    I’ve watch most of your Videos the good for teaching roofers/ builder the skills involved in lead, cheers.
    Could you do a video explaining the process and how to weld up a back gutter on a chimney?

    nice to see a proper job👍 did the odd church and chapel roof back in the 'eighties, could have done with a 'leftie' to dress the flashing on the right hand gable ends! Forever bashing myself instead of the lead. Stefan

    Never seen lead hips done before. I have seen them on some of the old roofs. But didn't know the process of installing them. We always did ours with a tile hip and ridge. Often hip and ridge cap as we slated so you could walk up and stand on the battens. If we had to we would use lay ladders. But you can rack slates out in most cases and cap in sections. Then lay out another span of slates and do the next cap. The lead looks good. Be nicer with colour. We can get a lead substitute product here. Not sure it would be heavy enough gauge for exposed hips. But it comes in some cool colours. A nice red up there would look great.

      There’s a lot of work that goes into these and a lot of climbing around.
      I do think it looks goof though quite enjoy doing them too.

    I see that you also use a MAP gas torch. Is it possible to fit a nozzle to these that would be ok for welding lead? The three nozzles that came with my torch all seem to throw a flame that is too large.

    • @slbleadworks
      @slbleadworks  Рік тому

      I think you can buy some complete welding kits that use map gas. They come with a model o torch too.

    Thank you for another great insight on how to do it correctly! I have one question... what happens when you break slates when you are installing the lead ? Do you state in your pricing !any broken slates broken by you are to be fixed by others ?

    • @slbleadworks
      @slbleadworks  Рік тому

      I’m doing this job on behalf of a roofing company as a sub contractor. So any broken slates they will replace when they finish slating the roof.

    • @rickphillips5098
      @rickphillips5098 Рік тому

      @@slbleadworks this is from a roofers point off veiw! Could you fit the lead before the roof is slated, where the lead is upright so the tilers can do there bit ! So afterwards you would only have to dress lead down as to lessen the chance off slates being broken as less time spent on slate roof! I ask because there is nothing worse than repairing slates on a new roof ..

    • @slbleadworks
      @slbleadworks  Рік тому

      @@rickphillips5098 yes you could. But the roofers didn’t call me in until the roof was slated. It would be easier for me too if this was done beforehand. But in 28 years this has never happened.

      @@slbleadworks sorry I've just thought about this !! You come in last then scaffolding is dropped! The lead would get stolen .. less chance now as scrap is payed by bank transfer..

      Thank you. You can get it from most roofing suppliers. Sometimes you can pick it up from eBay too. Just do a Google search and see what you come back with.
