- Sonic the Hedgehog is back in the all new game Sonic Frontiers. The trailer revealed an expansive open world reminiscent of The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild. Sonic Frontiers is expected to release in 2022.

This gives off heavy Sonic and the Black Knight vibes and I'm all for it. Sonic looks as expressive and alive as he did before the meta era and words just cannot express how excited I am for this game.

Sonic's model looks similar to Black Knight's (The CGI one, the actual in game model look like Sonic Forces which isn't a good thing)

Fun fact: Ian Flyn, one of the major writers of the comics is helping with the story in this game, meaning that not only do we not have to worry about Pontac and Graff’s baldy mcnosehair “writing” but it also means that for the first time in over a decade a Sonic game might just have a decent story.

Yes, it has to be a beautiful breath of the wild inspiration game. I don't want it to be rushed like other games that just want the money, and this is a great opportunity to make it polished and beautiful for switch as well

It is in-engine. If you look closely at 0:43 you can see the reflection of the mointains over the water rendering
It is in engine I could see some shadows being rendered in as well as the leafs on the trees being flat textures

@@Sharpteeth32 3 years of making an engine means that the last main sonic game to actually get a full development cycle was in 2014's sonic lost world, it's like sonic forces was just a blip in sega's schedule.

Sonic Forces was just a Sonic Colors 2.0. The only new feature they had was the character creation. Which they nailed pretty well in my opinion

But rangers I mean front tiers looks graphically amazing, they should really update sonics model he really doesn't fit into the environment. Seems very much like Breath of the Wild. Open world, potential focus on exploring nature, a mysterious voicing leading the protagonist, towers growing out of the ground, a vague enemy made of growling light. Looks intriguing but clearly heavily inspired by Breath of the Wild

This is the first time in a while I've been as blown away as I am right now.
I want so badly to be hyped for this. I want so badly for this to turn out amazing, and to kick off a true renaissance for modern Sonic. But given Sonic Team's track record, I have zero reason to believe they aren't going to royally $@#& this one up as well.
Either way, I have a feeling this is going to be the game that either rescues 3D Sonic from the scrappy heap, or buries it forever, to be replaced by classic-style 2D Sonic forevermore.

The new breath of the wild inspiration pokemon game looks quite interesting too. Can't wait to play both of them when they come out and it's fascinating to see 3 games have some breath of the wild inspiration! (Genshin, pokemon legendary arceus and now Sonic!). Hope Mario could do an inspiration as well

@@xLethalx68 ; The biggest 'calling card' for BoTW imo is the massive structural pieces that can not only be seen in the distance from anywhere on the map, but also approached. This is antithetical to most other open world games because you now need to render a lot of distant geometry, with LODs that can be seamlessly transitioned between geometric complexities as you get closer or farther away. This also implies that your art direction needs to adhere to this 'limitation' as well. Most games would either make it impossible to visit or try to cull it away with fog and flatter landscapes. So it's both a technical and artistic feat that need to both be in sync. You can see the same approach here. That alone to me, despite the same setting, is obviously inspired by BoTW.
In my opinion sonic adventure 2 battle was the best sonic game ever, I might be biased since that was one of my childhood go to games but I don’t care. I hope this one has similar elements.
I've never been able to play a Sonic game before because I just feel like there's too much going on at once with how quickly you move, but I can genuinely see this being really enjoyable with such a big open world.

That whole scene with the giant tower gave me instant vibes to breath of the wild. Its looks just like it. That weird purple goo following sonic that exploded looks just like malice. The scenery looks very nice! Hope this game turns out ok.
