Please don’t call this the DC Animated Universe. That name belongs to a better shared universe consisting of 7 great animated series and tie in comics. This is the far inferior DC Animated Movie Universe.
This video shows just how easy it could be to screw up the Judas Contract storyline and shows just how much work and effort the original creator and the 2003 show put in to make sure everything was just right. Excellent video mate! Unfortunately you are now the Judas Contract guy and will be forced to do them till the end of time, can't wait for the next one!
Normally I wouldn't mind that. If I didn't like fan service, I wouldn't be a Devil May Cry fan. Yet Robin/Nightwing is shown to have excellent leadership skills through his actions throughout the film outside of the opening.
Tfw you try to combine both the original comic and the cartoon version of the story (despite them being vastly different) in an attempt to capture the best parts of both, only to wind up with something mediocre that doesn't match up to either
The opening prologue scene may have been unnecessary, but at least it is better than the prologue from the Killing Joke animated film. I hope you make a video about that adaptation. I love to hear your opinion/criticism on it.
Well the prologue from the Killing Joke at least sets up the fact that Babs is Batgirl and why her getting shot is so important to not only Batman but the audience. it still connects to the story. the sex thing between her and batman is just a call back to the JLA episode where old Babs tells Terry that she had a thing with Bruce
Interesting. Imo that's my least favorite part (mostly because I'm a Dick×Babs person), but the strongest part IMO was the fight choreography. The fight scenes were brutal but well done.
You see, my main problem with these animated movies is that they are too short for the stories they try to tackle with, don't get me wrong i like them a lot (specially Batman vs Robin and Justice League vs Teen Titans) but they would be way better with an extra 30 to 40 minutes to flesh-out more of the story and better set up relations between the characters.
@@CoreIdeas I was ready for Damian to act like a shit in this film and was surprised when he acted more mature. Although when he said he approved of Nightwing and Starfire's relationship I was just like "Shut up, your opinion is irrelevant."
@@nicholasrodinos4701 "Father told me I should be more open-minded about the lifestyle choices of others but I suppose that others` prejudices against me are more important than me actually learning a lesson!"-Damian Wayne
@@AspieMediaBobby Damian has had 4 movies to learn lessons and grow as a character, maybe we should give the attention to someone else. I was surprised that Batman Hush actually focused on Batman considering how the last Batman movie set in this universe had to focus on Damian. Justice League vs Teen Titans was practically 'The Damian Wayne show with the Teen Titans.' The only good part of it was Damian connecting to Raven, who should've been focused on more, especially considering Damian having to learn to work with other people was done in Batman Bad Blood.
My heart still hurts for 2003 Teen Titans Terra....ugh that was a roller coaster of emotions to go through when I was little, especially when BB found out she was alive but didn't want to go back to the team and that was the last we saw of her. Hopefully Young Justice will keep her as a reoccurring character after her fall from grace.
They didn't even show 📺 us how Terra joined the Titans..... They just skipped it..... Unlike Teen Titans we saw the evolution of who Terra was and how she became the person she was.... This was forced and rushed... I like Nightwing and Starfire.... But I don't think we had to see them meeting as an opening.... It should have been the introduction to Terra and how she got into the team.
You're right. On paper she would be the best Terra. Take the hero titan that fails to be a hero and is almost murdered for her attempts at heroism, then taken in by Deathstroke and forged into the. villain Terra. She's torn between the hopefully Terra she was born as and the cynical Terra she was forced to become. The ability to relate to Damien would only increase. And then have the 2003 beastboy no friends line moved into Slade's sexual exploitation and betrayal. Wow, that would hurt, a lot. You really are right, on paper this could have been a great evolution of Terra, but it wasn't fleshed out for us to care.
Animated Terra will always be the best Terra. Her storyline and character is just perfect. This one is still better than the unrealistic comic book version.
Am i the only one who wanted a movie based on the orginal tt over this new team? They had way better synergy and tbh the focus on damien was kinda annoying
@Kiquan Ringo Dick grayson robin, wally west kid flash and garth aqualad, followed by the quick addition of donna troy wonder girl. The robin kf al trio followed by a powerhouse is referenced in young justice as well
and I understand the points you were making. But I just didn't care. But I will never an animater version of an accurate Titans team from any era. So seeing someone remembered Roy and Wally was nice. Good breakdown of the movie.
@@fangirlsophie7462 Having your own thoughts and opinions is the most important thing. As long as we can acknowledge each other's reasons, then I'm happy!
You want to know the worst part they're adapting Batman hush to this universe and since there was a 5 year time skip how the hell are they going to introduce Jason Todd that's my question when there was no mention of him
*Me and my dad watching Judas Contract for the first time* Me: "I hope Deathstroke is in this! He's an amazing villain to watch!" Deathstroke: *proceeds to makeout with teenage girl* Me: :I My dad: :I
So many problems with the film, and I think the basic flaw is a pure misunderstanding of the source material and the unnecessary changes to the cast of characters. The comic is a masterpiece for many reasons, and Tera herself is really only a minor part of it. A great movie like "Gone with the Wind" or the 1959 "Ben-Hur," takes a character and totally evolves that protagonist so they've become a different person by the end of the film. The comics version of ths story is set against the backdrop of doubt leading up to Wally's decision to leave, Dick's move from Robin to Nightwing, and the questions about Donna's backstory. The Judas Contract is a crucial part of the evolution of the Teen Titans in the Perez/Wolfman authorship. The time constraints you point out are completely valid, and even if they had not made these confusing and out of context cast changes, this is not a 90 minute story. This is a "Gone with the Wind"/"Ben-Hur" tale.
EXACTLY! While I gloss over a lot of the material (Brother Blood, Dick turning into Nightwing, Jericho, etc), I'm only doing so because the adaptations don't delve into them. While it worked for the TV show, the film tries to be "faithful", while ignoring the build up and team dynamics that made it what it was.
One thing I remember from this movie that made no sense was when Deathstroke ended a fight and left after seemingly shooting Nightwing through the heart. After getting shot Nightwing fell in the water, and Deathstroke took a moment to look and quickly concluded he was dead, after seeing no blood being the big deal. Someone like Deathstroke should not just assume that someone is dead if they fall into water after an exhausting fight.
Ploppman legit me and a buddy of mine that watched the movie for the first time thought the same thing. Unless it was the same in the comics, then I got nothing.
What I didn't like the Judas Contract film was one thing, Terra. I hated how they tried so hard to make her a blend of not only her psychopathic and irredeemable comic version, but also her tragic and caring TV series version. To me at least the effort just didn't pay off and I couldn't decide whether she was truly worthy of her redemption or not cause let's be honest. She only truly felt sorry after Deathstroke backstabbed her. If he hadn't she would have done jacksh*t to help the Titans.
I was hoping you'd touch on the inconsistencies of Ravens power level and the need to clearly defining what state of her development she’s in. Superman
Trigon > Raven > Superman > Darkseid > Tara in the comics, Raven warped Azarath into a cursed dimension after her birth immediately and the sky turned black by her demonic presence in the comics and destroyed her first planet as 10 years old and reached the heaven itself which is a superior feat to flash outrunning teleportation and darkseid reaching the source wall etc her soulself is a doorway to heaven and hell, Raven has consistently been above powerful hell lords like Belial, Etrigan and Neron etc who are stronger than Hela , Raven is also faster than Superman by the heaven feat ,she did what pre crisis Superman couldn't and she's immortal banned from the heaven and after life by the presence himself even hell didn't dare to claim her soul so she just kept wandering around and can re incarnate into different bodies basically a female Lobo and can pass immortality and death just like the main man and she has an absurd healing factor she could regenerate from a soul and Neron was terrified of her I am talking about the base forms not cosmic armour Superman or true form Darkseid also Raven is actually a 3 dimensional being so it makes sense to be on this level of power.
This made me realize that OG Terra is a lot like Kyoko from Madoka Magica. A selfish amoral girl who only wanted to use her powers for herself. But with that character, she grew, learned and changed. The issue with Terra is she wasn't originally built to be a character, if she had been things would have been different, she was a strawman the writers used to subvert expectations. Honestly I find og Terra to be a bit unrealistic with her static personality and one dimentionality. I suppose that was the point of her though so I guess it's whatever. Great vid!
Core Ideas In the movie it's implied that Beast Boy left the Doom Patrol for the Titans very recently to the opening scene. And Beast Boy was around like very young when he joined whereas Robin would've been around like 18 or 19 in that scene
I know you went over the changes with Terra's character, but I want to mention Deathstroke. First of all he was extremely nurfed, he went from being able to slap nightwing aside with ease, to it being a legitimate struggle. Second, the character in the comics had a sense of honor. Not wanting to shoot nightwing because the bullet might hit a bystander was a big example. However, this version has never shown anything close to that. And finally, the motivation. You brought it up earlier, but the Deathstroke in the comics was hunting the titans partly as revenge and partly to honor his son. This deathstroke's motivation is partly money and partly a grudge over robin specifically. Sum it up to say that I enjoyed the original character a lot more.
It was like the same mistake the comic people did with Titans East. The majority of the comic's beginning was dedicated to the titans fighting Joker, and them it suddenly jumps to Cyborg creating a new Titans East while bringing back several obscure characters like Anima. Then the writers suddenly wipe them all out so we can be subjected to an entire arc of yet another Raven and family issues.
Having a hard time caring for Tera was definitely my main problem with it. They really should have made the opening scene her introduction and had some more moments with her. I guess even the writers thought Starfire and Nightwing was the best part of the movie, so they started it with them. And Tera from the original story is more like TTG Tera? You learn something new everyday, I guess. This video turned out better than I expected. Maybe I’ve encountered a bit too many outraged comic fanboys lately, so I kinda expected this to be the same.
I also quite enjoyed this movie, it isn't perfect by any means, but I think it is a good movie, ironically, the Terra in this movie is actually my favourite version, and that she is a blend of the one from the comic and the one from the animated show is exactly why, I kind of dislike the Terra from the comics because she is just a straight up the world with no redeeming qualities, this might be due to me growing up with the animated show, so I greatly prefer a sympathetic Terra, the fact that she is a conflicted character is exactly what drew me to her to begin with
Not gonna lie, when beast boy did the diamond in the rough speech about terra, me and a buddy of mine busted out laughing for five minutes straight. Also anyone notice a bit of a timeline hiccup with slade having his one eyed mask on back when he “saved” terra yet he didn’t lose his eye until son of Batman.
I thought this would be based on the comic...boy was I dissapointed. And to add insult to injury, they had a character that was identical to Jericho from the comics and shot him in the head. Big FU to fans of the real source material.
Whenever I hear the comment "I don't care about seeing this character suffer/die", I just wonder what the hell is wrong with so many people. Personally you need to show me a person, real or fictional, doing some pretty nasty harm to others for me not to feel bad about them suffering and dying. If I am not a huge outlier, then I imagine the phrase should really be "If you did this, then the character dying would have much more emotional impact."
Honestly the last DC Animated movie I genuinely enjoyed was "Flashpoint Paradox", Since then they've been poor IMO (Assault on Arkham is the exception though). I've yet to see Death & Reign of Superman & JL vs Fateful Five
Excellent analysis, I think I was a lot less hard on the film when I saw it because I was simply overwhelmed by how much I liked the films take on Beat Boy. Unlike a lot of Teen Titan fans I never gravitated to his portrayal in the original Teen Titans animated series, to be frank I found him almost as annoying as Jar Jar Binks and the version of him in Young Justice seemed a little bland. Anyway, in taking up your points, if they wanted to have a tragic backstory for Tera, why not have her unintentionally cause a mountainside in the village she grew up in, killing most of the population and so the survivors are simply lashing out at her. This would have gotten around the issue you pointed out that, in a world with so many metahumans, their reactions seemed completely nonsensical.
Also Terra doubling down on capturing them in the movie is because she doesn’t want to feel bad about what she’s done even though she knows it’s wrong because of her obsession with Slade. That doesn’t make her a bad person it makes her realistic. She went through a similar thing in the 2003 show where she went off the deep end because she had no one other than Slade left to turn to and he preyed upon her hurt feelings of not being accepted by Beast Boy to make her feel like the Titans deserved it for not helping her despite it being her mistakes that caused the whole thing.
You should warn people of spoilers. Blending different versions of something is what alot of companies are doing. Like look at Disney, almost every live action remake is a blend of the original animation, the original fairy tail source material, and alterations for one reason or another that are rarely plot reasons. With that third one for example Beauty and the Beast, they have feminist like messages like bell trying to teach a younger girl to read and being mocked by the town for it. Stuff kinda just thrown in there like way too many outsider voices had a say but no information and/or effort. Like the author of the script wasn't one person, like they depended on the previous material to do the writing for them and just had people throw in random ideas.
Two reasons that DC animated movies have not been that good since Under The Red Hood is one, they keep forcing people to like Damian Wayne by putting him in every movie and making him the focus and in the process ruin them. An example of this is Batman vs Robin which should have been the Court of Owls storyline and now they're doing the same with the upcoming Hush animated film. I like Damian, but not in the animated versions. And two is they are still adding the New 52 garbage which most people don't like. I smell studio executives.
The opening scene that you're harping on seems (sadly) to be a staple of DC animated films...at least insofar as the films based around the "New 52" is concerned. It seems that EVERY ONE of these films, from Son of Batman up all have at least one scene that either doesn't relate to the plot or is fan service related (which I wholly dislike in otherwise serious or semi-serious films, games and manga). Like Batman fighting the metahumans at the docks in Son of Batman or Damian trying to sneak out of Wayne Manner in Batman vs Robin. The biggest offender of this trope to me being the anime inspired fan service "magical girl transformation" scene in Justice League vs. Teen Titans. All instances of scenes that could have been cut in favor of something more substantial that either drove the narrative forward or better supported the films' narrative or tone.
As disappointing as this adaptation could be(haven't seen it), atleast DC gave older Teen Titans fans an adult animation to watch especially since Teen Titans Go wasn't doing anything for them. Marvel on the other hand, just doesn't care since they got the overrated MCU and cartoons to them should only be for kids.
Yeah, I have to agree with this. At least they tried to give the Titans their fair shake in these movies. Though I still recommend JL vs TT for TT fans.
civilwarfare101 but what about the TV shows. They had a few misses (inhumans) but when they hit they hit hard (DD, JJ, LC, a bit of IF). DD and JJ are probably some of the best superhero tv shows of this generation
@@open9456 And they are all cancelled. I will give them DD but that's it. JJ is mainly good because of Kilgrave and Luke Cage was okay. They should've done Heroes for Hire instead. And I will never forgive Netflix giving a protracted origin story for Punisher after DD S2.
Yeah, like why a witch: in Young justice outsiders Terra is from Markovia and within the nation there becomes a bias against metas, they could have used X-men style reasoning and that the country she was in simply hated metas; or you know anything.
Thank you! I don't mind if they hate her for having powers but if they took their time, they could've shown it to be a meta-human issue. Rather than some odd religious reason.
@@CoreIdeas my interpretation was actually that Terra's village were worshippers of Brother Blood, but yes, the movie would have probably benefited spending a bit more time explaining things. It is kind of interesting how much personal perspective can affect how you enjoy a movie, because this movie's interpretation of Terra is actually my favourite version, possibly tied with the one from the animated show. I really dislike the Terra in the comics, by the way, I guess I just prefer her to be sympathetic. It is kind of the exact opposite of my opinion on Blackfire where I'd been her comic book counterpart to be vastly superior as a character to the one in the animated show, I tends to prefer villains who has some complexity to them rather than being just evil for the sake of evil, but I guess it is just a personal preference of mine
I have to disagree with Terra. The original comic book one is unrealistic because they try to say she was born bad (which is impossible) but also say she’s insane from a mental disorder which literally means she can’t be held morally accountable for her actions because she’s crazy and thus isn’t choosing to be bad. The original Comic Terra is a case of victim blaming a teenage girl with a mental condition as being evil for her actions, but then sweeping the 50 year old man raping her’s evil under the rug as being a better person than her despite him being able to choose who he is due to not being insane. It’s disgusting that the comic sympathizes more with a pedophile who is grooming an unstable child into being a killer rather than getting her help, than the actual victim of the story. The TV show realized this and smartly put the blame on Slade where it belongs. This movie’s Terra is still better than the comic Terra by default not because she’s more sympathetic from not being insane, but because the movie doesn’t vilify an insane abuse victim (a child no less) while exonerating her abuser. The original Comic Terra is not evil, she’s insane. The comic might disagree but that caveat makes the narrator of the story wrong about who is evil and who isn’t in that storyline. The writer probably had good intentions with that story but they got the situation completely wrong and (maybe unintentionally) sided with a bad case of morality by putting the blame on The teenage girl whose too insane (and too young) to be held accountable for her actions. IE not evil.
I knew something had gone horribly-wrong as the opening scene played in the film. The Titans see some sort of alien conflict taking place, and one of them notes that they have no idea what the situation is or what any figure's role is, or... anything, really. But they dive in and start beating up the larger group, anyway. This is something I'd expect to see in a parody, not something done in earnest. In the aftermath, Starfire dropped down, after not being able to speak English, kissed Robin, and then blatantly stated, in English, that she can learn other people's languages by kissing. This is just downright stupid and bludgeons the audience over the head like they're idiots. This prologue covers the same basic storyline that we also see in the 2003's Season 5 episode, "Go!" Strange how that episode of a children's cartoon handled the scene with more nuance and didn't treat its audience like they were stupid and couldn't understand the obvious that was directly in front of them without a character blatantly spelling it out for them, yet the PG-13 movie certainly did. When the kids show is more nuanced and treats its audience like they're smarter than how your PG-13 film treats its audience, you know you've screwed up.
Lugbzurg 1:This cartoon isn't too far from a kids cartoon. It's for teens at most. 2:Telling an audience how an alien girl can speak English isn't treating the audience like retards. I assure you the majority of people who watched this movie know nothing about the comics therefore know nothing about Starfire's ability to do such a thing.
You sound like that comic book dude from the Simpsons. Nah, I'm just taking a piss. I totally agree that the animated version was garbage. Deathstroke was underplayed, Damian shouldn't have been played at all (I can't stand that little muthafukka) and the shit was just boring. 9 times out of 10 the old adage proves true "the book is always better than the movie." Great vid. Thanks.
Basically you have two options with a character like Terra. Either commit to a sympathetic portrayal (Teen Titans, Young Justice) or fully stick to the comics and make her an umrepremtive bitch. This movie tried an awkward middle ground and it just didn't work.
Kind of in a similar boat with this film: I didn't think it was bad, but the way everything was handled felt questionable or made me wish I was just watching the old show's version instead. (Heck, Blood here is even more one-dimensional than his 2003 counterpart, ngl, which is kind of disappointing considering the lengths he would go to in order to take over everybody's mind in that show - even surgically altering his own body in order to amplify his powers, yet at the same time weakening it since it appeared those who were resistant needed to also go through said procedure in order to actually be under his control. Dude was more intimidating the literally blood-thirsty cultist.)
They need to just stop trying to adapt the judas contract story. It's literally on round 3 now, is there really nothing else one can tell at this point? It's about as ridicoulous as "oh batman begins made people aware" and making endless installments about Ras Al Ghul both animation and live-action.
1:39 whoa really? holy fucking shit YES. i've been hoping to see some new batman beyond content for years. finally. they should totally relaunch a batman beyond series. either remake the original but make it much better, or continue from where it left off, after terry accepts his life as batman.
I found this film kinda underwhelming. I was really excited and hyped for this movie as I watched TTvsJL which was alright but I mainly love the Judas Contract and the 2003 adaption. But this film missed the wrong bits and focused on the wrong stuff making lose so much impact
Oh no, there's another problem with this, they forgot to draw Starfire's clothes on!!! What a glaring mistake, you think someone would have noticed along the way that she only has knickers on her bottom half while hanging out with a bunch of children, oopsie doopsies!!!
For me Tara's back story just didn't work, and she came across as an absolute A hole, I can understand that she was always without a redeeming quality in the comics from this video, however I feel like just because you are intending to make an anti sue, it doesn't mean an anti sue isn't a bad character to design in the first place. Being evil for the sake of being evil is fine if done right, but here I just witness a total prick getting so much love and care from her peers for 45 min, while acting mad AF and being so wrong, she made an anti sue like Shin Asuka from Seed destiny look like a freaking puppy. Also Starfire was so dumbly written in this movie. Twice she just said something that was so dumb, it make newer Adam Sandler movies feel clever. First she tells Nightwing, that Damian is a titan, and therefore he should be here, when she meant to say: Damian is the only person here with a fucking brain, and we need him. Second time being when Tara was revealed to be a double agent, and her response is, it can't be true, when she meant to say: that makes waaaaay too much sense, when you think about the way you've been acting this whole time. And to briefly touch on me just praising Damian, I quite like him, especially when he is with this many dunces, he just seem like the only voice of reason in a sea of tards. Now i can also see why they made the Teen titans vs justice league movie into the Damian show. They got jacked shit for all the other characters. In the end she got her redemption and sacrificed herself, and my only thought was: Damn I'm glad that bitch is dead, good lord. My overall feeling of this movie is the sexual innuendo was funny, Damian was a breath of fresh air, everything else was pretty ass, and I will put this movie in the same category as the worst of the worst. I've put it there with Justice league: war and Batman and Harley Quinn, the hot garbage tier. 1.5/10
The last really good DC Animated film was The Flashpoint Paradox. I kind of like Assault on Arkham & Gotham by Gaslight, but all of the New 52, 'punch first & ask questions later' films ranged from subpar to awful, IMO anyway. I miss the days of DC Animated Films that had action AND good plots & dialogue, instead of just a lot of punching & blowing up things; Doom, Crisis on Two Earths, Public Enemies, Apocalypse, The New Frontier, etc, were all excellent, maybe because they had better source material, maybe because they had better writers (perhaps the death of Dwyane McDuffie played a part in that), maybe because they were trying to mimic the Cinematic Universe, maybe all of the above plus more, I don't know. They even managed to botch The Killing Joke, one of my favorite comic stories ever. Either way, I can't understand why they continue down this current road of disappointment. I guess these films are making money, so they don't care, which would be sad. I hope they wise up & get it together, if they trash Batman: Hush, another one of my favorite stories/Batman stories, I guess I'll just totally give up on them altogether.
@@CoreIdeas I agree that weirdly TTG Terra is the most accurate of NTT Terra yet it felt like a smack in the face at the same time as the creators seemed to gone with it more so to pander to BBR shippers then comic accuracy. I mean "Raven really hated Terra bc she was stealing BB from her" was a popular (and annoying) headcanon that they made Canon for their show. I'm also worried what the live action Titans will do in terms of love triangles as I've heard they're touching on BBR there too and I don't want to see one of the Titans' most famous arcs be bogged down by petty love triangle angst.
I know, I'm so sorry. The project was all set and then, it just didn't come together as I'd hoped. Then I realized that if I kept making a part per season, it would be a longer series than I planned. So instead, I scrapped it and decided to rework part three into a much, MUCH longer video.
@@CoreIdeas Oh dude, no rush at all, I just think it's undeniably hilarious. Good luck!

I thougth it was ok.. I mean, it wasn't excellent or even better than the teen titans version but it had some good things in it. It's like you said maybe with more time they could have done something better. Yes, the begining is pointless, so as the Brother Blood storyline, but the character itself was... ok. First off, her backstory wasn't really a problem to me. I just asume a lot of things there, like what kind of people her townfolks were or the type of place she live in. Then we have her development and I kinda like it though it was very rushed. I don't think they were trying to make her more sympathetic, just more complex. Yeah, she was evil but she was also a person. She grow up knowing only what Slade told her, he was the only contact she had with him so she start to rely on him and eventually love him. Then when she meet the Titans, they are nothing like Slade told her and she star to have doubts, and when she acknowkledge her feelings for Beast Boy she get scare because she thinks she's betraying Deathstroke so she goes back to him in denial. And finaly, whe Slade indeed betrays her, she realised what she has done, and how he manipulated her. Idk, I could be wrong though and it's like you said: They should have developed her better but they run out of time.
Two things I didn't like about this movie. 1, Brother Blood ends up just being an end game video boss, and 2, that end clip of Terra's death. If Terra had actually saved the day with the intent of saving the Titans, that end shot of her and Beast Boy smiling at each other would've been better. But no, she basically left them to die and the only reason the day was saved was because Slade forked her over to die too, and she just lost it and brought the whole building down. Don't know why Beast Boy cared about her dying after she left him to rot. I get that in the comics, the TV show, in this movie, it's more about her feeling abandoned by everyone, but the execution was shit.
The new Terra from Young Justice is kinda weird. I understand -sort of- what the writers where dealing with here. Same deal as with Spiderman they had to deal with an audience that knows what´s going to happen due to the multiple iterations of the character so he "actually been working for Deathstroke" twist doesn´t come as a twist for most. That´s why they chose to have her not try to kill BB at the end and instead had Geoforce become the bad guy. Geoforce arc was Really good and well developed through out the season but Terra´s was kinda lazy. As if the writers were telling us "we all know she is evil, so here, watch her sexting Deathstroke or what not" Then in a VERY UNDERwhelming scene (not even just whelming) she flies a rock on top of BB, then Artemis tells her she´d always know because Batman is the guy from _Lie to Me_ now aparently, and she doesn´t kill him. Then she is suddenly good and redeemed. And that was it. Like what the fuck. Again the twist with Geoforce was great but Terra´s character had no love put into her and the characterization they gave her is no more than that of a brick wall.
At about 14:00 : I don't know, maybe whatever pseudo-slavic 1 mile wide nation she comes from considers ALL meta-humans to be 'children of satan', but they couldn't do anything to the Justice League. The one in their midst, however, they could take all of their frustrations out on. At about 15:00 : Well, when it comes to the 'disturbing' relationship between Terra and Slade: If anyone else hasn't already pointed this out, it was even WORSE in the actual comic, since there were several suggestions that the two were some kind of 'intimate couple', or at least the messed up mind of Tara thought so (look at what she was wearing). I find it odd that the movie did address this with "I got it. 'No, but you could' " lines between the two (although I think this version of Tara is several years older the the comic version, but still...... 0_0).
Then that should have been conveyed properly. Obviously they can't take on the Justice League but if they consider all Meta-Humans to be immoral or products of Satan, then they should have either said or shown something. Replacing the items in their hands with dolls or posters of different heroes, for example.
Oh yeah, it's way worse in the comics. It's pretty much said that he had sex with her multiple times. Yet, as messed up as that was, she wasn't manipulated into wanting sex. She used him and he used her. It's a little more disturbing, IMO, by having a teenage girl see you as a savior and manipulate her to the point of wanting you.
Well, I think disturbing was exactly the point, and unlike in the comic, at least they didn't try to frame it as proof of Terra being evil (because an older man sleeping with a 14-year-old is totally the fault of the young teenager and not at all a sign of manipulation and grooming. Of course I am being sarcastic)
I think the disappointing part about this iteration is that a version that both combines the original and 2003 version of this character would work as a distinctive reminder that she is a mentally ill 15 year old. A malignant person, who at the end of the day is lost and confused. She hates and does not know why. Her sexual relationship with Slade also opens the door to a deeper interpretation of the character and the dynamic of that relationship. Tara can be a sympathetic character without being a good or reasonable person. It all depends on her framing on how they can develop these details and make a complex character.
Aquaman and Shazam are great and have gotten good reviews but know with Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse DC needs an animated movie on the same level as that
I've heard Shazam is amazing and Aquaman was enjoyable. Going to be seeing Shazam this weekend! Hopefully they learn that Spider-Verse's animation wasn't the only reason why it was successful.
That ending. I don't know how you did it , but you managed to turn a discussion about escapist content into one of those "inside the mind" programs. This is what comes when you grant a millennial unlimited access to the internet- overbearing emotional investment. Call it a career
I think the chances of people getting an adaptation almost completely faithful to the original story is pretty hard since most people are familiar the Teen Titans 2003 show take on it. Even YJ redeemed Terra and turned her heroic brother into an influenced and manipulated antagonist.
Not all DC animated films are in the DCAU (including this one) this is actually in the DCAMU (DC Animated Movie Universe) not that this is a problem with the video but as a fan of the DCAU That being the interconnect set of animated shows and films created over the past 20 years co-created by Bruce Timm, I feel like the distinction is important. That being said, maybe I'm just a nerd and none of this matters and this comment is pointless
I'm a big fan of both your Judas Contracts videos. I whole heartily agree with the first one but like the animated film version too. I do agree about your critique of the films Terra. At the end when Beast Boy tries to paint her in a sympathetic light it came out of nowhere and I couldn't see or get behind it for a second.
Honestly, if they made it longer and showed it was a Christian Fundamentalist town that she lived in, then the 'kill the witch' bit would make WAY more sense. You see entire book burnings of Harry Potter and smashing TVs if a kid is caught watching smurfs or anything non-Christian.
I think I'm in the minority here but I absolutely fucking hate the current movie universe. The stories they adapt are watered down and the characters get shifted around. I don't like that. I'd rather have them tell original stories. They add way too many stories together and it pisses me off. The adaptions from the previous DC Animated movies like Under The Red Hood, All Star Superman, Batman the Dark Knight Returns etc. were all very good. The adaptions of famous stories but retrofitting them to this universe ain't working. IMO the best DCnAU movie is Teen Titans vs Justice League (a story that was a light adaption and mostly original). The best DCnAU adaption is The Death of Superman & Reign of the Supermen. They were very close adaptions and there wasn't too much retrofitting. It worked. I'm just upset these films are so damn watered down.

I believe the beginning scene had just been there to show how good a leader Robin is, even though not necessarily. Probably just for fan service.
Normally I wouldn't mind that. If I didn't like fan service, I wouldn't be a Devil May Cry fan.
Yet Robin/Nightwing is shown to have excellent leadership skills through his actions throughout the film outside of the opening.
It's more so to show case the the similarities and diffrences between dick and kori compared to Garfield and terra.
I don't think I could analyze that film as well as H.Bomberguy did but I may take a crack at it!
Core Ideas plus you don’t want Allen Moore fans getting on your back!
Brother, I lost my shit when I bore witness to Batman getting it with Batgirl. I legit turned off the movie and tried to return it.
Yeah the only thing I liked about this movie was Nightwing and Starfires relationship
Same. It was the only thing that felt truly genuine.
Core Ideas genuine, what's genuine
Interesting. Imo that's my least favorite part (mostly because I'm a Dick×Babs person), but the strongest part IMO was the fight choreography. The fight scenes were brutal but well done.
I liked their relationship as well, but the multiple sex jokes were cringe imo
I agree
You see, my main problem with these animated movies is that they are too short for the stories they try to tackle with, don't get me wrong i like them a lot (specially Batman vs Robin and Justice League vs Teen Titans) but they would be way better with an extra 30 to 40 minutes to flesh-out more of the story and better set up relations between the characters.
At least this one didn't constantly focus on Damian.
I don't mind Damian all that much but I can see why he's insufferable to others.
This one is still better than the unrealistic comic book version.
i actually liked it a lot
That's great to hear! Just cause I wasn't a fan, doesn't mean one shouldn't like it.
coverandoacasa I liked it a lot to.
Same it’s my favorite film
It was good but i didn’t like how they did Terra’s character
Am i the only one who wanted a movie based on the orginal tt over this new team?
They had way better synergy and tbh the focus on damien was kinda annoying
Honestly, I would've loved that. Especially if they wanted to delve more into Starfire, who hasn't been given proper screen-time yet.
@Kiquan Ringo
Dick grayson robin, wally west kid flash and garth aqualad, followed by the quick addition of donna troy wonder girl. The robin kf al trio followed by a powerhouse is referenced in young justice as well
Wouldn't exactly say referenced edward.
The opening scene is pure fan service and I loved it!
I can definitely see why you enjoyed it!
and I understand the points you were making.
Core Ideas I think you can both be right- a fan service prologue with a slightly longer film that fleshed points out
totally agree. More length for these films would always be welcome.
You want to know the worst part they're adapting Batman hush to this universe and since there was a 5 year time skip how the hell are they going to introduce Jason Todd that's my question when there was no mention of him
Hmm, I didn't think of that...
Maybe they'll pull a Rebirth and say that Batman has been operating for 10 years instead?
I heard in the hush comic. It was Jason’s return. I haven’t seen the movie yet. (Released on DC’s stuff) but I haven’t heard if Jason is there though.
Ugh, don't remind me. That's going to be a hard pill to swallow especially since I'm a fan of the original story.
*Me and my dad watching Judas Contract for the first time*
Me: "I hope Deathstroke is in this! He's an amazing villain to watch!"
Deathstroke: *proceeds to makeout with teenage girl*
Me: :I
My dad: :I
It took me WAYY off guard, but it is comic accurate.
I love the DC animated films. They're a literal hit or miss series. For every Titans vs league you have a Judas contract.
It tries to say Damian Wayne and Dick Grayson together are barely a match for Deathstroke. Nonsense
Yeah, that never made sense to me either. I get that Deathstroke had been in the Lazarus Pit a few times but come on.
@Kiquan Ringo. It is compared to the movie!
R.I.P. raven screen time
One thing I remember from this movie that made no sense was when Deathstroke ended a fight and left after seemingly shooting Nightwing through the heart.
@@judeskater93 It wasn't
What I didn't like the Judas Contract film was one thing, Terra. I hated how they tried so hard to make her a blend of not only her psychopathic and irredeemable comic version, but also her tragic and caring TV series version. To me at least the effort just didn't pay off and I couldn't decide whether she was truly worthy of her redemption or not cause let's be honest. She only truly felt sorry after Deathstroke backstabbed her. If he hadn't she would have done jacksh*t to help the Titans.
Tune in at the end of the year when Core Ideas discusses how Young Justice did on their version of the "Judas Contract"
At this point, it looks like I have to haha.
Lizloveslight1111 why? It’s one of the best comic book animated series at this point. Only JLU and EMH Avengers surpass it on its own game.

Oh man, I didn't even notice that haha
I didn't connect with Terra's story at the end, but I did connect with Beast Boy losing someone he loved.
I was hoping you'd touch on the inconsistencies of Ravens power level and the need to clearly defining what state of her development she’s in.
Superman
Trigon > Raven > Superman > Darkseid > Tara in the comics, Raven warped Azarath into a cursed dimension after her birth immediately and the sky turned black by her demonic presence in the comics and destroyed her first planet as 10 years old and reached the heaven itself which is a superior feat to flash outrunning teleportation and darkseid reaching the source wall etc her soulself is a doorway to heaven and hell, Raven has consistently been above powerful hell lords like Belial, Etrigan and Neron etc who are stronger than Hela , Raven is also faster than Superman by the heaven feat ,she did what pre crisis Superman couldn't and she's immortal banned from the heaven and after life by the presence himself even hell didn't dare to claim her soul so she just kept wandering around and can re incarnate into different bodies basically a female Lobo and can pass immortality and death just like the main man and she has an absurd healing factor she could regenerate from a soul and Neron was terrified of her
I am talking about the base forms not cosmic armour Superman or true form Darkseid also Raven is actually a 3 dimensional being so it makes sense to be on this level of power.
@@eivor3975 idk, I feel like she can't constantly live up to the hype of being a fan favorite. They to give us some consistency...
I love how when it comes to other forms of media its deathstroke, but with the Teen Titans show hes always called Slade.
Great vid!
Wait so if beats boy was part of the og Titans, why is he still a kid instead of an adult like nightwing?
Huh... I didn't even think of that.
Core Ideas In the movie it's implied that Beast Boy left the Doom Patrol for the Titans very recently to the opening scene. And Beast Boy was around like very young when he joined whereas Robin would've been around like 18 or 19 in that scene
Micah huh, I thought the characters were around 15-18 around that time
Joshua ijaola so does that mean beast boy was around 22-24 years old during Judas contract??? If that’s the case.....blegh.
Supposedly his physical aging is slow
18:03 beast boy, what are you trying to grab?
I always hated that the Judas contract and I honestly had no idea why but now I do thanks
Do You Think A 3rd Movie Would Be Good Judging by Jericho still being alive and Donna Troy Joining???
I wasn't a fan of how Jericho was used in the plot but if they take their time and give them both room to grow, I think so!
The only things I liked about TTJC was the opening seen, Starfire and Nightwing relationship. Everything else was just irritating.
Wait, so the Hive got Slade's son killed, and he took up the contract in memory of him rather than claim vengeance against them? He's weird.
Boyan Penev yeah it’s just as confusing as the trigger happy hive lady.
Yeah but that was in the original comic storyline. So not this adaptation's fault.
Why Teen Titans: The Judas Contract is Disappointing
? it not it a epic movie it had a bit of flaws but it epic
As long as you enjoyed it, that's all that matters.
I'm looking forward to Fateful Five, myself. Especially since it looks like the Justice League/Justice League Unlimited.
Death and Rain are amazing
She went through a similar thing in the 2003 show where she went off the deep end because she had no one other than Slade left to turn to and he preyed upon her hurt feelings of not being accepted by Beast Boy to make her feel like the Titans deserved it for not helping her despite it being her mistakes that caused the whole thing.
im still wondering if raven was suspicious like her other counterparts
It's simple, stop cramming Damian down our throats.
Someone finally said it.Thank you
That would help
@@Hollowmaestro That’s what most people I’ve seen are saying. Not sure how you missed them.

I smell studio executives.
sounds like you just hate the kid lmao
4:33 with this money shot, I didn't even noticed the flaw in the movie... hmmm
Whoops!
Hopefully WB doesn t copyright claim the video, man.

I liked it. The only thing that I really hated was Tara trying to seduce slade.
That was something that shouldn't have been in there. Made no sense.

And they are all cancelled.
Lugbzurg
1:This cartoon isn't too far from a kids cartoon.
Thanks.
Well, Deathstroke does beat the shit out of Damian. So I think they understood people's opinion on him.
Thank you!
This is why I wish DC would stop adapting great storylines into animated movies cause all they do is fuck them up.
In my opinion the movie was amazing but the only thing I hated is brother blood
They need to just stop trying to adapt the judas contract story. It's literally on round 3 now, is there really nothing else one can tell at this point? It's about as ridicoulous as "oh batman begins made people aware" and making endless installments about Ras Al Ghul both animation and live-action.
1:39 whoa really? holy fucking shit YES. i've been hoping to see some new batman beyond content for years. finally. they should totally relaunch a batman beyond series. either remake the original but make it much better, or continue from where it left off, after terry accepts his life as batman.

Oh no, there's another problem with this, they forgot to draw Starfire's clothes on!!! What a glaring mistake, you think someone would have noticed along the way that she only has knickers on her bottom half while hanging out with a bunch of children, oopsie doopsies!!!
Carys Nevard yeah weird!
Tamaranians are usually skimpy on clothes
He sounds so mad in the most calm voice,he is the biggest
*"Im not mad...Just disapointed."*
Nice video, Titans 03 is legendary for me
Thank you! Glad you enjoy it.
I agree, the New 52 films just don't work and I'm really confused as to why they keep drawing from that style when the comics threw it out years ago
Barry G. How about death of Superman and Reign of Superman?
I mean, the TTG adaptation of Tara might be the most accurate but it doesn't mean it was better
Never said it was better; just that the creators understood what their show was about and fully committed to making her a villain.
That episode was hilarious. And I love how Raven keeps her in the trash hole.😂
@@CoreIdeas Still garbage though
@@charlottewalnut3118 When ever you don't see her on screen she is in the trash hole.
Waiting for the heroes video has turned into my favourite meme of 2019
I know, I'm so sorry.
9:11 I can’t believe the 2003 show completely took that out
I think they'll do this story line justice in Young Justice.
Let's hope so!
Noo... Why ? 😢I like how they kept Terra alive in Young justice
I watched this for the animation style. I found myself constantly getting up and walking away from the screen without realizing how bored I was.
As if the writers were telling us "we all know she is evil, so here, watch her sexting Deathstroke or what not"
Then in a VERY UNDERwhelming scene (not even just whelming) she flies a rock on top of BB, then Artemis tells her she´d always know because Batman is the guy from _Lie to Me_ now aparently, and she doesn´t kill him. Then she is suddenly good and redeemed. And that was it. Like what the fuck.
Again the twist with Geoforce was great but Terra´s character had no love put into her and the characterization they gave her is no more than that of a brick wall.
You can say that again pal. 15:10
Yep. That sums everything up. The movie was a disappointment because the producers decided there ideas were better than the original. Marv Wolfman.
Shout out to the Big O soundtrack near the end. Great video deconstructing this movie by the way, loved your previous one!
4:33 I can't believe he is robin the view
I think the disappointing part about this iteration is that a version that both combines the original and 2003 version of this character would work as a distinctive reminder that she is a mentally ill 15 year old. A malignant person, who at the end of the day is lost and confused. She hates and does not know why. Her sexual relationship with Slade also opens the door to a deeper interpretation of the character and the dynamic of that relationship. Tara can be a sympathetic character without being a good or reasonable person. It all depends on her framing on how they can develop these details and make a complex character.
I agree with ya, but I did enjoy this film.
And that's all that matters in the end! I can only give my opinion/perspective but your enjoyment is what ultimately matters.
@@CoreIdeas I will admit I have a soft spot for starfire. An tara
Lol lol
I can't fucking believe praising Teen Titans GO is no longer uncool. Nice.
I think it's because people finally calmed down and understand it's not hurting anyone.
How do you feel about terra in young justice?🤔
Even YJ redeemed Terra and turned her heroic brother into an influenced and manipulated antagonist.
he Judas Contract is my favorite film they made on that universe
Good video as always.
I try my best!
Don't think that way; it is an important distinction and one I should have made clear. It's valid criticism and I appreciate you pointing it out.
I hope WB uses this to make the next TT movie perfect and future DC animated movies
The worse thing about this was that little spoiled brat Damien Wayne
Anyone else notice how it said avengers age of ultron was released in 2013 lol
The only thing I liked about this movie was Raven and Starfire
Honestly, if they made it longer and showed it was a Christian Fundamentalist town that she lived in, then the 'kill the witch' bit would make WAY more sense. You see entire book burnings of Harry Potter and smashing TVs if a kid is caught watching smurfs or anything non-Christian.
You know you screwed up when teen titans go of all shows makes a better version of the judas contract then your feature length film.
Dude go suck a cactus nothing can be worse than that id rather Watch Little Clowns of Happytown atleast its funny bad.
