Offensive Spells - Damage & Elements
I’ll just list the damage values per spell in this section and then give the advice. These are the base damage numbers which means you can do even more damage if you use buffs and debuffs or they can be lower if your target is resistant to that element.
    Fire element damage:
    -Frizz 2MP [10-36]
    -Frizzle 8MP [62-114]
    -Kafrizz 21MP [158-319]
    -Kafrizzle 52MP [382-794]
The Frizz family of spells is great single target damage assuming your target doesn’t resist fire. It’s pretty common for monsters to be both resistant or vulnerable to fire, so it’s great throughout the game.
    Fire element damage
    -Sizz 3MP [16-32]
    -Sizzle 7MP [40-86]
    -Kasizz 21MP [108-244]
    -Kasizzle 48MP [324-648]
The Sizz family of spells is group fire damage, it’s a bit weaker than Frizz but it’s cheaper and multi target. Since you get the choice of two series of fire spells it’s a good idea to get in the habit of switching depending on situation so you don’t waste MP
    Ice element damage:
    -Crack 3MP [24-48]
    -Crackle 8MP [48-96]
    -Kacrack 20MP [120-240]
    -Kacrackle 60MP [360-720]
The Crack line of spells is your Ice damage and Crackle and after are group AoE. Ice tends to be resisted a bit more than fire but it’s still pretty strong especially if your target is weak to ice. Just be aware only Rab gets Kacrackle.
    Wind element damage:
    -Woosh 5MP [24-48]
    -Swoosh 10MP [80-124]
    -Kaswoosh 20MP [188-226]
    -Kaswooshle 50MP [386-624]
The Woosh family of spells are wind group AoE damage and are exclusive to Serena and Sylv Their damage is pretty inconsistent regardless of resistance and Serena’s nonexistent MMi. Still a decent source of damage for a healer who normally spends turns on more supportive actions.
    Light element damage:
    -Bang 6MP [19-38]
    -Boom 12MP [72-144]
    -Kaboom 24MP [164-270]
    -Kaboomle 60MP [360-720]
The Bang family of spells are very consistent and completely AoE. They’re also light elemental damage, light is pretty rarely resisted so it’s very reliable for attacking all enemies throughout the game.
    Dark element damage:
    -Zam 6MP [55-77]
    -Zammle 9MP [88-111]
    -Kazam 18MP [144-266]
    -Kazammle 42MP [333-555]
The Zam family of spells is exclusive to Rab and one of only ways to deal dark damage. Zam always remains single target, however Zam spells, uniquely have 4x critical hit rate. This applies to any current spell crit boosts from equipment and buffs. You can get an easy 80% crit rate by using the “Ring of Ruin” ability from Heavy Wands, since it grants 20% spell crit chance to the party.
    Lighting element damage:
    -Zap 8MP [36-136]
    -Zapple 22MP [156-324]
    -Kazap 48MP [360-720]
The Zap line of spells are the most expensive spell family but are pretty potent and lightning is seldom resisted however they are exclusive to Hero. Though they also do heavy damage against mechanical monsters which is good because they normally have high DEF and typically resistance almost everything.
(Kazapple is being omitted because it’s a pep power Instead of a normal spell.)
    Earth element damage:
    -Rubblerouser 8MP [10-36]
    -Boulderbringer 12MP [62-144]
    -Mountainmover 20MP [108-200]
    -Ridgeraiser 36MP [216-300]
The Earth Sigil spell are unique to Erik and the only form of earth damage in the entire game. Think of them as guaranteed poison, these spells can’t miss or fail and can’t really be removed. They’re also effected by any magic or elemental damage boosts. The only bad thing is that they’re kinda expensive for a character with fairly low MP.
    No element damage:
-Magic Burst: AllMP [MP x3 = DMG]
Magic Burst hits like a truck strapped to a meteor AND it’s effected Channel Anger (50% magic damage UP) plus it doesn’t have element either. If you apply Anathematise twice you can get even more damage (50% Magic res DOWN)
Though it’s probably not super efficient since you have to spend a turn using Channel Anger and then spend a turn (or someone else’s turn) restoring her MP.
    Veronica’s MP at Lv.99 is 660. So 660x3 = 1980 + 50% = 2970 damage. This can be increased by farming Seeds of Magic, so, 999x3 = 2997 + 50% = 5994 damage.
Be sure to have Elfin Elixirs on hand to fully restore her MP

Support Spells: Buffs, Debuffs and Statuses
Here I’ll cover the exact effects and usefulness of each spell. The vast majority of all buffs/debuffs come in two tiers, meaning they can be stacked, this is indicated by a little blue number on the buff/debuff’s icon. If there’s no number then it can’t be stacked.
Another thing to be aware with debuffs and statuses is that the set success rate percentages are lowered if an enemy has resistance to it, which most monsters are resistant to something. Same with the percentage increasing if they’re vulnerable to said debuff or status.
In almost all DQ games bosses in late game start using an ability called: Disruptive Wave. This completely eradicated any and all buffs on your active party. (Including pep power) there’s nothing you can do to prevent this other than removing a character from the active party. Now as annoying as Disruptive Wave can be, you still should use your buffs, because a boss using DW is getting them to use up a turn and not deal damage. Nothing ventured, nothing gained after all!
    Attack raising spells:
    -Oomph 4MP [25% ATK UP] Tier 1
    -Oomphle 8MP [50% ATK UP] Tier 2
As you can imagine 50% ATK up is pretty good. However remember it’s only raising Attack not Strength, so be sure you’re using abilities that use ATK not STR
    Defense raising spells:
    -Buff 3MP [100% DEF UP] Tier 2
-Kabuff 6MP [50% DEF UP] Tier 1 (AoE)
Just to be clear this only increases your physical defense so it’s primarily used to protect against physical attackers, especially helpful to keep more fragile party members alive. It’s absolutely necessity on “No Armour” runs.
    Agility raising spells:
    -Accelerate 2MP [40% AGI UP] Tier 2
-Acceleratle 4MP [20% AGI UP] Tier 1 (AoE)
Acceleratle is isn’t really that great, it’s only a 20% increase and if you’re shuffling around everyone’s AGI it isn’t just gonna not make much of difference, However, Tier 2 CAN make a difference, If you need character to go next for certain reason then most of the time it will make them go next. Agility is a rough guide on turn order not the rule.
    Magic resistance raising spell:
-Magic Barrier 4MP [25% Magic Res UP] Tier 1
Magic Barrier is one of the best ways to protect against all elements since there’s very little equipment that protects against all elements. You can cast it twice for Tier 2 and you’ll have 50% resistance.
    Breath resistance spells:
-Insulate 4MP [75% Breath res UP]
-Insulatle 12MP [75% Breath res UP] (AoE)
Reducing breath damage is the next best thing next to reducing magic damage, since an enemy will either use one or the other. The only unfortunate thing is that you won’t get the AoE version of Insulate for quite a while.
    Attack lowering spell:
    -Blunt 6MP [25% ATK DOWN] Tier 1
    [75% - 100% Success rate]
Blunt is actually pretty dependable as it isn’t actually resisted very much, which makes up for the fact there’s no AoE variant and you have to cast it twice for Tier 2. It’s always helpful to reduce the ATK of heavy hitting physical attackers.
    Defense lowering spells:
    -Sap 2MP [75% DEF DOWN] Tier 2
    (75% - 100% Success rate)
Kasap 4MP [50% DEF DOWN] Tier 1 (AoE)
    (75% - 100% Success rate)
This is one of if not the most important debuff in game, 75% DEF DOWN is huge and a must for bosses and it’s got a really good chance to land. Even a Kasap can make most encounters go quicker.
    Agility lowering spells:
    -Decelerate 2MP [40% AGI DOWN] Tier 2
    (75% - 100% Success rate)
-Deceleratle 4MP [20% AGI DOWN] Tier 1 (AoE)
    (75% - 100% Success rate)
Lowering your targets AGI isn’t really an important thing in DQ games, again Agility is more of guide than a rule for turn order. Still it can help sometimes delay an enemy’s turn, however don’t forget AGI also affects evasion so lowering the AGI of fast enemies can stop you from missing so much.
    Magic resistance lowering spell:
    -Anathematise 4MP [25% Magic Res DOWN] Tier. 1 (50% - 75% Success rate)
This can be a decent way to get some nice extra damage for your magic attackers, unfortunately it’s only single target and you have to cast it twice to get to Tier 2. (50%)
    Sleep spells:
    -Snooze 3MP (50% Success rate)
    -Kasnooze 8MP (75% - 100% Success rate) (AoE)
Sleep is pretty universally useful in anything other than a boss. Which is helpful since once you have 4 party members the game won’t hesitate to throw large groups of monsters at you. So it can definitely be helpful to put a even one enemy to sleep. Keep in mind that physical attacks have a 50% chance of waking up someone asleep whereas magic never will.
    Blind spell:
    -Dazzle 3MP (75% - 100% Success rate) (AoE)
Blind is a risky status one hand it can completely cripple hard hitting physical attackers. On the other hand tends to be resisted quite a bit, plus enemies can still get lucky and land a hit anyway. Also in case you aren’t already aware offensive magic can never miss so blindness pointless on casters.
    Spell sealing spell:
    -Fizzle: (75% - 100% Success rate) (AoE)
Fizzle is fantastic for most regular fights since it targets a group so you’re pretty likely to at least silence 1 enemy. Magic is one of the 3 sources of damage in this game next to physical and breath attacks, so Fizzle can actually be better than magic barrier in certain situations.
    Confusion spells:
    -Fuddle 3MP (50% - 100% Success rate)
    -Kafuddle 8MP (75% - 100% Success rate) (AoE)
Confusion is not bad but definitely one of the more unreliable statuses however these spells are the most reliable to apply it. It’s probably not the best idea to have confusion being a main part of your strategy but it’s definitely not worth trying every once in a while.
    Instant death spells:
    -Whack 5MP [50% - 65% Success rate)
    -Thwhack 10MP [50% - 65% Success rate) (AoE)
    -Kathwhack 20MP [75% - 90% Success rate) (AoE)

I’m glad Rubblerouser and its enhanced versions got renamed in Dark Prince to Crag/Craggle/etc. The divergence from the normal spell naming conventions bothered me.
