    Nice easy explanation. Watched other videos that just show them taking it off at odd angles and throwing new filters on. No explanations like yours.

    I have a '99 Cutlass and it has the same black fitting. I ended up dropping the tank with the filter still on, but the night after I finally found a lead on some videos about those fittings. Right now I have the pump and the cables and lines in a trash bag but I can finally disconnect the fuel filter.

    It's throwing the fuel pump for me😄😄. No but great video lots of good information. I actually have a tool that goes around the pipe and up into the fitting to release it. $24 for a pack of 4 different sizes, well worth it.

    here's a thought on the filter disconnect. if your gonna replace it then why fight too get it off. maybe just cutting the filter body off with a bolt cutters is a better idea. since your going too replace the filter ,then ya don't have too deal with the whole unit. all you will have is the nipple and the steel tubing and plastic connector locking piece.just a thought.

    I just came back from Ace Hardware with an arbor and some cut off wheels. I cut out the metal under the rear seat and accessed it there. I cut around the X stamped into the metal an 8x8 square inch and peeled it up with my old claw hammer 🔨

    This was a big help but my quick connect looks a little diffrent on my 2003 Grand Am it has some kind of green latch I can't figure out so I assume it still slides back like the one in the video. The plastic adapter info was a bug help because I had no idea what it was for so thanks for the video.

    I have another comment from the last time I removed the filter. I must have ignored or disagreed with what you said about the new plastic piece because here I was trying to figure out the black piece again. Hopefully I still have the new plastic part somewhere, if not it’s probably worth it to buy a new fuel filter just for the plastic piece. My fuel pump may need to be replaced anyways, now or not far down the road.

      I agree, they are fun to drive, but a real pain in the arse to work on. Much easier if you have the right info though. like how to change the headlight bulb. should be easy, and it is. if you know how its done. if you don't, drunk marines whould blush from the language heard in the general area of the car. Thanks for watching! Im not a proffesional mechanic, i just play one on youtube. However if I ever get a vacuum leak, rest assured I will make a video. You can try to narrow your leak down by sprying brake cleaner around all the vacuum lines and the intake while the engine is running. the engine will change rpm ehrn the brake clean finds the leak. . hope that helps.

      I have a 2005 Pontiac Grand am se with the 3.4 engine. We thought the fuel pump went out when my son borrowed it. He changed the relay and the cat still didn't start. I went out one cold night and put a jump box on the car and it started right up. I drove down a few blocks and parked it. Tried to start it the next day and it wouldn't start. Is the fuel bad when it's bad or can it be an intermittent problem? Should I just change the fuel pump out? Thanks for any help.

Hate those videos that assume you will only be doing textbook repairs or assume you just follow along all skipped adventures. You made a terrific video for those of us searching for a lead on fixing our cars. Your detail on every thing one might hit against is the best. Thanks for the detail on swapping out the stupid little plastic clip. I did break my black one (it was very brittle by the time I touched it) too but now I know to take out the small metal cage too. thanks

    • @dzlfreek
      @dzlfreek  9 років тому

      Newfie Led Man Im going to assume that not much changed from 99 to 03 so here goes my 2 cents. The threaded fitting goes to the engine, so yes you could replace that, but im not sure how long that piece is. A less expensive option, if you are so inclined, would be to get a section of that line from a junkyard and use a compression fitting to join the new line with the existing line, at a section of good line. I dont have this car anymore so I cant visualize that "j" shaped pipe youre refering to, sorry.

      if you have a scan tool check to see it the engine mngt sys is diagnosing a problem..but since I cant be there to see for myself and Im not a professional mechanic (I just play one on youtube) I would follow the old school shade tree advice of start with the simple stuff first. fuel, compression, spark, these need to be in place for the engine to run, so based on what you said it sounds fuel or spark related. Id start by going over the fuel lines to make sure there are no leaks. check the fpr for an internal leak (a friend had this on a 5.7 and was dumping raw fuel directly into the intake and filled the crank case) also check all your vacuum lines as a vacuum leak will def make the engine run like crap. wouldn't hurt to check your compression and rule out any mechanical issues. maybe check your coil packs too. I know how frustrating tracking down these problems can be. sometimes its best to take a step away and the answer presents itself when you mind isn't eff bombing the car to hell....if you know what I mean.I don't know if that was helpful or not but good luck, keep lookin for the answer and thanks for the comment

    • @dzlfreek
      @dzlfreek  6 років тому

      you have to relieve the pressure thats in the fuel lines, or you will get covered in gas. Remove the fuel pump relay, start the car and any residual pressure will lead off because the fuel pump isn't powered.
