    Hi Andrew,can "fall back on somebody" be used to mean "count on somebody",if can,is this a common use?

    • @mapleleafesl6162
      @mapleleafesl6162  8 років тому +2

      Yes, but you usually fall back on 'something'. For instance, if I want to become an actor and I try for many years without success, then I might have to fall back on another skill in order to make a living. So If I have carpentry experience, I might give up acting and fall back on carpentry. This means I will use my secondary skill because my first choice didn't work out successfully.

      Maple Leaf ESL that's exactly what he said so i don't see any contradiction between you and the teacher would you please give some kinda explanation of what you trying to say. Because what you just said didn't make any sense. I'm sorry for my inflammatory comments but this is the reality whether you like it or not who cares!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Andrew, You are such an amazing teacher. I need your help to understand one of the expressions with fall "fall back on". Can i use it when a primary server stops working and we need to switch the entire data on backup server. Can i say the primary server has gone down so we need to fall back on secondary server.

    • @mapleleafesl6162

    Hi, teacher Andrew!
    I liked this video, so fall apart and break up have the same meaning?

    • @mapleleafesl6162
      @mapleleafesl6162  5 років тому +1

      Hello there. To answer your question, not quite. Fall apart sounds like it wasn't on purpose. Break up sounds intentional. For instance, 'our relationship fell apart' but 'we broke up'.

    Hi Andrew ..warm regards from Nepal.
    In your earlier video with throw phrasal verb we learnt throw back means falling behind due to any reason e.g. sickness
    So can we use throw back and fall behind as interchangeably
    I threw back in my career for almost a year
    I fell behind in my career for almost a year
    And also
    With almost a year
    Or
    For almost a year???

    • @mapleleafesl6162
      @mapleleafesl6162  4 роки тому

      Only 'fell behind' works in your sentences above. And I would use 'by' almost a year.

    4:03 What a coincidence! Adam gave the same example, just a year ago! ;-)

    • @mapleleafesl6162
      @mapleleafesl6162  7 років тому +2

      Hi aredas. Who's Adam? And which example are you referring to?

    • @milaim
      @milaim 7 років тому +2

      +Maple Leaf ESL: 4:03 indicates the moment when you speak about "fall back".
      Adam is an English teacher from EngVid ua-cam.com/video/FV_wz5yyi2Q/v-deo.htmlm43s
      (The video is in the list of videos recommended by UA-cam, based on the title: Phrasal verbs with FALL)
