      @tylerw.5458 I enjoy some humor and liveliness in a video myself.
      But nothing is more entertaining than the viewers who get all triggered and emotionally disregulated over things like background music or a person's individuality and just being who they are.
      They put themselves through such turmoil over the fact that the UA-camr could not read everyone's mind on acceptable background music to use.
      "The music is annoying"
      As if he's mentally incapable of moving past it to focus on the point of the video. Therefore they become trolls.
      It's fascinating!

    I have found that just using the cast iron as you have described, will eventually smooth out the pan. Specially if you have had to reset the whole process due to excessive build up and for example, you put it through a self-cleaning oven cycle. Then after that, when it cools, you scrub it with steel wool and dish soap and re-season the pan. You will notice that it gradually and in a very controlled fashion smooths out considerably when compared to when it was new or if you have a new one. I often use wood or silicone utensils, and when cleaning it, I heat the pan up, and pour some boiling water in it and scrub it with a Lodge brush and sometime use the Lodge plastic scraper, if necessary, most of the time the scrapper is not necessary. I will say, she's been absolutely non-stick as any cast iron can be.

    How often should the seasoning process be repeated? You just go over it again when the pan starts becoming sticky again?

    Flackseed oil smoke point is 225f smoke point so when u bake it at 400f for an hr your just burning it away. Is that true.

    I followed your instructions. But im dumb, so i did additional steps and now i need help. Lol
    1. I followed the steps on this video perfectly
    2. I cooked bacon in the pan. The bacon stuck to the pan, so i cleaned it well afterwards.
    3. Since the bacon stuck, i figured i seasoned it improperly, so i decided to season it again.
    4. I cleaned the pan with soap and water, with a brush.
    5. I put it into the oven to dry all the water off.
    6. The skillet, now dry, has "rust" on it, in the bowl of the pan.
    Did i ruin the pan? Am i supposed to use soap and water and scrub it for each subsequent seasoning? Thanks

    • @michaeledwards2605
      @michaeledwards2605 5 місяців тому +1

      Certainly not. I add a couple more layers of seasoning to a new Lodge pan because one coat isn't enough. They pre-season it with one coat to prevent rust until it gets in your hands. But food sticks until you;
      1. Use it enough to naturally build up seasoning,
      2. Add more layers for immediate non-stick performance.
      Once your pan is well seasoned, it should be fine if well cared for.

      Olive oil is commonly NOT recommended due to its low smoke point. And yes, people use bacon grease and yes, it does carry risk of going rancid. I like flax oil.

    you don’t have to send a pan, No.
    I noticed on your back wall you have all new lodge products that’s OK. I have Griswold from the 1920s, I have Lodge from the 1930s and 40s. Those pans are all smooth there is a difference in how they perform. do they do the exact same thing absolutely , but for me, I have knocked off the high points on a new new lodge which my kids use. I own an few artisan pan that are also smooth pan and a number five lodge pan that I sanded smooth inside that I use daily. most of us
    have older pants they hold that black color that don’t happen overnight. just because it is black doesn’t mean it’s seasoned. seasoning your pan takes several uses so for beginner I think you should buy a new lodge season it, and learn how to use it. But because I’ve owned him and I use them, I prefer a smooth pan.

    • @lodgecastirondude

      My pans were rough at first, not anymore. They're only a year and a half old. I use them camping over a fire, indoors on an electric stove outside on a propane stove, and they're absolutely great cooking tools.

    you say having a cast iron skillet is not a big deal, but if you don't take care of them properly, a person can ruin it. I did, twice. I tried to take care of them but damaged one beyond repair and the second one, that I have now I think is repairable if I remove all the seasoning and start over. This happened because I was ignorant on the care and upkeep of a cast iron skillet. Just sayin'.....

    I think the advertising on the smooth high end cast iron pans is a marketing ploy! They use the smoothing machining process as an excuse to charge $150-$200+ for a pan that's not going to hold seasoning as well as a $30 Lodge pan! JMHO

    I laugh at people paying 200-400 for a milled pan or hand sanding their own. This used to be common knowledge for everyone from about 1600 to 1970ish. After you cook and season it about 20-25 times smooth as a baby’s butt.
