    A lot of Canon and Minolta auto exposure cameras from the 1970s used the practice of mounting the meter sensor inside the lens mount so that it would read through filters, as here. For B&W, filters do not track too well with exposure determined by through-filter metering. True accuracy would require adjusting the ISO per the assigned filter factor, but through the filter is a practical approximation. As for the lens, test's published when it was introduced to the market suggest that it just the 35mm 2.8 made for the Nikon F SLR, remounted into plastic. Nikon used this lens a lot in higher quality cameras, probably the same lens as the 35Ti less the later coating improvements.

    By far my favorite point & shoot camera. Love the Sonnar design lens! As for street photography, you can actually use it. Press the shutter button, hold it and release it after you‘ve left the scene. Only now it makes its loud noises :)

    Placing the meter window inside the filter ring was pretty common among cameras of that era. The Olympus Trip 35 did it with a selenium meter.

    You are so right this is a beautiful camera. I have had a few die in me though but hey then you get to se the inside of it. Just be aware if you have charged the flash - it does give you a good shock! Saw it compared to the TI35 - its more plasticy and it makes noise - but it REALLY good!

    Another camera having a similar light meter right under the lens is the Agfa Optima Sensor from the 1970s. But this camera doesn’t have AF. It has zone focus instead. And the film is manually advanced, what makes it very quiet. And due to its size it‘s very stealthy. It‘s a simple camera, but small and reliable. Perfect for streetphotography.

    I had one of these years ago and it got stolen along with the rest of my gear. I actually got my gear back from the pawn shop where it ended up, but this camera wasn't in the mix. I assume the pawn dude didn't want it and the person that stole it ditched it somewhere. I've considered replacing it a few times, but prices on them are wild.

    Just came across this video and you mentioned in the text at the beginning of the video that one of the filters you used was a 46mm Tiffen 85b filter. I was looking into getting one for this camera as I use Kodak Vision 3 500T quite a lot and like the option of warming it up with a filter when I want to. However I can't find that filter in 46mm anywhere, not even on Tiffen's own website. Did you purchase a Tiffen filter in 46mm or did you use a step up ring to attach the filter to the camera?

    • @RobbieMaynardCreates
      @RobbieMaynardCreates  2 місяці тому

      I found it on BH a while back. I actually had a whole video made about 85b filters but it was lackluster so I just deleted the file. 46mm is a pretty small filter which is why I assume they are not readily available. Scanning on 35mm sort of eliminates the effect of the filter in Silverfast but its much more effective with tungsten balanced film even with the auto-correction in post.

    Great video and I am glad it wasn't a human body wrapped up in that tarp. I think I would have taken off running, especially knowing there was a lone tent nearby. Anyway, your original video on the L35AF is one reason why I purchased one. I have enjoyed using it and felt fortunate to have been able to find a 1000 ASA version in pristine condition. Despite paying a but more than you did (I desperately wanted the one I found), it being loud and a bit of a brick, it takes fantastic photos and is great to take on hikes when I don't want to carry one of my other cameras.
