Is it possible for a relay for your turn signals and hazards to fail on three of the lights but still work on one. my passenger front works but it's the only one on both signal and haz. lights. 2004 GMC Canyon. scratching my head on this one any help would be great. frustration has set in LOL
My starter was bad but the mechanic replaced a switch commutateur interrupter, now my passenger side turn signal hyperflashes on the front, I have no turn signal on the rear. You can feel it in the relay switch located in my fuse box next to my dash. My starter was replaced, but why did they install a commutateur interrupter switch? And, why does the relay switch that they installed cause the hyperflash? Now, they tell me that they can install another switch that will cause the relay switch to stop the hyperflash. Personally, I think it's BS, why keep adding more switches?
thank you very much for making this video! I tried reading a write up explaining how relays work and I wasn't grasping everything very well. but now that I have seen this video it all makes a lot more sense to me, it may be just that it's one of those things that you have to see in motion to understand better.. thanks again! 😀

A relay tester.....This is the first video I've seen to bring this tool up into the discussion! Also very good explanation of how a relay works. A helpful and informative video! 👍
Here's some advice for fixing this for free. Yeah they're cheap but you may get stranded and need to fix it. I had a ranger that sometimes wouldn't start. Everyone kept telling me it was a bad fuel pump. It worked fine on a cold start, but if I turned it off after it warmed up, and tried to start it back, the fuel pump wouldnt come on. I managed to find out that when the engine bay warmed up, the relay wasn't engaging. I did this by swapping the relay with something else and trying it. I then, being completely broke, cut open the top of my relay and saw one of the contacts near the coil of copper wire (electro magnet) was bent slightly away from the coil. I pushed it back straight, and taped up the relay housing good to keep dirt out of it, and bam. worked like a charm for the entire rest of the time I owned that truck and it cost me nothing. and if I'd listen to everyone else I'd have wasted time and money on replacing the fuel pump. The reason I didn't think it was the pump is because it was intermittent and only when the car had warmed up, and it never acted up while driving, only if I shut it off then tried to start it again. Long story but I'm telling it so people know a relay can be intermittent. If you're not sure what to do, mark it with a sharpie (so you know which one is the original) and swap it with another relay and see if the problem follows or not.
Thank You so much for this video. It helped me sort out something that had been driving me crazy. Did not realize that inserting it backwards will 'randomly' break stuff.
Really good video. Both of my headlights went out. First thing I noticed was some corrosion on the battery clamps which I got rid of, and I made sure the fuses worked. I will be checking the relay after this. God I hope it's the relay, I do not want to deal with wiring harness. Also, do you think that a bad, maybe worn out battery clamp can cause the headlights to not turn on, even after car stars and all the other light work?
From the videos, I watched if you’re working on your ECM make sure your keys not in the ignition as it would start the car and you don’t want it to be and drive 7:00
This works sometimes: bang on relay. I had a horn relay that would not work. So I disconnected battery. Tugged, poked, whacked and shook relay. Would not come out. Read it had to be replaced with whole relay tray, or cut out. Hooked up battery to call it a night and presto it worked. I guess it was just stuck with a little corrosion. If does it again I'll drill 3 tiny holes in the top and spray silicone spray into relay to possibly fix corrosion issue for long time.
Great vid my gmc sierra 2000 tries to turn on ... But it can't catch ... We changed the fuel pump ... What else could it be ? I'm guessing the relay? It's on old truck but still runs good when it runs
Here's the deal. Before I got my iPad and my Bluetooth code reader I never did much work on vehicles with computers. Now, here it is. If you have a vehicle, with over 100,000 and your going to keep it for another hundred thousand miles plus. Here's what you do. Take every relay and fuse from the in cab fuse box and the engine fuse box and throw them away. Replace every fuse and relay you have. For the most part you will not have another problem regarding anything link to the computer other than a computer itself. That is it, you can thank me later.. That's it. You want to cheat the repair man and save money that's what you do.. Also every time you change oil, change the fuel filter. Put risolone in every oil change. It works.put a can of sea foam in the fuel tank every oil change as well. Also, oh and 100,000 miles, change spark plug. And change serpentine belt. If you haven't done it already. If you replace one item it's new. Every other item is old. The c computer will struggle any other relays fuses will weaken whatever you put in new. change only two spark plugs and leave six bad and see what happens. POSs in mechanics. Do this and you won’t see them very often.

2004 Escalade I need serious help with quick. The vehicle cranks and runs great but I have a large parasitic draw. I Purchased a volt meter and It showed a 193 mA draw. 108 mA is coming from the 40A IGN A fuse. That is the actual ignition switch. I replaced the switch and it didn’t help at all. mA is the same. Any idea what else could be associated with this fuse and why I’m still getting that 108 mA draw? Also my EVAC/ECAS 10A fuse is pulling 85 mA. When I pull both it gets my parasitic draw to 25 mA which is normal. Your expertise would be very much appreciated! So frustrated!!!!

My car won't start... even though my battery is brand new. The starter is working as well... So I'm hoping maybe I have a bad relay. I don't know a ton about cars so I hope this video helps me.
+JabeZ Zz We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Did you find out what was the problem ? I'm having the same issue with my 2008 Chevy Malibu Ltz
@@ToniExMazizoMusical Check the wiring and make sure the clamps on the battery terminals are tight and you can wiggle it around, also check to see if it’s not corroded that will sometimes cause a bad connection to the terminal and cause it to not start nor crank
Excellent explanation!!!
We a need a look at those relay pullers.
What if the relay is warm to the touch?
