People praising the HD2 music don't realize that this was even better... because most of them never played this. The HD2 mission starting music is good (when they launch the pods), but this was wayyyy better extraction music

The new theme has grown on me. It's an epic, cinematic romp. But you're totally right. The unabashed bravado and heroism of this original theme makes me wanna go for another dive in the name of DEMOCRACY and SUPER-EARTH.
As a helldivers 1 veteran, we musn't forget the great soldiers we lost! We must represent the brand well, to honor the great soldiers that won the first galatic war!
It kinda did, the second half of the Helldivers 2 theme uses parts of this one, unfortunately, you can only really hear that if you spend 2 minutes on the loading screen
This game makes the call to arms more believable than the sequel. Feels like you're actually defending someone - or a number of someones back home that you don't want to lose, or suffer the fate of the colonists that were already lost earlier in the war - or the fate of your fallen comrades.
When the main menu would open up with Cruisers coming out of hyper space, the main theme immediately starting.. God I love this old game. I really really REALLY hope that when I finally open the second game in 2 days they keep this iconic main theme. I hope when I finally open that game I'm once again greeted to ships leaving hyper space and this fantastic track just blasting.
Best sci-fi shooter ever, Just bought the game for myself, used to play it with the boys every Saturday night in my friends basement; while we were playing we would make ourselves nice cups of liber-tea (I’m not joking it was literally a tradition to drink some form of soda or tea while playing, stemmed from that exact voice line)

This is still the anthem of the helldivers even in the 2nd game. I forget which broadcast it was but one of the commercials that plays while you're on your ship was playing this melody in the background and I immediately noticed it.
A really awesome mix of sci-fi space music and traditional earth orchestral beats portraying humanity’s goal of progressing to the space age just to show aliens what colonisation is all about.
Then good news for ya, they are making Helldivers 2 and its suppossed to come this year, it will a 4 man multiplayer or coop in a TPS setup, so no longer tripy birds eye view
It's crazy how we went from 2d to a 3d game that looks like it was made in UE5 but with way better performance. And best of all the spirit of the orginal is still here!
Really hope this song makes a comeback at a dramatic point in the story. Imagine a 16 player “hold the line” style event on Super Earth, and for the last two minutes of the mission this song kicks in. I’d get goosebumps.
Add the sounds of the last 30 seconds before the dropship arrives in the background for immersion IE turrets shooting, grenades popping, and the narrator counting down in your ear as you desperately fight off swarms of bugs for super earth
This theme is way better than the second one's, especially when you're fighting to the last breath waiting for the shuttle to do a heroic exit just as the nuke lands.

I am sure the first game was also a good game. But to be perfectly honest, comparing the main theme between game 1 and game 2, I honestly think second game's main theme orchestra score blew this one out of the water. Nothing shameful about it; really, a sequel is supposed to continuously improve especially in the music area.
Agreed, the new theme leans far too much into the Starship Troopers inspiration that the theme (while fitting well with the drop pod sequence) and especially the mission BGM sounds generic "epic movie" and forgettable. This theme however fit both as the main theme and was great as the extraction theme, inspiring the team to fight to the last as the seconds counted down. I love blasting the original music over gameplay of 2, especially after alerts.

Its such a shame this theme didn't make a comeback. It absolutely nails the perfect vibe for a Starship Troopers style setting.

It actually is (kind of) in the game, it's the main theme of the Stratagem Hero arcade game in spawn, although it is an 8-bit version of it.

Helldivers 2 theme is the Helldivers 1 theme. Its a different tempo and a few alternate notes, but the overall arrangement is the same.
