He made the whole episode looked so easy. People, this hobby is extremely hard, when tinkering with 1/72 scale or even smaller. As I got older, and have a bit more money, I settle for huge projects like 1/32 scale, or even bigger still. Tanks, planes, trains, and automobiles are super fun. For some reasons, I struggled with boats and ships. Love the sailing ships, but assembling them is a nightmare.
Nice job... Your build caught my eye just passing through UA-cam. My father was a gunner on an Avenger in WW II. He was on the USS Tulagi. It was an escort carrier and he saw action in the European theater (No. Africa) and in the Pacific. I built one for my son last year....1/72 scale... but yours outshined mine... Take care 🙂
What an amazing story. Thank you for sharing! And I haven't dipped my toe in 1/72. Scale but I'm glad other modelers are! Thank you for watching and model on!!
Yes my husband built this kit when it first appeared. Surprisingly he still has the figures. There were four. Pilot holding stick, gunner, running radio man/navigator and deck controller with paddles. Pity you didn’t use the crew in the model. Monogram did do exceptional figures for their models and good figures add scale.
Very nicely done ! Nice to see a younger Modeler show that it doesn't take a lot of work to make an old kit shine . Looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us next 👍
Gee I was building this in the 60’s when Monogram first released it. Nice model but what a 1/48 series we had.. Great figures. The running navigator especially. Nice build. Nice memories.. Thank you. 👵🇦🇺🇺🇸
Love your attitude. Nice easy techniques that anyone can replicate. As for Mission Model Paints, I experienced the same issues of it peeling off no matter how long the dry time, over primer paint or on plastic, over coat or no overcoat… I’ve stopped using them.
This was my first MONOGRAM kit in 1970… I built all kinds of MONOGRAM kits F4F Wildcat, SBD Dauntless Zero, F6F Hellcat, MONOGRAM was state of art models back in the day… All the moving parts were cool But, we played with them and BROKE them… Thank goodness they weren’t that expensive though… I still like building the old kits 🤓CHRIS 🇺🇸
Is always been about the builder. If you are happy with the build, then that is all that matters. Who care about what others think. If they don’t like it, they can build their own.
I'm really enjoying your work. You talk and explain things very well and I love the subjects that you build. I really appreciate all your hard work. Thanks
Looks very nice! Yes, I built it with the folding wings and it was a huge pain in the A$$ to get it to work, and looked gimmy and whimsicle when finished. A coupld of things I noticed about your build, 1) the decals you sellected were for the Anti-sub squadron and they were painted Dark ghost gray light ghost gray and white bottoms. 2) the two-tone blue scheme actually had white bottoms not light gray. But we build to satisfy our crave of modeling and its all about having fun, so, can't really complain since you did a fantastic job on the build otherwise. Thanks for sharing!
Ohh man I know that white came out a lot darker than I wanted. I actually did paint it white but because of all the preshading and paneling I did it came out way too dark!! But I built this kit next to the academy one and didn't want to spend too much time on it to be honest. Since I'm building a collection I figured I would just knock it out ad much as I could. Thanks for watching and keep the comments up it helps me so much thank you!
Very nice work! I like your enthusiasm, you seem like you are having a good time which is what it’s all about. You are right, the best way to enjoy these older kits is to just build them straight out of the box. I find that Mission Model Paint is really fragile unless you use the poly additive that Mission sells. It gives the paint a kind of egg shell finish. To be honest I just use Vallejo or AK Real color now and avoid the struggles. Looking forward to checking out the rest of your videos. I really like the Monogram classics.
Thanks man! Thanks for the tips on the mission models paints, yeahh im on the same page I like sticking to what I trust and what works. Also if your liking the old monogram kits stay tuned. Right now I'm working on the 1/48 Revell Catalina.
They were detailed enough for a 10 year old in the early 70's. Really just toys you had to puy together. Tbm and dauntless where my favorites. P51b too
Do you use primer from Vallejo or just ordinary black color? Because all water base colors are more fragile than lacquer colors and you cannot sand them. Water base colors make thin “rubbery” layer. I had problems with pealing even with Vallejo, when I do not use proper base.
Nice job, but one slight correction at 0:12. That would be George H.W. Bush’s version, not George W. Bush. George W. Bush did fly F-102 Delta Daggers if you want to build one of those (hint hint)! 😉
Great job on an old kit. Too bad you omitted the pilot and gunner. That lack of cockpit interior would of been filled by their inclusion. Cool seeing both schemes. Bill
Hello mr.resmo!its a pitty that i only can give 1thumb up.your work definetly deseves at least 2thumbs up.and i would give them to you.but i sadly cant.with steady sticky greetings. Christian

These were fun kits...I loved the working features. I was 12. Didn't need gloves, didn't need a sound track

Thanks! And heck yes I'm almost done with these revell removed monogram kits. So I can get into more detailed builds!

Very cool!

As for Mission Model Paints, I experienced the same issues of it peeling off no matter how long the dry time, over primer paint or on plastic, over coat or no overcoat… I’ve stopped using them.
Using their poly additive has fixed all the issues I had with them as well as with vallejo paints
Fun nostalgic build, first issued way back in 1958.😊
This was my first MONOGRAM

Thank goodness they weren’t that expensive though…

That's exactly what I think! And hey some builds just don't come out exactly how you want them to but they are all still good memories!!
I'm really enjoying your work. You talk and explain things very well and I love the subjects that you build. I really appreciate all your hard work. Thanks
I agree. Many YT model channels don't narrate...I don't watch. You explain things well.
Thank you very much!

I use parafilm on canopies. Works great and fairly quick. These old Monogram kits are fun. I built my first one about 1973.
I'm going to have to look up the paradigm thanks for the tip!

Nice. I have the re issued navy blue kit with the classic box art. Thanks for the video. Goes to show that old kits still have it!
Yessir!!

I always love Monograma kits. Why so much work pre-shading, marmored and staining?? and panneling if everything vanished under the paint coat

Yes I used the vellejo primer, and iv never had any luck sanding acrylic paint it just comes right off
Well done on the two builds!
Tha ks!

Dude!!! Yes. I love the Dagger and yes totally right I missed the H in the bushes lol. Thanks!! And yes it's on my list
For MMP you need to add their Intermix. I don’t think they have a hardener added to their paints. BTW, very nice work.
Thank you so much for the advice I'm going to get some and try it. I like their colors just not there mix right yet. Thanks so much!
Try MRP. Mission Models peels for me too. MRP does not, and is already thinned. The only downside is it's expensive.
MRP is on my list thanks mate!
Very nice build really enjoyed this video, thanks 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it! Model on!

Thanks man! I know I haven't done any figures yet. I guess I'm waiting until a diorama build. But thank you for watching and commenting!!

There were undetailed because they were made for kids not for immature rivet counters.
👏👏👏🤩
