haha for a moment I thought that window was the tank. I was like holy man that's a tiny tank for those big fish, then it panned back a bit and I seen it was quite and large pond lol.
Thanks for putting this vid up Adam, another really interesting subject. It's the first time I've seen your fish so close up - they look in fantastic shape and clearly love those treats. The comment about them only getting prawns at Christmas when you get prawns made me laugh :-) Regards, M
I give my fish much more pallets. Flakes for the goldfish.. I see some eat all the food of others in your pond..that big orange one haha . Mine like tialpa, worms and chicken weirdly enough. The worms i buy from the biofarm they are for composting your soil veggiegardens and i breed them..so they truly waiting for these worms..bloodworms makes them fiesty.. you truly have amazing set up bud. Your filtration system must be out this world for the amount of food your feeding and the size of your koi. Amazing pond love the window well done. Cheers for the tips i'm doing koi fry right now Kohaku and Sanke mix. I need to make a youtube channel for that.
Great Koi food ideas. In NYC we have a number of Chinatowns and one can get dried baby salt water shrimp at a low price, great for koi though I rinse them because they are often salted heavily.I'm surprised you didn't include earthworms.Koi and most other fish love them and there not hard to find or cultivate.I did not feed my koi the amount of fruit and vegetables that you do and I think this was a mistake.Have you tried Mullberries and other fruits as well?Wild Carp love a variety of fruits like oranges, cantelope, strawberries and raspberries to name a few.I have fed squid which is cheap and contains 50%protein when it fresh and moist to many fish but never koi.Do you have any experience with squid as food for koi?Any info would be appreciated.I enjoyed your presentation a lot.
Your koi are so beautiful. I have three in a pond and am new to this but they’re growing so so fast that I’m already going thinking of having a bigger pond. Also I have live wax worms for a couple of geckos I have and thought they might make a nice treat but you said not to give live food due to bugs etc - these wax worms are indigenous to the UK and bred in captive clean conditions so I’m wondering if I can give them as an occasional treat. Also I meant to add - thanks so much for sharing your expertise and the treats these gorgeous fish can have. One of mine takes food from anyone, a smaller one does now too so I’m just trying to tempt koi number three and actually have mussels in the freezer for a puffer fish. Looks like they’ll be getting some mussels tomorrow now. 😉
Do you do anything to the mussels or prawns before feeding them to the fish ? or buy frozen, defrost, and feed ? great video ! i want to give my babies a more varied diet as well
You should throw the food in different areas so the smaller fish that hang around the outside get a chance to get some! If you always throw in the middle only the strongest fish are getting fed, I imagine.. :)
Isn't your tank too crowded? Thanks for the info... will defintely try oranges watermelons and other fruit as I think the pellets I am going them aren't nutritious enough. Will also dig for worms!

wow I just love the colors you have there that's AWESOME, what's the BIGGEST one you have in there & the type of koi & do you ever have to change the filter & water out?
Many koi keepers don’t like introducing anything but their standard koi food because of possible bacteria contamination. Do you ever worry or ever had an issue?
I do worry about that just not with cooked food. But i do give them cabbage and stuff like that which was grown in a field and probably sprayed with water from a local river so could carry all sorts and i have microscope a cabbage before and found some interesting things so before i put one in i will microwave it so its really hot and hopefully kills any unwanted things.
glad ive came across this video i will be trying mine on muscles now. mine are not even close to the size of these but i hope they will eat the muscles want them to hand feed.

Great pond! Expensive to build for sure, but How much does it cost to run it? What is the key element u think the water is so clear? Another thing is that the fish color is not as vibrant as some of the outdoor kept koi, still an amazing pond!
Some of the koi are old and the water is hot which dulls colours in winter the colour of the fish is spot on. That is why koi shows are done in winter because the fish look better and dont have eggs. The water is clear because it does not have a lot of sun light but also because of the filtration the drum filters and biological river are really good at cleaning the water of particles and chemicals. it cost around £150 per month for water and electric. any problems with seeds from Oranges getting stuck in the fish?
Not that i have seen. I have seen fish pick the seed out and drop it but no issues with them. all the seeds usually end up in the filter.
