I was at the Ducati dealer. I haven’t rode a bike in over 10 years. I seen a 1098 and it was sold in the showroom. I said I must have it. I want it now and I want it today, but it looks of the bike I fell in love when on the Internet found a 1198 did not know shit about the bike, but it’s the same bike I made the purchase all I could tell you that it is Classy sexy sporty it’s like the ultimate pinup girl that you think you can never have, but it’s true to you without cheating. It’s like she tells you I’m here for you and you only and really means it Ducati is at its own level, I love it all the way
Nice review! Year and years old, yet relevant! To this day, a 1098 or 1198 remain my dream bike. No flies on the new Panigale V4S, etc...They're absolutely amazing. But there's something about this gen of Ducati superbikes that are just magical.

Cool review man! I've got to agree, I've fallen in love with Ducati as well. Had the 1199 in '14 and now the '15 R. I've got to say they have made the machine much more livable especially for a track ready bike. Also agree on the handling, it's like she is on rails.
Tank expansion is terrible, already replaced tank on my 2011 848 EVO. Only positive on that was that Ducati took care of it free of charge. Look closely at the steering damper, right side is almost digging into the side of the tank. Mine was rubbing against it. Hope the owner was able to change it, great bike. Great vid.
My favorite all around bike is the 04-08 r1...until I got a 1098. I was looking for another r1 and some guy selling a 1098 and put r1 as a keyword in his ad. I didn't buy his bike but I shopped around for a 1098/1198 and I absolutely love mine. Sure it can be finicky and needy but it always gives back. I'm riding mine into the fucking ground. I'm ducati from here on out.
My brother got a new 750 monster. Sounded like a XT250, never got a ride on the monster, but he'll never be on my 650 Bandit, not even a Bandit S, his loss. BRING BACK BANDITS. BANDITS ARE THE BEST. AND I AIN'T EVEN LYING.
+Drew H This does have around 10 lbs-ft more torque, but they both have peak torque at almost the same revs and are very similar in weight. The Suzuki might be geared lower.
Pedro Silva right, but it's a 2 cylinder so the torque should be more instant unless the gears are just THAT much longer than the gixxer 1k's gearing; which I doubt it is. Being 200ccs bigger and having half the cylinders, I'd expect that thing to be a torque monster.
The absolute, most uncomfortable bike I’ve ever owned. Once I bought the BMW S1000 and the HP4 models, I sold the Duc’s I had. But, the DUC’s were by far the sexiest and best sounding machines I’ve ever had.
I was really curious about the power. I know you made the ferrari anology. But compared to a typical japanese 4cylinder say a zx10r or cbr1000rr how did the power delivery feel? Like the powerband? Is it vibrate-y? Etc
There is power everywhere. Like. All over the place. And the way it pulls you back in the seat when you snap the throttle is unreal. Combine that with the nasty grunt of the exhaust and you have a monster

The 1098 is so much better than the RSV, it's not even a contest. It's also more recent and much more expensive so hard to see how anyone would be undecided between them.
Seems like a pretty strange comparison, in my country the Ducati would be 2-3 times the price of a 2001 Aprilia RSV Mille, a 07-08 RSV1000R or early RSV4 would be a better comparison. But yes, if you're comparing those two, the Ducati is a much better bike.
The only thing that I think is odd on a sport bike is that the front fork have such an lazy rake and that is it so long. imagine it having a bit sharper rake and shorter wheelbase. What a telepathic jetfighter it would be, unstable as hell and a wheelie machine but so easy to muscle down in the corners. But there are lots of better sportbikes handling wise out there, like all the Daytona 675, MV F3, Rsv4 and of course all the Panigales :D 1198 belongs to the old school superbikes with a seatposition where you are stretched over the tank compared to moderna bikes where you are more upright(closer to the handlebars/clippons). But Sure 1198 is a really nice bike.

If you look at cycle-ergo, this bike has some of the most aggressive ergonomics out there, the most aggressive out of any Ducati.
Killed my neck when I test rode one, and I love Ducati, owned 4 in the past. 04’ Blade and a Harley now.

you don't remark at how torquey it is like you did test riding the 05/06 GSXR1000...I'd imagine this is much torquier than a smaller, inline-4, no?

I had both. Duc has more torque down low on stock vs stock but a -1+2 on the k6 is equal strong. Though the k6 motor is a beast everywhere

+Z33NY It's instant torque and you shift earlier than you would on a 4 cylinder because you get max torque around the mid rpm range.
