Very informative and well done. I am working on a project to discover my roots in Cape Verde. What was your impression of your meeting with my cousin President Pires? Braxu
Actually Tim you are wrong on certain issues for example what you stated at 4:28, only Mt Kenya at more than 17000 feet is second to Mt. Kilimanjaro on the African continent. Pico do fogo is at a mere 9281 feet above sea level
I like the introduction to a very unique country that is part of the African Continent. Yes there were some discrepancies but most people don't even know the country. There are a few famous CV's in the US but there is no real knowledge of the history except if you are in Boston or some place on the east coast. I am not a historian but I love all the cultures of our ancient civilization. Europeans did not civilize CV, the sea fairing Africans did. But it was a part of the colonialism experience like most of the Asian, African and American indigenous populations. i want to go to CV some day.
"The cancer of betrail" - Amilcar Cabral In these days of ADOS/FBA i.e. the rise of "We are not African" movements, I could not resist putting the reference here.
The first thing that this reporter says makes no sense at all. When he says African-Americans come to a new Africa and discover your true roots, makes no sense. That's like a Chinese person being told, "Chinese-Americans need to find a new Asia, come to Japan". Unless you have Cape Verdean ancestry, you have no roots in Cape Verde.
steve thompson I'm not mad... people like you always hate on us because we look so good! Watch the video Beautiful People and you will see! You must be on this page for a reason, what's the reason you are here?
Help from Portugal??? The very country that exploited the island during the slave trade and abandon the ppl during the starvation in the 1880's which left the inhabitants to seek limited opportunities in the Americans. Only to b cut off or separated from their native land in 1920 by the American govt. Point is: Its only goin to get better on the island if the political position or money is to be gained....and perhaps more exploitation. My grandmother is from Cape Verde.
If you ask to the cape verdian why he is in the community that speak french when they speak Portuguese? The cape Verdian will answer that you can do it if you wish too!!! It's not a kind of imitation... It's how to get an benefit with another idioma!!!
Cape Verde should get back to its 100% African roots. We have to get rid of the Portuguese influence & culture from Cape Verde. And not let in Portuguese tourists in either
@@darksunmoon2605 Cape Verde wouldnt even be a country if it weren't for the Portuguese, we wouldn't even exist if it wasnt for the Portuguese, so yes, i do agree with what ur saying to an extent but like it or not the Portuguese influence on Cape Cerde is undeniable and cant be overlooked

There was no one living there before the Portuguese took it.

SHAME ABOUT THE TERRIBLE ENGLISH OVER AUDIO.
The narrator is truly ignorant: even says Portuguese and Spanish built this in the island of...lalalala, etc etc. What lies, what ignorance.
Who build it then ?
