Rimac will never be even close considering the lack of knowledge and resources. Even during the concept phase they already have realized that their system won't be able to determine the shape of the car in front of it, so they made the decision to turn all other cars into cute little green and gray boxes. How is that more detailed than the Tesla's system? Not to mention the fact that the car itself doesn't have the superpower of top down view, and can't see what's in front of it if there's something in the way, so it won't be able to show three cars in a row. The big secret is that no one has the tech, ie self driving software to make any of these cars driverless. The first company to get the software down will probably be Tesla, then everyone else will license the software off of them, as it is so difficult to develop.
Building the car is the easy bit, the back office AI computing engine is the hard bit, just google how much Tesla has invested into Dojo, that’s the hard bit.

This must be very efficient for it to make sense to lose vertical space in the front for a second row of seats and luggage. It is good thinking to go for comfort and luxury, as most large companies will probably opt for small, cheap cars and will gain in volume in a crowded and very competitive market.

Prototypes based on Mobileye 's system are already capable of driving in city traffic. @EngineeringExplained has a video of such a vehicle called "Are Autonomous Cars Closer Than You Think?" from November 2022. So the development has been going on for many years. This is not Elon's wet dream.

For a taxi this concept is fine. A self owned car should ALWAYS have the option to self drive. Example: You are hiking in the woods with your kids. Something happens at home and you need to be back very very fast. At that moment you dont want to be dependent on AI to drive, that is a situation you want to be able to drive yourself as you can and will break traffic rules and take calculated risks to go the fastest possible without endangering yourself or your surroundings. There is an endless list of examples where the need of being able to drive yourself with disabled autosteer/autopilot may be required in the current stage of self driving ability of cars

hey guys, here is a solution for the engineers for matts suggestion of forward view. Just have a camera display the forward view on the screen, wide screen. It could also show rear or side view. Could be changed using an app on the customers phone. They could essentially people watch by clicking buttons on their phone and having the tv screen display different camera around the car. Would be fun.

I'm always surprised when reviewers are _astonished_ that robotaxis are planned to be less expensive than rideshares/taxi. Like IT'S THE WHOLE POINT. You're getting rid of the most expensive part of the service: the driver. Taxis are ridiculously expensive in the context of ditching your car to only use that when needed. Robotaxis need to be so cheap that they compete with car sharing services (like Zipcar, Exo, and Communauto) and car rental, which is entirely possible considering that the automated driving solves the problem of having cars sitting in parkings, unused. You should be able to make a 10-15km trip for $5-10, and a day-long 500km road trip for less than $100 (car doesn't need to stay with you all the time, just while you're traveling).

It is good thinking to go for comfort and luxury, as most large companies will probably opt for small, cheap cars and will gain in volume in a crowded and very competitive market.

People should realize that the maker or breaker of this service is actually the self-driving technology - which has not yet been perfected by any company. Everything else is secondary at best.
Where I live dozens of Waymo's driverless converted Jaguar iPaces are picking up paying passengers and ferrying them to their destinations all the time. So the technology is demonstrably working in the real world. Cruise's converted Chevy Bolts were doing the same until they were caught misleading regulators about about a secondary accident (human driver struck a pedestrian, then a Cruise car dragged the pedestrian).
Perfection isnt needed! The cars are never not looking in all directions, they always signal, they are smooth and predictable. They are already far, FAR better drivers than the 50% of human drivers that are worse than average, who are borderline distracted homicidal maniacs. As a pedestrian, cyclist, and driver there's no comparison what I prefer to be driving around me

There is a fundamental misunderstanding of how humans drive. The core component is the survival instinct and fear of death, which has not been yet able to be modeled into technology.

That's a concern. If you can't open the door without first adjusting your seat and reaching your destination, it poses a problem. In an urgent situation where you need to use the restroom and something goes wrong, being unable to exit the car could be a significant safety issue.

I like to drive my car and my cars have mostly been manual transmission which is a huge part of the experience for me. I bet there’s a lot of people that would like a more affordable vehicle that has less tech. Just a radio, a powerful engine, good brakes and a gear shifter.

Prototypes based on Mobileye 's system are already capable of driving in city traffic. @EngineeringExplained has a video of such a vehicle called "Are Autonomous Cars Closer Than You Think?" from November 2022. So the development has been going on for many years. This is not Elon's wet dream.

Like, Teslas do fine in traffic 99% of the time and then that 1% they just do some stupid shit because they hallucinated something or didn't realise what something was. Mobileye seems no better. They have a video from last month in a Polestar doing a left turn without right of way and it stops to let some pedestrians go between the left and right lane, waits for a car with the right of way inside the intersection to pass and then goes, not seeing that there's a second car coming. So in an ad video it did 2 things correct (waited for pedestrians and a car with the right of way in the intersection) and two things wrong (stopped between two lanes, cut off the second car with the right of way). I'd love to see them succeed and was hyped 10 years ago but the more I get involved the more I realise keeping it at advanced cruise control for a couple more years might not be a bad idea.

For a taxi this concept is fine. A self owned car should ALWAYS have the option to self drive. Example: You are hiking in the woods with your kids. Something happens at home and you need to be back very very fast. At that moment you dont want to be dependent on AI to drive, that is a situation you want to be able to drive yourself as you can and will break traffic rules and take calculated risks to go the fastest possible without endangering yourself or your surroundings. There is an endless list of examples where the need of being able to drive yourself with disabled autosteer/autopilot may be required in the current stage of self driving ability of cars

hey guys, here is a solution for the engineers for matts suggestion of forward view. Just have a camera display the forward view on the screen, wide screen. It could also show rear or side view. Could be changed using an app on the customers phone. They could essentially people watch by clicking buttons on their phone and having the tv screen display different camera around the car. Would be fun.

I'm always surprised when reviewers are _astonished_ that robotaxis are planned to be less expensive than rideshares/taxi. Like IT'S THE WHOLE POINT. You're getting rid of the most expensive part of the service: the driver. Taxis are ridiculously expensive in the context of ditching your car to only use that when needed.
Robotaxis need to be so cheap that they compete with car sharing services (like Zipcar, Exo, and Communauto) and car rental, which is entirely possible considering that the automated driving solves the problem of having cars sitting in parkings, unused. You should be able to make a 10-15km trip for $5-10, and a day-long 500km road trip for less than $100 (car doesn't need to stay with you all the time, just while you're traveling).
