just gotta say that this series you have been doing has been some of the most fun ive had watching YT in years. Seeing the corners of the internet touched by no more than a few dozen people is so interesting. I personally find it the most interesting when you explore older 20+ year old games. Dont feel pressured to only post this type of content, but I 100% would love to see more
I loved Blackwake, but after they added bots to fill in the different roles, I wasn't having fun anymore. I enjoyed being the guy that ran around loading cannons and fixing holes, but then they added bots that did all that for you, so I didn't have a reason to keep playing.
I know it wasn’t part of what the video was about but the OG Minecraft music in the background. It started to make me cry near the end, it just reminded me of the amount of fun I used to have with my brother when we were little. The laughter, sadness, anger, joy, and our old underground base we made with 11 dog lmao. To think my brother is so far away from me now just hurts when I remember stuff like that. Thanks for the nostalgia trip.
Just found your channel man it’s amazing & wholesome. I love that you shine a light on these older titles most people wouldn’t even give a thought. Keep up the awesome content!
Man i miss when blackwake was active, the early alpha days where it was just 7v7 one ship were some of the most fun i had. Me and a friend would hop in late at night, sometimes barely speaking privately outside of team chat as the entire ship would be talking and having fun.
Dude back then it was peak pirate roleplay, every single server I had on if you just hype them up abit people will follow on your rp it was such a peak gaming moment for me even though it only lasted a bit Too bad the devs felt that it wasnt worth it to continue the game and hoped other studio will pick it up. There isn't
it blows my mind how not only you manage to have fun in these terrible games but you manage to do it with VSync off and a giant tear in the middle of your screen every time
I love how heartwarming old game servers are. There's something so personal about the connection - I think a lot of big servers are overwhelming, and you never really get to know anyone.
Hey ! Im french and that french little guy was so cute, im just gonna translate the words in french that he asked you : - "Fusil" that means gun - "Casque" that means helmet - "Gilet" that means a vest -"Ciel" that means Sky, i don't know why the kid say "Tiel" but it's Ciel :) -"Téléphone" that means a phone Yes i am flexing my french but i thinks it's great to know for the culture lol
My god even the mention of H1Z1 sent my memory back to an era where devs actually slightly cared about their games. Now the closest I have is Joe Blackburn actually streaming his own game
Hey!! My dad was one of the devs for H1Z1! Fun fact, it was killed because of massive layoffs in the company and daybreaks insistence on monetization! Same thing happened with Planetside....
man your videos are so wholesome. As a gamedev, it's easy to get lost in the sea of toxic gamers and sometimes we forget there are some really amazing, sweet people out there. Watching your videos and seeing some amazing gaming community is such a breath of fresh air
I have an idea. Instead of finding dead games, find games that are nearly dead or not too popular but have amazing communities since in this video the best moments were when you found the players that were willing to help and show you how to play. Its amazing when that happens and it makes me fell all warm and fuzzy inside 😁
Me and my friends used to play H1Z1 all the time. We hoped back on it a few months ago to see if it was still up and we spend and hour on it and could only get in 1 game that even had 3 people in it. I always find these videos really depressing. These games we used to spend countless hours on and had great memories and now it’s just empty, almost feels post apocalyptic.
Man it's awesome to see your channel getting the recognition it deserves. You make some awesome content. Love the theme of these vids, give some great exposure to games long forgotten by most and the nostalgia for those of us who played them is ace
This channel is so cool man! Its not just simple gameplay videos but it highlights all these communities and tells a lot of stories. Much respect to Rye
I'm not good at English, but your videos are really awesome. I don't know many of the old games, but I'm planning to try some of them. The community you have shown here are really nice. It still shows me that there are people who play a game, no matter how old it is. :) Greetings from Germany!
kann ich nur zustimme seine videos sind toll and to everybody non german have a great day drink a tea it's getting cold make yourself comfy and relax a little bit life moves fast no need to rush it more then it already does
Thank you so much for looking at Beyond the Wire. To this day, it remains the biggest disappointment in my experience of playing video games. I was extremely passionate about this game and followed the development of it more closely than I have any other game in the past. I've said this before on a previous video of yours, but I'll say it again. I was a dev tester for that game and for the longest time, I believed that it was going to be the next big tac shooter on PC. But through a painstaking series of bad decisions including a stupidly high early access price tag, abysmal optimization, lack of a progression system, and a SEVERE lack of marketing, Beyond the Wire met its demise extremely early. The devs didn't lower the price until well after the game died, which was a huge slap in the face to the community- or, what was left of it. I think that the "paradox" of dead games is honestly really disheartening; that being if a game is dead, people will stop playing the game and write a negative review for the game citing that the game is dead, which steers away potential new players from buying the game. That's exactly what happened to Beyond the Wire. It was one of my favorite games on Steam, and to see it suffer such a tragic fate was a huge disappointment.
WW1 shoters were never very popular to begin with, even Verdun/Isonzo that are pretty casual. WW1 just isn't "popular" history like WW2 or Vietnam. Add to that even more realism, which keeps most people away and there is a very small target audience left. But yeah you're right, most the already small potential playerbase is most likely gonna see those videos and titles about a dead game and not bother anymore.
Battle cry of freedom was a really fun game when it first released, multiple servers with 100s of people in it, sadly the game died and lost players extremely fast after about 2 weeks and now it is how it is now.
i dont know why but i always find this type of video interesting. it´s almost like videogame archeology. this vids will definetly be seen in the future for studying games of certain eras. BTW as recommendation you should check out project reality. it´s a tactical hardcore shooter with bots and that´s barely alive at certain timezones last time i checked. very in-depth mechanics
S! Fellow WWIonline Players! played from 2006 - 2014 everyday, i joined back in from time to time... It comes a bit short in this video that... well its mainly a "hardcore"war sim, so if you are expecting to go into the easy action like in Call of Duty, this game is not for you. Your have to make your own missions, your own strategy kind of. You have to use your equipment right, just because you are in a PanzerIII doesnt mean that you can take a fight with a Churchill tank. Whicht version of PanzerIII are you in, which version of Churchill may it be? how far is the enemie away? at whicht angle you are firing at him? can your bullet even penetrate his armor in this certain situation. A lot of time in this game is walking/drving/flying. Looking for the enemie and really shooting at him... that takes a lot of time and setup, but when you shoot and hit, its an adrenaline rush like no other. I spend 90% of my playtime in the air, because the dogfihts and the bombing runs were just awesome. I had to learn to fly every single aircraft, had different setups for them, and i even read books about air combat to be better at it, and it helped. But you still need to start your plane at an aerodrome behind the frontline, gain altitude, get to the city where the fight is, and search for enemy aircrafts. And sometimes while doing this, the enemie spotted you first, dived on you and shoots you out of the sky. This game is certainly not for everyone But with a game who only has other players as enemies and teammates, the fewer people are playing it, the more it dies. And with the devs not listening to their playerbase for years, not fixing certain things, developing the game to make it more like an arcade shooter, surely didnt help. tl:dr its a war sim game, it has a hard entry point and you have to learn a lot of things the hard way and die a lot of times. This game is not easy to play. But when you learned it, its unique and fun like no other game out there.
Blackwater used to have a huge community. It was awesome and terrifying to see a full barrage of cannons go off and watch your ship explode. The voice lines are also the best. My issue was the terrible ranking system and eventual addition of bots. U had no reason to play and the game soon died.
I find these abandoned virtual world games absolutely fascinating. To think of these all these worlds that people made many years ago and are now abandoned after everyone moved on...
God I miss H1Z1. Most memorable session was with a few buddies when we got the cop car and went around picking people up we found, handcuffing them and taking them to jail while role playing as some horrible southern accented sheriffs.
As a Beyond the Wire player , I can tell you that we refuse to let this game die .No matter what , we connect every Saturday and keep it alive somehow and in some way . It deserved so much better for how fun it is .
I’m out of the loop on what’s popular, so this series is helping me avoid some dead games (many of which I’d probably like). I did play Beyond the Wire when it was new, but I was pretty terrible at it. Steam still tries to recommend Blackwake to me, probably because it’s similar to Holdfast, which I played constantly a year or so ago. Most recently I tried (and enjoyed) PUBG, but the level disparity was brutal. It’s no fun being level 12 and continually coming up against guys at level 250+.
You might try Killing Floor 1 or 2. KF1 is PC only, but KF2 is on Xbox gamepass. It's actually a very well designed wave survival game, and they recently dropped a pretty nice and very unexpected update alongside announcing a third installment. (Although the update kind of broke the game) And, if you think it might be interesting for your channel, my sister and I could show you the cool stuff and teach you the game.
As an older gamer, it's really nice to see some of these old school communities still around. I've binged a ton of your videos today whilst working and you've earned my sub. I wonder if you've covered Dungeons & Dragons Online? Or City of Heroes? Or SA:MP? No idea what state D&DO is these days but I know the COH community got some private servers going after the game was taken down years back. D&DO is what it sounds like, an MMORPG in the realm of D&D, pretty good and City of Heroes is another fun MMORPG where you can build your own hero or villain and was a fantastic community back in the day and still now, or so I've heard. SA:MP (A multiplayer mod for GTA Saan Andreas) has had a healthy roleplay community for many years and one of the old DM servers, Las Venturas Playground was my first taste of online gaming. If you've covered these already then I am sure I will get around to the video eventually, otherwise would be great to see you cover two old games that I used to play.
This is so wholesome. I recently got back into playing custom servers on Neverwinter Nights and it blew my mind that there were still groups of people playing on them twenty years later and just over a decade from when I played last time. I've noticed that folks there are far friendlier than in popular modern games and go out of their way to help you out (to grow their community, but also because they genuinely love playing those games).
Its a bit sad seeing those games die. Similiar when you boot up an old CS:GO or GMOD Map and just play alone, its a creepy feeling. I remember H1Z1 exploded back then. Sadly the market is oversaturated with shooters and survival/Battle royale Games right now, so its only natural they would die out.
i love this series bro, please keep it up. there’s so many of these dead games you’ll never run out of content. maybe switch it up and make a dedicated video to a specific dead game you’re partial too, but what do i know i’m not a youtuber
I'm sure someone else has already mentioned it and its not worth a reup to fix but the intro for game 3 is using the same one as game 1. Its always a joy to see all of these games that I played when they released being explored by more people :)
Battle Cry of Freedom (BCOF) had so much potential. Still does, but the devs made so many mistakes after release, they killed their own game. BCOF could have been on par with games like Holdfast or War of Rights, but alas
hey rye, starting off I came across your channel a few weeks ago, brings back nostalgia with the music choices and the games you play. Kinda shocked you played BCoF, being such a niche game, I recommend playing commander battles since thats where that came shines, its a little difficult to first learn since they use the command F1-F10 keys to issue orders to your troops, if you want some fellas to teach ya me and a few friends would be down :) but if not keep up the good work rye, you hit my 22 year old ass in the feels every one of these exploration videos lmao
Take some of these games and do community games with more. Like blackwake for example. I remember its early days where each team had multiple ships, the captains were trying to communicate with eachother while giving the people on their ship orders, it was very hectic and intense all the time, ship battles is cool in game, shame theres not more of it.
UA-cam algorithm brought me to your channel and my goodness am I happy it did. This video has the most wholesome video game moments I've seen in a very long time. You're well worth a subscription.
I'm a member of BR1. it's been a while since I played but we used to seed a few servers and sometimes it could pop a couple 100 people. We would organize events and even if it was only like 20 to 30 people we'd still have combat over closer quarters...and of course when you got a full lobby which did happen at one point things just really come together. Game is definitely a gem.
Rye, I randomly found your vids as a recommendation from IGP.. I LOVE your abandonware vids and dead games. Going to have to dive deeper into your vid library more! Sub Subscured!
Honestly your look into worlds online reminds me of VRChat oddly enough, there are just so many empty worlds, and i take it upon myself to explore them.
I remembered seeing the WWII online game being advertise in Military History TV and other printed medias at the time as "the most authentic military sim". Even back then I look and think the graphic is dated by 2007 times.
For American Civil War games, which side is which is going to be a nightmare. The Union wore blue, while the Confederacy wore gray. It seems like a lot of games make the two colors very similar, which is certainly accurate but makes identifying your teammates at a glance difficult.
These videos have such an interesting premise, and they show me games I could have never known existed, like Worlds Online, which went live before I was even born. I also hugely appreciate the usage of Toby Foxes Undertale music, it gives the video another great touch.
Back in 2016, Blackwake used to be a great tactical team-based competitive game with not large but stable community. The game was really fun in its classic naval 3v3 combat without bots, forts and some cheap stuff the devs inplemented to make the game easier for new players. These changes made the game unchallenging and less skill based. It was one of my favourite games and I miss those times
Damn black wake and BCoF really hit me hard. I played both when they were popular and the servers were full of players. BCoF you'd go bayonet charge their cannon line, and then go sing in a church choir with your boys. In black wake you'd sip tea over the bodies of your dead opponents. Good times. Am I getting old?
Found ur video 2 days ago now i am big fan for the content ur providing It brings tears to me talking with people from other countries when u play dead games and old games the memories u make damn that feeling is intense And finding kind people I wish i had a pc Tq for this great video ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

There’s a game with a lower player account that’s in development that needs some love. Klaus Veens Treason 🙌 I can’t play it with my setup so somebody’s gotta do it!!
I think it would be really cool if you covered "Angels Fall First" It's a spiritual successor to some of the ideas that they wanted to implement into the old star wars battlefront 3. Space combat with pilotable capital ships that fighters can launch from and such. Boarding enemy ships. It's pretty dead, but I think it deserves more love.
I still don’t understand how you have so little subscribers I’ve been watching since about 11k and your quality of UA-cam videos are that of someone with 2 million and yet you get hundreds of thousands if not millions of views on all your videos . I don’t see why people arent subscribing to you because you definitely deserve it
Man Blackwake. I was a pseudo-manager for a bunch of streamers teaching them the ropes of the game way back in the pre-alpha and even somehow managed to appear on their early trailers lmao. It was such a fascinating and funny game.

I loved Blackwake, but after they added bots to fill in the different roles, I wasn't having fun anymore. I enjoyed being the guy that ran around loading cannons and fixing holes, but then they added bots that did all that for you, so I didn't have a reason to keep playing.
Blackwake was so nice. I play Blazing Sails nowadays to get a tiny bit of that feeling back.
@sausage.twix89 Yes. Haha. But none of my friends have time to play it atm. Blazing Sails just works well with the time format
Jesus bless you
Just found your channel man it’s amazing & wholesome. I love that you shine a light on these older titles most people wouldn’t even give a thought. Keep up the awesome content!
This is one of the most enjoyable series I've watched in a very long time
Man i miss when blackwake was active, the early alpha days where it was just 7v7 one ship were some of the most fun i had. Me and a friend would hop in late at night, sometimes barely speaking privately outside of team chat as the entire ship would be talking and having fun.
Agreed. I’m really surprised it died, it was so much fun and really popping back then! Hell, even in 2020
Same. I seriously loved that game and SOT and other ship games now do not compare.
Dude back then it was peak pirate roleplay, every single server I had on if you just hype them up abit people will follow on your rp it was such a peak gaming moment for me even though it only lasted a bit
Too bad the devs felt that it wasnt worth it to continue the game and hoped other studio will pick it up. There isn't
I LOVE the interactions you have with these other new/old players. They’re fantastic hahaha
it blows my mind how not only you manage to have fun in these terrible games but you manage to do it with VSync off and a giant tear in the middle of your screen every time
I love how heartwarming old game servers are. There's something so personal about the connection - I think a lot of big servers are overwhelming, and you never really get to know anyone.
Hey ! Im french and that french little guy was so cute, im just gonna translate the words in french that he asked you :
- "Fusil" that means gun
- "Casque" that means helmet
- "Gilet" that means a vest
-"Ciel" that means Sky, i don't know why the kid say "Tiel" but it's Ciel :)
-"Téléphone" that means a phone
Yes i am flexing my french but i thinks it's great to know for the culture lol
My god even the mention of H1Z1 sent my memory back to an era where devs actually slightly cared about their games. Now the closest I have is Joe Blackburn actually streaming his own game
Hey!! My dad was one of the devs for H1Z1! Fun fact, it was killed because of massive layoffs in the company and daybreaks insistence on monetization! Same thing happened with Planetside....
love how the french dude completly ignores you it was just so funny
and btw "fusil mean gun" "casque means helmet" "ciel means sky"
Last time I got to a video this early was... I don't think I've ever been to a video this early
real
Same. Uploaded 18 min ago. Good job UA-cam algo
I’ve gotten on a video 2 minutes after it came out before
Blackwake was incredible back when it first came out!
man your videos are so wholesome.
Its amazing when that happens and it makes me fell all warm and fuzzy inside
😁
Greetings from Germany!
You can write English very well!
Your English is phenomenal. Don't put yourself down man!
kann ich nur zustimme seine videos sind toll
and to everybody non german have a great day drink a tea it's getting cold make yourself comfy and relax a little bit life moves fast no need to rush it more then it already does
Thank you so much for looking at Beyond the Wire.
But yeah you're right, most the already small potential playerbase is most likely gonna see those videos and titles about a dead game and not bother anymore.
true 😢
Bruh, that screenshot of the wedding at 11:52 got me creepy. I just watched Nexpo 's video about worlds online and nexialist was central figure.
Battle cry of freedom was a really fun game when it first released, multiple servers with 100s of people in it, sadly the game died and lost players extremely fast after about 2 weeks and now it is how it is now.
It died cause War Of RIghts is better
Okay no way, i just got my food ready, was searchin for hours to find a good video, and now finally a new dead games vid. I can eat in peace.
Love these vids man, keep up the great work. These games are always really good, shame that they are lacking in players.
i dont know why but i always find this type of video interesting. it´s almost like videogame archeology. this vids will definetly be seen in the future for studying games of certain eras. BTW as recommendation you should check out project reality. it´s a tactical hardcore shooter with bots and that´s barely alive at certain timezones last time i checked. very in-depth mechanics
"In this place, there is no war. Only music" I'm going to remember that one lol
"No war, only music" :' )
In this place, there is no war. Only the music.
God I miss H1Z1. Most memorable session was with a few buddies when we got the cop car and went around picking people up we found, handcuffing them and taking them to jail while role playing as some horrible southern accented sheriffs.
In these games, the player base is literally the friends Rye makes along the way
I really really loved Blackwake when it got out. You could see servers with loads of people and multiple ships fighting each other. It was amazing
Love your channel, dude. Keep up the excellent work. 🤙
That kid definitely looked up how to tell you he was gunna go eat. that was heartwarming.
You might try Killing Floor 1 or 2.
KF1 is PC only, but KF2 is on Xbox gamepass.
It's actually a very well designed wave survival game, and they recently dropped a pretty nice and very unexpected update alongside announcing a third installment. (Although the update kind of broke the game)
And, if you think it might be interesting for your channel, my sister and I could show you the cool stuff and teach you the game.
If you've covered these already then I am sure I will get around to the video eventually, otherwise would be great to see you cover two old games that I used to play.
when the enemy teams all coordinated to play O Christmas Tree and he says "in here there is no war" Makes a man cry
I love this series so much. Thanks for continuing to make them. I'm getting a real kick out of seeing these seemingly dead games!
Been killing it with the uploads lately! Keep it up, please❤
i love this series bro, please keep it up. there’s so many of these dead games you’ll never run out of content. maybe switch it up and make a dedicated video to a specific dead game you’re partial too, but what do i know i’m not a youtuber
Beyond the wire was actually a really good game!! Was super fun to play in the beginning when they had a few full servers, sad to see it dead now!
Same, updates killed it by bad optimization, it was super fun and realistic when active
Kinda shocked you played BCoF, being such a niche game, I recommend playing commander battles since thats where that came shines, its a little difficult to first learn since they use the command F1-F10 keys to issue orders to your troops, if you want some fellas to teach ya me and a few friends would be down :)
but if not keep up the good work rye, you hit my 22 year old ass in the feels every one of these exploration videos lmao
I loved Black Wake. Battles can get very intense and it is super fun. Its just sad that the game didnt go as far as it could.
17:39 'In this place is no war ... only the music' - we need more places like that!
Man Blackwake was so much fun for the 2 months it was active
Oh man, I actually remember Blackwake during it's peak. Man it was a blast back in the day with some buds.
absolutely love this series hope you keep up with it for a while more
I'm a member of BR1. it's been a while since I played but we used to seed a few servers and sometimes it could pop a couple 100 people.
I was randomly on the Beyond the Wire Steam page and I saw your review shortly after opening this video. Love your stuff lol
Man I raelly can't cope with nostalgia. Amazing video Rye!
Honestly your look into worlds online reminds me of VRChat oddly enough, there are just so many empty worlds, and i take it upon myself to explore them.
As a Man U fan when he said “ oh, I have to go” I felt that 😭😭
I love that no matter what game and server u join and no matter what language barrier is their people are still friendly and helpful.
Love this series, it's simultaneously comforting and depressing lmao
I'm an avid blackwake player, that game is a testimate to good game design. The devs did great on it and its a genuinely fun game with lots to offer.
i always look forward to seeing your videos keep up the good work 👍
I remembered seeing the WWII online game being advertise in Military History TV and other printed medias at the time as "the most authentic military sim". Even back then I look and think the graphic is dated by 2007 times.
Rye: Who’s your footie team?
Chinese man: Manchester United
Rye: I have to go 💀💀
For American Civil War games, which side is which is going to be a nightmare. The Union wore blue, while the Confederacy wore gray. It seems like a lot of games make the two colors very similar, which is certainly accurate but makes identifying your teammates at a glance difficult.
Such heartwarming content!
These videos have such an interesting premise, and they show me games I could have never known existed, like Worlds Online, which went live before I was even born.
I also hugely appreciate the usage of Toby Foxes Undertale music, it gives the video another great touch.
it was cool to see you playing Worlds!
ive been playing for a bit and it's cool to see you visiting it too!
Love the channel keep up the great work
Damn black wake and BCoF really hit me hard. I played both when they were popular and the servers were full of players. BCoF you'd go bayonet charge their cannon line, and then go sing in a church choir with your boys. In black wake you'd sip tea over the bodies of your dead opponents.
Good times. Am I getting old?
Next dead game you should do is overwatch 2
Even better play the pve 😉
Found ur video 2 days ago now i am big fan for the content ur providing
It brings tears to me talking with people from other countries when u play dead games and old games the memories u make damn that feeling is intense
And finding kind people
I wish i had a pc
Tq for this great video
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I played H1Z1 a lot in the past. Becoming one of the best players ever. If it gets back to its prime I will be playing it again
PROOF

I cant tweet you because apparently I got banned. But I suggest Double Action boogaloo! Hope you see this..
@ryegamesofficial you used the title page for game 1 before game 3
Try playing PVK2 you wont regret it, last time i played it was back 2019 still has few weebs playing it 😂😂
Yo frenche here , fusil mean rifle , casque mean helmet , telephone mean phone good video
There’s a game with a lower player account that’s in development that needs some love. Klaus Veens Treason 🙌 I can’t play it with my setup so somebody’s gotta do it!!
I think it would be really cool if you covered "Angels Fall First"
It's a spiritual successor to some of the ideas that they wanted to implement into the old star wars battlefront 3.
I don’t see why people arent subscribing to you because you definitely deserve it
What a cool idea for a UA-cam series. I just discovered your channel the other night by complete chance. Really enjoying the content!
Man Blackwake. I was a pseudo-manager for a bunch of streamers teaching them the ropes of the game way back in the pre-alpha and even somehow managed to appear on their early trailers lmao. It was such a fascinating and funny game.
ive watched a handful of this series at least i believe so, and everyone of these videos have their own special moments and its fucking amazing. plus the transition music is a bop
