For the deal they are giving (199 a month lease with 999 due at signing) this would by no means be a bad vehicle to lease especially if you drive less than 70 miles a day. However, leasing this vehicle for me wouldn't have been an option because I drive about 14k a year, if they had something like a 14-15k mile lease I would have highly considered it. Never buy gas for 2-3 years? I like that idea!
True. If you're really worried about sometimes needing to go far then you can pick up a cheap used car like a Civic after getting an EV for going places your EV can't.
I have long been a fan of FIAT cars since high school, and am happy to see the FIAT brand back in America, and proud, moreover to be an Italian car enthusiast because of FIAT. I think that this is a really good take on an EV. However, my only criticism is the app; it's not available for WP8. I can't say too much about it's driving since I don't live in California.
4:00 Thermal Management System, not even a Tesla has that, keeps the range constant and protects the battery in the hot and the cold. That is worth getting the over the competition alone!!!
Yeah great car still using it daily for 6 years now. Only a software glitch i had but thats it and the normal stuff that needs to be fix. For the rest nothing. Fun car.
Just wondering what happens to the EV after it hits 100,000 + miles. Will the batteries still be good or will you need to pay thousands of dollars to replace them
this guy is very wrong you will never be worried about your range if your getting an ev you have to plan out everything before hand, and you should certainly be able to afford more than 1 car because that would be stupid if a 90 mile range ev was your only car, even going to the furthest places for me in a day that would probably be around a 50 mile trip, and thats rare, so an ev would perfect for most people
Such is the reality of current battery tech: a massive battery can equivalent to less than a single gallon! Except for the latest EVs which have an adequate range basically through sheer brute force (i.e., sticking as many batteries in the car as they possibly can), batteries are still the primary issue holding EVs back in my view. Hopefully as they continue to pick up market share manufacturers will invest in battery advances.
I feel like if anybody wants to make a sporty EV they should just add a tiny little engine, like sub 1ltr, just to recharge the batteries when needed, might sound like irony but in that configuration petrol can turn extremely efficient in an equivalent mpg rating
Why don't EV's have a hood scoop with two alternators under the hood being spun by airflow and charging the batteries while you drive?.Not to mention a solar panel sunroof to keep up the charge and therefore creating a self charging Electric car. It's easy to do but there is no money in free driving I guess.
1. A wind turbine would add drag and slow the car down, more drag than the power recovered. 2. Solar panels would only generate a very small amount of electricity, better suited to powering the radio and accessories. Solar race cars are still very slow and run on very little power (many simply stop when there is too much cloud cover), despite having the latest solar tech and being extremely lightweight and efficient... far more efficient than this 500e. assets.inhabitat.com/files/tokai-solar-ed02.jpg
Perpetual motion does not exist. The extra weight of the generator, and the drag of the wind resistance wood be greater than the energy captured by the generator. Energy cannot be created nor destroyed. You cannot simply pull energy from the air. It's not how it works.
Electric cars seem like a car"ahead of their time" and with that i mean it came out too fast, before the technology was ready. Hard to look to the future when these electrics cant compare to cars from this century. The electric motor is a great motor and has enormous promise, but in this rush to make a buck; seems like these cars are not ready for the prime time. Range should never be compared to a golf cart, even when the car is smaller than a cart like in this case.
$7500 tax credit is a scam. You only get it if you make over $75,000 a year with taxes. You could buy a car with that budget, and no, i do not think this 500 qualifies as a car. But since so few people buy a 500 anyway, because you usually test drive before buy: it will be exclusive. I want to make a website dedicated to pictures of EV's stuck on the side of the road. Comedy for gear heads
Mr Cooley is the man!!

the wheels are NOT ugly
Probably gonna buy one this upcoming year!

a trick: you can watch movies on kaldroStream. Been using it for watching all kinds of movies recently.
@Noe Ulises Definitely, been watching on kaldroStream for since november myself =)
@Noe Ulises yea, I've been using kaldrostream for since november myself :D

Great review Mr. Cooley!'
Great video, again!
In California, there are so many people with Fiat 500s, it is ridiculous.
i disagree completely that there is no price penalty on this car - that's pure nonsense. on the other hand free gas powered car rental is pure genius.
I'm going to test drive one and possibly lease it this weekend :)
did you purchase this little gem ?
Yep. The lease is actually up this upcoming December ('16). It's been a wonderful car!
+bnguy15 what car is next for you how bout chevy bolt
Great suggestion, not sure if it'll be release in time though. 200 miles of range is great.
How do I get a rental car through fiat
4:00 Thermal Management System, not even a Tesla has that, keeps the range constant and protects the battery in the hot and the cold. That is worth getting the over the competition alone!!!
$22,500 for an electric car? That's not too bad
Yeah great car still using it daily for 6 years now. Only a software glitch i had but thats it and the normal stuff that needs to be fix. For the rest nothing. Fun car.

It is a re-upload, because they got the torque figure wrong.
The price is very good for an electric car. Now I want a 500e.
doesn't mention the torques immense pull on launch
But he misses THE MOST IMPORTANT PART... how many miles does he get out of the charge...
PETER MAINWALD around 87 miles
PETER MAINWALD YOU missed it.. he says 87 miles of range at 5:03
87, rated 84 later, more like 55 if mostly freeway speed
this guy is very wrong you will never be worried about your range if your getting an ev you have to plan out everything before hand, and you should certainly be able to afford more than 1 car because that would be stupid if a 90 mile range ev was your only car, even going to the furthest places for me in a day that would probably be around a 50 mile trip, and thats rare, so an ev would perfect for most people
Or know where I'm going, know where how much range I have and nowhere chargers are
Hi. One question: how can I set the Italian language on my 500e? Thank you
so 90 miles isnt enough for daily commutes?
S3 XY its enough for a daily commute
55 & yes
@Mr Cars Apparently
Ok CNET please give me the name of the song at the intro. Thanks
I love this guy, funny!!!!
6:27 smart car
for a very small car it looks good
Why is there no penalty? Or no re up time?
Why would it need to be uploaded again?
correction: "its" as opposed to "it's."
It’s crazy they claim 107 mpg equivalent but runs out at 87 miles lol
Such is the reality of current battery tech: a massive battery can equivalent to less than a single gallon!

@www9311 Yeah buddy!
They fixed the torque typo...
Why can't the black/red or black/orange color combo be available on a regular 500
It needs 2 much electric power
Cooley is always first.
I see!
What I notice with most electric cars is that they make them look ugly such as this, the nisson leafs and others.
COOLEY DA MAN!
I feel like if anybody wants to make a sporty EV they should just add a tiny little engine, like sub 1ltr, just to recharge the batteries when needed, might sound like irony but in that configuration petrol can turn extremely efficient in an equivalent mpg rating
***** Yeah, check out the Chevrolet Volt/Opel Ampera, BMW i3, BMW i8 and Fisker Karma. They all have that.
ballbeam I meant in a small car, but yeah BMW i3 counts
***** The i3 is pretty tiny. I think it would be good in the Fiat as well, but ultimately 100% electric is the way to go
+sadman hoque The i3 engine only gets 40mpg in gasoline mode. Not that efficient. (Prius and Civic Hybrids get 50 mpg.)
.
electrictroy2010
I mean there's no gasoline mode, engine only charges the batteries like the fisker
I'm going to start walking down Clementina Street. Possibly see a review in the making.
Did you get lucky so far?
I have love hate relationship with ev's. Love not depending on gas, hate the range.
Жаль перевода нет.
Oh, ok :)

The question that should be asked is, why dont EV's have shocks that generate power when the car goes over bumps in the road?
Ooh! Thought provoking!
Perpetual motion does not exist. The extra weight of the generator, and the drag of the wind resistance wood be greater than the energy captured by the generator. Energy cannot be created nor destroyed. You cannot simply pull energy from the air. It's not how it works.
michael foley why don’t you start your own car company if you know better.

Моделька старая.
Давайте новый обзор и по больше технической информации.
Gah, thoose wheels look tiny!!
It looks like a Fiat.
love this guy (no homo)
Same. No homo.
poor Americans with your 120VAC wall plugs :P 24 hours on 120VAC :P

if you're that kind of geek LOL
Sec
Buy a Tesla in 5-10 years.
It's a poor attempt of looking "futuristic."
this car looks OK from the outside, but looks like a toilet on the inside.
It would be nice that cars can be electrical, but the problems is that this is an ugly car. I dont know what people see in this car.
