    Great video, thank you so much! I went to a popular auto parts store and they couldn't figure out how to replace the headlight bulb. they took off all these bolts and it still didn't come out. so I was told that I needed to go to repair shop, cause I was a girl, and have someone replace it. Instead I pulled up this video and replaced it less than 10 minutes! so you saved my pride and my pocket book:)

    Hahaha thanks! That's our Florida Maraca-Playing Bugs. I think they are realy cicadas. They are pretty much a non-stop noise around here, but after hearing them for so long, you eventually don't hear them anymore. Thanks for the comment :)

    All cars are required to have headlight adjustments, each type though has a different procedure. Check the repair manual for your particular vehicle to find the method to do it.

    You have much better luck than every time I have to change a lightbulb on the front, as it seems a lot different than the way I'm used to:
    Left out the part with the swearing as the plastic pop clips holding the cover panel get lost or broken, and over 10 minutes of additonal swearing as one of the "easy-to-remove" slide clips doesn't want to come out and leaves your hand bloody on it's razor-sharp edge, and leaves you resorting to pliers and a screwdriver to pry it out. Then when the headlight assembly drops out, the tabs holding the rubber trim on it scratch the paint on the front bumper. (FUUUUuuuu!) And then another half hour of trying to align the headlight retainer blocks as they're obscured by the headlight, and ending up with a cockeyed headlight that you'll have to redo re-installing later as it somehow still isn't aligned and clipped in all the way.
    Bulbs in and out is about as easy as you have it though. The assembly is just a royal PITA. At least the tail lights are 100X easier to deal with.

    How do you change the bracket that holds the head light in?

  • @pauljs75
    @pauljs75 13 років тому +1

    Those pop-clips can be a real pain in the butt sometimes. IIRC, there are actually two sizes of them holding that front trim piece on too.
    As for the side marker bulbs, I'd also get new ones by default... By the time the headlights get fogged, the amber coating on the side bulbs also tends to be a really flaky mess which will get all over the inside of the reflector and is nearly impossible to get out.
    Also don't use any ammonia cleaners on polycarbonate lenses. Only use soap and wax them.

    Is it possible to bend the locking clips to the point that they are unremovable? I think I may have accidentally done that. :( I was replacing bulbs on the passenger side light and when I was putting the assembly back in I guess I didn't get it in all the way before I slid the clip back down and now it's locked in there without the assembly in place. I tried and tried to get the clip back out but it seems like it's stuck. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks for any help and for the video.

    Can't afford a new headlight replacement. How can I clean the inside of my headlights? They are very cloudy

    • @APDTY
      @APDTY  9 років тому

      The headlights are sealed when they are being made, no way to get inside without cutting them open. We also have not found any super great way to clean the fog from the headlights and we have used a bunch of different brand cleaners. They look good for a couple moths then seem to fog back up again as the problem more has to do with the plastic degrading and being more susceptible to the sun.

      I had some pretty bad headlights on my 01 grand am gt and I used the 3M 39045 kit and they look pretty much brand new.
      You may think its from the inside but it may be from the outside!
      They say to dry sand the first 2 stages, however I recommend u use water, it helps prolong the sand paper life and you don't have to worry about all the dust. When I did mine I did the first 2 stages by hand in circular motion and then side to side, then switch to next sand paper and use circular motion again then side to side. wipe between stages and keep headlight wet. it will make your headlights look really frosty, but u must continue with the finer grits of sand paper and buffing and polishing to get the final result. u may still be able to see very fine scratches. but looks as good as new. if you want to take it to the next step get a spray can of UV Resistant, Non Yellowing Clear Coat Spray Can and apply a few coats and let it dry for a day. then u can go back and buff it. The clear coat will basically cover the fine scratches left behind on the headlight and protect it from yellowing. you can find a video by ChrisFix How to Restore Headlights PERMANENTLY....
      If after all this it still looks like crap take off the headlight and let some water flow through like a garden hose or and then try to find where moister is getting in to the headlight from the beginning and seal it with some silicon rated for outdoor use, clear, non yellowing, uv resistant. ChrisFix also has a video on this
      one last tip when you are using the drill with sandpaper you want to be careful as you can easily damage stuff specially with the first 2 grits of sand paper, it will cut trough the nipples on the headlights if ur not careful, and make sure to tape around the headlight or u risk sanding the body of ur car, not good at all, u can ask my friend how that went for him

      Miababy1214 you don't clean the inside clean the outside. It requires you too sand the outside of the light I wouldn't recommend cause it weakens the light

    The most annoying thing on this car is that little plastic thing you have to remove. I had to put my stock air filter back on and had to put the plastic overlay back on in order to keep the ram air vent in place.
