- Опубліковано 23 лис 2024
- On today's episode of Rigged, we went backstage to talk to the guys in Animals As Leaders! Tosin Abasi, Javier Reyes, and Matt Garstka all take us through their live rigs (from memory, nonetheless!) and show us the goods that go into making them sound so massive in a live setting.

"For extra djent, or whatever" hahahhaha
You know it's good djent when even the drummer tunes down
Sorry to be offtopic but does someone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account?
I was stupid forgot the password. I love any assistance you can give me.
@Caiden Angel Instablaster =)
@Maxton Jaziel I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm trying it out atm.
Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Maxton Jaziel it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my account !
@Caiden Angel Glad I could help :D
8:06 "The Axe Effects 3 is f-... Mind-blowing."
but I don't use it !!!
A little bumped that Javier's segment only took 2 minutes :(
Really wanted to get a little more in depth with his gear
Maybe because there's way less gear than in Tosin's segment since his into pedals now and Javier stays with Axe Fx and there isn't a lot to say about it unless he explains his presets which would e way too long. However, it felt like it was too fast.
Agreed. If you do want a detailed rundown of Javier's stuff though, check his rig rundown on premier guitar's channel. A bit more detailed than here and pretty much the same gear too
Theres other gear reviews with him on here that are way longer
@@Bob-ex6uh right... He just gives simple answers a lot. Love it.
I know that 8 string strat looks beautiful 😍
1:06 Jeez, that's another level of Strandberg!
1:28 "for just extra DjEnT "
Tosin's slap at 5:58 sent a blast and hit the camera lml
The esp strat is so sickkkkk!
Tosin needs to get on That Pedal Show and get his board cleaned up!
Christopher Marsh exact same thought ha
Who is next calling Daniel?
Morgan Friedman, hmmmm that's why Tosin sounds so glorious.
Hahaha I though I was the only one who noticed that
Lol that’s a good line
but where do I buy thumbs like Tosin has??
Craigslist
Black market.
@@dwellerinblack7816 is that where you dwell? Also the supermarket. They sell bananas for real cheap.
@@lasagnasux4934 black market bananas usually have HIV infected blood injected in them, so the supermarket is a good alternative.
Yeah dude fr
Tosin seems like the nicest guy ever.
yehspuhr He was on Dragonforce’s guitarist’s Twitch stream, and that was super entertaining. You get a better feel at who Tosin is from that stream.
@@ThyAsianMan Will check it out. I recently saw him on "Coffee with Ola" and got the same impression.
I talked to him at his last concert, definitely the nicest guy ever!
I got to meet Javier a few months ago and he was super nice too
yeah he smokes a lot of weed
05:59 "A certain _kick_ out of their amps." I think he scared the camera there. XD
Not enough on-screen time for Javier :(
He's setup is just the simplest, there's no really need to explain much
Tosin uses Dunlop Primetone picks.
I use Dunlop Tosin Abasi Jazz 3 Tortex picks.
Guess it's time to upgrade 🤣
i use the dunlop big stubby 2mm jazz picks. but my local guitar has been out about two weeks now! i might have change picks...
@@enigma-g5549 lol idk why you had to tell us that, basic bitch picks
@@enigma-g5549 I just can't get along with those big picks. Feels like it's not precise enough, kinda clumsy.
Primetone Jazz III's are the bomb. Like Ultex but hand burnished edges and dark color so i don't lose them in my carpet, lol
@@TheJasonEstes na bro I use Winspear Fountainhead picks. Superior grip because they are knurled and the pick is tapered from 2mm to 1mm at the tip so it locks and sits in your hand way better than a jazz 3. Winspear is the big ah ha moment with picks I love ultex jazz 3's but Winspear Fountainhead Picks shit all over them. Winspear was a complete life changer.
Always expecting Matt to crack a joke, then he doesn't...
he cracks all kinds of jokes; they're just super dry and subtle.
I DONT KNOW JACK ABOUT DRUMS MUFUFUFUFUF
on the real, put some respek on abasi's name for choosing to run a pedal board as opposed to an Axe FX. like that to me is just old school cool and shows he really has a passion for understanding his tone.
I just caught them live at Irving Plaza and got the vip meet and greet, best live experience by far. Not exaggerating
yeah i kinda miss them when they weren't so big. back when they started off they played a show at a dive bar in Charleston and i got to meet them cause they were just walking around the bar before and after the show. Javier let me mess around on his 8 string and him and navine were just on the patio chilling. one of the best shows of my life
Can’t wait for the next album!! I got to see the show at the Mayan and it was fantastic
Javier looks like a latin version of Q from impractical jokers
Tosin's 1980s dad glasses made my day :)
Lol my dad wore those from the day they became popular thru the 80s, 90s, 00s, until he passed when I was 18 in 2008.
@@michaelinglis8516 sad story :(
@@michaelinglis8516 Your dad was a legend!
@@deadeyes2803 Lol it kinda was wasnt it. Not my intention.
@@WaveringRadiant00 Lol true, the mayor of dallas and fort worth were at his funeral. Its only sad when someone dies if they lived a wasted life.
With Axe FX rundowns, can we please please get a more in depth rundown of patches etc. It really is a shame that we don't get more in depth details on tone just because people use processors.
On that note, please do a VOLA rig rundown.
Magicians dont reveal their secrets.
@@jordankelsomusic some do.
Under, under, super under rated - out of this galaxy talented band imo.
These guys are insane live. Saw them live for the first time on Tuesday and I still can't believe what I witnessed
Tosin he is freaking savage Talking to us about his gear and his guitar
"That thing is solid as fuck!" - M. Garstka
Stoked about signature hi-hat!!
Me too man
Javier got ROBBED. Straight blue balls on his rig rundown....tell me more
Andrew Sutton he didn’t really get robbed so
Much as it seems he just didn’t talk about it much. From what I’ve seen he’s kinda accepted that he’s “tosin abasis second guitar player” despite the fact that he’s amazing. Also with an ax effects, unless he went into every single tone he has, it’s really hard to go further into. With tosin, he uses everything in different combinations, so he can just say the puzzle pieces without having to go into every perturbation that he likes.
Javier’s beard is on fleek.
I'm a dumb drummer so I skipped over to 11:16! 🤪
Same here
I’m so happy this channel exists. It’s entertaining and informative.
Oh boy i can't wait for those signature hats to come out. They look like a mixture between the Sand series and the Dark Series. They're have the dryness of the sand series, but the richness of the dark series. Ooooh boy I will buy those
The Contortionist next ? :-)
There's already an episode of The Contortionist Rigged on Gear Gods from a while back. Not much has changed in their rig bar the addition of 6 strings and some pedals as far as I know.
ua-cam.com/video/RHKw1Hclh1M/v-deo.html
I think tosin should try out a soundbrenner pulse, since it can run midi through bluetooth, he could get rid of the IEM
Javiers single coil LTD looks so cool
Seeing these guys tomorrow in Columbus. Cant wait!!!
Can't wait to see them live next week!
Every time Tosin makes one of these, I spend a lot more on gear.
Lol.
The intro graphic says 'Quality Control' instead of 'Rigged' hahaha. Cool video nonetheless!!
whooooopsssss too late to fix that one hahahaha
im kind of confused by the extra fret thing, like if he's tuning E B E A D G B E, would fret one (F) now be awkwardly behind the nut? could someone explain
You tune it one step down on that string like drop D, then put a capo a step up on that string
5:41 Poppy Harlow?
Gloria Borger
Who the hell goes thumbs down on AAL?!
People who don't like AAL.
Old-school blues guys who think pentatonics and bends makes you a great guitar player
People who can't bend their thumbs past 90°
God bless you all❤
Awesome gears and Guitars😍
0:00-11:16 - What you are came for.
11:16-20:26 - Drums
Vadim Raitses I came for and from those drums
Camell I came here for all 3 and i’m primarily a drummer
Aye fuck you too.
Drum part is most interesting to be honest. wooo axefx n random pedals like every other gear vid fun right?
Is it just me or does literally every musician love telling people about what gear they have lmao. This includes me.
JUST SAW THEM LIVE LAST NIGHT IN ATLANTA AZBSOLUTELY AMAZING..
Daniel the Gig Rig guy needs to get ahold of Tosin's pedalboard....
matt carried this. appreciate his set up
poor misha. Tosin just glossed over the precision drive.
😢
Imagining having so much money that you can just get a whole fractal for your acoustic clean tone. That’d be amazing
If you are from Atlanta, you will know what I mean, but there is an accent that people from Atlanta have when they aren't southern sounding, and Tosin has it. I feel like I've met him and had conversations with him and I couldn't figure out why. Now I know. ATL boy.
That's funny cuz I had the same thought about John Petrucci when I first listened to a long interview with him. I was like "why does this guy sound SO FAMILIAR??" but then when he said he was from Long Island, New York I realized he sounds EXACTLY like my Uncle Mike lol. Like not just the accent but even the timbre of his voice is the same -tripped me out haha
i have the fishman tosin 6 sig pickups in my grote headless. i plan on getting a strandberg classic 8 and the tosin 8s pickups.
On the 2017 Premier Guitar rig rundown Tosin Abasi has the same rig minus the Bogner Amp that is used around the back of stage for monitoring but on his pedal-board instead of the Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor, he was using an ISP Technologies Decimator II G - String Pedal. Anyone know why he switched to using the Boss instead?
I wonder why Tosin isn't an axe FX guy anymore...
It's called getting old lol
To release and sell pedals
@@abcrx32j He can use pedals with the axe fx...
Paulius Mscichauskas Those Morgan’s are some high quality amps dude.
Tosin uses the ns2 that’s freakin lit 🔥
Yeah. More pedals.
tosin should get a gigrig
Interesting to know that if you don’t need a bassist if you have two guitarists that both play 8-strings
A bassist can still definitely help in a live setting with 8 strings. Nolly from Periphery tends to work with these guys in the studio, and they use bass backing tracks live along with the synth backing.
If you tune to drop e you have all the notes of a 4 string Bass really
@@tobinwasabi true, but it lacks body, a bassist would fit live, but they use bass tracks so yeah
Definitely not the case, low pitch does not equate to low frequencies. They use the bass tracks on the backing tracks to fill that.
I’ve never listened to these guys but I guess bass on a backing track does make sense
tosins rig is amazing he has duplicate pedals for very different sound
Those custom ESPs....
I wonder if Tosin's looked into the Westone ambient in-ears with mild filters, like 12db or something for hearing protection. Might work better for him than using a regular IEM in one ear.
Trey, is there a place where I can listen to the intro/outro song in its entirety?
9:01 Daedric artifact
Extra frets are for no-drop drop, man! :D
Marie Kondo would be so mad at Tosins pedal board
Lmao 😂
8:37
That's a nice axe. One day I'll get a Larada when it becomes internationally affordable.
Super mega gear down 🤘🏽👌🏽🤘🏽
yes! Yes! and more YES!!!
FUCK YEAH!
AAL YEAAAAAAH
I'd like to know why Javier switched from the Schaller Hannes Bridge to the Hipshot Bridge. Any ideas, anyone?
Let's geek out a little! :)
Does Tosin really have his noise gate set up that way? That much of a threshold?
Watching this, I really realize my place as a gear mortal :(
Fuk YEAH!!!!!
5:40 what about the horizon devices pedal?
Tosin forgot the name of his Rick toone guitar :( it's called blur!
Constantly amazed at just the degree of complexity of gear and technologies in use by modern professional musicians.
6:00 kick out of the amps.... camera shakes!
What
Please tidy up your pedals Tosin 🤣
Tre Xavier? Lmao yea right 😂
Tre Xavier’s real name is Joel weckleman
I’m just trying to protect the identity of my parents, Joel Sr. and Isabella Weckleman so please respect their privacy
Gear Gods ha HAAAAAA 😂😂😂😂😂😂 touché, x
Man you don’t even interview the bass player....wakka wakka
MATT SIGNATURE HIHATS OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Nice video!
I want that strat
You should add a little bgm to these videos.
Where can I download Axe FX3? 😂
I take it I am the only one for a Second, to believe that Guitar came from a comet!!!
Anyone here have experience with that be-od? Is it really exceptional or is tosin just great through anything? I wasn't sure about the pedal when I tried it
Psyfonify it sounds good. Like a smoother Mesa duel rect
It’s good, but a bit mid scooped and more gain than I’d really want. The new BE seems to have fixed some of those issues
Friedman stuff is basically Marshall with more balls and a bit more controllable.
Great\,,/
Those huge hands...
Every time I get depressed about the state of modern rock/metal...hell music in general, I just think about guys like Tosin and it gives me hope. Real music, that is the pursuit of creating something for the purpose of resonating with other people isn't completly dead yet. And actually perfecting the art with years and years of practice all for the end goal of writing something that excite you to hear and know you wrote/played it. Your not a musician if your just mashing together samples. Sure if your playing drums or guitar with samples over it then that's real music and just another creative tool but man music is not what it used to be. But we have Animals as leaders. I guess it's more about quality then quantity. And I still find bands I like. I was late to the party and just discovered sunny day real estate which was awesome and tool finally put out their new record. Even new songwriters with real talent still exist like Phoebe Bridgers. Anyways, love these videos. I started playing guitar in the 90s after hearing Chuck Berry as a 6 year old in 96 and finding my calling(my dad was much older then most fathers and always played the classics on the weekends or at night). Then i learned to play by playing Nirvana(which taught me that if you really develop your artistic ideas you can make something great out of minimal skill but it still takes hard work) and when that got too easy I played increasingly more difficult songs over the years then started focusing on theory. I feel like I just read about theory for 10 years before it all started clicking, lol teaching yourself isn't all it's cracked up to be sometimes. I feel like kids don't have those bands to motivate them these days which will really hurt music in the future. But at least they have all the old stuff.
use a multiprocessor
Forgot to mention the apple computer who does 50% of their live show. Those electronics are pretty sick.
Hardly most of their show lol.
Tapdancer Tosin Abasi Lol

That rick thune guitar looks so awesome but the neck looks so flat and so unplayable
I know right?! Is look very unconfortable, but I guess its not because that guitar is supossed to be very ergonomic, at least for tosin since it was made to fit his torso
The neck is a completely flat plane of milled aluminum, it feels fucking bonkers. There's like a sensory illusion that it feels concave because of the fretboard radius but it's actually flat. It's incredibly weird to play but pretty comfy actually.
Here's some comments Rick Toone made about the Blur guitar back in 2012:
"Nick - Exoskeleton neck on Blur is completely flat on the back. There is a slight compound radius (12" to 16") to the fretboard. To your hand this neck feels slender...invisible...almost like fretting your iPhone.
"The overall thickness of the neck is a total of about 5/8" including: aircraft aluminum, fretboard, frets, AND strings. Consistent across the full width.
"Very thin.
"Zero fret necks (like Blur) perform just like a traditional guitar. Intonation is the same as a conventional guitar. This design is the best choice for Tosin because it allows the area around the extended range frets to be minimalist so he can work both sets of frets simultaneously.
"Also, he is doing more single note runs than chord work.
"In contrast, the intonation adjustable nut provides piano-like clarity to chords. The ability to dial in intonation from both ends of the string is no small thing. Any guitarist who is heavily playing chords will love the stunning separation of the intervals - you can listen deeply into the mathematical ratios between pitches." (web.archive.org/web/20150410105505/www.ricktoone.com/2012/02/blur-8-string-extended-range-guitar.html?cid=6a00e39826b28988330163015e7655970d#comment-6a00e39826b28988330163015e7655970d)
It can't be that bad or he wouldn't still be touring with it after seven years...
Brown eye sound
Anybody else notice how the gear gods intro music doesn't have that good of a tone
Tosin been spending time in NM ?? " All SICK !!" haha
