Very cool, I really like how you had something to say about each colony or queen instead of just saying "this a (insert species name) colony" and just leaving it at that
Thanks Ants and pets! I feel like every queen and colony has a story to be told. I really glad you enjoyed that aspect of the video. Thank you for your feedback!
@@TheAntKeeper I am also really glad I found you because Australia has the most amazing ant species and living in the states, i will never own them. You already have 2 of my favorites, the bull and meat ants.
@@johnhaymaker5825 Your rights, I am extremely fortunate to have access to some many amazing sp. What other Australian Ants do you like? When they come available I might get them ;)
@@TheAntKeeper You have the bull and meat ants. If their is a native weaver ant species, that would be cool. But any native Australian ants are great to see. Edit: any lead cutter colony would be cool too.
I have a feeling i picked up a polyrachis Australis wingless yesterday. I’m not sure if it was but I’m imagining picking up a completely new queen and letting it go 💀. I still only got 7 iridomyrmex queens (which I hope can all become friends / polygonous) but I think it’d be cool to have just one other species like pheidole yesterday, I picked up one of my backyard tiles and there was pheidole brood, queens, males, alates, wasn’t able to catch one but now I know exactly what each type of pheidole ant looks like.
There was a massive nuptial flight going on outside and I caught 4 queens cause I ran out of tubes. 3 are iridomyrmex and 1 other also looked like iridomyrmex with a golden patch on its back and a gold tinted legs do you have any clue what species it is or is it just damaged
My favourite is the green metallica. Same as you, when i was a kid, I loved watching them shimmer green in the sunlight. I picked one up, and I had a nasty sting to my thumb. Still its a beautiful ant. I was lucky to find one queen with wings at a park, placed it in a testube. It had about 2 eggs, but I didnt feed it well, and I let it go after 3 weeks. Now I regret it. Im on the look out for another, and this time, I will look after it properly if I am able to find one. At the same time, I have picked up at queen that looks like a Nylanderia sp. I thought it was a Iridomyrmex Bicknelli. However she has about 14 workers I think. Cant wait to catch more queen ants. You're lucky, you have so many types of queens !
Few days ago I saw a wild colony of black crazy ants moving their colony and I rushed back to my home to grab a testtube and managed to catch a queen and two workers. I expected more Queens to appear but they got disturbed by me and stopped their moving. Also the queen had laid many eggs I can't wait to see her workers 🐜🐜💗 ua-cam.com/video/VXSonG-nXTA/v-deo.html 👈
@@TheAntKeeper I just caught some more workers from the same wild colony gonna introduce it to the queen I caught cause she only has two workers I'll be uploading an video after adding more workers ua-cam.com/video/ONuF63DthAE/v-deo.html 👈 to her colony 😀 👍 thanks for being nice, Love your videos ☺️
@@TheAntKeeper Wow. You're going to have a lot of colonies to care for. I couldn't imagine the dedication it takes to make sure they all stay put as well. Hope your house is big enough lol.
4:53 how funny this happened to me too my grandma was going to buy me one for my birthday but on my birthday afternoon I found one
Ahh that's so cool! That's awesome!
8:44 I'm pretty sure that's camponotus lownei not humilior. 9:18 that is camponotus cf humilior I'm pretty sure, I have the same colony of those guys.
You might need to give the green head ant queens some sand as the brood normally spin cocoons
Excellent tip, I overlooked that. Thank you graham!
i think the ant you refer to as Crematogaster is a Melophorus
Hi, You could be right! I had to get help to get the ID with that queen - I couldn't figure out what she was. Thanks for the tip! I'll look into it :D
6:13 i think thats melophorus though i cant see the petiole well
Hey eea! Yes there was a error with the ID of an ant, I personally had to get someone else to try and ID it, sometimes even they get its wrong :D

They're colours are crazy right! Metallic Green has never looked so good
Why do I see people using aluminum foil to wrap their test tube? What does it do?
