I love my Nikon L35AF. Your video makes me want to pull it out and shoot a roll of film. Fortunately, I'm not having any problems with the ON/OFF switch or the battery door but will keep that in mind as I carry it around.
Definitely worth carrying around. The lens on that is golden. People will also pay a pretty penny for it if you’re interested in selling.
Regarding the on/off button, mine is really solid and I never switch it to off unless maybe when replacing film. The battery doesn't drain with it being on. The only negative is that you can accidently ready the flash which would then drain the battery but you save the switch from getting worn out.
Also read that the self timer switch breaks down as well which could be good to know.
Thanks for the vid.
The pentax pc35afm has a distance focus indicator in the viewfinder also.
The best street photographers don’t ask for permission. There are exceptions. Usually when morality kicks in. Don’t be shy. Do it!!
My version goes to 1000 iso .. the battery door issue is a pain but duck tape saves the day .. my off/on switch is very tight so a different problem to yours .. such a sharp lens, enjoyed the video
Thanks! Appreciate it
I've got, it was of my grandparents, one that goes up to 1000 too, and the switch feels very solid, it wasn't used much but I wonder if it's something they perfected from the first to the secondo version. Battery door looks flimsy but it still does it job
I own 4 L35AFs, an L3AF2 in varous conditions and it is an amazing camera. I come from digital photography and the first thing that impressed me (and made me get several of them) was the insane picture quality. I scan my negatives with a 62MP digital camera with a kelvin controlled LED light source and my god, the contrast, colors and sharpness the L35AF produces is out of this world. I compared it to Yashica T3s, mju ii's and even a canon A352 - the nikon is just maginudes more punchy. The Yashicas are the only cameras that come close.
However, the nikons are more bulky, flimsy and the battery compartment suck really bad compared to any of the alternatives. You covered this topic pretty well. I had an LF35A2 break on me and had to send it to a repair shop - who replied that the thing that broke seemed to be a really common flaw with that camera.
TLDR : The Nikon L35AF produces insane images that even hold up today - if you can look past its bulkiness and unnecessairy bad build quality/design in some parts.
Thanks for taking the time to write this out. I love the L35AF. I did a comparison video with the Yashica T4 and I actually prefer the Nikon.
@@filmstockreel Yeah, I love the Nikon too. I compared it to a Yashica T3 because the T3 has a F2.8 lens just like the Nikon. The Yashica T4 has a F3.5 lens. Especially with the lens wide open, both the L35AF and the T3 produced incredible images - but the Nikon always had more punch and depth. Plus the T3 is incredibly noisy :D
Edit: Just watched the comparison video. Very in depth and I agree, the Nikon is much better. Great work.
Good job on the video. Get comfortable with the camera or you may kick yourself if you sell it. I have a One Touch/L35AF2 that I really like but don't shoot much because it is in almost perfect condition and it's the only one I have. I have a One Touch 200 that is not as cool looking, can be had for less than $50 but also takes great shots. Both automatically set the ISO however. Canon AF35 ML has an f1.9 40mm lens, you can set the ISO and can be readily had but are necessary to pay attention to the focus. When film cameras were being dumped some years ago I picked up 5 of them. Since I have more of them, I shoot them more often.
Hi Ebi. Great video as always! I got that exact camera about a week ago! 😂 I have not developed the roll of Kodak gold, yet. But I am excited because your pictures looked super sharp. I don´t have any issues with my on/off button. Its "clicks" in place on mine. The battery cover is horrible though. I fully agree with you there!
The on and off switch might just mine then which is kinda sad but I might have a fix for it soon! Let me know if you have any long term fixes for the battery door.
I have the L35AF2 which doesn’t have the on/off switch on the top. I also cannot select my ISO, it is 100% based on the DX code of the film I load.
As far as backs of people, I think you can get an emotion from it, too. I have a number of photos that are the backs of people and they are no less street than a shot of a person’s face. Remember that art is subjective. You need to find your style that you are comfortable with and go for it.
Thanks for the words. I appreciate it. I guess i'm just thinking out loud for this maybe when i try shooting peoples faces i will realize this style is better for me for now its still a lot of experimenting to be done.
Nice video. Dope camera, but this film is really so-so.
Did you sell it tho?
Yes I did end up selling it.
