“Powerful samurai of historical legend” 😂🤣
Bro wasn’t a Samurai. He was a retainer who carried Nobunaga’s tools and weapons.

Yasuke wasn't conclusively known to be a samurai, and he isn't anywhere near a historical legend. We know he existed, we know he was brought to Japan by the Jesuits, and he was made a retainer of Oda Nobunaga, but that's about it.
The Yasuke in Shadows is complete fiction. Ubisoft could have just invented a new character, but they couldn't help themselves.

Yasuke wasn't a powerful Samurai, he was a retainer of Oda Nobunaga, and while it's generally "admitted" that he was made a Samurai by Nobunaga, there are very little historical records to confirm it. If he had been a full-fledged Samurai, i doubt that he would've been given back to the Jesuits after Nobunaga's death, which he was.

You can’t hear or something? She said he was a samurai OF historical legend. Do you know what a legend is? It’s a story that starts off accurate then gets exaggerated over time 🤦🏿‍♂️ she’s absolutely right. Yasuke was a retainer under oda meaning he was one single level beneath samurai status. Over time his story grew world wide and people started exaggerating his story saying he was 10 feet tall and as strong as 10 men even though he was around 6’2” then people started calling him a samurai.

@@Maqlooba39 he was neither a samurai nor a legend. Dude had no reputation and did nothing his entire life. There is almost nothing documented on his life because he did so little while he was alive. Nobody called him a samurai, he was literally never known as one. Being a retainer DOES NOT MAKE YOU CLOSE TO SAMURAI STATUS. Obunaga’s shoe retainer was a PEASANT. a retainer is just a job title. NOT a social status.

@@zzodysseuszz this is what happens when you get all your information from UA-cam instead of actually doing any research at all 🤦🏿‍♂️ just because you say say something with passion doesn’t make it true. He absolutely was famous and he did have a reputation during and after his time in Oda’s army. Since you like to deny basic history without doing any research I’m sure you’re also the type to demand credible sources and evidence so I’ll give you some in advance. Look at the writings of Christian Jesuit historians of the time whose work has been credited till today like Luís Frois, Jean Crasset, and François Solier. All of their accounts mention his military status, experience, and history. And if you want something more direct and in depth proving his status take the writings of Matsudaira letada who was a samurai himself under Tokugawa leyasu and who fought side by side with Yasuke. And you clearly don’t know the meaning of an army retainer 🤦🏿‍♂️ according to oxford’s dictionary, a retainer is a fee paid in advance to someone, especially in order to secure or keep their services when required. And if you take a look at the word in a context of war it says “a retainer provided services, especially military, to a lord(s) who in return offered wealth, protection, and(or) land.” So yes he absolutely was a retainer and that doesn’t mean he was a peasant. It’s high status. JUST underneath samurai status. He was a paid warrior with a salary who was loyal to oda till his death.

@@zzodysseuszz I’ll explain why you’re completely wrong respectfully and with evidence. Let’s start with the meaning of a retainer in war then I’ll give you credible sources proving his military experience and social status. According to oxfords dictionary, a retainer is “a fee paid in advance to someone in order to secure or keep their services when required.” And if you look at the word’s context in war it says a retainer is someone who “provides services, especially military, to a lord(s) who in return offers wealth, protection, and(or) land.” Meaning it is a social status not just a title. If you want the best example of retainers who had social status look at the Ronin. Now, since you want some sources I’ll give you some from Christian Jesuit historians of the time whose work has been credited till this day like Jean Crasset, The author of "Histoire de l'église du Japon," which details Yasuke’s shocking high status as an outsider, or François Solier who wrote "Histoire Ecclesiastique Des Isles Et Royaumes Du Japon," which talks about Yasuke’s military experience and his status as a warrior. And if you want more in depth proof read the works of Matsudaira letada who was a samurai himself under Tokugawa leyasu and who fought side by side with Yasuke on 2 accounts.
