Thanks Bun and Steve. This sounds amazing! For those that would like to know the venue was UW Memorial Union Terrace, Madison, WI. The contract they signed for this gig was as Sick Man of Europe. They were playing as The Reapers for the three previous gigs (The Top Deck, Lake Geneva, WI, June 26-28).
I Love everything about this. And Rick looks a little unsure about it all in the photo. Always cutting the edge. Masked Rick should maybe sit in with thee Cormans sometime...at Budokon! Rock & Roll Forever!
Mellotron!, In 1973-74, i attended NIU in Dekalb, Illinois. Needed strings in Rockford for a gig with my Eugene Buxley southern rock band at local " Barney Googles" supper club winter 1973. Went to Nielsons Music store, where Rick in a suit was sales manager, and he tried to sell my band a Mellotron - 3 years later I finally connected the dots with Cheap Trick
And I realized how Rick acquired guitars, as many guitarists were selling their used guitar for cash or trade in for years (decades) at Nielsen's Music store in Rockford
Mellotron was also used by Rick in 1980 when they played Oh Candy, if I'm not mistaken. Rick played the High Priest of Rhythmic Noise on mellotron during the introduction. Passaic and Providence recordings prove it.
Their first gig was on June 26th, 1973 at The Top Deck, Lake Geneva, WI. They were billed as the Reapers that night (and the next two nights, same venue).

Awesome! I needed this as I ride out Hurricane Beryl. My yard looks like a bomb exploded!
Take care.

INCREDIBLE! This is so much fun!
I love this band, thanks !
Rock & Roll Queen!👍👍

You can hear why Rick and Bun gravitated to each other. Theyve always had a rhythmic connection. Helps that Rick messed around on drims for a while.
Rick on Mellotron….love it.
Bun already showing THAT particular set of skills!
Must be at the student union on Langdon
Wow!
Frees The Stealer very funkified cover..
🔥💙🔥
Another awesome gem! Thanks Bun E & Steve. Were these publicity shots from this lineup taken at Bun’s parent’s home, the “old western” town out back?
Yup
Thoroughly enjoyable 👍
Is that Rick in the photo wearing a tiger mask?
yes
Wow - amazing to hear all this early material. If this was the 4th ever CT gig, where was the first?

I had a drummer once
Slade played in the USA in 73 so maybe they got their name soon after this gig when they saw them ?
What does that mean
That story (Slade concert) of the name origin is fictitious.
Ok then what's the real story @@BunEsBasementBootlegs

Was Rick playing the Mellotron MkII he used with Fuse, or did he have an M400 in 1973?
It was a white mellotron. His second one?
