't listen to the music without being scared and I'm 57 now
it's actually called a Police Box🤔🤔😁😁😁😁🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲
@@warbunny13203 A converted 'Police Call Box'.
Awesome. Hard to find this in the States. You are my new best friend.
Thank you for preserving a fantastic work of speculative fiction.
Watched here in Pennsylvania USA 🇺🇸 This movie was worth watching
Greetings fellow Pennsylvanian. Also enjoyed the movie.
I believe it was a serial, to be watched over a matter of weeks. We knew how to wait for our rewards, in those days. We also had really good dramas, true appointment television, to be picked over at school, at break in the school library... blimey, we were a pretentious set of friends!
Awesome work. Thankyou very much for posting this gem.
I was not convinced they could squeeze 2.5 hrs out of this at start. But great acting and a still evolving story 1 hr in. Thank you for upload!
I found it very creepy but it also makes me feel nostalgic because I recognise this music type & the ambience created for this film
I remember back in the 70's people where into mysticism occult things & how they went about their lives, there are many nuances in this film that bring back some memories where I was curious of all that until I learned some hard lessons about the forces of darkness & have been aware of it since.
I was a kid at the time & forgot what evil looked like until I saw this film.
If people aren't careful & protect themselves, they may find themselves surrounded by evil with no way out.
Scary if you ask me.
What a great movie. Totally unexpected ending to a mysterious plot. Fun watch. Thanks for the upload.
I'm 61 and must admit I've never seen this film before, but it makes me to want to jump in the car and visit Avebury right now.
Same here. Perhaps one day.
It wasn't a film, it was a 7 week long series.
I dare you.
Try the orkneys if u want stone circles
Geez, been looking for this for years! Thank you.
Bet that's an Aztec bar he's eating at the beginning.
I was in college when this came out, i was studying to be a jubilee mug maker and thinking was this based on a true story. Juhaptergee
Watched it as a 12 year old. Scary for its time. An HTV Classic
CGI is soulless
This mini series was never intended to be sci-fi or horror, it was an instructional video on what to expect if you should happen to relocate to a village in rural England on an academic research grant, such as Blake off Blake's 7 here, and his son.
A sort of warning. As whilst there is no pebble beach there are as many stones in the area. So if you are assigned the task of numbering the stones, you could be there two decades later.
Is that so ?
Ive lived my whole life in West Country villages. Apart from the occasional sacrifices and naked dances on Lammas Eve we’re fairly normal, Id say
😂
@@ConstableHandsy I'm in Dorset; how could you not mention the Beltane? What larks!
"This mini series was never intended to be sci-fi or horror, it was an instructional video on what to expect if you should happen to relocate to a village in rural England on an academic research grant, such as Blake off Blake's 7 here, and his son." Hahahahaha!🤣 In a word - Rubbish!
So good minimal effects but great acting from the leads it works so well
Thank you for uploading this great series. It brings back fond memories ❤. I've subscribed
Those stainless steel goblets they are using at the stone table. I got two as a wedding present when I got married in 1975 and I've still got them.
Killer sideburns... definitely 70`s vibe.
Good show. Really well done.
Gotta love a good dowse 😀. I've done Avebury, Stonehenge, Callanish, Clava, Druid Stones Inverness, plus a few local sites. Kilmartin next 😉
"I deny the existence of that which exists."
Sounds like standard climate change policy.
All kidding aside I'm really enjoying this.
Like a lot of posters here I was a child in the 70s.
Lol, hey you can't expect people to acknowledge facts if it gets in the way of a good agenda, now can you?
I never knew the opening to Father Ted was so spooky 😂
now then you
Careful now!
Down with this sort of thing!
😂
DRINK!!
even though this is just a silly kids movie it calls back a time of greater sanity, order and happiness
A time of strikes, race riots and power cuts. Hmm yes happy days…
Wasn't a movie. It took 7 weeks to watch this from start to end.
This was made in an era where children's TV, in the UK at least, often wasn't treated as 'just' - a lot of shows, such as this one, could easily have been made for an adult audience.
Great to see “Blake” in Avebury!
That frantic singing is one of the most unsettling things I have ever heard
You wanna try listening to Henry Cow, Mate! (British experimental band of the '60s and '70s.)
This is wonderful ❤😂
Here's an unusual idea . The powers that be are " infantilising children . . . "
Think on that .
No joke. Adults too.
relativity :) whats your foundation for that. victorian era society...not worth the thought process
@normanmacfarlane6724
I've been talking about the infantilization of children for over 20 years now! It's nice to see that someone else has noticed. I wouldn't blame any powers that be, however. It's partly a societal over-reaction against (fill in the blank)😂
For me, watching this was such a waste of my time. It was an insult to anyone who know enough to see how information was twisted here, closing, not opening minds. To be fair, it mostly put me to sleep. The young man was a bit more confident in a way his current peers are not these days. That was slightly impressive.
Ahh, the 1970s!😂
@@ruthanneseven But it is presented as 'Fiction'. Not as Educational.
OOOh, how did I miss this? 65 and I love folk horror. Phantasagorical!
several minutes in of this brilliant whodunit for kids, a throwaway line by Matt. It resonated with me anyway.. Tanscribing the latin inscription on the picture. i DENY THE EXISTANCE OF THAT WHICH EXISTS. It freaked me out anyway.
I grew up watching gubbins like this. Love it !
The whispering and eerie singing!
Growing up in the US, I did not get to see this as a youngster, but I am so glad to get to see it now as an adult. This was really well done and pretty creepy at times. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Great film. Reminds me of an episode from the Outer Limits.
Crop circles completely changed my life, and I am profoundly grateful to those who create them.
The fake ones suck
I thought this would be a documentary about Mick Jagger and Keith Richard’s’ kids 😂
That's bloody Blake from B7 !
And Charlie Endle frae Budgie
So glad I found this! 💖🙏🥰
This didn't make it to the Netherlands back then and it predates us being able to watch British tv on cable. I'm going to enjoy this. It's got Blake!
Wow have wondered about this series for years as never come across it again since was a kid. Was strange then and still is.
Back when kids programmes didn't mind scaring the bejesus out of you. Even the public service announcements about staying away from lonely water were pants fillingly chilling
WONDERFUL! great movie. must see.
Wow watched this as a kid I'm 57 scared the life out of me!!!
Just watching it now interesting what it was about as I couldn't remember! Avebury !!
Anything filmed in the 70's has a spooky weird vibe, very hard to reproduce now
There's elements of "Invasion of the Bodysnatchers", "The Wicker Man", "Quatermass" and "Dr Who" woven in to this, plus others: What's not to like?
I liked the Quatermass tv film with the stones in -huffity puffity, ringstone round .
Thank you for uploading. What a brilliantly spooky gem.
That section at 1:57 is one of the greatest monologues ever caught on film. I want to hear that as a sample for a doom metal or post rock band.
Happy Day, everyone. Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the painting first revealed by Matthew at the five minute mark?
