RE: Good info follows >> Let me state up front, that the Ford (500), with few exceptions, is a solid and well-built vehicle. I purchased my '05 SEL with 163K mi on the OD a few yrs ago and it's still my daily driver. (Jul'23)
Having said that, extensive research will reveal that the Ford Five Hundred w/130K+mi., could possibly exhibit 2 major & very common problems that were not mentioned in this video.
Regarding the throttle body which WAS first mentioned as problematic. For me, it's not so much a poor response...
Idling at a standstill with the transmission in drive or reverse, the throttle body will suddenly increase engine RPM which causes the vehicle to lunge forward unexpectedly. It was determined that putting any strain on the idling engine, could trigger this dangerous situation. A slight turn of the steering wheel while pulling in or out of parking, will labor the power steering pump. Or perhaps the A/C compressor switching on... These are just 2 examples but both can send a signal to the PCM that the engine is about to die. The PCM responds by opening the throttle to counter the loss of RPM. Unfortunately it performs this action without consideration or calibration of the vehicles speed reference. If I recall correctly, this was addressed by Ford Engineers in a PCM software update which followed many prior lawsuits and an extensive NHTSA investigation. Carbon buildup on the throttle body is said to also cause a similar response.
Secondly, the wiring harness that lies between the Duratec engine and the firewall, is poorly routed and not properly secured. Wire chafing is almost a guarantee with higher mileage vehicles as the harness over the years, vibrates back and forth against the A/C line right where it enters the firewall, below the cowl, on the passenger side. The chafing of wires can cause open circuits and/or shorts to ground on several critical sensors. Specifically the EGR, MAF, MAP, and FRP fuel rail pressure sensors. Multiple, erratically registering codes will be set in the OBD II system. Crossed and grounded wires can easily cause mayhem in the PCM logic. If your Ford 500 is experiencing a similar problem, you may also see a transmission failure/warning light come on. (Wrench) But at this point, your (CEL) check engine light will most certainly be on.
The knowledge I've share with you was gained the hard way, through direct experience. So if you've read this far and have experienced this same issue or simply like my comments, please give it a thumbs up. I'm rather curious to know how many people this might help in the future. I hope its you! Thanks for reading.

I've still got mine purchased NEW in 2005. I never drove it in the salt, so the corrosion issues were mitigated for the most part. The CVT trans (AWD) is a quirky beast, but I've managed to FIX it twice... the stupid dealer said it couldn't be fixed. Actually 2 stupid dealers said it couldn't be fixed. An indie shop, and myself worked together to find a solution. It's getting old, but still hummin'

My blower motor would come on and cut off randomly. Change the blower resistor 2-3 times and still had problems. Changed blower motor. Still problems. Changed the dash auto control plug and play unit and no more problems. Found used unit on EBay for $30.

My 05 shifting is rough. It bumps the whole car when I put it into reverse or drive on a flat surface. If it's on an incline or decline it shifts smoothly. Is this a transmission issue?

I have an 2005 SEL, México spec, the thing is, those engine supports aren't working anymore, it was really difficult to find 5 new engine supports. Then it has a steering fluid leak, that comes from the pump, then, it has a problem with the fuel sensor, it is sending more gas steam to the engine, which means that it isn't regulating the pressure in the tank, and finally, the transmission has a problem with rough shifting, but, i have money to repair it, and it is a good car.
It also has 29,600 miles on it, I kept it on my garage for 10 years without moving it.
If you think that I am mistaken in some part of the comment, pls correct me.

You guys realize you’re yelling at him to fix a problem he didn’t even mention. He said the blower motor resistor is under the glove box. The heater core is something different, and it just may be on the drivers side.

The transmission on my ford 500 failed on me and i ended up junking the car, i got quoted 5k for a new working transmission which was more than what the car was worth :/ car honestly gave me so much issues that i wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they have thousands of dollars to toss out the window, but yeah
