    Once StarLink hardware is added to the Tesla vehicles so many opportunities are enabled: high bandwidth inference compute, real-time road condition update, traffic flow optimization, heat-maps, Grok availability in Teslas anywhere, bidirectional media distribution from anywhere to anywhere not to mention the impact on voice, text and data communication. T-Mobile is positioning itself for this future. And, sitting on top of all of this is Tesla developed revenue generating AI.

    Imagine what will happen to weather forecasting when all Tesla's can provide real-time temperature, solar radiation, barometric pressure, humidity and precipitation data to weather models. Then imagine other sensors that could be added to the suite and what that data is worth and what AI could do with it..

    I'm thinking that in a given time frame, lets say 5 years, the car computers will be so slow and energy inefficient vs. the new hardware that it's just not worth it to mess with them. Think of the CRAY supercomputer sitting in the Smithsonian that was bad ass in the day but is now crushed in every way by my laptop.

      Yes, that is a good point, especially as Elon Musk often mentioned energy consumption becoming the limiting factor for ai.

    Is there a means of running wired Ethernet over the NACS / SAE J3400 connector? Improving compute opportunities while charging (at home / incentive to use a given commercial charge point!?

    Why isn’t Tesla using the inference computer now? Even a little bit to show its functionality. Why promise later?

  • @zagabog
    @zagabog 6 днів тому

    Yes, absolutely, inference compute is the missing piece of the puzzle. The training in the big datacentres is only part of the picture. Alphabet also has very good inference technology, probably too early to rule them out.

    Getting hardware and software to work seamlessly in addition to their operating system has always been Apple’s superpower. And the fact that they are using Arm instead of NVDA is huge. Arm is much more energy efficient and Apple will eventually move the using large chips just like Tesla and NVDA.

    Samsung has the advantage that they actually are able to make their own chips, and not just design them being forced to outsource the production. Apple and Tesla cannot do that. I wonder if Samsung will actually take advantage of this or miss the boat.

    • @ericchang7759
      @ericchang7759 6 днів тому +4

      True, but making chips still require an OS. Samsung dropped their OS for Android and Intel/x86.

    • @cherubin7th
      @cherubin7th 6 днів тому +2

      @@ericchang7759 Apple's OS is basically just *BSD. Tesla uses Linux.

    • @ericchang7759
      @ericchang7759 6 днів тому

      @@cherubin7th true, but at the time Apple had used BSD, it was farther along and they adapted it for mainstream use according to their perspective. It was more polished. Android was much more of an uphill climb at that time. My main point here was that Samsung’s attempt to mimic what Apple did not work, and they had to drop their OS and backtrack to Android, which broke the chain in their effort to create a chip manufacturing/designing/hardware/OS vertical integration.

    I don't disagree but Data is why Super Computers are needed. Video data is much larger than text. It will be government that wants or needs the most compute. I think the US government spends 25% of GDP. So they have the money, your money to spend, and they will. But first it's the big companies that have piles of cash they don't know what to do with that can and will spend. The cost to compute is decreasing and as costs go down. demand increases. Scale also reduces cost and Nvidia is on a path to do this. The big shift ts going from text compute to video Tesla has a plan, Nvidia has a plan. If government could get it's head out of it's Butt it could make a plan to improve service while reducing cost. Once one Government does this a few others may follow but this will take time, a very, very long time. Companies proving hardware and software have a very long market cycle ahead of them.

    google makes their own pixel phone with their own chip in it. Microsoft has surface laptops they make and are now comming with qualcom arm processors, amd and intel hve launched chips with npu's on them. Tesla has the upperhand on everyone but Apple has not imo. An iphone is not better then say a samsung. sometimes they might be abit faster in a bechmark but they are still behind on how long they last on a full charge.

    I think you're wrong on NVDIA, and you're wrong on APPLE. NVIDIA, as you stated, makes the hardware and the software. The customer will have to adapt to NVIDIA more than the other way around. (They control their ecosystem)
    As you also said, Google owns the Android operating system. They are developing a (superior?) large language model. How many seconds do you think it will take Google to integrate those two systems into a unified whole? The actual phone doesn't matter. It's just the container. Apple's Open AI move makes me think of something GM would do. Go for a big name. Then hope that it somehow all works out. Apple has one thing going for them. An intensely loyal customer base, full stop. They are seriously exposed when it comes to manufacturing. As of Oct 2023, 95% of their manufacturing was still done in China. In the current environment, that seems pretty risky.

    IBM is vertically integrated and has been, alongside Apple and Tesla, a great investment for me since I started buying while Buffett was selling, back in 2018. I’m up to 6500 shares (my second largest holding after 12k Apple shares) and it’s delivered $153k in dividends and $310k of stock appreciation, so far. IBM is definitely a potential player in AI and in Quantum computing, which might be the key to truly unlocking machine intelligence.
