- Walking just one more minute a day can have a positive impact on your mental health. Simply moving around the house can help fight loneliness and depression, according to the new book, “The Joy of Movement: How Exercise Helps Us Find Happiness, Hope, Connection, and Courage.” The book's author, psychologist Kelly McGonigal, joins “CBS This Morning” with tips about how to add more movement to your life.

Been lonely and depressed for 20 years, exercise can only do so much.
Get professional help.
Unfortunately you're right
You aren't working out hard enough. Get better.
Diet causes depression. Go plant exclusive. I did and my depression went in 4 days (it takes 4 days for food to leave our system). Any processed foods decrease your happy chemicals
Exercise is one tool to get better. Find other tools and use all of them.
Humans are born to move, be active and enjoy life. Especially today, and even more after Covid, a lot of us would find ourselves sitting in front of our desks and laptops for terribly long periods of time, and so now it has never ever been more important to move our bodies to stay healthy, live life and, of course, experience the joy that moving our bodies give to us
What a person eats also greatly contributes to mental health. I had battled for most of my life with BPD, severe depression and anxiety. Once I started putting more fresh foods in my body and less eating out. Switched from coffee to green tea I began to feel so much better. The full 180 happened when I discovered and started doing qigong. Once I combined movement I enjoyed and my diet I am a whole new person.
always good to hear the positive benefits of exercise.
Im not social. I have a lot of difficulties understanding people. I live in a world that is perpetually foreign to me. All the little things people do dont make sense to me and I dont know what to do l
Continuous Exercise , cycling 30min , body movement , walking an hour , swimming anything you like make you feel tired the day. Do this continuosly you will see the good positive change mood , mind , behaviour..
Exercise helps to "numb" the way you think about people. I hate people but exercise stops me thinking about others. I just think of myself and feel happier
Nowadays people call loneliness and their incapability to improve their life (aka laziness) - depression.
A person with actual depression has no motivation to do anything and can’t enjoy anything. If you joke about it - you DONT HAVE DEPRESSION.
Very very good point- thank you for making it. Many more people need to hear that information. Most people today have ‘depression’ because our society is building a society filled with increased laziness and inability to help build better lives. If your feeling down, you have to take life and get busy making it better, not hide behind the banner of depression, which becomes very self limiting. People’s self defined language matters. Thank you for reminding me of that.
There are levels to depression. Certainly deep depression can totally incapacitate someone. But there is moderate and mild to where people function but not optimally.
The target audience is; people who don't get out of bed.
BS. I’ve been fighting depression for some time. I exercise almost every day including long walks and weights. Still nothing
Have you considered Burger Kings 2 for $10.00? Knocks my depression out of the ballpark. Secondly pornhub.
- Try it bruh.
try keeping a diary
. read lots .. listen to podcasts .. listen to music ... keep walking lots and swim daily xx depression will come and go ...it does with me too xx
Try yoga...or zumba...that the only thing take kept me going
Try PT job even 10 hours week if you can?
try group fitness - the social aspect helps you feel connection and push your body harder. long walks depress me because there's so much time to have negative thoughts and i don't get endorphins. but hard group fitness classes give me such a high.
Depression and loneliness can be fatal, i feel it a lot and feel so much for anyone going through it 💔
Exercise does help! But it helps in conjunction with my anti anxiety meds. Before my meds, exercise’s good effects were very temporary.
That's cos of the processed foods you eat. They all lower happy chemicals
i would walk to work, to class, to stores. i have seen others walking. me and those people would still be depressed. i am in a deep depression for being told that i will no longer have a roof to be under. being active wont work on depression.
Then fix it.
I wish that CBS would do a series about mental illness and treatment instead of "mental health" for normal people and wellness. Lots of people are dying because they are unaware that evidence-based treatments exist that can help them.
Stay kind, it'll get better for everyone ❤️😊🤞
I need to exercise 24/7 in order to beat my depression and that's impossible unfortunately, my back is already messed up
She is a rockstar.
this study will be one of the countermeasure to the new generation, with increasing mental health issues.

I walk for over an hour every weekday. Nothing.
Do they get that it's different for every person. Some don't have the energy to move, some just need another solution.I haven't found mine yet.
Of course it’s a book and marketing segment. Thought they were just giving New Years advice.
