    Try what I did: live in Florida! The warm temperatures have made my koi grow from 2.5" last April to now a whopping 9" to 11" after just one summer. Frequent high-quality food, frequent addition of water (usually from rain but by hose during dry periods) bog filtration (lots of plants).

    Hello Adam,
    I started to watch your videos around 6 months ago, towards the end of last summer 2017. I have to say your videos are amongst the most informative on the internet regarding Koi. Well done and congratulations!!
    I have a couple of questions regarding rearing (if that is the correct word) Koi. In your opinion what is more important:
    A) Pond depth or surface area?
    C) How much K1 should be placed in a biological filter (I have a diy one that has a 50 gallon volume) + 2 of the same volume for the mechanical filtration (K1 based). The final part of the filtration also comprises a bog filter/veggie filter based on alphagrog and water plants
    D) I have been informed that as long as my biological filtration has sufficient capacity, the water turnover rate can be as low as pond volume through the biological filter in 4 hours. What is your opinion
    E) Are you a Koi dealer. If so, what company
    Kind regards
    Alex

    hi again Adam. top video. found this 1 to be 1 of your best vids as your hit the nail on the head with the info I was after. so your main pond during the summer you would only do 10% water change a week??

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  8 років тому +1

      Hi, Thanks for the comment. When the fish are spawning i have it around 25% per week but the rest of the time its 10-15% it really depends on the size of the tank and the amount of fish 15% of 41,000litre is 6000Litre per week so its quite a lot of water. My small QT tank holds 1,500litre and gets 2,000Litre per week which is 20% per day. I am on water meter so i try to only use what i need if i was not on a meter it would flow a lot faster.

  • @johnblaze5235
    @johnblaze5235 6 років тому

    Thanks Adam , we do have this filtration system, is very costly, but works great. though we had some problems in the beginning the sieve kept on tearing but got it sorted.
    the problem is the we have a clear view window from inside the house, it is a bit challenging to clean, we try to use squeegee but around the corners, the algae grows little bit on the glass, after cleaning, there will still be some foggy looking kind of, but the center will be clean. you cant reach with hands as it is a deep pond, and the glass is at the passage center so its a bit tricky.
    any suggestion how to get algae out of the glass where it is not reachable? thanks in advance

    Strange this one I have a very old pond 20 years at least with 3 GIN MATSUBA 16" approx. in it.
    It’s around 1000 gal and 3 feet deep but needs massive attention so much so that I need to build a new
    one. I got a keep net and moved my fry into this old pond 4 days ago. Today I noticed around 6 fry about 1/2 “ in size swimming in the pond they must of jumped out as I was putting them in the keep net I watched them for half an hour and the strange
    thing was the big koi just swam past them and seemed to take no notice of them
    I thought they would have been eaten.

  • @toughmanrandysavage3077
    @toughmanrandysavage3077 5 років тому +1

    You know any way to keep them small. I bought 6 koi from Wal-Mart they were all extremely sick, fins completely missing, foggy eyes, swim bladder issues. I was able to save all 6 of them with medication and 3 salt dips a week for 3 weeks. They are now very healthy and they all have grown about 3 inches. I have them in a 40 gallon tank I figured I would have AT LEAST a year until they would outgrow the tank bit they have pretty much out grown it in a month.
